Sun Island Resort & Spa is a heavenly place where you can relax and get pampered into oblivion. The island is wonderful, compared to other resorts, it is much greener, full of gardens, trees and animals! The hotel services are top quality and the food is great. If you want to visit the Maldives, stay in an island resort and have postal-card vacations, then Sun Island is the place to be!

This is a perfect place for honeymooners. Sun Island resort and Spa looks good for those who prefer relaxing resort but not on a tiny island. It is not luxery hotel and needs renovation. Steel it remains to be a perfect option for a romantic getaway!

Being Harassed by Hotel as my flight landed 5 hrs before domestic flight.the resort is very very unprofessional and not at all co-operative. we landed at male at 12:40 pm and flight to sun island is at 5 pm. our day got wasted sadly. not at all recommended

One more day and we go home. I spent 10 days in this resort to say the least ... perfect, impeccable organization, extraordinary hospitality, almost ... obsessive cleaning, eating to be confused for variety and quality. I love the Maldives and over the years this is the seventh island I visit. I must recognize that only high professionalism can allow the management of over 1000 tourists together.
Only one criticism and for this I have not put 5 stars. I turn to the Management, so much quality and beauty and then you slip me on an excursion ... terrible. the Moon Lagon. Cost $ 66 and a small discount. Destination snorkeling in a coral reef and following a desert island called Robinson Crusoe '. Wonderful!! Alas, this is true: after 30 minutes by motorboat, the coral reef was a stream of gray, the fish? Maybe they were on vacation ... let's not be discouraged, the deserted island awaits us. The motorboat takes us back to our main island and they tell us that the deserted island is the one in front (100 meters) we go down and we see cranes and sheds in front. Let's not despair. Inside the islet they offer us a lunch actually on the Robinson type, but a little diet after so much eating is good. Soon, however, we realize that we are in the middle between a plastic landfill and one of moldy coconuts. My partner and I ask if we can go back ... we can't. The last emotion is missing: the little man who has to come and get us is half an hour late, an opportunity to live half an hour as a castaway, ... like Robinson Crusoe '. With sympathy and gratitude I invite the Management not to lose so much perfection just for ... $ 66.
One last and proper observation, I recognize that I certainly lack objectivity in the judgment, because the Maldives of the first trip remain in my heart ... in 1980, when the Maldives were an unspoiled paradise, with the backdrops as color palettes and when you it was almost difficult to swim from too many fish. And to think that then I had the courage to complain about the imperfect organization of the Maldivians. Thanks Sun Island. Claudio and Maria

Wonderful experience, one of the best resort of Maldives, it has given us the lifetime unforgettable experience.
Food quality is way awesome and rooms are well equipped and maintained to the standard all the time.
One should definitely visit the water bungalow.

This place is unbelievable Beatiful! The food is amazing as well as all the people working here. The Beach and the feeling of this Island cannot be compared with anything else in this world!

I would highly recommend everyone to visit this heaven which gives you such a good hospitality.

The location is beautiful and so is the property. You can enjoy watching stingrays and sharks.

Sadly, the management was not at all kind and helpful. Also, one of their representatives broke our suitcase as well while shifting the luggage

Very nice hotel, well placed, very nice waiter (in particular Youssouf Alam).
The bungalows are very spacious and pretty to see.
Unfortunately not having seen a whale shark for the moment (the hotel is popular for the presence of this animal all year round) I am a little disappointed.
I still recommend this hotel

We had a fantastic honeymoon and can only recommend the resort. Wellness treatment and snorkeling trip were very worthwhile and well worth the money!

Heaven on earth! Polite staff! Good food, great views! Feeding sharks and stingrays (it is a pity it is no longer possible for tourists to participate directly, but still cool)! It was twice and I dream of the third. Recommend.

Stunning place!! To get there you need a short plane transfer from Male to a nearby island, then a 10min boat ride to Sun Island (don't worry, they will organise it for you. If you can, avoid going through travel agents...they messed up all our transfers..the resort can do a better job ).
The island is fairly big so it has heaps of things to do, specially sport related (squash, badminton, soccer, tennis, minigolf and every water sport you could think of). You can get lost in their gardens and see how they grow veggies. Their bike system is really handy and really worth the price... remember the island is quite big!
The reef surrounding the island is house to small cute sharks you can swim with and the occasional sea turtles! You can snorkel pretty much all around the island in their crystal clear waters.
They have their own Dive centre and can cater for everyone from beginners to the more experienced certified PADI divers.
The staff is just the best, really friendly and they will all try to help you in anyway they can. They offer Gluten Free food options as well as vegan and vegetarian.
A sunset water villa is a winner! Any place really...hehe that being said, the rooms and furniture are a bit dated tho, but I think that'd be my only 'but', since we loved every second in the island!

In a nutshell: our expectations were exceeded!!! Therefore 5 starts.

It must be said that our bungalow was on the "right" wind side. Means in February the north-east monsoon is blowing and our bungalow was on the south side. I would recommend to pay attention to this, otherwise It can be very windy on the beach.
As the island is one of the bigger-ones, there is no crowds anywhere. We always had "our" beach section for ourselves.
Food quality was excellent, of course, subjective opinion. Service was also perfect and courteous.
As we say in Austria: Traumurlaub!!
Should also be said. Arrival about 24 hours and accordingly exhausting.

Views are breathtaking & exactly like the photos seen on the internet. I'm sure there are much better Maldive resorts out there though.

The over-water bungalow room was simple & air-conditioned, there was Wi-Fi access & basic hotel amenities/kit. You also have direct access to the clear-blue waters via a staircase from the back of the room - very convenient. The sea cucumbers & fish were friendly & the occasional uncommon sights (eg. rays, puffer-fish, baby black-tip sharks, titan trigger-fish) kept us interested & entertained. Make sure to bring your own snorkel gear as our travel agent told us that it was included at the resort which we discovered to be untrue after we arrived...luckily the resort had some for purchase...though at a hefty price. We also hired bikes (USD$15 per bike per day) which were great for exploring the island but they were very rusty & uncomfortable. I requested the smallest bike & apparently it was. However it was still too tall for me..I got bruising around the groin area - felt like I had been punched down there.

As expected, everything was expensive. I would recommend at least trying 1 activity during your stay to make your trip worthwhile (it is a once in a lifetime opportunity after all) - we did the sunset-dolphin sighting. We almost lost all hope at first as it seemed like nothing was in the waters for a while. We eventually did see some dolphins & the nice sunset. The couple spa was also a nice experience.

We got the all-inclusive package at the resort which only gives the perk of accessing buffet breakfast/lunch/dinner at designated time slots & some daily room beverages. You get allocated the same table each mealtime for the time of your stay but our table was given to another guest a day early which made it a bit awkward ... we did manage to get a different table in the end. Food was alright, nothing spectacular but enough variety to not be grossed out after a few days. Drink service was super slow...

Overall service at the resort was very slow &, in some instances, very inefficient & annoying. The buggie service seemed only existent at check-in & check-out, any other time during the stay would always be late. We tried a few times & were told to wait 10minutes in the room but after that time had passed we just decided to walk as it would've been quicker in the first place - we never crossed paths with the buggie on our walks either.

Allow for majority of the day for travel before you physically reach the resort. We departed Dubai airport at 9:45am & arrived in our bungalow room at 7:30pm...just in time for a rushed dinner. There's no direct way as Maldives consists of many islands & you need to organise your own domestic flight after landing at Male. Be prepared to go through customs again, get on & off a slow bus trip a couple of times before you arrive at a jetty to catch a boat to the final destination - but not before they mark your name off their list old-school style first! It was excruciatingly painful to wait & see the resort staff calling out names when they weren't raising their voice, couldn't pronounce names properly, & on top of that some of the guests were chatting & not really listening - it would've been much easier if the staff let the guests come up one at a time to find their name on the list. But that's not all, once you reach the reception area you need to sit down & fill out a quick form & then wait SUPER LONG for a staff to approach you before you can access your room as they need to induct about resort rules & attach a plastic wristband on you. The process to get off the resort is - unfortunately - very similar. We got a bit anxious that we would miss our flight.

Everything was very good. Staff is very polite and helpful.. I don't have words for place itself! Beautiful! But I have words for bungalow... Well it's is spacious and clean but furniture is for 1 star rating! Unbelievable! In season one night costs cca 400-500 , and for that sum you can buy new furniture.. Or pay someone to make new one from old tree's.. that would be cheaper because sallery

Spacious and welcoming resort on the Nalaguraidhoo island south Ari Atoll ... has beachfront beach bungalows furnished with care, clean and welcoming ... present in the room full HD TV and well-stocked mini-bar .. carefully cleaned twice a day , with change of towels when needed! Restaurant with international cuisine, able to satisfy all tastes and customers from various nations .. Friendly staff, helpful and always smiling, an added value in a great reality ... we felt well received and pampered! Highly recommended!

A paradise on earth, which is perfect for a honeymoon. The beaches and gardens are wonderful. Our bungalow was clean and comfortable. The staff very kind and friendly. The food in the main restaurant was good and diversified. The transfer to / from the airport was well organized.
However, it would be better if the TV and some furnitures are renewed and if the rooms have wifi access.
==============
Paradise island, ideal for a honeymoon. Sublime scenery, clean and comfortable bungalows, very helpful staff, good and varied food, well-organized hotel / airport transfer.
If only there was internet access in the rooms, and the TV and some furniture were newer.

The staff is very friendly, the food is fantastic. Unfortunately the bungalows are outdated. I cannot recommend a booking with all inclusive. The island is beautiful. The trips were great. The diving was fantastic and the support was very professional.

just back experience ruined by rules that do not find it anywhere, but that influence you the vacanza.Assolutamente not all inclusive, it's a rip off, even the trips are half fregatura.Se I was to return to the Maldives certainly will not be at the Sun Island. A suggestion first check the mini bar even with all inclusive there is the risk that you will end up with something that you have not consumed. Because you will have to pay for it. Even just for a small bottle of water, they will not restart you

It is a great hotel.

It is a great hotel.
My husband and I had a beach bungalow. The room was very clean and was done twice a day. The hair dryer and the neon tube in the bathroom could be replaced and modernized. We had to walk a little further to the restaurant but you could still take a walk.
On the beach we were mostly as good as alone.
The facility is constantly maintained. Gardeners can be seen everywhere.

What a shame is that all of them cost extra here. Bicycles cost $ 5 per day / person.
You should definitely book all inclusive, otherwise you have very high additional costs. Certain drinks are included here. Cocktails that are not on the all-inclusive menu start at $ 20. 10% service charge and 12% TAX are added to this. Therefore there is only 4 *.

But we had an all-round successful honeymoon and would definitely book the hotel again, as you have great space to walk here.

Experience-Loved the whole experience.

Experience-Loved the whole experience.
From check in to check out they take complete responsibility of the visit.
They have different budget rooms for all kinds of visitors.
We stayed in water villa and superior beach bunglow, and had amazing experience with both.

Food- Would suggest to take all inclusive or full board plan. Various options in buffet and live counters.Less options for vegetarian food or you can find that mostly in indian section.
24*7 operating cafe apart from buffet.

Water sports- Way too expensive and accessories are on rent. Prefer to buy your own snorkeling kits etc beforehand.

Beautiful hotel, everything is thought out to the smallest detail. There is entertainment for every taste, including a sports program by the pool and evening activities. Animators are great fellows! Special thanks to them!

In a few years, unfortunately, the original 5-star island was run down by a completely incompetent management to a complete underdog destination.
Unfortunately only more suitable if you do not make any claims.

How do you imagine the Maldives before you get here? Idyllic small islands with an intimate atmosphere? Sun Island Resort is the perfect opposite. However, even these crowds do not blur the beautiful view of the houses on the water or the marina. The picturesque swimming pool complements the paradise experience, if one expects it from such a place.
