Stopped off here on the way to Machu Picchu and when I first got to Sun Gate I thought it was Machu Picchu. To be the surprise of walking around the corner where there is nothing to suddenly be greeted by these ruins was amazing. The views down the mountain were amazing too.

Fantastic views from this point of the machu pichu, highly recommended to do the walk until you reach sun gate, it is a pleasant road of about 40 minutes going up to this point where you will see another perspective of the citadel, it is worth going and taking a while once you reach the place.

The Sun Gate was the highest altitude spot along my 2 day hike with Llama Path. The view is amazing. Some people are disappointed if it's cloudy when they reach the Sun Gate, because you won't have a clear view of Machu Picchu. However, it was cloudy during my hike and the view was still awesome. You will have to hike to get to the Sun Gate, and it isn't easy. It's definitely worth it though.

After 4 days on the Inca Trail you get to experience this as the sun rises and the skies clear.
It's an incredible reward for the time and effort you've spent over the past four days.
It's something that you'll never forget - and it should be on your top ten list of morning views to experience

Machu Picchu offers several trails for those who enjoy great adventures and strong emotions and one of the most well-known and popular with tourists and visitors is the one that leads to Intipunku or Porta do Sol More

I struggled to get there, but it was worth it in the end. A show to see Machu Picchu from afar. To do absolutely

We were one of the first people up there- hike pretty doable- but it was soo cloudy that we had almost lost hope of seeing anything. Finally cleared up (after two hours) but it was worth it. Make sure to ask if they are still closing it off for maintenance.

Puerta del Sol, is the entrance to the sacred city, from here you have a spectacular view of the Inca architecture, you can see the winding Urubamba river, the zig-zag of the road that rises from hot waters to the citadel, Cerro Huayna Picchu, and obviously the majestic, enigmatic and incredible Machu Picchu Wonder of the world. I loved!

Absolute must !! If you go to Machu Picchu - mind you go and don't let yourself be carted up by bus like 90% of the selfie tourists - the further 300 meters in altitude are well invested. The view of the temple complex is fabulous. Depending on the weather / temperature, quite exhausting, but possible in 45-60 minutes.

It's hard to walk when the scaffolding is rugged. If you go back and forth farther than you expected, you will eat up quite a bit of time, so if you have a tight schedule, you might want to leave. It s better to stop when the weather is bad.
If it is sunny and you have time, the view is good and Machu Picchu looks beautiful.

We didn't get to see it at the solstice but it was beautiful. And what a great feeling of accomplishment. When you hike the Inca trail and come up on the sun gate and can look down and see the final finish. All that hard work, the sore legs, the muscle pain. It's all worth it. Do see what the Incas saw from the sun gate is truly majestic.

Here the sun gate was the highest entrance to Machu Pichu and is a magical place. Climb immediately as soon as you enter the gates in 40 minutes or get there by trekking on foot from Aguas Caliente in 4 days.

Aaaaaaaaah, the Sun Gate. After the tour of Machu Picchu we all had some free time to chill. I decided to hike up to the Sun Gate
What a GORGEOUS VIEW!!! I didn't know this at the time, compared to Rainbow Mountain, this was a snap! What was most intriguing was the guard at the gate. He was there to make sure you didn't take the other Inca trail . I would have loved to, however that's another trip.

This is where the Inca trail leads in to Machu Picchu. The trail comes from the southern side of the mountain to this position, where there is a structure that looks down to the ruins about 1000 feet below. The trail between Machu Picchu and the Sun Gate is paved with Incan cut stones, and is wide enough to allow for the Incan Emperor to be carried on his royal litter. The guide explained how the royal peregrination was a major event here.

Where: Cusco, Peru

Where: Cusco, Peru
What: Machu Picchu, The Inca lost city

How was it: This place is great, and totally worth checking out. Actually, the Sun Gate, is quite a walk so be ready for that. Our guide warned us it would be roughly one hour each way and that's how long we took. This is a nice walk and escape from the busy setting at Machu Picchu, so if you're looking for some peace and quite, this is your place.
Also another place worth checking out is the Inca bridge. It's quite breathtaking and a little quieter than Machu Picchu itself.
We heard that staying in Aguas Caliente overnight was expensive, so we did it in one day. Doing it over again, we might consider staying one overnight.. Also, try to make sure you are acclimatized, even though Machu Picchu is at a lower altitude than Cusco, it's probably best not to rush into it... Just a suggestion.
Everyone has a different experience, but these are our thoughts shared with you ! ;-)

Grade: Eli = 5, Serge = 5
Recommend: Yes, it's quite a walk but really worth it !
