Sun Island Resort & Spa Review

Everything is great) the food is delicious, do not stay hungry. The island is well-groomed.

A great 4 star hotel, nice staff, who always do their work in a loving and cheerful mood, even without tips. I have never eaten such good pasta with Italian sauces in any other hotel. The only point of criticism is the bread which is edible but could be tastier.
Cappuccino delicious, fish always delicious and without bones.
Chicken sometimes very good, sometimes a bit dry, but with the delicious sauces it works. Bike rental overpriced at $ 5 per day plus service and taxes,
Drinks and alcohol extremely overpriced;
a 0.3l cola costs 4.50 USD and doesn't really taste fizzy, beer 6.50 USD
There is water for free with all meals so the hotel is actually very recommendable!

Friendly staff, sharks and other fishes, nice rooms (water bungalow), great for snorkeling, paradise.

Ambience is good but need to improve in house keeping and cleanliness....

Delight with the island, simply a paradise on earth, nature unique and beautiful, water as well, excellent service and resort, good food, all recommendations for the island. Whoever has the opportunity should not miss to visit him.

A tropical paradise. Absolutely amazing - 10 unforgettable days

The place is really cool to get there is very tiring, the food is spicy, who does not eat spicy outside of rice and potatoes will not have what to eat.

We had a blast in this amazing resort in the Maldives. We spent two great weeks in January 2019 out there and we would stay forever if possible. The variety of food was perfect for us. We had a chance to snorkel with fish, black tip reef sharks, mantas, turtles and even whale shark. The stuff in the hotel is also very friendly. My recommendation: go there, relax and take excursions because it s worth it.

The island can be reached by plane from Male - the runway is on an island adjacent to Sun Island and from there by motorboat to the port of Sun Island.
The service is excellent, the hotel base is more than pleasant - bungalows around the island, each with a beach, sunbeds and a veranda to the sea, as well as the typical "villas in the water". I personally prefer the sand and we were surprised to find that as soon as the sun goes down the beach literally comes to life - thousands of crabs and crabs jump out of their hiding places and start looking for food.
I especially liked the decision for open and closed part of the bathroom - taking a shower right under the palm trees was my favorite moment.
The food is plentiful for all tastes, and the decision to have their own table in the restaurant shows a very good managerial approach to the comfort of guests.
The pool was originally made with an island with palm trees in the center and a bar in the water. Next to it is the all-day disco bar, where there is a varied program every night. Very close is a coffee aperitif offering snacks, cocktails and great coffee.
Attractions such as feeding sharks and stingrays, crab competitions, outdoor entertainment, snorkeling, fishing and more. are in abundance.
There are also organized yoga classes and a fitness center. In a separate part of the island are sea sports (there is also a bar among the palm trees for those who are not sports-minded).
Travel around the island is on foot, with bicycle rental or electric cars. Even the staff uses electric mopeds so as not to disturb the vacationers.
The year-round temperature is 28-29o and it rains for a short time almost every day, but the humidity is not felt. Umbrellas are provided in each bungalow due to the climatic features.
I was pleasantly surprised by the good coverage of WI FI throughout the island. It allowed us to use Zello, Viber, Skype for conversations with each other without any problems! Just the internet card I bought for 15 USD from Male turned out to be superfluous.
In addition to the main restaurant on the island, there are several other such as Italian (on the pier itself), where they also organize snorkeling, Thai, etc.
The Spa center is also interesting.
Most surprising to me was that the fauna was mostly represented by crows. Between the palm trees there are something like local wild hens, and a particularly attractive long-legged chicken and several huge bats diversified the environment.
The water is a unique color, clean and pleasant to swim, but care must be taken with the pieces of coral in the sand on the beach and in the water. You have to walk 30 meters inside to be able to swim. The water is calm and transparent - you can see in the distance how the ocean waves crash into the reef. There are swings of various types all over the island, even hammocks in the water.
It is interesting that small sharks pass gracefully around you when you bathe, but you must keep in mind the stingrays.
It feels like you have moved to another world. It is no coincidence that the Maldives is said to be a corner of Paradise. The time there flows so imperceptibly and you feel somehow purified. I recommend the resort and I admit I would be happy to rest there again!

Pure bliss. Spacious rooms, friendly staff, sprawling property and views to die for.

Although we were very unlucky with the weather, the island was pure paradise. We had a standard bungalow on the beach, which was big and well equipped for us. The cleaner Zabuz was great and kept our room spotless. Coconut treats, swans, and bottles of bubbly were left on the beds for our anniversary which was a nice touch.

The staff at the resort were wonderful and always happy to help. We were well looked after, especially from our personal waiter Babloo who was very attentive and went above and beyond.

Coffee shop was great, nice selection of tea and coffees and snacks available from 4 til 6. Again, all staff were great, Patrick and Anil in particular always welcomed us with a smile and made time to chat and look after us.

Food quality and choice at the buffet were excellent. We dined at the A la Carte restaurants for an additional fee (italian and thai) which were fantastic as they were a bit more special. You could also see sharks etc whilst dining at these restaurants!

Good selection of drinks (however premium brands were an additional price). Only downside is that you are not allowed to take any drinks back to the room, as they want you to purchase drinks and snacks from your mini bar. (note, you do get water and some soft drinks free from the minibar).

Overall an excellent holiday with amazing staff. Would highly recommend, however the all inclusive set up is not as all inclusive compared to other resorts we have experienced (hence the 4 stars).

A dream island in the Indian Ocean with incredible greenery, a beautiful house reef and a very beautiful staff.

Lovely tropical island with a luxury resort. Food is awesome with a wide range of continental buffet. The shallow sea around the island provides excellent place for snorkelling and water sports. They also have water villas in the sea where you can get fantastic views of the ocean.

Visited Sun Island with family. We took a full board package (via Island Voyage Holidays) and stayed at the Superior Beach Bungalow for 4 days and 3 nights.

We had an absolutely lovely time. The food was excellent, there was a wide array of games/activities and the sun-kissed beaches were to die for. Rooms were clean and the staff extremely friendly.

Only minor areas of improvement were housekeeping (we felt the daily room cleaning could have been better) and our rooms (while they were on the beach, they were quite far out from the sea). But neither of these take away from the experience. It was one of our best holidays; most of that is courtesy the hospitality and attention to detail at Sun Island Resort.

It's around 100 km from the male airport. You can take 20 minutes domestic flight or 5-7 hours of speed boat to reach there. It is very beautiful distant island. Marine life if very rich. Although corals are dying day by day but still you can see nice ecosystem underwater. There are lots of excursion like swim with shark, manta and whale shark, scuba, snorkeling on blue lagoon. In water sports you can do canoeing, jet blade, para sailing etc. Amazing views and beaches are available for your relaxation.

Sun Island... Am lost for words.. a paradise.. had the best 6 days here.. water villa is the place to stay.. will come back for sure...

Excellent and beautiful structure. Heavenly.
Abundant and varied both breakfast and lunch and dinner always buffet style. I was in a superior beach villa, facing the sea. Clean and comfortable.

EXCELLENT!!! No better word than this. Right from the pick up at Male airport to the hotel & fro the journey was simply amazing. The staff is always smiling, cheerful & ready to help. Special mention for JOY & ALAM at the restaurant for their service and extra effort they took for our daughter, they are one of the reason why we might go back to the same resort. We were staying at water villas, the room was clean, daily serviced, has excellent view and direct access to the ocean is icing on the cake. Food served was Indian & Continental, both hold their respective charm. All in all had a memorable stay.

This was my dream trip, i couldn't have asked for a better resort. Everything was exceptional. The food spread was awesome,the weather was great.,activities at the resort was very good... We dived, snorkeled and did some water sports.||The water is amazing and the rooms too good to be true!the pool was also fun...it was a very nice stay here...

Is beautifully. Service treats guests like kings - they are very smiling and helpful - you can see that it is not artificial, only they are happy. It is very expensive - you need to pay attention to which prices include tax and so-called service charge and which are not. Therefore, 22% (12 + 10) should be added to some prices. In the option fb (3przykski) we paid $ 900 for leaving for 6 nights. Medium daily: one small meal (high tea) and about 4 drinks, we also took a snorkling trip for $ 100 per person.
In order to feel at ease and not regret anything, I think that one should take $ 1000 per head additionally.
The food in the main restaurant (cafeteria) was not heavenly, but ok. But in restaurants it was delicious, at the right price.
Every day in the main bar are some performances or dances so you can spice up the time.
In the evenings at scheduled times, you can watch the feeding of sharks and rays.
The island is beautiful and well-groomed.

The nature of this island and the conditions for a Maldives vacation are simply phenomenal.
Unfortunately all of this is ruined by the incompetent staff and the most impossible management that I have ever experienced.
As an all inclusive guest you are treated really badly.
Drinks have all expired, be it at the pool bar, in the main restaurant and even in the mini bar.
Not a day went by or discussions, be it at the bar, in the restaurant or at the reception.

I would like to mention two positive things.
On the one hand, it is Shaira who was always at our side with all questions, and was really the most competent person we met there.
On the other hand, it's Manik, our waiter at meal times.
These two people were the only ones of about 200 who understood something about service.
Only because of both of them I give each one a star, otherwise it would really be 0, which is really sad.

I could write so much but I think that says it all.

Conclusion: for this money I am treated better elsewhere.
So never again !!! :(

Out of planned four days, 2days were wasted due to inefficient and careless transfer planning ( no option but to opt for this at a charge of one way india Usa fare) while coming landed at 1 pm, transfer arrangements were so pathetic that I reached resort at 8 pm. No prior information nor support at airport. While coming back 4 pm flight but I had to start at 6 am. No prior information nor alternative arrangements so you are at their mercy

It's the place of dreams...was more than I expected it to be.Maldivian in every sense and pushing the bat of island resorts ever higher.Great reception by staff , rooms very clean.Most flooring within the resort is wooden and still impeccably well maintained.You won't feel the need to leave.There are to many activities from all-you-can-think water sports to a fully fledged sports centre.The surrounding waters are crystal clear.Enjoy the walls , get a bike if u can't walk.Very beautiful place...just brilliant

All perfectly. At the moment we are on the island. The island is medium in size - from one end to the other go about 20-25 minutes along the paths. The vegetation is thick. The sand on the beach is pure algae and no debris. The rooms are different, they lived in the usual bungalows and superior beach bungalows, and were also guests at San Villa. There is a difference, expressed mainly in the area of the rooms, equipment (for example, in a usual bungalow scourge, a TV-set, an old split-system, etc.), a bathroom, etc. Depending on the location of the bungalow on the island, they noticed a difference in the water washing the beach, i.e. on the one side of the island the bottom is littered with coral remains and algae, and there is always calm, i.e. the water is calm, but on the other side of the island the bottom is more sandy, but the wind is constantly felt and the waves are small. In general, the infrastructure is developed, there is entertainment for every taste from fishing to parasailing after a boat. The staff is a Russian-speaking Friendly

That was our third island in Maldives, I think it's also the largest island. There are plenty of activities both indoors and outdoors. The staff are extremely friendly, like everywhere else. A beautiful island with a lot of potential.

What was really not nice:

- A lot is being built e.g. new beach bungalows, new paths etc.
- some construction workers often leave plastic garbage lying around, not nice to look at ..
- Eating was very exhausting, a huge hall where everyone ate, a lot of people who push and know no politeness ..
- many Russians 80% very rude, disrespectful! I am Russian myself and I was very ashamed of my compatriots !!
- There was also shark / ray feeding. It was interesting to have seen something like that. The animals are fed every day and well ... is up to you to decide what to think ...
-All inclusive is not all inclusive, the drinks are not great! But those you paid extra yourself were mega.

We made the best of it and spent a lot of time in the water looking for quiet places to rest. It was really nice on our side, we saw a lot of corals and a lot of fish, we have never had such a beautiful laguna. I hope that the resort will be preserved and protected. We also took our own SUP with us and had a lot of fun with it.

Different varieties of wild birds ... SPECTACULAR.
Sea lovely, full of tropical fish, sharks, manta rays and turtles.
Every day, late in the afternoon, they give food to sharks and manta rays (ask to know place and time) ... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Excellent cuisine, fish in the morning and grill it in the evening.
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Overall a great place.

Lovely views ... turquoise waters ... huge bats. ..a beautiful reef and a huge number of sharks.

The island is gorgeous, as always in the Maldives. Big plus points are the whale shark and the manta rays. The management is very bad! The staff is so poorly trained that they do not even know the most important basics of good service (and this in the high season). In addition, nothing is advantageous for the all-inclusive customer ... Most of the minibar has to be paid for by yourself, especially the mineral water (nature and sparkling)! With badminton or fitness, most of the drinks have to be paid for by yourself.
The buffet is structured purely on Italy and Arab countries.
It is not financially worthwhile to go on holiday on this island, as there are several times more comfort on other islands for the same money (or even less!). We felt like we were on the stock exchange, investing a lot of money and receiving little in return.
A shame for the investors ... if they weren't for so many tourists, they would certainly change the concept and take an example from the other resorts ...
This is our sixth time in the Maldives and always a different resort. Take an example from Atmosphere or Ozen (already just Thulaghiri), these are real hosts and offered more than double that for their clientele!
The good reviews on the net are largely from people who do not know any other resorts. So, from experience only suitable for divers with whale shark experiences!
Hoping that management will respond. A professional could certainly help you or someone could learn the politeness and comfort!

Really splendid place for vegetation, sea and services offered. The coral reef, however, remains far away so not ideal for snorkeling. The atoll runs very well by bicycle, the beaches are ideal for long walks.

Fantasia at the Best of the Maldivian Islands. Perfect reptiles, clean, cool, food and rooms. Daily feed of stingray, ripe, gym, etc. Just a bit of exaggerated water activities. Personal a little floats in the organization, necessary English

This place is amazing. I really enjoy myself here souranded by beautiful nature, sea world an kind people! Love it!

I stayed a week in this beautiful location. All the villas are set in a natural environment. The services within the Resort (the only one on the island) are managed in an optimal manner, the people are very kind and helpful, I advise you to bring with you everything you need (even if you don't need a lot of things in such an environment) because there are no in fact many shops to gear up for forgotten things and above all because the prices are not really cheap as far as the extras are concerned.

I recommend the place for those who want to relax in the middle of nature

And the .... It's the disaster!

In any place it pays ... Apart from the restaurant and bars.

Let's take the example of the Sunshine Fishing excursion: You go by boat to fish, you bring back your fish and go to the hotel and the barbecue !!
Cool you would tell me ....

Except that once there is only the free fish ... The drinks that are free in the restaurant at 10M there are oddly paying ... The wine is paid while it is the all inclusive wine
