Beech Mountain ski resort is the best ski resort for everyone! It has amazing staff, a variety of runs made for all skill levels, an on site brewery, and much more! I have been going here for 10 years and it is constantly improving. With the new groomers, updated blowers, and new LED lights, this place continues to impress me.

Oversold and under equipped. Went on 9 January 2021. Bought lift tickets a day in advance only to drive 3 hours to find no parking. People were parking on the streets leading up to the lodge from Banner Elk. Once in parking lot 2 (45 minutes later), an attendee asked for $30 for a guaranteed parking space (its supposed to be free). After parking in what was probably an unapproved place I walked to see what I can only explain as the most grossly oversold mountain I have ever seen in my 20+ years of snowboarding. I couldn t see the end of the lift line it went so far up the mountain.
Fixes: limit capacity to what your resort can actually handle with the covid mitigations. Opening up overflow parking will only exacerbate the issue.
Update: previous times I have been here the lift attendant was not scanning lift tickets. There may be people taking advantage of this, not buying a lift ticket and using the mountain, which could be adding to the crowd.

Great staff and lift personnel . Ski patrol professionals and ski instructors and classed offered for family friendly beginners. This ski resort has very nice lodge and can make snow when other slopes can not, due to high location. Great View!

Way over crowded. As soon as you get a little momentum 3 groups are sitting in the snow. For people who are good, you can probably figure out a way to go around or go on the harder slopes where there are less people. For people like me that are trying to learn it makes it hard when there is a drop and people just sitting there. You couldn t pay me to come back here.

Nice place to visit, but does not worth the money. It was our first time skiing we enjoyed our day. But few points worth mentioning; We didn't find any employee to help us where do we have to go or which lane we need to be in. Nobody mentioned to us the most important saftey points before we started. Place is designed for professionals rather beginners except for a very small area full of children. You can have lessons but you need to pay for it and wait. Nobody knows what the easiest area to start with. No music is being played in the background. Cafeteria food is not great, bring your own food if you can, coffee and hot chocolate are good. No lockers to keep your stuff in so you need to go back to your car many times. No changing rooms, use your car. Skiing is exciting and can be dangerous at the same time, so enjoy it to the max and be safe!!

I have been coming to Beech Mountain for the past ...
I have been coming to Beech Mountain for the past 15 years, in all of my times there I have always had great experiences. However I think things at this "resort" have taken a turn for the worse. Half of the staff were extremely rude, some didn't speak english, and many others had no idea how to perform the tasks they were assigned properly. They didn't cut off lift ticket sales when the should have, so the lines for the lifts took 30-45 minutes just to get on, with all of the starts and stops, it took over an hour just to make one run. Their rental and lift equipment seems old, outdated, and seems not to have been maintained well. Everything performed poorly, I would even be willing to wager not safely in terms of rental equipment. (half way down a run, the bolt holding the binding on my snowboard popped off, because it wasn't tightened properly). I don't think I'll be coming back to Beech Mountain any time soon.

Love it! The food and the service at the Taproom & Grille is top notch and the cafeteria food at the Lodge is also great! The brewery beer is amazing and we always stop by after a long day of skiing. The resort does a great job grooming the slopes and making the most of any conditions! What a fun destination year-round, winter or summer!!! Always something fun going on!!!!

Great selection of slopes, catering mostly toward intermediate riders.
Beech is probably my favorite snowboarding locale, with a ton of intermediate level slopes and a lot of variety. There are a few advanced slopes and a few beginner slopes, but there are better mountains around for new riders or those just looking to test their own skills. If you've been snowboarding a few times, however, and just want a good mountain to ride without wiping out a ton, Beech is the place to go.

We went to Beech for the first time & we were a bit disappointed. First, the parking was horrible. Second, employees NEVERRR announced anything regarding about social distancing, or wear masks, etc. We saw a lot of people not wearing any masks and employees never do/say anything. Third, it was very crowded. I'm pretty sure the resort sold as many tickets as they can because it was packed. Lastly, the line for the lift was LONGGGGG. I feel like we were standing in line for 20 minutes just to get in the chair lift. Smh!
The only good thing I can say is we passed by the town Banner Elk & it was really nice little town.
I hope in the future the resort will make changes with the parking, the lines to go in the chair lift, for them to really assure people that they are taking EXTRA precautions with COVID, not over packed the resort.

No signs to point you in right direction. Half the staff super friendly, half very rude. After skiing, purchased tube tickets for noon. At 12:30 Michael showed up, complaining that his help was two hours late but no one paid him to complain. Could only tube about 50 ft before having to walk down the slope and ride back up. Literally snows balls as big as basket balls in the lanes, as well as feces in lane one. Why even sell tickets if you aren't going to groom the runs.

I went to Beech mountain resort just at the beginning of there holiday season and have to say it was such a beautiful place to be with amazing employees. The atmosphere had a positive energy that was contagious. When I fell going down their bigger slope (which was a lot) people were so nice in checking to make sure I was ok and see if I needed help. The eating in the view house was great, the food was delicious and the view was even better watching people out in the snow. They just recently opened 5506 at the top of upper shawneehaw with a phenomenal organic coffee shop with amazing drinks and snacks. I highly recommend people to take a family trip and have the experience I did.

We came for the weekend with a small group of friends. We stayed at a cabin near by.
I enjoyed skiing overall-however all of the lines were incredibly long. We waited two hours in a line for food and about the same for one of the lifts to the green slope. The line for the lift to the blue slope was not as bad but it was my first time skiing so the blue was a bit scary for me. In addition, There were a lot of beginner skiers and people who were only just learning hot to safely get off the lift without falling. I didn t feel like the lift operators did a good job of keeping it safe. There were many times people had fallen off the lift and they didn t slow it down, they just kept it moving even though there wasn t really a safe route for the next person to get off because the people who had fallen were still in the path of the people getting off the lift.
We also and had a man reprimanding us for removing our masks to drink/eat a snack while we waited in the line for food, which was really over the top. There were people all around us eating food and drinking, the line wasn t socially distanced at all.
If you re that worried about covid policies you should definitely have better crowd control and the lines should never have been allowed to get as long as they were.

I was so disappointed! Beech is much more expensive to rent gear and the lift tickets, than Sugar mountain. At sugar everybody was much nicer and helpful. We were there as a first timer, tried to take some lessons in skiing. Signed up to take a class, rushed us to buy the lift tickets, buy the gear rental and when we were all done, went back to the school, right next to the slope, the guy told us "sooo sorry the teacher just left". He said "ohh I should've found you next door at the rental place to let you know, right?!" Yeah, would've saved us a lot of time, which is precocious on a vacation.

So excited to check this place out, however my expectations must have been too high. Customer Service doesn't exist here, Ski and board docks were only located in one spot, and $8.50 for a bun, beef Patty and cheese is a joke... Fries were ok tho. Runs are too narrow. So I guess if you like decent fries, narrow runs, and grumpy staff this place is awesome for you, but if not go elsewhere.

The mountain is beautiful. However the service of this place is HORRIBLE!! We called in advanced about rental gear as we drove up from Florida. They told us over the phone they are doing rental gear but when we arrived they told us the opposite that they are NOT doing rental gear. We had to bundle up the best we could in our hoodies and jeans.
When you are out on the mountain it is impossible to find someone who works there because they are not in identifiable clothing. The line for the snowboards was over an hour long and they only had 2 people working behind the counter!
We saw a manager walk by and we asked if they could get some more help behind the counter, and he was extremely rude and walked away and ROLLED his eyes! We were horribly dissatisfied with the service.

Beech Mountain is just a beautiful place to visit without being too crowded. One of the days we were at the ski resort, all the rental equipment was checked out and the parking lots were full, yet there was plenty of room on the lifts and slopes. I appreciate the fact that Beech Mountain Ski Resort manages the flow of people so well.

Disorganized. Why don't you have employees spend less time being mask cops and train them to operate the lifts? Parking was a disorganized mess. If you do concerned about safety you might worry less about mask wearing in the great outdoors and make sure the steps aren't slick and causing people to fall. Take your mask policy and stick it thank you very much.

This is a great family ski mountain nestled in the Blue Ridge mountains. As someone who grew up in Vermont and recently moved to NC, I look forward to my four hour trips several times each winter to glide down the trails and take in the glorious views. Night skiing is a fun option! The staff is friendly and prices are reasonable.

We went down the tubing runs twice and then the conveyor belt stopped working. They wouldn't let us walk up it, so we waited about 15 to 20 min. They would start/stop the belt, causing everyone to almost lose their balance. Seems that was more dangerous than just letting us walk up. Fortunately, no one got hurt. They eventually let us walk up, which is not easy for the older folks and young folks too. Those tubes are big, somewhat heavy, and awkward to carry. They let us go down again after it started working, only for it to all happen again. Again, another 15 to 20 minutes lost. Then, they let us walk up again. People were frustrated. We had lost about half of the 1 hr 45 min session at this point. The employees were very flippant and stated, "you won't get any money back...this happens a lot and it's often shut down for 30 min or more." Now, that is ridiculous. They charge $35/person and have 80 to 90 people for each session, which is every 2 hours. There is NO EXCUSE the equipment doesn't work. Also, it turns out the employees were supposed to space us every 20 ft to ride the belt. Why was this not known by the employees? They should be better trained, as this was not day 1 of the season. The belt quit working several other times. Many people just left out of frustration and irritation. Furthermore, the employees had no walkies to communicate from the top of the hill to the bottom. There is NO EXCUSE the employees aren't provided with the equipment they need. I called the administration office and they were not very helpful nor did they seem to care about the guests annoyance. This cost a lot of money and we lost at least half of our session, with no compensation nor concern from the office or employees.

Bought tickets the afternoon before since we knew they d been selling out. Drove 2.5 hours and waited in a long, super slow moving lines of cars for an hour before getting turned away at the entrance from a super rude and abrasive parking lot attendant who had absolutely no capacity to handle the stressful situation nor had any care for helping the copious amount of people that were getting completely screwed. Completely unacceptable and unprofessional on all counts. How could they have possibly so grossly underestimated their resources???

The man working the ticket sales at 11:30 am on Sunday 12/10/17 was extremely rude as if he couldn't give a damn about wanting a repeat customer. The screen with the ticket prices clearly showed a typo to where it showed an adult half day as $52.00 from 9-5 or from 1 to close. The adult full day showed the same times for $67.00. Clearly a mistake, but when I asked about getting a refund for a half day, they wouldn't even though the half day still had 1.5 hours remaining. If I want to only use a partial session then that should be up to me. Once I find how to post a picture of the screen I will. Otherwise I'll have an extremely hard time justifying returning to this establishment.

Beech mountain officially became my favorite ski resort here in NC. I love how the runs are wide with plenty of features. Our tradition normally takes us to Snowshoe yearly, but this year due to Covid we opted for Beech and we are so glad we did! I have been snowboarding for 10 years but only go once or twice per season. I'm pretty comfortable with my skills but Beech runs allowed me to learn tricks easily. Love it! Looking forward to go another time this season.

If you don t ski often, definitely do your research. This place nickle and dimes, offers no refunds or day transfers even due to inclament weather. I traveled here for Los Angeles specifically to celebrate my 30th Birthday with my family. We were fine spending close to $500 for rentals and passes for two days for two people. Not once did the ticket attendant explain that the weather would be bad or direct us where to look for conditions posted. I felt like such an idiot for not doing our research before hand.
It rained all day and we tried hitting the slopes only to get splashed with muddy water slides being shoveled by the staff and to find that half the slopes were closed.
I tried talking to the admin office and there was absolutely zero offering of an alternative. I wasn t even asking for a refund and simply asked to transfer the lift ticket to a different day with better weather for a friend to use and we are only here for two days and no dice.
I m sad that my birthday didn t turn out how I planned and only one sweet cafe worker would listen and say, I understand while the staff that could actually help me shut me down real quick offering no solutions. It was an expensive learning lesson. Live and learn.

Terrible customer service! Lift operators rude! Most employees in rental office were rude! Parking terrible -lots were icy and cars sliding everywhere. They were more concerned with people wearing masks for COVID then people s safety on the lifts or slopes! They act like they are doing you a favor if they have to stop the lift because someone falls or they just don t stop it at all and create a pile up. Terrible customer service and terrible management!!

I ve been skiing at Beech Mountain about 10 times over the last 20 years and normally enjoy it. However, while skiing today with my 7 year old daughter, we were almost hit / run over by careless riders. Let me be clear, these were not beginner riders, these were capable riders but just didn t care. I actually witnessed a young girl, who was the down hill snowboarder, get run over and the offending snowboarder give them them the finger, yell at them, cuss them and bolt down the hill. There was no ski patrol presence on the mountain in key areas and no speed control whatsoever. If you have children, go to Sugar, where they actually enforce good mountain etiquette. Very disappointed customer Beech.

Absolutely disgusting womens restroom. The only roll of toilet paper that could be located was covered in blood and who knows what else. Only one stall had an attached toilet paper holder and it was empty. In another stall there was a toilet paper holder, but broken and on the ground. Disgusting bathrooms are an easy fix.

Awful COVID protocols. We were there this past weekend. There were so many people there that there was no place to park in any of their lots. People were parking along the street. Some people couldn t park at all. So their reservation system is a joke. It s apparent that they just let anyone buy a ticket and come regardless of how many have bought tickets. No social distancing no limiting of crowds. If you re worried about the pandemic and Covid, avoid this place.

Always a wintertime classic for the Southwest FL Sciuto clan. The 12 - 13 Hour ride up from Southwest Florida / Naples is long, but it is a straight thru, if you can make it. The reason we go back every year is the way it looks after a big snowstorm. The deciduous forest-like features of the mountain area creates a winter wonderland like nothing else I've ever seen (except for Northern Baltimore County / MD - PA state line I-83 N).

Beech Mountain Resort is pretty decent skiing for the Southeast. We like the accommodations of Sugar versus Beech, and the longer runs at Sugar, but the pricing of Beech is a little more affordable. Even though it snowed 2-3 inches while we were there, and the temperatures were in the 20s and lower 30s for several days, only 6 of 16 slopes were opened. Just a little disappointed the blowers weren't even on in those areas, but I don't know how expensive they are to operate. Overall though, I'd go back again because it's a fun time and decent runs to go down for beginner to intermediate level skiers.

Made the trip up from Florida the weather was a little warm but luckily the night before was cold so they had made snow. Took snowboarding lesson and was on a green run by mid day. No trail maps, anywhere, not even next to the lifts. Just hop on and see where it takes you.
Very limited runs, 1 or 2 for intermediates.
SLOOOW lifts. Even the fast one is so slow getting off, it barely moves. Hard for boarders to get going at all.
Rock hard Ice! Board just skips and chatters when slowing down on the steepest parts, until you fall.
Dangerous. None of the jets or fans are protected. All kinds of equipment waiting for your face.

Wont be going back. Im comparing this to Wintergreen, VA which I like.

This review is mainly for the bike shop which had employees that lied to us on a couple of occasions and couldn't seem less interested in helping us out. The bike shop employees were extremely rude, lacked any kind of customer service, and did not pay attention to important details like rider height and weight. Lastly, in regards to the bike park: this place is not for beginners. Dont be fooled by their sole green run. Not only is their green not a green, but even if you were to conquer that green, the next easiest run is way too much of a jump to have a safe progression. Essentially, if you are new to bike parks and mountain biking, you will struggle through the green run and then will struggle through the next-in-line blue. Not enough beginner and true intermediate runs for it to be worth it.

I went downhill mountain biking with my son today, who s really into that. I ride a little, but this is the first time I rode downhill. Beach Mountain Ski Resort was a great place to start. They have several different courses with various degrees of difficulty.
The course is very well maintained. The staff was helpful, friendly and courteous. The view from the top is as good as it gets in the NC mountains.
The only area for improvement I experienced was the restaurant. It took about 40 minutes to get our food once we ordered. It was 2pm, so they were not busy. Other people around us were also complaining about the wait time. They took 10 percent off the bill, but this didn t make up for lost time on the course. The hamburgers were burnt and not good at all, but we didn t want to pile on the complaints. I ll bring a sandwich and eat in the parking lot next time.
Otherwise, wonderful experience!

My family and I visited Beech Mountain Ski Resort for New Year's Eve, although the facility is a beautiful location, all the staff that we encountered were very rude. After purchasing snow tubing tickets (at a high price of $32 per ticket) we were told during the session that our last time down the slope would be at 7:30 (although the session was supposed to go until 8pm.) Afterwards, we called the front desk to find out more about this experience (that we were never told upon purchasing) and two women who claimed to be managers were extremely rude to us (even hanging up on us!) To say the least, we will be back to the area, as the locals were all very nice, but we will be at Sugar Mountain Resort instead!

My kids, husband and myself LOVE this resort. My kids range in age from 10 to 15 and they love snowboarding on Beech. Over sold tickets! We waited in line and were told they didn t have any more snowboards even though we reserved online a week before! Gave us a refund but the lady working was extremely rude. I was being nice despite having drove there and wasted money on gas! I couldn t believe how rude she was. We left without getting to snowboard and wasting over four hours of our day! We have been at Beech Mountain Ski Resort many times, summer and winter. Our family has used every aspect of the resort, from ski school, snowboard lessons, ski lessons, skiing, tubing, skating, dining, drinking, biking, concerts and more! Never have we had a bad experience! Weather can often be an issue, but that's not the control of the resort. Everyone is always friendly, helpful, and truly concerned with our experience. Beech Mountain Ski Resort is a pretty, Bavarian style village with great brewery, good food, fun skiing, and lots of other amenities as well.

With all the snow up to 10 inches they had the last two days not many runs available. They don t have a good check in lift ticket system, had one person scanning everyone s lift tickets causing a huge line to get on the ski lift. For the cost for an all day ticket felt over priced. For lunch at noon with only a few tables occupied at the grill took over 40 mins to get nachos and a chicken sandwich. Waitress never apologized never said why it was taking so long, etc. I had to get up and find out what was taking so long - never got an explanation. Then took 20 mins to pay by credit card. A table next to us waited over an hour for mozzarella sticks.

Very disappointing trip. First, Beech was not following any Covid protocols. Second, despite booking my rentals weeks in advanced, they said they were all out of helmets. Likely because they were selling tickets to people despite signs saying they were sold out. I would not go back, especially during covid.

Beech is great. Best skiing in the southeast... it s a near perfect place for people to get an introduction to snow sports ... and it has enough of a village/ nightlife to keep those who don t ski happy too. If your bummed on crowds or lines do like the locals and come back on a weekday or a night, it s generally chill at those times ( this is the same for any ski resort in the US) Staff is friendly and well trained, snow is consistent, prices are more than reasonable (look up what a day pass costs a squaw valley ) and beer is cold. Bout all you need for a good day on the slopes.

Beech Mountain is my favorite place to ski in NC , the views are great given a clear sky, and the slopes are generally wider than most. Any ski resort in the South East has to blow snow to stay open, so sometimes you have to just deal with it and enjoy the day for what it is. I plan to bring my family here for another twenty years!

First ski trip in WNC. Stayed from 27-29 Dec. Very crowded, but expected, due to vacations. Get your lift tickets the afternoon/evening before or expect a long wait in the morning. Ski rental could have used more personnel working. Waited in line for an hour. Very stuffy in there while waiting to get your gear. Main restrooms by slopes closed. This was frustrating having to walk down and up stairs to use other ones which were not well advertised. If your condo rental has a kitchen, bring your groceries or stop in Banner Elk before driving up the mountain. No major grocery location after that. Resturant prices higher than one would normally expect at home. Plan for that as well. Next ski trip will look at other locations.

Place was closed since it is the off season. Saw several people in the area so they may be getting ready for the season.
Nice place to ski.
Nice place to ski.
Two thoughts:
1) Add Trash Cans. The mountain is trashed because trash cans are absent from the mountain. Watched ski patrol clean up tons of cans and litter. Problem could easily be reduced with some trash cans - at the top. Below the lift on the ride up. And At the bottom.
2) Run all lifts at night. Lift running to the blacks closed early at 4pm on a very crowded Saturday. (Seems to be a routine closure; not maintenance) Makes everything unnecessarily crowded - and lift line unnecessarily long.
Will come again.

I was very surprised with how difficult it was to find anything at this resort. There were a few signs saying which buildings were which, but very few large map signs. The lifts weren't clearly marked (or at all for some of them), and we spent the first 30 minutes trying to figure out what was what (while also talking to many other guests who were equally confused).
Once you get your bearings, its a decent ski resort though. Good luck with the first hour though trying to find anything.
Also, great place to catch COVID. They have lots of signs up for COVID precautions, but very little enforcement. The crowding in the cafeteria was bad enough we didn't feel comfortable going inside at all.

Place was dirty (not well maintained), customer service was rude, LOTS of walking!! We had to go to three different places just to get started. We ended up leaving because we didnt want to spend $200 on an afternoon of skiing with customer service that had an issue answering questions then gave wrong information. I suggest Sugar Mountain for a better family experience!

Recently moved south and this resort was better than I expected. Depending on your level of skiing/snowboarding this resort offered something for everyone. I was hesitant to ski here after reading other reviews but my family and I had an awesome experience. Arrived on MLK Day and received weekday pricing even though it was a holiday. The staff on and off the slopes were extremely nice and helpful. Lines were no different than any other resort and I felt they moved rather quickly for a holiday crowd. Very organized system for waiting & getting on/off lifts. I was impressed with the layout of the resort, it's super cute and offers families & friends many options for the day besides skiing/boarding. One thing I recommend about southern skiing is get yourself googles. Being that it's the south, snow making is an ongoing process and googles will make your experience much more fun. I'll definitely come back!

Great snow and well groomed runs. Staff very friendly and my wife's ski instructor was very patient and knowledgeable. Would definitely come back if unable to ski in Europe.

Great brewery. Cool bar at the top of the hill. Decent runs for the region. However, they oversell on weekends and it is absolute chaos. I ve honestly never seen anything like it...

Not pleased with my experience. I travel over 2 hours to get here twice in one week, call in advance and purchased tubing tickets 2 hours prior to our 6:00 session and at 5:45 they close the tubes without notice and didn t even apologize. This has happened 2 times to us in the past week. On top of that the slopes were all slush! We watched someone get stuck coming down on a tube. Not worth $40.

There is not a whole lot of instructions and you have to guess or ask another guest because the staff will not be of much help. Great if you already know how to ski or snowboard and even better if you bring your own gear because you can sometimes wait over an hour to pick up your paid rentals and tickets. Won't be going back next time.

Beech Mountain is one of the most special places I ve had the pleasure of being. Lately l, the weather has been warm, so unfortunately there has been fewer runs open at times. This is not the mountains fault. The employees and the staff always have smiles on their faces and there are always other events happening to keep the entire family entertained. When the weather is cooperating, Beech has incredible terrain for N.C. There are multiple options for food and drink unlike most South East resorts in which everyone is just shoved into one large stinky lodge. I will always recommend Beech Mountain to family and friends.

A nice collection of shops, coffee house, and ski lift station with summit bar. Pretty deserted during our Summer visit except for BMX bikers and those going to the Land of Oz, but well maintained.

Family fun skiing in NC. As all southerners know skiing is limited for those of us that want to ski in the south so no complaints about the terrain and conditions. They do as good of a job as possible and every time we ski here we have a good time, however I do agree with the multitude of reviews that complain about poorly trained/underperforming staff. Many appeared apathetic and uninterested. Smaller ski areas, like this, should ensure that quad lifts don t continually go up with 1-2 people when crowded. I ve seen other resorts do a much better job of queue control which in my book equates to showing your customer respect especially since you have a finite time for the lift ticket. This apathy feels like a administrative shoulder shrug saying it is what it is. Unfortunate perception and situations created by administration that trickles down to front line staff and ultimately the skier choosing to spend their money there. I ll continue to ski there because we do have fun (even with the negatives) and options are limited. I know that, they know that which probably ensures nothing improves.

Took my 16 year old son skiing there with some friends (all newbies). It was a 44 degree day, and the base was pretty decent from some recent snow and plenty of man made. It was the Sunday before Christmas. I thought it would be way more crowded, but everything flowed smoothly. Ticket purchase staff, lift operators, coffee shop personnel.....everyone was friendly. I hadn't skied in about 20 years, but was able to pick it up quickly skiing the easy slopes, and then move up from there. By the end of the day the kids were skiing blue runs, and didn't want to leave. Would love to plan a return trip soon.
