Came here around 10am Sunday and waited about 15 min in line.
Ordered the pain au chocolat, morning bun, and bread pudding. Bread pudding was pretty good, although it was a bit more eggy than I anticipated, and I think berries would have been better than apple.
I had the morning bun the next evening after toasting it up again, but it wasn't nearly as good as it would have been fresh.

Delicious (and huge) pain au jambon & great almond milk latte (Counter Culture coffee), and my husband had the extremely tasty morning bun & a pour over. The line wasn't awful at all (it was a Wednesday morning around 9.30 & we had our food & coffee in about 10 minutes)- I'd highly recommend this place & will definitely be returning!!
Tartine is my own little bit of Paris in San Francisco.
The banana cream pie ($6.50) was perfectly made. The whipped cream was wispy, cloudlike, and delicate. The pie contained actual fresh slices of bananas. The shell was crispy and tantalizing. As a whole, the dessert was only slightly sweet. A much welcomed surprise for a society that oversugars everything - including life.
Lemon meringue cake, almond rocher, banana cream pie, best eclair ever, excellent cappuccino... what else u might want on a beautiful Saturday afternoon? Perhaps, shorter line to get all those heavenly tasting goodies? oh well, weekend More
The wait was way too long! The cashier was like that sloth in Zootopia. For what you are just getting, Tartine is just not worth it! Would give it an even worse rating if u could!
Too claustrophobic in here for me - and too much attitude from the clientele and some of the staff. You can barely walk in here for crowding - it's a fire hazard. However the counter guy, John, was great.
Beautiful cakes. Nice wood fire oven done croissants, etc...but they're the kind that shatter crumbs all over. The custard for the quiche was a nice texture but flavour was only ok.
I will give it another try, but it won't be the first bakery on my list next time in town.
Oh Tartine. I love you, but hate parking near you. My love for you runs so deep that I am willing to endure the torture of trying to park near by. Your banana cream pie changed my life.
Great food but possibly the most inefficient ordering system possible. Waited 15 minutes to order one item and was served by three separate people. If they could innovate here in would go all the time!!
I'm a strong believer in the old saying, "you eat with your eyes." I think whoever came up with that phrase had Tartine in mind. I honestly don't know if I've ever seen such beautiful pastries. Specifically, the CROISSANTS! I'm not at all a fan of croissants (I know, I know...), but the Tartine ones are almost too pretty to eat. That goes for their sweets as well! I had the lemon cream tart (about $8); it's the perfect pastry that you can share or just devour on your own. I also tried their savory scone, which came with homemade preserves. GET THE PRESERVES.
You really can't go wrong with any of the items here. Pro-tip: Go on a weekday late morning; there's practically no line!
Asked for a full banana cream tart cake and they messed up my order giving me a mini tart. Asked for a quiche and they forgot it. Asked for 2 turkey croques and they gave me ham. Who ever is the man working the front of the store today at noon listened to absolutely nothing. He rushed us and it messed everything up. Never buying a full size cake from Tartine ever again. Smh
There is always a line but when there isn't it is like winning a lottery ticket. Amazing croissants and morning buns! Love their tarts. Can't go wrong with anything in the case.
Stick to the tarts and rolls. I thought the bakery was nice, but I could have done without the line. What they do, they do well;however, there isn't a huge selection.
Don't give up on no parking, waiting in line behind 20 or 30 people. The food and service will be forgotten a you eat their outstanding food and pastries.
I was fortunate enough to be introduced to this gem back in 2015 while on a hike with some local friends. I am fortunate enough to get to travel around the US quite a bit. I can tell you that this is the best bakery I've ever been to. Period.
The gruyere is my personal favorite. It is savory delight.
That devils food cake was just delicious. Super chocolatey, not too sweet, ridiculously moist and that ganache... geez. So good. Go and get their cakes. But the bag of 12dollar cookies? A little ridiculous...
There are no words. The Croque Monsieur must be eaten. Both the turkey and fromage Blanc are coated in Bechamel and covered with melted cheese. The ham and leek quiche was both creamy and airy, the crust flaky, the whole thing lasted maybe 30 seconds. The chocolate eclair was filled to the brim with cream, I will say don't expect a true Parisian egg cream but still fabulous. The croissants and Pain Chocolate were equally amazing. Every single thing here is worth the 30 minute line out the door. Stand in it. Trust me.
Sandwiches are really nice, the blue cheese and walnut bread grilled sandwich was possibly the nicest thing I have ever put in my mouth. The almond and perconio sandwhich was a bit heavy on the almonds. The sandwiches are massive, enough for two people, which is good considering they cost more than 10$. Also, you get infinite refills on the house coffee.
I was there only to try the famous pastries and chose the lemon cream tart, which was very good but nothing out of this world, pricey though ($9 for a mini tart)
Delicious pastry, but after having it, I wonder whether it's worth the wait. When I got there at 9am, I waited thirty five minutes to get pastries to go. I had the chocolate croissant (pan au chocolat), a bread pudding, and a morning bun. The croissant was surprisingly ordinary based on what I was told about how good it was. The morning bun and bread pudding were good. There were other things I wanted to try but it's telling I think that although I went back, I decided against waiting again and left without getting anything. Something cool was being able to see them prepare things in the back; kids might find that especially interesting.
Delicious pastries and toasted sandwiches. I had the tres leches cake and I think it is a must. The portions are big so bring a good appetite or ask for a takeaway box. Fresh fruit juices are also available and perfect to round up your meal.
From violent dough (For long hours in the mornings and weekends), which serves excellent croissants (including those with bacon and cheese stuffing that can be a whole day meal, seriously), terrific tarts, and other sweet treats. I do not recommend it because it is ragged and tasteless in my eyes (it does not have enough crispy areas and it is a little bland), and I find myself returning to the lemon Tart, which is served with an ornamental mountain of soft whipped cream. In a bowl of cornflakes, and it is also very tasty, and is recommended for a rainy day (a common sight in the city). Pastry $ 13 just to satisfy you toast spent an entire day.
Not positively impressed. The cappuccinos were weak. The poppy seed cake over sweet. The sandwiches way too greasy. We won't be eating here again. Oh, and the music much too loud.
Four of us took advantage of the family style tasty offerings of ceviche, salads, octopus, beef tartare, 1/2 baked chicken, chicory and cilantro and crispy breads. The service was excellent and so were the cocktails. I had the Barberra/Bonarda blend (new to me) that was such a hit that we consumed 3 glasses, splurging at $18 per glass. We left no room for dessert, though.
This place i have been going to for so long and after all that time the place never failed at making pastries. This place i would highly suggest going to.
Best in class for what it is, but not really my thing.
My first experience with Tartine was when a friend brought a country loaf to a dinner party. It was definitely the culinary highlight of the evening.
The second time was in the bakery itself. I waited in line for ~10 minutes and got a double pain au chocolate. My friend ordered a morning bun. Both were amazing, especially the soft interiors.
But I don't like waiting in line or eating indulgent carbs so I probably won't be back too soon.
The banana cream pie is to die for. The pastry is flaky and nice. The cream wasn't too sweet and the banana, chocolate and caramel balance the tart very nicely. Delicious. Can't wait to try out their other pastries.
Great coffee and pastries. We returned at 4pm and got on the list for their Country Bread loaf and took it back to our Airbnb for a toasted sourdough and marmalade treat!
Food: - chocolate croissant - deliciously buttery and super flaky croissant. The chocolate is a nice dark chocolate and just the right amount. The best I've tasted so far
- fruit tart - basically a very nice crumb cake with some blueberry preserves on top. Pretty good - frangipane tart - a nice thick flaky pastry with blueberry, almonds, and powdered sugar - it was pretty good too
Savory sandwiches - Spicy turkey - medium sliced turkey, slightly spicy and the right amount of provolone cheese, and nice broccoli rabe pesto which wasn't too strong. This was on olive oil coated slices of baguette and press toasted. Very delicious and rich. There was also a slightly spicy picked carrot on the side.
Tea cakes: - Lemon poppy - on the sweeter side, and very moist with a sugar glaze on outside - Zucchini walnut - with some large pieces of orange peel (didn't it was needed, but it added some extra pockets of random sweetness and moisture), it was tasty but a little drier. - Double chocolate Ordered 5pm on a weekday and had it for breakfast the next couples mornings and it was still good.
Ambiance: - a 15-20 minute wait on a Sunday at noon; if you get there before noon, it's probably more like 10 min - 5pm on a weekday no wait, but no pan au chocolat either; there were plenty of regular croissants though
Service - friendly and speedy - you order baked goods first and get it immediately - sandwiches are ordered next at the cashier and they bring it to your table
OMG - So good even my French friend gave it a two thumbs up!
Went here for brunch on a Saturday afternoon, and the line was surprisingly not that long. Took about 10 minutes to get to the front of the line. 10 minutes isn't even enough to decide what to order since they are so many choices! I opted for a plain croissant and a seasonal fresh fruit tart.
Croissant Perfectly flaky and buttery. Probably the best croissant I've ever had! No additional toppings/sauces needed as it is perfect the way it is.
Raspberry Fruit Tart Fresh raspberries, light custard, and delicious crust! What more can you ask for? It is pretty expensive for a small tart... around $6? But it will fill you up for the most part if you get another pastry with it. You won't fill that gross after either since it's pretty light for the most part.
Beautiful selection and everything we ve had has been delicious. Their laminated pastry is amazing and the morning bun is a must-try. The indoor space is small and not stroller-friendly so plan accordingly!
A couple of my friends and I visited just barely before closing - there was no line! - and ordered eclairs. They were to DIE for! Mmm... The waitstaff were very nice and let us sit inside while we ate our eclairs for a few minutes even though they were closed and cleaning up.
