Food is absolutely delicious with a comforting atm...
Food is absolutely delicious with a comforting atmosphere. Desserts are amazing. Don't recommend the fishermans stew. Line is awful though.

The pastries are absolutely amazing and worth the crazy lines.
Best banana pies ever! Try the coconut pie if you are coconut fans, it s just coconutsssss
Brownie fans must get the brownie there too!!
Croissants were super fluffy and buttery. Savory scones were good
All their baked goods and pastries are really tasty, and the massive lines give you more than enough time to decide on what you want. But really, after it's all said and done, the prices can be a bit crazy across the board and honestly certain items just don't merit them. But their croissants and scones are delicious still, and it's nice to stop in when you're in the city just for a small baked snack. As for breakfast or lunch, maybe look elsewhere?
Got the morning bun and croissant and wasn t too impressed by the croissant. It was pretty large though! Maybe I need to come again when it s freshly made. The morning bun was pretty tasty but very sugary. Not sure if this place is worth the really long lines. I like the croissants from Ariscault and Les Gourmands better.
I must go to Tartine whenever I'm in SF. The food is incredible. My advice is to get one of everything that you want to try, it won't be cheap but it is totally worth it. Definitely a San Francisco staple.
I got a Country loaf fresh out of the oven at 3:30 along with a coconut and banana cream tart. Everything is great and dont worry the line moves fast. The employees are always super helpful.
Our Airbnb host told us that people have stayed with them just to he in close proximity to this place, so naturally we had to go. Woah. I mean... just... woah. The chocolate croissant was... woah. Go!
Yes, it really is that good. It's the "all that and a bag of chips" that everyone makes it out to be. Sorry to raise everyone's expectations even further, Tartine, but really, you make me sing your praises. They are known and loved for their bread, which delights, but I've been reducing my gluten consumption lately. If you like chocolate, try their chocolate pudding and prepare to orgasm silently to yourself.
This place definitely lives up to the hype. I would definitely recommend going on a weekday and avoiding the 1 hour line on Saturday and Sundays.
Expensive, long lines, but try to refuse a morning bun or hunk of fresh country loaf. I dare you.
Some of the best pastries and cakes in San Francisco and world renowned bread.
This establishment is what the mission will always be! Authentic. Before school I would get my breakfast here. I hope they never leave. Continue to make delicious food..happy holidays.
Good, but not worth a one-hour waiting line mid afternoon.
The pastries are amazing but the environment could be better. Location is good, next to fun stores like Paxton gate. There is a long line most of the time. Very popular with the tourists.
Great pastries, long queues but worth it! Morning bun and almond croissant especially good
THEY. HAVE. THE. BEST. MORNING. BUNS. AND. CROISSANTS. EVER.
Best croissant I ever had, if you don't mind the long line.
Amazing pastries, recommend getting there early..they fill up quick!
Yes, very nice bread pudding. Now about that line, if you are coming back from Dolores Park in the late afternoon, the line may have evaporated and a table may have come available. Not worth braving a long line to get into this hipster haven, unless you find true love in the Tartine queue.
Rare treat because it's very expensive and waiting in line is a pain.
Yummmy!! Veg (mushroom) croque and the coconut cream tart is a must.
Great eclair, coffee, bread of course, loved the huckleberry tart! So excited for the canvas tote, definitely wish we could frequent more often!
Went to this bakery on a recommendation by a local. Absolutely amazing chocolate croissant! I also got the corn and squash quiche that was fantastic as well. Line was long but moved quickly. The staff was very friendly as well. Highly recommend.
Normally there is a long wait and getting a seat it's tough but the good is excellent
It's the bread!!! I have never tasted anything so delicious. But don't tell anybody: as is, they sell out way before closing time and I'm addicted to it now.
It smells like butter even when they are not baking. The line is worth the wait every time.
How good is this place?
We traveled 1000 miles to get to San Francisco and this is the first place we stopped. The people at the next table were from Peru and it was their first stop.
Delicious pastries and buns, can see what all the hype is about. Well worth a visit!
If you haven't been to Tartine, go ahead and punch yourself in the face now. It's amazing and I love their story, books and it's pretty much the best location in SF. Enjoy!
Lines are often long, on weekends - forget about it. Often doesn't feel like a bakery at all. Then I buy fresh warm sesame bread and all is forgiven.
I don't eat bread, but I'll eat the sourdough at Tartine. Because it's the best in the world. It shocks me how much better it is than every other bread.
And I don't eat sugar, but I'll eat Tartine's chocolate cake. The first time I had it, mid 2016, I pronounced I was done with cake for the year. How could anything follow that up and not be utterly eclipsed in flavor and texture by Tartine's creation? And how could a repeat performance be as memorable as the first? If you haven't had it, defer the tempting siren song of the lighter pastries for another time, look down at the innocent but deadly chocolate cake and live your life with no regrets.
Had cafe late, chocolate croissant, coconut cream tart and passion fruit bavarian cake. All 4 items costed $26.98. Was recommend this place from a friend. Possibly its good for brunch food? There is definitely a huge line to buy. I'm just not a fan of long lines, 20 minutes wait for overpriced items.
Every time we come here the food seems to get better... unbelievable!
Oh Tartine, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul.
No seriously. As much as it is hipster-hyped, beneath it all, Tartine is the pastry and baked good cotillion. Yes, only the most elite, gorgeous, rich and tasty morsels are presented here. I've tried tarts, bread, croissants (filled and unfilled), open-faced sandwiches, buns, even the bread pudding. Not a single complaint. About the food, anyway. The lines are a different story. Don't come hungry - you'll wait about half an hour before you even get a taste.
In my opinion, the place does not live up to its hype. I came on a Sunday afternoon and wait was about 20-30 minutes. The environment inside is pretty hectic. Tons of people in line, running around, and it was difficult to get a table for 4. Not a very relaxing environment.
I got to try the lemon tart, chocolate cake, some mango mousse, and a little bit of the cappuccino. None of these desserts were particularly spectacular.
I came again another time and got the almond croissant which was really good, perfect texture and flavor. 4 stars (not 5 because it is quite expensive).
They have a big variety so maybe I didn't try the right pastries. I recommend grabbing the pastry to go and eating it at the park, probably makes for a better experience than staying at the bakery.
You quickly understand why this place is a local institution. Pastries are delicious, cakes are beautiful, bread is crusty and fluffy. Lemon tart is creamy and melts in your mouth. Croissants and chocolate croissants are these big but delicate balls of... happiness. Perfect shape, texture, and taste - a real treat.
Very long lines. Not sure if it's worth the time spent in line. Service is friendly but slow.
Stood in a 20-25 minute queue to be told by the staff that maybe 30% of the menu is currently available. None of their sandwiches on the menu were available, just the desserts that were on display.
Good selection and delicious food. Not very expensive either.
Not hard to see why they're so popular. We tried a range of savoury and sweets and really loved the balance and skill of everything we tried. The croc-monsieur was a favourite for me, but equally the pastries were impressive as well. The queues move pretty quickly and I'm glad I got a chance to share a few treats here.
Restarted POS for twenty minutes while the line grew, walked out without pastry :(
I would definitely recommend to pick up some pastries/cakes at Tartine (which are delicious) and enjoy them in Dolores Park on a sunny day! That's a nice combo to do as they are only a few minutes walk from each other
Another "must do" for every visit to SF. This time I had the pain au jambon with smoked ham & gruyere...delicious! On prior visits I've had the morning bun, bread pudding, quiche, croque monsieur...all amazing! I don't think you can go wrong with anything you choose.
Banana cream tart.
This is truth.
But now that we have come to our country, I feel a little lost.
Anyway delicious!
Fortunately no line in Wednesday morning around 9. Picked up some croissants, pain au chocolat, and tarts to try. Everything was average or below average. Dough was a bit too salty and tasted like it was overbaked. Chocolate in pain au chocolat was too sweet and sour, not matched to the dough. Tarts lack harmony of flavor and were not sophisticated. Not impressed at all. Will not be coming back even there's no line.
If you wait a little longer, it will shorten quickly.
Personally, the hazelnut tart is the most delicious.
Too many people
You can not eat inside.
Delicious
Delicious pastries and bread, very good coffee and tea, very good service, and a lovely location, but avoid weekend and tourist crowds.
This place is a must visit for me in SF. I still dream of the turkey, broccoli rub and chilli toasted sourdough sando!
Never disappoints! Bread puddings are the best ever and I don't even like bread puddings!
DELICIOUS. DELICIOUS. DELICIOUS. This lil cookie definitely makes it into my 'top 3 cookies of all time' list. Perfect balance of salty and sweet.
French style pastries that are very flakey and buttery with great flavor. They are also enormous. Eating a croissant that is as big as your face is a great way to start the morning.
Pretty hard to find if you havew never been there. Great music all day, good for chilling out and having a good coffee.
Have you ever seen that meme from Futurama where Fry yells, "Shut up and take my money!" while waving a handful of cash? That's literally how I feel every time I step into Tartine. Because my apartment is only a few blocks away, this is actually very dangerous. Almost as dangerous as cliff jumping or shark diving. Except I go like once a week... so yeah. Sometimes, I just feel like I deserve a pat on the back for being such a daredevil, you know?
Great food and coffee but ordering system could do with a rejig as it puts a bit of a downer on first impressions.. Grilled sandwich was pretty oily. also, I feel coffee bar could do with having it's own til for anyone just wanting a coffee, or for folk who want a second coffee, rather than queueing for another 30mins.
I don't know how many of you also struggle to find the right flaky crust to soft inside ratio for croissants, but this is one of the only places in the city that does it right. I also ordered a latte and it seemed to have come in a bowl...not sure if I really needed that much latte but I still appreciated their dedication to caffeination. Be ready to wait for like 30 minutes for a pastry and coffee, but I'd say it's worth the hype.
I'd like to fly back to S.F. just to get another ham and gruyere croissant from here. Best I've found!
Best lemon bar of my life! But my favorite cake (tres leches) was not very moist and had a similar consistency to store-bought cake. I'm sure they have other really delicious items and would probably go back. There was a big line when I went, so that's saying something.
One of the flakiest and most delicious croissants in San Francisco. Small store with only seven items that are all amazing! Very friendly staff and quick service. Definitely recommend if you are looking for an authentic French experience.
Relaxing place to grab a bite. Everything was tasty as heck.
This has got to be one of our all-time favorite bakeries.... The quality of the food is bar none, even compared with the best bakeries in Europe. Every time we come back to SF, we have to make a trip to Tartine.... The neighborhood has gotten a little better, but still maintains it's independent and gritty vibe. The baked goods are the Stars here, and you should definitely get here earlier during the day if you want the best selections, as they do sell out. And expect long lines. Service is ok.... Depends on who you get to assist you.
Always long lines but it's worth the wait! Come for some incredibly tasty desserts. Water is available for free in the corner. You can sit inside or outside.
Tartine Bakery is awesome!! They have a selection of baked goods but I always go back from the bread pudding. The line gets really long as it is a popular place, but I never leave unsatisfied. Definitely give their cakes a try too! And while you're in the area, grab a Philz while you wait in line :)
I wish i had an option to give some additional stars. I am definitely a dessert lover , but the pancakes i got at this place were amazing. They were the fluffiest pancakes i ever had.
Friendly and fast service.
I'm fond of this place.
Thank You Tartine Bakery for the fantastic food.
Morning buns were delicious yet waited 15 mins for tea. The barista argued with us saying we didnt order/pay for it and then proceeded to ignore us after she started the tea. Would not visit again as I'm sure there are other great bakeries with better service.
Went to this bakery on a recommendation by a local. Absolutely amazing chocolate croissant! I also got the corn and squash quiche that was fantastic as well. Line was long but moved quickly. The staff was very friendly as well. Highly recommend.
