Sun of the Andes Review

A moderate gradual hike that takes you to the original entrance into Macchu Picchu. Some say the hike will take 3-4 hours roundtrip, I agree if you are over 70 and/or have mobility issues. The hike took our group of 10 people under 2 hours.

A two-hour trip, back and forth, away from the bustle of visitors to Machu Pichu, enjoying the scenery and silence. Beautiful and accessible walk along the path of the Inca.

It is a myth that we reached ideally after the Inca Trek, after climbing the "hikers killer" staircase that as the name suggests puts a strain on your thighs. It is before all a magnificent point of view on Machu-Picchu, first vision that one will have of this jewel hidden on the Andean peaks. In short absolutely beautiful, the perfect spot for beautiful selfies.

Unforgettable place! Walk about 2 km on the old Inca Trail to the Sun Gate. That's exhausting, but you have a great view of Macchu Picchu.

A trip to the Sun Gate is worth the hike. Even if you just climbed the never-ending staircase up to Machu Picchu, find the reserves to do this extra trip. It only takes about 40 minutes to get there, and most of the hike is a gradual incline with a few stairs (this is Machu Picchu after all...). Parts of the trail are shaded and good spots to take a break if needed. Bring water if it's a hot day though, you will be in the sun for most of the hike on a nice day. The views are fantastic, especially if you didn't pay to do the Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain climbs. There isn't much vertical exposure on this trail, and the path is wide, so it is suitable for people who don't like hights (if you can handle the rest of Machu Picchu you can handle the Sun Gate). Overall a great short hike.

It is a 40-minute tour that is preferable to the Wayna Picchu (since it does not require an additional entrance). The view from the door of the sun is unbeatable. Recommended

Beautiful view, we walked there after Climb so it wasn t the easiest day, yet its worth the walk and the view and also it is an easy walk compared-to the hike up Machu Picchu

For the ones who are doing the inca trail, this is the first view of Machu Picchu city after 4 days of trail.
For the ones that are only visiting Machu Picchu, worths going there if you are not going to climb Wayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountains. From the Sun gate, or Intipunku (in quechua), you will have a view from the top of Machu Picchu.

Get away from the crowds for a awesome views over Machu Picchu! Wear your hiking shoes, it's 300m uphill!

Nice view of Machu Picchu, 45 minutes there and 30 minutes back. If cloudy, you can skip it if necessary.

Worth the hike, it's a bit of a trek but views are spectacular.. Make sure to do this trail first or you may not have the energy to do it later. First section of the hike is the hardest so doing get discourage.

Intipunku ("The Gateway of the Sun", "Sun Gate") is a small Inca temple located on the pass over Machu Picchu. Ruins of Intipunku are last monument of Inca trail before Machu Picchu - from this point the ruins of famous city are perfectly visible.

Hiking on the Inca Trail across the Sungate to Machu Picchu is something very special! Very exhausting, but unique!

Meet the Inca Trail. You can't go in anymore, but if you can't climb Montagna and Winepickchu, this is a good option.

We climbed up from the bottom to the top , it took a while and was quite steep When We got yo the sun gate it was bloody but after a few minutes the clouds cleared , amazing, worth every drop of sweat getting there

About an hour's hike from Machu Picchu - well worth it if you have the time! Fantastic views of the citadel, especially around sunrise or sunset. Be aware that it closes around 4pm though, so if you cannot start hiking by 230-3, it may not be worthwhile.

Climb to the sun gate from Machu Picchu to get the best view of the city and the one the Incans would have got as they arrived on the trail. A slow walk up would be 1 hour, we managed it in 35 mins. Fairly tough uphill walk...

Was quite cool, but missed out on the, probably magnificent, view due to clouds..

Amazing place, the view is from another world! Medium physical level, low technical level; So the only excuse for not achieving it is yourself, something unmissable if you visit Machu Picchu

It lasts the climb of 35 minutes, but it is worth it for the beautiful view, exercise in the height, and contemplate more the buildings of the Incas.

Good place to see the lost city of the Inca, for which we have no entrance to the W.PICCHU.

The hike up to the Sun Gate can be a challenge at it's elevation, but it is well worth the hike. The views from here are breath taking.

This is a labour of love. The hike to this spot is insane but all the travelers are friendly and let you know when you're getting close. The view is well with it though. Truly stunning!
