Cons: - Line for snowboard rental was an hour long - Male associate behind Helmet counter treated customers without any respect
Pros: - Female associate behind Helmet counter was friendly and helpful - Male associate (Logan) behind Snowboard counter went above and beyond to help us. He answered all questions respectfully and worked as quickly as possible to get us through the line.

Nice looking resort, If you ever get to experience the reason you're probably here to begin with. No signs where really go for rentals and tickets. Lines do not move like stated in prior reviews. There were 3 windows checking in hundreds of people while 1 person getting you signed up for your boot size in another line. After that, you go wait in yet another line to pay for your board rental which again has 1 person working. Paid for their 5-10 night session, arrived before 5 and got the rental and lift ticket finally taken cared of close to 7 o'clock. Nightmare in the flow of the resort, clearly lacking management. Would pick another resort.
I visited Beech Mtn resort for 80s weekend. The conditions were great! You can really tell they have invested a lot I to snowmaking. The new skybar is awesome-sauce and probably the best view in North Carolina. My burger at the skybar was delicious (this was a pleasant surprise). I went to the best party I have ever been to (SHOT-SKI anyone?!), and the new Beech Mtn brewery makes some awesome beer. This is the best resort in North Carolina hands down. I will be back and I can't wait!
Best ski resort on the east coast!! Took the family for some skiing before Christmas! All my boys (ages 11, 9, and 6) took an hour lesson and was all that was needed for my crazy kids. My wife and I enjoyed ourselves at the bar at the top of the mountain while our kids made lap after lap. All the staff are so helpful! We showed up and they took it from there. All the rentals, from start to finish the staff couldn t have been better! We will be back!!
We arrived in the area to find a mile long backup of cars waiting to enter the parking lot. After the first 25 minutes to progress a half mile, we tried looking at their website and Facebook for updates and tried to call, no answer. No information about capacity. After a total of 45 minutes to get to the entrance, there was one employee there to turn people away. The tickets were sold out two hours prior, maybe some would become available in another two hours. The parking was full anyway.
This could have been avoided if they made the effort to update their online information, answer the phone, or even better, just have an employee go ahead and warn people in the mile long line of cars. Also, if the demand is so much higher than the capacity then please just make reservations a requirement.
As we were leaving, we saw that the backup had gotten even longer, a lot of frustrated people that likely made a long drive to wait in a long line to just be disappointed.
I am not too happy with this place. We arrived at 8:30 am to find out they are out of ski rentals. We have to drive to a shop at the bottom of the hill to get skies. When we returned we spent 30 minutes looking for a parking lot because everywhere is full. Now we are back on the line to purchase the tickets and there is a huge line. It is 11am and by the time I am on the lift it will probably be 12:30. I understand is high season but it would be nice if on the website they mention limited ski rentals. Which is crazy, no ski resort should run out of equipment. We drove 12 hours to get here for two days of sky and it is unfair all the time they are making people waste.
Look people.......when you run a ski resort in the south ( we are lucky they even try to keep a ski resort operational here) please stop complaining about snow blowing! They MUST do this to stay open! Think about it this way..... the people who got blown in the face the day before you skied sacrificed a bit in face too so you'd have snow the day you skied! Or, does the planet stop just because YOU'RE here? C'mon people, there's more to worry about than a little snow in the face! Love this resort! Gods country! I'm from Chapin, SC and like Beech so much better than Sugar! I've seen it snowing like crazy at Beech and not a speck at Sugar!
Love Beech Mountain but am always disappointed that the OZ run is seldom (last season never, if I recall correctly). Just wondering why that is? Thanks
I am very very upset with how this resort is. Don t be fooled by how it looks, the place looks great but looks can be deceiving. We arrived at 1 to do twilight skiing and paid $200 for two tickets. We sat in line at the lift for 30 mins and during the entire 2 hours we were there we only came down the slopes TWICE. (THESE WERE THE BUNNY SLOPES) The ski patrol is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL and told one of the people in our group that she shouldn t be coming down a black diamond because she fell ONCE. Didn t know that you falling means you can not come down a certain slope. It was 4:00 and we were trying to get food, ALL FOOD PLACES were closed!!!! The whole staff was very unprofessional and rude. We left and decided to go to App, they are very professional there!
We bought our tickets online ahead and it was a disaster. We drove 2.5 h one way to go skiing with our little kids for the day. After getting there it took hours to access parking. Despite that we bought a full day ticket we were not able to get to the slopes until almost 02:00 PM. We were hopeful that we finally can enjoy some skiing realizing that the wait on the lifts was so long that we actually didn t ski more than 2-3 times down the hill. Very expensive, extremely frustrating and disappointing for a ski trip.
Stopped by to watch the downhill bikes riding down the runs over the ski slopes. Restaurant and craft beer at the village at the bottom of the slopes. Ride the lift to the top and have a drink at the bar and enjoy the 3 state view. It's open weekends during the summer.
Here is an honest, unbiased review from someone who has gone many years to Beech Mountain. Lift tickets are overpriced, lift lines are overcrowded, and snow depths are over-exaggerated. That being said, you can still have a great day on the mountain by following a few simple tips. Also, be sure to get to the top and enjoy Skybar when you need a break from the slopes.
-If at all possible go on weekdays and avoid holiday weekends at all costs. Some days are so busy you will get less than ten runs in a full day. Night skiing also seems to be less crowded.
-Save on lift ticket costs by going on weekdays or talk to groups around the "group sales" office to try and join their group of 15 or more. You will need to have some cash on hand to pay the group leader because they only accept one form of payment and a single transaction.
-If you need to rent equipment save time and utilize a local rental shop the night before. Most stay open late to accommodate night skiing. You won't have to pay any extra and you won't have to wait in God awful lines for rentals once you get to the mountain.
-The single run with its own lift (Oz run) is often overlooked by many which leaves it uncrowded for much of the day if it is actually open for business.
-Planning on a multi day trip? There are many inexpensive lodging options from a new hostel if going solo to multi bedroom homes with hot tubs if going with a group, so shop around.
Out of sugar mountain and Beech Mountain they are equal. Beech Mountains snow making capabilities are superb. Sugar Mountain has newer and faster lifts. If I had to choose, I would pick Beech. The vibe is a little different and it is less crowded. If you go when it is snowing, you have to have chains or 4 wheel drive. Enjoy!
For the most part this area is the closest in the south east for a skii vacation. That said the trails were not groomed, the base was super thin (not the mountains fault just warm winter). But, what could be controlled and managed was sub par from someone that skiis the West and this area before. The safety was minimum. Very few orange barricades for safety, next to no pads around the snow blowing equipment which for an area that normally gets tons of first timers is important. The trails were super scarred from tons of traffic and falls. Next to no skii patrol when combined with the tons of people bombing the hills and smashing into people was very disturbing. However, the worst was watching the extremely rude behavior of the younger guys doing skii school. Basically anyone on the learner hill (which everyone has to go through to get back to the lots) was barked at and threatened. The kids were being picked up and dropped on the ground basically making it a horrific experience and ruining the experience for the kids and parents. When I saw one 20 something very tall instructor guy treating a guest rude and asked him his name he refused to give his name. All in all I would sum this up as saying I didn't even get a helmet sticker I was so disappointed in this resort.
My family and I visited Beech Mountain Ski Resort this past weekend for a day of fun. Unfortunately we were consumed constantly by stress filled situations instead. Upon our arrival at 8:30am we were so excited to get on the slopes and onto the fun of the day. Little did we know that we would wait in lines, mostly outside in the cold, for 2 hours just get get our lift tickets and equipment. At 10:45 we were finally able to gear up for the slopes. After gearing up we found ourselves surrounded by what seemed like thousands upon thousands of people with no room to move. Every lift line long and people falling all over each other. My wife and family who had no experience on skis had no real opportunity to practice due to the enormous crowds of people. The stress of spending so much money with no real way of getting any use for it got to be too much for some of the family, so they decided to leave. We stuck it out and since our passes were good until only 1pm, we tried to make the best of our last 45 minutes to an hour. My wife helped our 7 year old on the crowded play yard while me and the other boys decided to take a lift to the top.
Long Story shortened: The lifts were great and the more advanced slopes not bad at all.
Not a good place for beginners. The parking lot filled up super quick and overflow were shuttled from a muddy steep sloped parking lot a couple miles away. The bus that was used for shuttling people was in poor repair and barely got us from point A to B. When we finished for the day the overflow parking lot was full of cars sliding and spinning with a few that had crashed into each other because of the steep incline and muddy field like parking.
Too much money made to not be able to accommodate people better with more efficient and effective ways of doing this type of business.
It was also made clear that there would be no refunds....
It would be nice to be reimbursed so that we could take our hard earned money elsewhere.
I grew up going to Beech but it seems that mountain management has really taken a steep decline in the last few years. They don't make snow when they should but they will blow it when it's 32 which makes for extremely icy conditions. I have rarely seen the whole mountain open, most of the time they have half open if you are lucky. The people working there are incredibly rude and prices for skiing have gotten outrageous, although that seems to be more a trend in the southeast as a whole. It's sad because when this place is fully open and staffed properly it actually has some good little runs. Spend the little extra money and go to Snowshoe, or just go to Colorado, where the lift tickets are about the same price.

Yes I am a mechanical engineer, I how psychrometrics works. It would be an extremely rare occasion that 32 degrees has a low enough humidity ratio that the snow would be of high quality. I have skied at multiple other locations in the southeast (Sugar, Winterplace, Snowshoe, Massanutten, Wintergreen) and do not experience the amount of icy conditions I experience at Beech. I also stand by everything else I wrote in the review. I will say that the lodge, restaurants, and mountaintop bar are the best for "nightlife" which is why my friends and I come back. But just for skiing I would go elsewhere.
I am not sure what happened or exactly when it happened but SKI BEECH ROCKS!!!! Went today after long cold week and a lot of work, enjoyed one of the best days in my 20+ years in the area.
Ski Beech has up'd the anti with all slopes open, finely tuned and groomed. Top of the Quad at club 5506' makes the Beech King of the hill in skier Avant et Apres Ski.
Go the extra miles and hit the Beech, leave Sugar for the rest. You will not regret it.
Hats off to Ryan Costin, Jack Costin, Talia Freman, Gill Adams, you guys rock!!
Only 2 bathrooms open in the whole resort. One hour bathroom line. Only one food place open. One and a half hour line. Couldn't buy water at cafeteria, had to scramble with boots and skies 15 minutes to buy a bottle of water. Worst ski resort ever!
If you re from out of town, find another resort!!! The only reason I gave this place 2 stars is because the slopes were pretty nice. HOWEVER EVERYTHING ELSE WAS MISERABLE. They completely overbooked this place even during COVID. We had the day pass from 9 am - 5 pm. We waited in line to get tickets that we had to reserve online and pre-pay for. Then we waited for 2 hours and 42 minutes in line to get our rentals (yes we counted because everyone else in line was miserable). The rental area was a total disaster and not big enough for the amount of people they packed in there. We were then told that the lockers had been flooded so they were closed so we had to trek all of our stuff back to the car. They didn t mention this anyone on their website or at the front. Not one employee had a sense of urgency, customer service or even cared/apologized for the wait. By the time time everything was said and done, we paid $100 a person to go down the slopes 4 times. When 5 pm rolled around we were already in line for our 5th run and we re promptly told that we could not get on the lift even though half of our day was wasted by their inefficient systems. Checking rentals back in was also a disaster and another line with only one person checking items back in at the end of the day.
Also their bathrooms were closed and the lodge had a 30 minute wait to get in.
We tried to speak with customer service but they couldn t care less. Once they have your money, they don t really care since most people are from out of town.
The resort itself is cool, with a great atmosphere. Only complaint was the crowd skiing there. They should take away the rowdy snowboarders lift tickets.
Simply spectacular beautiful special for the family a fabulous experience do not stop going .. I recommend it 100%. Arrive early for your tickets to the attractions of your choice to get parking. And voila ...
The 15 year olds loved it! The first day we tried to get tickets we showed up in the afternoon and they were sold out. Checking the ticket sales started at 8 we show up on day 2 at 745 and we Disney even get close to getting tickets. The line was so long. On day 3 I showed up at 630 and was the third person in line and purchased tickets! No military discount on tubing. (Sad face) it is segmented into an hour and 45 min time blocks and they lower the number of people participating to 50. It did crack me up they kept asking people to move in right to hear the block of instructions but then told everyone they must have a mask and wear it AND social distance while sledding. well worth the $30!
Will not be returning. Was there on Saturday, February 6 and it was a disaster. Too many people and lines were horrendous. One line was 1/4 of the way up the run (Oz Run). I heard one staff member say they were short staffed that day. Social distancing (LOL). It was the saddest experience I've ever had skiing. Never again.
What a beautiful Ski Resort! I am extremely impressed with the facilities and the snow conditions. I grew up skiing at the Epic and perfect powder conditions in the Sierra Nevadas in California. I was very spoiled out west with long amazing runs and many world-class ski resorts. I was hesitant to try snowboarding here in the deep south of our wonderful country. I went to a local ski shop and snowboard shop here in Boone North Carolina and they highly recommended Beech Mountain. The owner of the shop is named JP and he hooked me up with a great setup and I immediately ventured out to Beech Mountain early yesterday morning. I had not been on a snowboard in 25 years! I was rather hesitant and especially since I have read that the snow conditions are far from perfect here in North Carolina. So I started off on the easiest possible slope and I told the staff that was Manning the Magic Carpet that I had not been on the snowboarding 25 years and he was extremely friendly and happy to support me. He was very positive and optimistic and encouraging! After a couple of quick runs on the mini slope I felt comfortable and confident enough to go to the next slope. I told the staff Manning the left at the bottom of the hill and up at the top that I had not been on the snowboarding 25 years and once again they were extremely encouraging and positive and uplifting! The friendly staff truly encourage me and in me feel at home. I guess this is what you call Southern Hospitality? It sure felt like it! After a couple of very fun and enjoyable well groomed runs on this gentleslope I hit the fast quad lift and unbelievably again the staff was extremely encouraging and positive and uplifting. Yes indeed southern hospitality! When I got to the top I could not believe the 360-degree panoramic views from the peak of Beech Mountain at just over 5500 feet above sea level. I felt like I was back home in my stomping grounds in California but even better here because the crowds were minimal! Oh and did I mention the price? It was extremely affordable to purchase my ticket. I am a United States Marine Corps veteran and they even hooked me up with a military discount! Much appreciated guys. I met some very friendly people on the lift and unbelievably I even met one of the ski patrol guys named Russ who grew up in the exact same location where I grew up in Oceanside California which is in San Diego County. Truly amazing small world. Up at the top of the mountain you have these amazingly beautiful views that make you feel like you're on top of the world. The day could not have been better. Blue Skies amazingly brilliant and bright bright sunshine and an awesome temperature. Furthermore on top of the mountain you have a bar and you have heated restrooms with running water. Pretty amazing to have these amenities at the top of the mountain. They even offer free water which is awesome because you need to stay well hydrated. I was super stoked to have water that was actually free. They have some really neat snowboard and ski racks we can actually lock up your gear. Not sure you really need to I feel like things were pretty chill and very safe but nice to have this anyways. I'm sure it's much more crowded during the holidays and on the weekends. The parking is free and very close to where you pay for your tickets.
Normally LOVE skiing Beech Mtn but Mon. Feb.15 saw TONS of LITTER ALL over the mountain! It was disgusting empty water bottles even frozen into the snow getting off lifts or going down runs. Also half the facilities were closed & line to get lunch (in the one/only option) was wrapped around the building.
The next day we went skiid Sugar Mountain which was pristine/clean, everything open short lunch lines and no issues whatsoever.
Absolutely loved it!! First time visiting Beech Mtn this past weekend with a group of 7 of us. The kids and adults alike had a blast tubing! It was such a wonderful get away from all that is going on in the world! It was the perfect escape! The staff was wonderful, friendly and courteous! Had no problem waiting in line to buy tickets both Friday and Saturday as we were well aware it was a "first come first serve" by reading the information posted on the website!! Early Bird gets the Worm! Well worth it! Will absolutely be back! My son definitely wants to try snowboarding and we will be more prepared to set it up for our next visit! Keep up the good work and thank you for all you are doing during these rough times! I am so grateful you are operating and allowing people to enjoy themselves!! P.S. Get that ice skating rink open!!
Best place to ski and snowboard in the Southeast. Staff are always very friendly and the management do their best to keep the slopes in good condition. Picture of first tracks today- great conditions!
Pros - decent enough snow to enjoy most of the trails even though some of it was frozen or dirt was starting to appear. Good choice of lifts. Nice variety of trails. Cost of rentals are good.
Cons - Way too busy. Wait time in line to buy lift passes was 30 mins. Then a 90 minute wait to collect ski rentals. Parts of the trails were overcrowded to the point it was dangerous. People would just stop and sit in the middle of the slope. Didn t see any ski patrol until the late afternoon time guiding/advising people. Wait time in the late afternoon was ridiculous. Lines going into the ski slope so people skiing couldn t complete the full trail. Went to the tap house, was told it was a two hour wait to get food.
Set a max number of people on the slope and everyone will enjoy themselves. The overcrowding of people has made me reconsider if I ll visit this resort in the future.
We were reluctant to visit Beech Mountain due to some reviews but we went ahead and decided to see for ourselves. The kids (8 and 12) really wanted to snow tube and ice skate and Beech has both, so we gave it a try. First want to say the staff is GREAT! Everyone was welcoming, helpful, and very nice. There was one employee lady that was a little rude at the tubing area but it wasn t because she was just nasty, she was trying to keep tubers safe from getting hurt. Some parents didn t like her tone, but we understood why she had to be assertive. We tubed until our hearts couldn t tube any longer! So much fun. Then grabbed a bite at the little grill (chicken quesadillas are a must!). We topped the day with some ice skating. Beech exceeded our expectations and we will be back to try out some skiing. I gave it 4 stars because administration office to get tubing tickets was closed and we were led all over the resort by staff to find tubing tickets. To then be told, go back to administration and just wait till someone opens it. That was a little frustrating at first, but not something that could ruin a trip.
The slopes are fine, but the management is awful. I m all about the ski bum vibe, but rarely have I seen such a large collective group of employees drag their feet when they walk. After a 90 wait to get outfitted with rentals, a member of my ski party ended up with bindings that weren t even adjusted for his boots.
Hoping to have multiple runs? Think again, they close half the lifts at 4pm. I recognize the cost savings of this, but when lines for other lifts exceed 300 people, it s time to open more lifts as a pressure relief.
This place could be a NC gem if management stepped up and improved efficiencies.
We went to buy tubing tickets and all the signs said sold out at 8:00am. We called and spoke to the manager, Morgan, whom was very rude and not helpfu. She reassured us that the tickets were not sold out however the signs are still out. So we get back in line to be told all tickets are sold out at 8:30. We recalled to speak to the manager who didn't care that we had been in line since 7:50am and all tickets are sold out! This is the most unorganized business we have ever dealt with and will not return!!!!
12/29th...Parking full at 9:15 in the morning...40 min waiting for a lift (being precise one lift ticket is 70$/5lifts/day over, u need rentals too? 3hrs line) ...overbooked, super crowded...forever bye!
GO TO WINTERPLACE instead, They have twice the trails and MUCH better quality. Beech is a waste of time and money. The areas to park, buy lift tickets, rent equipment, and storage lockers are very unorganized. They had no trail maps and we had to wing it. Once you are ready to hit the slopes there are few chairlift options other than the top of the mtn. The trails themselves seem very rough/bumpy and poorly taken care of , and there are not many options. There were also several glass liquor bottles laying on the trails, which seems like a safety issue. But I guess you need to be drunk to enjoy Beech Mtn , So be an adult and bring a flask. I feel like I should ask for a half refund, but the learning experience was invaluable.
I'm an intermediate level skier and I've never had a problem at Winterplace. Perhaps the management of Beech mtn should buy a ticket and spend a day at Winterplace to see how a ski resort should operate.
I prefer to encourage business owners with good reviews that can help strengthen; however, I read past reviews from several months ago that confirms my thoughts that management at Beech Mountain have no intention of remedying any concerns. My family was there three days ago, and everything went downhill fast. This wasn t our first time skiing, but was our first time here. Everyone lined up to be fitted for skis with adequate distance, but the employees kept directing people inside without waiting for the area to clear. For over an hour, everyone stood less than 12 inches apart waiting for one of the 3 workers to size skis. There were over fifty people squeezed in to a small amount of space, and they continued to call people inside a COVID playground. NO COVID regulations followed, placing everyone at risk during the holidays. Considering my husband and I have suffered through the illness, and I thought North Carolina had enforced regulations, we take it seriously. Other than futile mask wearing, there was no social distancing as employees crammed us inside. After the wait, my husband had to re-enter the fumigation because the employee mis-sized his skis. On the slopes the bunny slope abruptly stops at a fence lined with skis that my youngest had no choice but to ram into. Walkways were iced over and not maintained. Some people lied down and stretched out in the center of the ski slope, giving less room to ski. No patrol or supervision seen anywhere. This post is for those considering the resort, not necessarily for (the lack of) management. I have no interest in their copy and paste regret statement.
Even thought the weather was warm while we were there there was still a good base of man made snow. We had a great time skiing, they have a large tubing area, and outdoor ice rink.
I planned our trip for a Friday hoping to miss out on the crowds. But the day ended up being sold out anyway and it was PACKED. We made sure to get there at 8am and were able to park easily, spend a reasonable amount of time getting rentals, get a good locker, and get in on a 9:30am lesson. The lift lines were long about 75% of the time, but not too awful. The worst part was that there were people everywhere. Standing around and sitting in the snow in highly trafficked areas. For someone like me who lives too far away to do this very often, so is always an "almost beginner" with questionable dodging and maneuvering skills, I don't think I'd go back on their busy days. But I'm giving 4 stars because the staff was sufficiently numerous and friendly and the hills were fun. Next time I will plan for a day b/t Monday and Thursday.
I purchased lift tickets in advance, arrived to the resort around 10 AM only to spend 60 minutes in traffic to get to the entrance and find out that they had no parking. The website claims to be doing all of the correct things regarding COVID, but to overselling the resort to the point where you run out of parking is insane. You need to start selling parking spaces if those is an issue, allow people to drop off at the base, communicate with the customers something. We drove from Greensboro to Beech only to get turned around but a less than polite parking attendant that had no ability to had a stressful situation and no idea what to tell someone when they are getting refused a service they have already paid for.
I have been to Beech several times and never had a negative experience, but this has soured me for a long time. I would understand if I had not purchased tickets in advance. I would have understood if they had a plan b at the entrance. I would have understood if the existing signage leading to the resort was accurate. But none of those things happened and there was an epic failure of management that I have not see in a long time.
The best slopes in the area. The bar at the top with near 360 views is breathtaking. Both bartenders were fast and efficient. Different slopes for all types of skiing. We visited on a Saturday and there was a crowd. Will definitely visit during the week next time. I would rate 5 stars but the lifts were shut down for 45 minutes. The definition of a buzzkill. I tried to reach the ticket booth for answers or maybe some compensation for a future visit. Only one window was open!
Not a bad place to board, but definitely prefer Sugar. This place has much smaller runs and feels a lot smaller overall.
EDIT: Appreciate the response from the owner. I didn't get to see the upgraded slope or terrain park. We'll be back next season to check it out --thanks for the update.
Don t waste your time and money skiing in North Carolina. Drive the few extra hours to go to winter place, West Virginia. Parking is horrific, the lines are crazy long for rentals, the lift line is 20 minutes+ just standing out in the cold waiting to go down the mountain. We paid for a full day of skiing and waited in so many lines that we only went down the mountain 3 TIMES in the whole day!! Also this is a terrible place for beginners to learn, if you go here for your first time skiing it will probably be your last because you ll have such a bad experience. The hills are too steep for someone new to really learn on, and the snow isn t great, it s wet and hard to learn on.
It s a real shame - I feel these are the best runs in NC. However, the execution is horrible. Getting from there over flow lots on a Saturday took almost 2 hours. That s standing outside in the windy and cold for two hours. Once on the mountain we got to wait an additional hour for skis and lift tickets. Finally we got to wait an additional 30 minutes at each unorganized lift line. The lines were going uphill with people sliding trying to wait in line. Complete and total cluster. Got 3 runs in in 2 hours. If I wanted to wait in line all day I would have just gone to the dmv - at least I can wait inside.
Nice long runs. Even green are long. Good food and not a bad price. After using my navigation for 3 hours my phone was almost dead and they had a free charging port for all kinds of phones Easy to get on and off the lift. Not bad slope prices. I'm sure we will go back.
Way too crowded. Lift lines were ridiculous! Lots of out right drinking in lift lines and smoking weed, beer cans littering the slopes. Was not enjoyable. No enforcement at all. Sad
First time in snow and we had a blast!! The staff was very accommodating and informative. Great family fun while also providing options for adults. Awesome beer and food. Small town feel with professionalism!
It feels a little dated. Also, if you have never skied or snowboarded before, check the times for their school before going. It is not much fun to get there and not know what you are doing, and not have anyone give you pointers.
Good place to ski, tube, and snowboard. Stores are nice and the prices are reasonable. Food selection is limited and the line in the lodge moves slowly. Great place to bring groups for an all day event.
My husband and I along with our 2 sons have been going almost every Sunday 1-5 pm for the last 8 weeks. We have had a wonderful experience. We got our 6 year old and instructor 3 times and were so satisfied with his progress. We loved the instructors ( Adam, Benji and Caleb ) They were so patient and taught him so much. Absolutely great attitudes and very good with our son. He is going off the balck diamonds and going through the terrain park now on his snowboard. The last time we got an instructor for him it was to teach him tricks. He learned a lot that hour. We love the park and have had an almost perfect experience with the exception of my oldest son's brand new snowboard getting stole outside the restaurant. No security camera's in that area. That is something that really needs to be Addressed...
I rode Beech mountain many times during this last downhill mountain bike season. Even did a few of the races. While there are currently only 5 or 6 trails here (in talks of adding more) all the trails here are prime. Ranging from super beginner to Pro difficulty. If you're an advanced rider, go and shred Black Bear, if you're a beginner, sail down Green Mamba. Either way, super fun time. Views are amazing too.
We came for skiing. They had all the lifts open. Aside from overpriced food, but you get there anywhere else too, we had a blast. The kids working at the rental pick up we're quick and swift.
Even though all the lifts and trails weren't open when we went the weekend after Christmas, our family still had a great time! I would like to make special mention about Billy in the Groups Sales office. He is VERY helpful and really understands the meaning of customer service. All the employees were very nice and professional and made our days very easy.
1/2/2021 - 11:00 AM - Just tried to get to the ski resort. Waited in traffic for over 30 minutes just to go .2 miles to be told all parking lots are full and to just drop everyone off with gear and walk up the mountain. Then the driver has to find a place to park. WTH!!!!! Clearly, you OVERSOLD tickets!!! Also, there is a busted main water line, which means no bathrooms, only nasty portable toilets. I can't even imagine what the wait time is at the lifts. Glad we went in the rain last night, otherwise, $1400 worth of lift tickets for 5 were a waste of money!!!!
We'll be up bright and early tomorrow morning to ensure that we can park and ski!
You need to do better Beech Mountain Ski Resort!!!!!
I had only been to Beech during the winter season. I was extremely impressed to see all the activities that were offered for the off season. We got on the lift to check out the beautiful views and have a couple of drinks at the bar. We played frisbee golf on the way down to enjoy a nature walk. Truly, Beech Mountain Ski Resort is a year round resort.
Waited in line for 45 min for lift tickets. Waited 2 hours in line for skis and boots. Listened to staff scream at people to pull their masks over their noses while 1/2 of that same staff didn t have their mask on right. Employees in the ski/boot area were rude, and the set up was a huge cluster. And there was entirely too many people.
Nice facilities, nice options, a variety of slopes. The staff however could be much better at giving the correct skis to people. I was a beginner and notified the person giving me my skis, yet I still received speed skis instead of control skis. This ruined my time at the resort.
Took our two teenage boys to try skiing for the first time. Stood in line for ski school sign up. I was told to rent equipment first. Stood in line to rent equipment. I was told to stand in line again to pay for rental equipment first. Paid for equipment and was told I must also purchase lift tickets, even though we knew they would not be used as my boys have NEVER tried skiing and were there only for lessons. Total rip off. Stood in line AGAIN to get equipment. Staff wasn t very helpful, seemed to not want to be there. Didn t give us helmets or poles. Had to go back and get those. Finally went to sign up for ski school and was told it was sold out. This is where my head exploded. Raised a lot of hell and they put my boys in the next class. Chaotic experience, unhelpful staff, had to purchase lift tickets that they knew would go unused. There are other places to go skiing in the area. Do yourself a favor and go there instead. I will not go back.
VERY VERY RUDE Sugar mountain is better and friendlier for the 15-20 extra bucks
Staff at ski/snowboard part was very rude. Staff member at one time told a customer in front of me, "I don't care about your F**ing opinion"
We were told all the lifts were open, but only ONE actually went to the top of the mountain so it was a 20min wait each time to get up. The other 2 went to the green and half way up the mountain.
Long story short Beech is solely open based of the location NOT because of the staff or even for what they offer for that matter. SUGAR MOUNTAIN is close by and it is a way better place for people of all ages
After reading the horrible reviews, my expectations for our trip were really low. However, our experience Wednesday, January 6th was everything we had originally hoped it to be. We went not on a weekend and especially not over a holiday weekend, I think that was key. There was never a line for lift tickets or rentals or the lifts, but we made it a point to get there early just to avoid any issues (from other reviews). Bathrooms were clean and functioning. My five year old enjoyed the TRAXX program, but I think restricting it to fewer kids (there were 6 in the program) would be better with just one instructor. And I know this has been mentioned before but the snow making was the biggest complaint from others on the slopes. Makes visibility very difficult. It d be great if there were breaks from the snowmaking so it s not a constant annoyance. Our family enjoyed our experience and look forward to making this an annual trip in the future.
me and my girlfriend went this past wkend had a great time. prices are reasonable and everyone was friendly. I have been to beech a few times and it was awesome everytime!!! Great place to ski or board...
We limit how many people can come yeah ok I spent $77 to stand in line all day. 35+ mins to even get to the lift and then takes 2 mins to come down the mountain. None of the slopes are harder than a green circle. There are way too many people here. The slopes are boring. Never coming back. Already resold my lift tickets for tomorrow to someone else bc they wouldn t refund me. Don t come here unless you enjoy paying money to stand in a long line all day.
Dave's Pro tip, reserve your equipment in advance. We purchased everything online for Saturday Feb 8th. We came in and checked into our AirBnb on Friday the 7th. We proceeded to head to the mountain (before 5) and went through the process of getting our lift tickets and equipment. You can pick these items up 24 hours in advance. If you wait to pick up on Saturday morning you will have a line of about 30 to 50 people roughly waiting to get boots skis snowboards etc. Having the ability to pick things up ahead of time was a huge time saver. David from Brazil was very patient finding me boots that worked for me.
On Saturday my friend and I purchased a private lesson for just under $100 for the two of us. A very professional and patient gentleman named Roland was very helpful kind and showed us what to do. Even helped put my boots on the right tightness as I don't bend over very well. I recommend you asking for this man if you get a private lesson as he has been skiing for a very long time and he is very very patient.
I love the fact that their main restaurant is also Beech Mountain Brewery. I had the Sinatra stout and the chairlift coffee blonde on tap. Both beers were incredible. The food was good too. Unfortunately there was one bartender and hundreds of people trying to get into the tap room so she needed to work quadruple time to get everyone helped. The line was very long not her fault at all just too many people here this past weekend. We we're lucky we hit up the Beech MTN Brewery Restaurant and Taproom at 11:30am, because anyone else coming in after that waited 1.5 hours to be seated to eat. It's a large place, but the crowds were just too much.
The brewery itself is next door just making and serving beer. Different beers were on tap as well.
For dinner just down the street was a place called Rascals We definitely recommend it and it's not far from the slopes If it's too busy at the actual resort mountain.
We stayed at the holiday beach mountain condos right next door through Airbnb. If you're okay with a little walk you don't have to park at the mountain you literally can walk through the parking lot and into the resort.
Beech Mountain is a fantastic resort for anyone! The mountain is the perfect size. The blacks are challenging, thrilling and fun, and the blues are just as fun! This mountain is a great size for teaching anyone of any skill level how to ski or board. The resort also includes fabulous cabins right off the runs, excellent ski shops, a cafe for a mid day lunch or dinner, and even a brewery! Don't miss an opportunity to visit the best ski resort in North Carolina!
Very bad mountain as far as ownership. I feel like the owner Ryan just had the mountain handed to him by daddy and doesn't know how to run a business. I has a season pass here for 2 years but switched to sugar for the bad customer service on the higher up parties. Maybe Ryan (the owner) will learn and they can improve on things they need to such as customer service and caring about the customer. Mountain is decent but sugar has a great staff and mountain so Beech has an L in my book
This was our 2nd time at Beech with our 6 year old grandchild. A couple of key lifts were not operating and this was on a Sunday. The large quad lift line was really backed up because they shut the lines down to allow only racers on the lift. After about 30 minutes a member of ski patrol finally stepped in and told them to let the other paying customers on the lift. As we finally got to the front of the line it happened again. We spent $169 and was only able to use the large lift once all day because the regular line just was not moving.
With no one patrolling the green zone around the base of the hills racers are allowed to ski full speed through the crowd. I would not recommend for families to come to Beech unless they are on a racing team. Very disappointing day.
Great place to go skiing or snowboarding, I wouldn t suggest it if your really a beginner and want to start slow. They don t have a lot of smaller hills just bigger ones that are great for tricks and stuff for more experienced people.
I ve been boarding at Beech for the past 16+ years and think it s about time I showed some love bc this mountain has always been my sanctuary. I ve seen some really BS reviews from people that are just straight up not true or completely ridiculous. So let me tell you why I love this mountain and it s staff! The improvements they ve done to the mountain over these last few years are really something amazing! The view from the Skybar is one of the best views in NC and even better when you get to sit with a drink in hand. Still blows my mind they brew their own beer now too! I know a lot of people complain about how much snow there is/conditions, but folks.... it s the South. Mother Nature does it s own thing. If the snow crew can make snow they do at every chance they get!! But it s a risk you take when planning a trip ANYWHERE that it might not be ideal. When you can catch it on a great day though, Ive been in snow THIGH deep there! Not kidding. Super Storm Sandy roared through and dropped that much snow years ago. They just got 2 FEET of fresh just last month which is mind boggling. And when it comes to the staff, they work really hard to keep improving guest experiences. Skiing anywhere nowadays is expensive but their pricing is very fair compared to other local mountains. And if you haven t been to 80 s Weekend, you HAVE to go!! It s ridiculously fun with everyone dressed up and all you see is a slope full of neon colors! The bands are always really good so worth going just for the lodge party! I wish I could post pics on here to show you how great this mountain is compared to others in the area, my tree run pics are pretty epic..... So really, theres always hiccups in the snow season with weather and such but I promise you ll get way more value for the price with a much better atmosphere at Beech than anywhere else! It s the only mountain I ll go to anymore and I ve been to every single one of them.
We rode here for the first time yesterday and it was a lot of fun. The snow was good and the lifts moved pretty quickly. Lines not an issue since it was a weekday and the price is on point.
It was horrible. People who work there are so rude. Also never on e did we see them cleaning table in the lodge/ cafeteria. Never wiped poles or skis returned. Totally not following covid 19 procedures. Have the employees had their mask on .
Not sure why people are such crybabies but I had a good time not all the sloped were open at the time because it hadn't snowed yet, had fun the lifts are nice they slow down for you. All around a nice place.
