Obviously this place is amazing. Crussants of all types are a breakfast favorite for me. The ham and cheese is particularly good. But I usually opt for a gooey morning bun and chocolate Crussant.

Bread is of course amazing. Sesame and county sourdough being the best. It is a massive loaf so a half one will do for a couple people. You do miss out on day after cinnamon toast though

No getting around it but the line is enormous most days. Service is quick enough but so many people go here on a pilgrimage for out of town. If you are dying to go prepare to wait. If you are in the neighborhood I would just walk by in the mornings and afternoons to see how long the lines are. Everything here is special enough to rearrange dinner plans if you can be in and out in 15 minutes.

It is soooo good!!! I tried some of their cakes and a hot chocolate and everything was awesome! It is like having a sun in the stomach! I am very picky about bakery (I am french). The hot chocolate is usually something good but at Tartine Bakery it is delicious! The cakes were also a real real pleasure to eat. I will definitely go back there.

Tartine is a wonderful bakery and a generous contributor to our community. They regularly offer food for the homeless for the Gubbio Project. This morning they gave a birthday cake to Carlos, a homeless man who is wheelchair bound, for his 74th birthday. We really appreciate Tartine for caring about our less fortunate neighbors.

One of the best bakeries anywhere! Yes the line looks intimidating but it moves quite fast--honestly. Once you get inside and get to lay your eyes on the amazing selection of pastries, cakes, croissants and bread you will forget about how long you waited. Try the Morning Bun --you won't be disappointed!

When the smell of freshly baked bread hits your senses while walking down the street, you have no other choice but to stop. I was told that the line gets rather long, but thankfully it wasn't too bad when I visited on a weekday. It's a small space, so you're lucky if you get a table on crowded days. I tried the croissant and it was full of buttery, flaky goodness. The walnut bread is also fantastic. I wanted to try a hot-pressed sandwich, but not of the options were appealing to me (I don't eat meat and certain cheeses). Lots of delicious goodness was being sold. I'll have to go back another time.

Super cute bakery in the Mission with adorable pastries, cookies and delicious baguette! We came here to grab some cake and coffee to go. Since it was a Sunday afternoon, we had to wait in line for ca. 25 minutes just to order. More

Went to Tartine for the first time today and was not disappointed. It was quite busy on a Sunday around noon - the line was out the door and around the corner. My family and I waited about 20 minutes to make it to the line to order, and then another 15 minutes to get our sandwiches (made fresh). I had the ham and cheese sandwich, which was incredible. The rest of the family tried some sweets and quiche slices and said those were great, too. I'll be back for sure!

After hearing so much of Tartines from yelp and few friends, we decided to buy some desserts to go - we tried the chocolate cake and the hazelnut one - to be honest, nothing really amazing. After realising we didn't try none of their best selling items (like the tarts) we gave this place another try - pride weekend we got a spot outside (table was dirty and there was still empty cups from the previous customer and so did the next table) but who cares right - we aren't that high maintenance anyways so like a good wife that I am, brough out my napkins and wiped out the table myself and put the other stuff away from the table :). We had a lemon tart and a coffee. My husband who is a coffee freak wasn't really pleased with his coffee and we both felt the lemon tart was just as good as any other regular dessert place. Conclusion? It is not worth the wait and the hassle of this super hyped place, we also find it tad expensive. More interested in finding those small spots that make great desserts and even better coffee and you don't need to wait that long for. By no means, I will still probably return to this place to try more of their cakes to see if I change my mind :)

One of my favorite bakery shops in SF, I always try to do a breakfast here when I'm in town.

Baked goods, savory and sweet (pastries to sandwiches). I've tried many items over multiple visits, all quite well executed. Enjoy the coffee service as well, not a lack of options.

Expect likely long lines from this popular place, close to the Mission.

Finally made the pilgrimage! A fair wait but the croque monsieur was delicious and so was the croissant. Wish I could ve tried everything! As a traveller not practical to buy a sourdough loaf unfortunately.

Oh my goodness .... my wife bakes sourdough and this was a must-stop for her research. Am I glad we did! We tried another "famous" bakery on the Pier and was sadly disappointed, but Tartine lived up to it's reputation in spades. By far the best sourdough and pastries we've had the pleasure of experiencing. Now if only they'd sell us some starter ....

I first heard about Tartine, and their ancient grains bread in a book Cooked, by Michael Pollan. So when I was in the area, I had to check out this amazing loaf.

The bakery has a number of other traditional options, but on this journey I was on a specific mission. Luckily, I happened to arrive just as the breads were being sold, and waited in line for about 20 minutes to get it. You can order in advance over the phone it seems. Anyway the bread was warm, and so delicious.

Can't imagine anyone going here cares about the food. The wait time is absurd and no where close near to worth it, but if you want the pic to show your friends, I guess go? Place makes me cringe.

Very very good breads, always fresh, full of flavours. Downside: of course to get this quality you need to pay a price.
Croissants are too big, which turns them quite unrefined, the quality/flavour of the butter they're made of (provided that's what they're made of) is questionable.. pity.
Cakes, in my opinion, are not remarkable.
Anyway, head there to get good bread.

1st experience --- 2 yrs ago my sister in law introduced me to this lovely place of goodness.

Today 10/30 at noon I had to get my fix before I fly back to Oahu tomorrow. Brought my sister it was her 1st time. We ordered Morning Bun, Croissant & a latte. Pastries were on point. It fulfilled my craving.

Everything is awesome here. Staff was helpful and friendly.

Also I was super stoked that they are participating business w/ wewelcome.us

It was great to see the poster at the front entrance:

" WE WELCOME ALL

All Races.
All Religions.
All Genders.
All Countries of Origin.
All Sexual Orientations."

Croissant with double chocolate? That's what I'm talking about. A bit expensive for what you get, but you pay for quality along with hype. Their coffee is fine - nothing special. The bakery is why you go and you won't be disappointed (though I wouldn't dream of waiting in that ridiculous line on the weekends).

They prove that a crumbly, golden baked scone is really not that hard to make, after all! I love the lemon zest and the current bits speckled throughout! Very cute little corner location, came at the right time to just get a strip of shade before the sun hit my table on the sidewalk. Great way to start a San Francisco morning!

Delicious stuff! Must try almond croissants! Great coffee as well! There is usually a line but goes pretty quick. You will most definitely tempted by the extensive menu. They don't have many chairs to offer, so expect to take your breakfast and wait or take out. Great place for a weekend breakfast!

So on one of my latest business trips to the bay area, I did some Google-ing to see what bakeries had awesome sourdough to take back with me. This place showed up in the top rankings. I got a bead from the fisherman's wharf just to say I More

I was really looking forward to going to Tartine bakery. I am not sure if it was the location or the food but after eating the croissants here I fell sick terribly and could not eat anything for 3-4 days. I still liked the overall vibe of the place and feel that it could have been an allergic reaction that I had and so am giving this place 3 stars (plus my husband was ok with the food here). I will still like to check out the Tartine Manufactory.

Great quality bakery (european style). An absolute gem in San Francisco. You must taste the morning bun with a nice cup of cappuccino. There mostly is a long line outside, but it is worth the wait. Staff is not super friendly but ok.

Well, you have to go to Tartine bakery. Drop everything that is too important to drop, and go to Tartine bakery. NOW!

Despite what Google thinks (visited 3 years ago????) we buy Tartine baked goods at least once a month, but frequently much more frequently ;)

The Devil's food cake is great! The banana cream tarts are great! The coconut cream tarts are great! The croissants are great! The croquet-monsieur is great! The pastrami sandwich is better than, well anything. And the breads, especially the country loaf, are worth waiting in a 20-minute line to get.

In short, you will not find a better bakery experience in this world than Tartine bakery. Well, unless you happen to be in Paris and are in need of a morning croissant... then you do not need to fly home immediately. But when you do fly home, Tartine is there for you.

Amazing croissants (both butter and chocolate) and bread. Definitely stopping by again when I'm in the area. Be sure to come earlier, as a lot of their baked goods run out by the end of the day.

Best chocolate chip cookies ever!!!!!!!! Insanely thin and crunchy, they are basically crack. I love getting a couple and walking over to Samovar to enjoy them with their chai (make sure to get a few, they might not make it all the way there). Also be sure to try their coconut cream pie, morning buns and any or every laminated dough pastry!
