An enchanting and magical place, where incredibly silence reigns (or maybe it will be because I visited it in January?). The lions, silent and solemn, make travel with the imagination, imagining stories about them and this special place. One of the lions also appears in "Fable of Venice", a beautiful story by Hugo Pratt: Corto Maltese meets one of these feline caretakers and it's always nice to come back to see a place where your favorite comic book is set! Who knows how special it is to live there: I thought about it during the last visit, when - while I was drawing the lion I spoke about - the light was lit from a window that overlooks the Arsenale ...

I highly recommend to look here, it's wonderful, quiet from locals and tourists. I was most interested in the gate where the Greek gods and goddesses are depicted in a sculptural group of stone. Further to the right and left are statues of lions, one standing and one lying. The lions are huge and stand on a marble slab.
But I was most interested in the tree. Respectively not a tree but animals living on it. They are not visible at all but they make a sound a kilometer away. It gives you a headache and you want to leave quickly. Furthermore, there is only a shadow in one place, and in that heat, the shadow suits you.
It's a little further from the local port, but perfect for that.

Thumbs up

It is a beautiful area like every corner of Venice, it is much less crowded and the grace is to get into the small streets of the Castello district or walk along the promenade towards the Santa Elena neighborhood at the eastern end of the island.

The Arsenale is a district that is also the starting point of the Regata Strorica, procession of boats, crews on the lagoon, a competition "voga alla veneta" unique in the world on the Great Canale.
Thus, every first Sunday of September takes place the Historic Regatta of Venice, annual meeting, very important for the Venetians.
For tourists it is not to be missed. That's wonderful. First of all because Venice is a unique city, with very particular colors. Then because in this fascinating scenery appear the famous people of the past.

At the end of August, beginning of September, the period is doubly interesting, since the Lido also hosts the Film Mostra, which is included in the Venice Biennale. What happiness!

A historic and defensive site where ships and weapons were once built. An immense building site in which in Venice boats were made in a typically industrial manner using mastery and laborers in the same way as modern industry and also using ready-made ready-made pieces. The site was built in the twelfth century and has survived until today. Today most of it is owned by the Municipality of Venice and partly by the Italian Navy. Some spaces are allowed in use at the Venice Biennale.
What a show.

Beautiful corner of Venice, military domain near the museum of navigation. Unfortunately the adjacent room is not up to the place where it is located due to questionable management decisions and unprofessional staff.

Unique of its kind, located on 5 floors worth a visit to learn in a different and compelling way the naval progression of the Serenissima, but also national and international. Inquire from the site about schedules and reductions, extremely available staff.

Great part of Venice - not many tourists. Perfect place to explore and get lost in the little laneways - using the walls of Arsenale as a 'handrail'... Also a great walk from Arsenale - using the backroads - to Via Garibaldi, walking past bienalle exhibits. If you are lucky - the communist bar with all its paraphernalia will be open. Be sure to check out the turtle pond in the gardens of Via Garibaldi
