Truly a classic San Francisco hotel, awash in history. Walk around the lobby and see the exhibits of various US Presidents and intellectual luminaries who have stayed here or been affiliated with the hotel. Awesome location right on Union Square, with a good steakhouse and cocktail bar in the lobby.

Perfect location close to many and varied restaurants, with cable car stop and hop & off bus at the foot of the hotel. By cons, valet parking very expensive, as well as breakfast for children.

I stayed here during the recent worker strike. I would recommend not to stay here at least till the strike situation gets sorted out. You will probably get woken up at 7:15 am because of the noise of workers striking. In addition they also have fewer services available like no in-room dining because of the worker strike.

Update : it only got worse. They couldn't even deliver some basic requested cutlery like spoons/forks even half an hour after they said they would.

This is a very classy and old hotel, so while the decor and ambiance is nice, the room I stayed in wasn't equipped with the newest amenities. The knob that turns on the shower fell off right after I was already in the shower. I had to call the front desk to fix the shower while only wearing a towel.

Where do I start? They have a separate mobile check in line, and the lady who worked there refused to check me in even though I was the only one in that line and checked in a person from another line, even though they were not checking in with mobile. The air conditioner did not work for 2 of the 3 nights I was there. Checking out was a hassle, as the security guard told me reception does not handle checkouts. Moreover, they did not charge my corporate card as provided during check in, and charged my personal card provided to book the reservation.

There was a mix up with my reservation but the manager fixed it and accomodated me with ease. Plus i got an upgrade for the same price as my original quote with a patios room. I stayed 3 nights and I'd do it again.

Iconic building in San francisco. Great location for tourist as there is a cable car stop to pier 39, Lombard street and Ghiradeli place.
In front of the union square as well. Room was bit old but big. Cant complain.

This Westin has lost it's glory. When I visited in early December '18, the hotel staff was on strike right outside the entrance. What this meant was there was no room service, maintenance of the building and common areas was appalling (dirt thrown in corridors and lights not working) and broken plumbing. I spent 3 nights in a room where the shower was not working and they couldn't shift me to another room either!

There are much better options in the area than this Westin. The area itself is in a bad state with homeless people, plenty of druggies and shifty characters on the streets. Be careful.

Summary: the service was exquisite. Every employee was friendly and willing to assist you. As you check in, they offer you water and ask you personal questions in an attempt to soften the mood and bring customer service back to what its meant to be, about you. However, the stay was not perfect and hence the reason for fewer stars.

Check-in: amazing, fast, and I felt welcomed and unique. They have really nailed it on the head with their employee training and ambiance for the check-in process.

Atmosphere: as it was the holiday season, Christmas tress, Santa, and lots of lights adorned the multiple lobbies and public areas and brought a special feeling to the stay which I appreciated. Its a historic hotel in a perfect location, so everything works perfectly together.

The Room: it was just the right size. The closet and desk are in a nook while the bed has ample space around all 3 sides. A small sitting chair and a tv and dresser adorn the opposite side. The window was facing away from union square but towards the Westfield shopping mall, so it was still a desirable skyline. The bathroom tub was small and outdated but overall it was a nicely appointed bathroom, but the sink was very small.

The Bed: heavenly, not much else to say but clean and comfy.

The Cons: the bathtub did not drain properly so we stood in water during our shower, but for a one night stay I decided not to trouble them with it while we were in the room so I let them know as we checked out. The stickers on the bathroom mirror were peeling off, which I felt should be removed or replaced once they get to that point. The really major issue (as the prior things are all minor) was the noise, we could hear everything in the room next door and they decided to have about 12 guests over in their small room for about 4 hours. We had to go down stairs and security had to approach them. However, they still continued to have loud conversations and make a fuss till way past midnight.

In the end: it is the perfect location and feels charming but if the walls are too thin it makes it hard to want to stay at this location again, I believe it came through the adjoining door as we could not hear that much coming from the halls. For this reason, I have given it a 4 star rating, most hotels would probably get 3 stars but the location, service and ambiance make up for the noise.

Amazing bed, pretty much sound proof spacious rooms, blackout blinds on all windows, and overhead new age shower with great pressure. Plus there is a really good bar in the lobby and it's in the heart of San Francisco near amazing restaurants and nightlife.

The staff was very friendly and helpful with accommodating our newborn. Rooms are clean and the WiFi is good. The only complaint is the astronomical $80/night parking fee, which seems very high. The location is good, within walking distance to many restaurants and Market Street.

this hotel is basically a dump...it has a bug problem and the outdated furnishings just make it feel kinda gross overall. I d highly recommend staying at the nearby Palace Hotel instead it s also a Marriott/SPG property with comparable prices but incredibly better quality than this dumpy Westin property.

Had a pretty great stay here for a conference. The building architecture was.. well, "stunning" might be a bit far, but I liked it. My room was very comfortable, and the bathtub was deep enough that I was almost fully submerged besides my head and the top of my knees, which I don't experience often. I liked this place and would definitely consider staying here again the next time I'm in town.

I am a Global Technical Support Representative of Bloomberg L.P. we were there to set up the Bloomberg Terminals. The Hotel is a thing of beauty, great art in the Hotel, and throughout. My favorite was the Ballroom, the carpet seems old however, and not very fitting. The staff was friendly.

We came for the Christmas Tree lighting in Union Square, and paid extra for a room with a view of the event. The room wasn't cleaned from the previous occupants until 7:30 PM, so we missed the tree lighting.

CANCEL AND BOOK A DIFFERENT HOTEL!!
The hotel notified us that their staff was on strike just 24 hours before our check-in yet it has been ongoing for weeks. There are large groups of people with megaphones and drums outside all day and night. The ONLY option for breakfast, due to the strike, was a $40 Buffett which is VERY underwhelming with egg product, fruit and pastries. It s more like the free continental breakfast you get a most small hotels. You were either forced to spend $40 on a breakfast or had to bundle up and leave your room/hotel to eat. Our room refrigerator is not cold enough to hold food and our room phone doesn t work. Will NEVER stay here again! Waste of money! We paid regular room rates for a less-than experience and management seems to be okay with that.

We stayed here for New Year's Eve. The customer service here is excellent- the best we've ever experienced at a hotel. We were so impressed with the employees from the doormen (the greatest attitudes) to the front desk and to housekeeping.

Room was great, but we were woken up in the morning due to the the locked door between our room and the adjacent room. Unfortunately the door wasn't very soundproof at all and we could hear conversations going on in the next room.

Decrepit. Filthy air vents, miserable water pressure, unkempt lobby, clearing bucket in the hall at night, poor reception service... It's day has long come and gone. Staff doesn't even realize it.
