With my sisters being SATC fans, Buddakan was a place we just had to go to. The atmosphere in their is really nice and great place for groups as well as a romantic dinner. Their dim sum sized portions are really tasty. I loved the beef lettuce cups, spicy tuna and spring rolls! The Tranquility cocktail is to die for but ask the waiter if you are not sure.

The environment is clean and tidy, the food is also very delicious, that is, eating a meal makes the kind of feeling in the cinema very dark, visibility is very low, not suitable for guests to eat party, suitable for dating couples
This is one of my favorite restaurants in the world! The food is stunning and there are fair choices for vegetarians and vegans. But think they can still add more options for vegetarians and vegans. My spouse and I often go there for a beautiful, romantic dinner. Their drinks and desserts are delicious too! But we always have to wait for at least 15 minutes despite having a reservation. The restaurant should do a better job in making the table available on time! Overall, it's a great restaurant and we would definitely go back!
This place is an easy 5 star and well worth the prices you ll pay. The drinks and cocktails are en pointe and the wine list is extensive so there s something for everyone. It s hard to go astray with the food menu here. The one recommendation i must insist upon is to get those dang edamame dumplings. I could eat those forever. For four people you re going to want to get two servings of those. Trust me.
Lovely asian cuisine! My favorite was the chili rock shrimp! It was delicious! The restaraunt itself is beautiful too! All in all a beautiful dining experience! Highly recommended!
This is a stunning, sexy restaurant in the Chelsea neighborhood. It was dimly light, the decor was dark and dramatic, the music was amazing and went along with the ambience perfectly. The cocktails were creative and delicious, they offer a wonderful list of wines and champagne, and we were happy to see they offered mocktails as well. The food is family style and amazing; incredible combinations of flavor and surprise. The service was outstanding. Dinner at Buddakan was a treat and I highly recommend it!
The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and cavernous. And the service was impeccable. The room we were in, the Library, was a little dark and the overall size of the restaurant can sometimes swallow the conversation. But other than that, the entire experience was amazing. All of the food was delicious, and the presentation was artistically and thematically perfection. (Some highlights: the shrimp toast, the carrot dumplings that looked like plump little carrots, and the lamb. Im not usually a big fan of lamb, but the touch if ginger made for the object balance! ) I also enjoyed the signature cocktails; nothing too overpowering, but instead, complementary to the entire dining experience.
I was pleasantly surprised. Made a reservation for 8:15 pm and was seated within 5 minutes. The waitress was very informative about the menu options. Food is served family-style so I had a chance to try multiple dishes. To drink, I had the Royal cocktail (I'm an Austinite who loves his Tito's vodka). To start, we had the Edamame Dumplings - they tasted like potato pierogies - and I was expecting a crunch but was surprised with the smooth, palatable interior texture. The Charred Filet was my favorite - it packed a lot of flavor. The Wild Mushroom noodles were delicious, as were the Wok Charred Broccoli. For dessert, I had the Spiced Carrot Cake - OMG! Perfect size and the perfect end to a great meal! Thanks for a great experience, Buddakan!
One of my favorite places in NYC. The ox tail dumplings and Dungeness crab sticky rice is top notch, highly recommend going here when you are in town. Service is also really good
Edamame Truffle Dumplings starter are a must! Fantastic. Great food and service. Little bit hard to hear, very noisy. And, quite dark, bring flashlight to see menu.
Wow, just wow. When you step in, the first impression is 'wow' at the decor, and when you leave you leave with a 'wow' at the food (and possibly the bill, although it's definitely worth it). As a party of 8 we had the Tasting Menu 1, which was expertly cooked and brought out on individually-portioned serving plates. The scallops were a standout, as was the short rib on noodles. Service was somewhat slow and the place is dark, being mostly underground, but absolutely I'll be back!
Upscale elevated food and a trendy crowd. Pricy but worth it, my group went with the tasting menu (which they allowed us to make a few substitutions on) and had a great time for a birthday party!
Outragiously expensive. Had the Chefs tasting menu cost was $250... But every dish that came out which was something like 12 courses was absolutely amazing. They ask you if you have any preferences or if there's something that you would like to avoid or if you are a vegetarian or something that you would prefer.... Then 1 by 1 the dishes come out, The even surprise me with a special drink.. Absolutely fantastic experience and everybody should do it At least once in their life.
Waiters were extremely courteous and where no one had to change the table, They were accommodating. Atmosphere was phenomenal
Every time I am in NYC i try to go here for dinner. The service is always on point and you are served/seated very quickly. I especially like the cod and edamame dumplings here. TIP: Ask to sit downstairs, great place to start your night off :)
Love this place. Had a party of 14 - sat at the long main dining table... The food was amazing - the service absolutely perfect. Had a wonderful birthday celebration - they made you feel special and tended to your every need. Would highly recommend.
We came to NYC for my brother-in-law's birthday and this was our one big dinner for him. If you are willing to spend a lot on dinner and you love Asian food, you won't be disappointed.
I recommend wearing something nice. I was in khakis and a button up with no tie and I felt just a little under dressed. This is a nice place. When you first walk into the dark entrance you'll see the host stand with a coat check just behind it. Then there's a lounge area with a fully stocked bar for pre-dinner drinks while you wait(and there will be a wait)! Like I said ... This is a nice place.
The service was great... almost too great. The hostess was leading us to our table in a very proper, almost robotic fashion. At one point she slowed down at a doorway to her left and looked like she was going to turn for not more than a half a second and then realized she needed to keep going strait. She turned to me, did a quick half-bow gesture and said "My apologies." without making eye contact. I still think she may have been a robot. If she was, in fact, a robot then kudos to Buddakan for a very life-like hostess robot!
They do a family style dining. This was new to all four of us but if I understand it correctly, this is how it goes:
Appetizer Order one per two people
Rice Order one per two people
Main dish Order one per each person
Dessert One per two people
Even though each person orders a main dish, everyone shares it. They will put an empty plate in front of each person and then they present the first person's main dish. Once everyone shares that dish and it's finished, they'll present the second dish and so on.
I mention this because we didn't fully understand this and ended up getting two of the same main dish.
The food was pretty spectacular! One of our dishes was the filet and it was perfectly cooked and had that melt-in-your-mouth quality that all good filets have. The black dragon chicken was very flavorful and very juicy.
If you have a special occasion and don't mind throwing down a couple hundred dollars (our total bill for 4 people was in the $300 range) then you should definitely try this!
Everything here was fabulous. We ordered appetizers expecting them to be small and that we might need an inexpensive top-up in Chelsea Markets after. We were SO impressed with our dishes, and only just managed to finish them, and almost skipped dessert. But we had to try one, and the passionfruit souffle was superb! We'll be back before leaving NYC Tuesday :)
Outstanding experience. I had a pre fixe meal with a large group. Staff was phenomenal and eager to explain the food. Very fancy, but didn t feel pretentious. Very fun night!!
Chose this restaurant because recommended by a friend, we decide to book at 21:00, on our arrival we communicate with the reception and tell us to wait at the bar, noisy environment with lots of DJ sets, after about 15 minutes of waiting I ask the waiter and tells us that the table was not yet ready. Finally after about 30 minutes make us sit down in one of the rooms, very nice, a bit 'too much in the dark. Fusion menu and very nice, service a bit cold, we ask for some advice and we indicated the app delivero to see the photos of the dishes ... we decide to take 3 bring, everything arrives almost immediately, generous portions and well presented dishes , sweet delicious. In conclusion it is a good restaurant sin the wait and loud music that you could not even speak. Okay prices average New Yorker ... but given the environment we all are.
Amazing place! My wife took me here for a belated birthday dinner before a concert. I was blown away by the foods. The menu has many selections and at times can read somewhat plain, but the flavor is fantastic! I can't wait to go back again. Great drinks too!
My go to place. Amazing food, amazing decor, amazing service, amazing music, amazing vibe. Not everything is a 10 individually, but it all comes together seamlessly. My only complaint would be, crowded bar area and usually a wait even with reservation. But even that is fun here.
As for food, Peking duck is awesome, mushroom chow fun is excellent, filet mignon is great, with the sauce it's even better! You really can't go wrong with any dish.
My waitress was extremely experienced and thoughtful. She customized our menu based on our dietary needs and preferences. Thanks much for the pampering!!
This place is really quite amazing. The lavish decor gives you a feeling of opulence, as if you're being catered to like an Asian prince or princess. It is understandably a popular venue, a "place to be seen". Considering how busy the place gets, the kitchen isn't too slow and food comes out family style and as it is ready. The food is simply amazing, some Asian fusion items and others a direct nod to Chinese cuisine. My recent visit had special items for Chinese New Year, which was pretty cool to see! They have a full-service bar that makes incredible and unique drinks with simple names like Clarity and Fever. How zen of them. :) It is on the pricey end of the spectrum, but you do get what you pay for. You don't walk away disappointed with the experience, the service and the food.
Buddakan gets my wholehearted and unreserved recommendation.
They have a large room with chandeliers and a number of more cozy dining areas. We chose a cozy space, the service was great. My wife liked the jade cocktail, I tried the Pinot noir which was good.
This restaurant chain started in Philadelphia, and has grown to have locations on the east coast and beyond.
Very classy and elegant. Has become one of my top two restaurants ever. I plan to go back. They amazed me by how fast the service was and how quick we were seated. Easy making reservations.
Once again we had a perfect evening at Buddakan. The food is incredibly delicious, the service is outstanding. Buddakan is one of the best restaurants in NYC. Thank you very much and see you soon.
Beautiful building. Almost a hidden entrance if you're not paying attention. Huge once inside. Low lighting which I could have used a bit more light. We ordered the Dim Sum tower for two. This was different kinds of appetizers and was ok. We also ordered the Lobster rice, jumbo shrimp and peppers beef. All three were amazing. Peppered beef was cooked just right, medium well and tender. I'm glad we choose this place because it was perfect for us.
2 stars for this place since it will ruin your mood at the very beginning by making you wait for atleast 45mins for a table of 2 even though you book a table 1 week in advance. 1 star for ambience and 1 for certain select good food dishes. Our server was great but she had toooo many tables to manage at the same time so cannot blame her for anything. You will see they have atleast 50staff members but still everything has too much wait time.. from getting the table to ordering something additional for ur table and even the restrooms. Just go with a touristy mindset to click pictures and you will enjoy this place. Don t expect anything else.
We had the most amazing time, at Buddakan tonight. From the waiters, to the ambiance, to the food, to the drinks....alcoholic, and non alcoholic, nothing was disappointing. It was my, and my sister's first time. My niece has been here with her husband more than once. It's not cheap, but sometimes you really do get what you pay for. If you decide to splurge just once a year on some excellent food and service, put Buddakan on your list.
Great vibes. Large, beautiful restaurant. I ordered Lobster Spring Rolls (which were much bigger than I thought they'd be for an appetizers) and the Wok Noodles with Prawns. Both were delicious . The Blush was a yummy non-alcoholic drink and I appreciated seeing non-alcoholic options on the menu.
The lighting was a little too low, making it hard to see. And the music was eclectic but not in a good way. Changes randomly too often to allow it to fall into the back of your mind as background music. I kept paying attention to it when it got "weird". Service was pleasant. Overall, I would return. :)
Great food and service. We went as a party of three with a reservation (def. required) during the week. The service was excellent and the food was outstanding. Apparently there is no real dress code (casual and above).
Excellent food and service. The servers are very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and the drinks. Highly recommended with a group, that way you can try many different things and they were all so very delicious. The drinks were also fabulous and pairings were on point. At the end of the meal leave room for dessert as it is totally worth it.
Great scene and excellent and inventive dishes make for a great evening. We were seated at the main dining table in the huge lower level dinging room. It is quite a spectacle to behold. The service was surprisingly down to earth with great wine recommendations and courteous service. It was a great experince.
Great ambiance and really creative fusion of modern Asian cuisine. Air conditioning runs on max at all times, so have a jacket or a sweatshirt. Drinks are pricey. Expect to spend $100+ when two are dining.
Ambiance is great, waiters on point, if only the food was as great. It's pretty loud. People seem to be super excited to be here. Food is mediocre. If you're coming here to experience a restaurant that looks good, and experience NYC, go for it. As for me, I expect great food l, but that didn't happen. Definitely not getting your money's worth. Restaurant full of pretentious people.
The fact that this place still exists and is always busy is a testament to how great it is. Not many restaurants in nyc can say that. Its beautiful inside and service is top notch. The food is also delicious and for "fancy Asian", it tops all of its competitors like Tao, Hakkasan etc. I find their prices extremely reasonable and when you add in the great service, decor and high quality food, its a no brainer. The tuna tartare spring roll is absolutely amazing. The edamame dumplings are unique and tasty. The black cod here is great and melts like butter. The chow fun and sausage friend rice are amazing side dishes and well seasoned. Portion sizes are also nice. Finally, cocktail drinks are a hit too.
Buddakan is one of my fave places. The food and atmosphere is fantastic, I've never been disappointed. I would note down a list of what's good but would damn near be the whole menu.
What amazing place. Food was incredible really liked up to its reputation and offered something for everyone. Quite a swanky feel to it so get dressed to the hill. Would love the opportunity to return again
Delicious steak combined with a sauce that merited the steak pairing - usually I just want the meat, but this was really good 'infusion'. Also, enjoyed the Bo Bo plate that had a range of appetizers.
The service was a bit slow. Since I went by myself, I couldn't tell if that wait time would have been reasonably filled with talk, but the steak took a long time to come out.
literally everything we ate here was amazing. There was four in my group and we ordered about 6 different dishes (family style). Even though it's expensive - the price is just right for what you get (i would even say it's cheap for how delicious it is!). Some people are indifferent on the atmosphere, I personally like it - it's unique. We sat at the long dining table on the lower level and I felt like I was eating in Hogwarts dining room:) Overall, an amazing experience. Definitely coming back!
Wonderful atmosphere, delicious food. I've been a few times and tried different dishes every time and nothing has disappointed. The lychee martinis are to die for. Suitable for an after-work dinner, a date, or a group celebration.
Love this place! I have to visit every time I'm in New York! Its unexplainable! From the ambiance, to the food, to the service, to the drinks, to the decorations! My favorite is the rock shrimp and mushroom noodles. Everything is amazing and a must try. They also have unreal cocktails!
