Amazing pastries, but the to-go coffee cups can't be trusted. The union between the cup and the lid is such that it spills out the sides as you walk, and leaks out onto you through the same union as you try to drink.

The first time I came here they were out of the banana cream tart. *sighs* so I got the passion fruit lime Bavarian rectangle. Ehhhhhhhhh. I thought it was just ok. Definetly did not understand the hype of tartine just based on that item.

BUT THEN I came back and tried the banana cream tart. WHAT. THIS is what people are talking about when they come to tartine. There's a reason it's one of their most popular items, it is BOMB. It's surprisingly light, but you can taste the layers of dark chocolate, caramel, and the crust. SO GOOOOOOD.

There's usually a line and it may be hard to find a spot to eat. BUT WORTH IT.

You may not know it, but when you dream of pastries, this is the place you are dreaming about. There is a constant line out the door and down the street, but the long wait is worth it. The scents coming out of the place torture you as you wait in line until you finally get a glimpse of the goodies waiting for you inside.

Very delicious baking room, you will see that the most people queue up from a distance. It is quite inconvenient to queue up to find a seat for internal use.Although there is a place outdoors, the seat is still far from the crowds. Even the famous park suggest that you can buy it and eat it while enjoying the scenery. It is especially recommended that the lemon tower is really delicious. It is definitely the top three lemon towers I have eaten in life. The flavor goes to the next level!

Cons: the music was too loud (employees couldn't hear customer's orders) and they got my order wrong for the croque monsieur (ham instead of turkey).

Pros: Absolutely hands-down THE BEST pain au chocolat I have ever had in my life, and I've had it in France, Austria, and Switzerland. From what I smelled and saw the quality of this patisserie is high caliber. Visit it for a guaranteed quality treat!

I'm giving it a 3 because of the bad customer service that I've received. Got some attitude from the cashier. He also seemed very impatient as I was asking a question. Overall product was good. I got the Ham Croissant.

Fantastic flavours in our food! My husband had the savoury mushroom Croque Monsiuer and I had the sweet Bread Pudding flavoured with lovely fruits. The coffee was really good but only available in a small size.
The decor and seating is basic but the food is delicious. It's a bit pricey but we'd definitely eat here again.

The chocolate cake is not the former, but the crumbles are too sweet and the lemon cake is the real lemon. I do not have the lemon food. I always eat the fresh lemon tea lemon bread. ..... ah ....... too much left .... This photo is left to eat. Why is lemon used? Why?

The only question here: is it a great bakery, or the greatest bakery? This question has stumped all of our greatest philosophers, since time immemorial. Upon eating his first croissant, Plato himself fell silent and, dumbfounded, exclaimed, "Eureka, I have found a delicious treat. May I have a Triple, Venti, Half Sweet, Non-Fat, Caramel Macchiato with which to wash down this delectable comestible?" I walked him to the nearest Starbucks, and then immediately returned to Tartine, for it is that good.

This place is always packed. It's created the phenomenon that you see on that Portlandia episode where the line to a particular breakfast place goes on for blocks. I'm not sure how they did it. It's good food, but a danish for $5 seems crazy. You'll have fun, though.

Overall this place was delicious. What my friend and I ordered was a bit pricy but I would pay a higher price for those items again. The top dessert was the lemon tart, which was super tangy but balanced with the meringue on top. The bottom dessert was a banana cream pie. It has a super flakey crust with a bottom caramel layer, bananas, vanilla bean pudding, a mountain of whipped cream, and chocolate shavings. I will be bringing friend and loved ones here when they visit.

Great place to spend half your weekend in line listening to the hipsters waiting in front of you. Seriously though, the bakery is legendary, they're just a victim of their own success.

Their lemon bars turn into sludge after a day left in no heat and this is after being told that it was fine in room temperature. The employee I talked to about it was really flippant and rude, acting like I was dirt at the bottom of her shoe. It seems like they thought they're the one that's famous, not the bakery. While not everyone there is like that, that's still not a good sign...

If you have a sweet tooth, Ariscault has the best best chocolate almond croissant. If I have to, I would open a line of credit to eat here. If you go on a weekend past 8am then there's going to be a line but the line moves fast enough so stave any hanger issues.

Awesome bread! Yeah, the line was long, but it was absolutely worth the wait. Me coming from Germany, I am always looking for decent bread, and here it is! Beer and book are also very good.

The food is really good. The best croissant ever. The bad is waiting in the long line and not explained things. They receive a lot of tourists but don't explain or present the products, so my tip is, ask everything. Furthermore, they need to speed up, stay in line 10 to 15 minutes to get a croissant isn't good. The country bread toast with butter and jam is unbelievable.

Perhaps I was expecting too much; I was very disappointed in my experience at Tartine. My friends and I waited in line for a half hour to try their renowned tarts and pastries. I sampled the Lemon Tart, the Pain Au Chocolate, and a Fruit Crumble.

The Pain Au Chocolate was not crispy and flakey as I expected it to be, the Lemon Tart too heavy and buttery, and the Fruit Crumble was bland and again, overly buttery. While the ingredients that they use are fresh, the pastries were far better looking than tasting and the atmosphere all around too chaotic. I am not sure that I would visit Tartine again.

Best thing to do is order 3 days ahead for pickup. Lines are super long on weekends and if you're picking up you can slip the line.
The baked goods are delicious. Best croissant I've ever had and the lemon meringue cake (not pie) is wonderfully tart.

The best tarts in whole SF! Real french style pastries, bread and cakes to die for, and a very cute setting. Gets very busy in the afternoon when they are baking new batch of bread though.

Kudos for the Frangipane Croissant and the Morning Bun. The frangipane was excellent and we loved the caramelization on the morming bun. The Pain au Chocolat was not exceptional though. The coffee was just there, nothing noteworthy.

Simply amazing. Most classical pastries like scones and croissants are available in a sweet and savory version, with the latter combining excellent mixes of cheeses, mushrooms, or meats which complement each other very well. The scone dough had that nice soda bread taste. The croque monsieur had a local ham that only got better with toasting. The hazelnuts in the hazelnut tart were the freshest I've tasted in years. Don't miss Tartine if anywhere near around brunch time!

Come here if you're a baked good snob, and even if you're not. Pretty much everything is very good, and I find myself salivating and becoming very indecisive as I approach the glass case. Bonus for the ~cool Mission vibes~

If you're going to go, and you should, get there early to avoid the lines. The sourdough loaf is amazing. The bread pudding is amazing. The cakes are decadent. The sandwiches are heavenly.

Best sourdough bread I've had in SF! And I've had Boudin sourdough as well. The pastries are also amazing! My only issue was that the sandwiches had bread that were a little greasy and overly toasted and too expensive for what you get. Some vegetarian options, no vegan food options.

It s actually rare for me to try freshly baked bread. Definitely a treat trying the baguettes and the sourdough bread here. Was only able to try the almond croissant but they were all a treat to have. Parking as usual is difficult but worth the try after you find a spot.
