Love the new renovation in the building. This is such a great spot, easy to get anywhere in the city. Right in the center of it all!
Love the new renovation in the building. This is such a great spot, easy to get anywhere in the city. Right in the center of it all!
Glamour in a way you had always wanted in your hotel fantasies!
Only went to the bar, but the best whiskey sours I have yet to find in the city.
I have always loved the St Francis. This time was a little difficult. Apparently with the Marriot buying Starwood now there is labor strife. I am making no judgements for either side but was met but loud drum beating strikers. I hope the Marriot will agree to restore the pay and benefits the workers are accustomed to.
My family has gone there for Christmas dinner for the past 5 years. We always have a great time! I love how they have wine pairings for each course. The desserts are to die for as well as their espresso.
Situated right in front of Union square, best location for sightseeing and shopping. Rooms are fine. It has everything you'd expect and you won't experience uncomfortable surprises, which is actually a great thing at hotels in America.
One of the large and historic (one of several in the city) hotels in the city that is located right in the center of the touristy part of the city, in front of Union Square. The theater district and Chinatown is also close by. There is even a cable car line in front of the front door. A little pricey but accounting for all the time you can save just getting around, it s a great location.
Nice hotel. Clean and safe. Concierge was great helping us get restaurant reservations. The area is not the best, we went walking at 6:30am and we're definitely uncomfortable with the people yelling at us. After daylight it seems fine. Uber in the dark.
Went to New Year's Eve party there, and it was great!
While I've been in a room many years ago, I've mostly used the St. Francis, right along Union Square, as a place to stop in, get out of the crowd, sit down for a bit, go to the bathroom and wash up, that sort of thing. Most nice hotels around the world are perfect for this purpose.
Great service, great location for a tourist near museums and transit, and very clean. We only had two complaints. The adjoining room had a couple of screaming kids one day - the wall/door really could use better soundproofing. The windows also only have a thin sun curtain and no thicker blackout curtains, so there may be too much light depending on your light tolerance.
Service is world class, location is perfect, and the upgraded rooms in the original building are spectacular. I had a great view of Union Square from the 11th floor room i had last week.
Rooms were spacious. Beds are way too soft. Plumbing is from the 30s and so loud that I can hear people flushing their toilets from rooms a floor up.
Great place, pretty small room for the money but maybe that's San Francisco.
Elegant hotel with a long history. Must see the lobby.
Fantastic location! Excellent service, friendly staff and large, clean rooms. Great area for breakfast offering Starbucks coffee and fresh baked goods. Lobby restaurant/bar has a nice selection of food and nice ambience. More traditional decor/style, and rooms are a good size. Found the staff to be courteous and attentive. Will definitely return the next time we're in San Francisco!
Great staff, great rooms, great environment, great bar!
Amazingly beautiful historical hotel. All the beautiful facilities and great rooms. The openness and history is everywhere. You have to stay there to appreciate it!
The Westin did a nice job for Dreamforce. The rolls were setup well and everything was smooth. No complaints.
Great hotel with a beautiful lobby. Rooms at not remotely sound proof. Could use some updating throughout but a great property in a central location.
The staff were friendly, the hotel was clean, and I liked my experience.
Not bad. The first room smelled like pets. They moved us to a second room and it was ok.
I want to share with you the disappointing and frustrating experience that I recently had while staying at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco, California. I stayed at the hotel from March 30 to April 3, which was suppose to be a memorable experience
Upon checking-in to the hotel, I decided to upgrade from a Landmark Queen to a Grand Deluxe King Union Square View. I was told the room would be ready within the hour, and that I would receive a confirmatory text message. After waiting for 2 hours without receiving a confirmatory message, I returned to the front desk. After asking about the status of the room, I was informed that the room was ready. The room was recently renovated with a beautiful view of Union Square. However, I noticed a foul odour in the bathroom, a burnt out lightbulb in the chandelier and that the safe was broken. I returned to the front desk and asked to speak with a manager. I informed the manager of the issues and was reassigned to a different room. The second room that I was assigned to was an absolute downgrade from the previous room, as the layout and furnishings were completely different. Disappointed with the hotel room, I returned back to the front desk and asked to be reassigned to a room that was similar to the initial room that I was assigned. This sequence of events made for a displeasing arrival to the hotel.
After having been reassigned rooms on 3 different occasions, I was expecting a manager to follow-up with me regarding the ordeal. However, that did not happen. Also, throughout the stay at the hotel there was numerous issues with the keycards not allowing access to the room, which was inconvenient.
After returning home, I noticed a credit card charge of $325.14 from the hotel, which was unwarranted. I phoned the hotel to dispute the credit card charge and was questioned about the legitimacy of the claim. I was told to address the charge with the credit card company, as the hotel did not have a record of the transaction. After speaking with the credit card company, I phoned the hotel again to speak with a manager. The manager on duty was unavailable, however, I was able to speak with someone in the accounting department. The individual in the accounting department was able to find the transaction, which she mentioned was a staff error.
The following day, I wanted to voice the displeasure I had experienced with the hotel. I phoned numerous times throughout the day to speak with a manager, however, they were unavailable or in a meeting. Please, note that all of the calls made to the hotel for 2 days were long distance, as I live in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Being known as the premier hotel destination in Union Square , I am disappointed in the experience that I had while staying at the Westin St. Francis.
Very small bar with not a lot of space. Cocktails are fantastic though and should definitely stop by if you are in the area.
Beautiful, luxurious hotel! The architecture and decor alone are fantastic. The rooms are very clean and comfortable! I would definitely return for another stay!
Great location, spacious rooms. Very nice atmosphere.
I came in to have a drink and eat in the lobby area while I waited for my tour bus. The workers were nice and directed me in the right direction. The chairs and tables were spacious and comfortable.
This location in Union Square has worked hard to maintain a clean, safe, convenient place to stay for those on business and leisure travel. The front desk staff were friendly, the rooms were clean, the parking garage was well lit. The location is right on Union Square. What more can you ask for? Free food??? LOL
Exquisite! The hotel is Superbe. The ambience of years of service in It's a jewel in the heart of San Francisco. Walk out the front doors and there is designer shopping all around. Or you can go sit in the square and watch it all going on around you. The views of the city from the top floors are astounding. What a heavenly experience.
The Westin St Francis is an iconic, historic hotel that offers a comfortable experience [sometimes with lackluster courtyard Windows] that is a great launching point for visitors to the bay area.
The location of this property is fantastic, walking distance to so many places - right in the middle of downtown. The room is comfortable enough, but it definitely needs some renovations as things are looking a bit dated.
The noise from the strike is quite loud and I would avoid this location if you can.
The facade of The Westin St. Francis is impressive, not only dominating the view across Union Square - an actual plaza in the center of the neighborhood - but providing history and heritage. The hotel was built in 1904 with the 32-story tower (to the rear) completed in 1972 featuring exterior glass elevators that offer panoramic views of the bay. At a walking distance from the hotel is China Town, the theater district and the largest shopping area in San Francisco, connecting to Market Street which crosses the city side to side.
The lobby of the Westin St. Francis is a time machine to the past, to a time of great expectations and ambition - a time period where San Francisco was being built to be "the Paris of the West". The lobby features the famous clock, photographic prints of Ansel Adam's and a collection of hotel memorabilia.
Due to its heritage and decor the Westin St. Francis feels smaller than it actually is. With more than 1.200 rooms and suites it is big. During peak times such as checkout on Sundays you notice the large scale of the operation. In fact the check-in process took longer than expected but that was partly due to a large conference taking place in the hotel across two days. The Westin features a large wood paneled dinning room - the Oak Room - in a classic decor, used for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast at the Oak Room features a very complete buffet for about $35 a person as well as a'la carte options. The service in the Oak Room is second to none and one of the best I have experienced at a U.S hotel. A more informal option is provided by Caruso's a simple space offering wine, salads, juices and small bites throughout the day. Finally, the Clock Bar serves as the night gathering spot offering cocktails and a good selection of beers. It is on the expensive side but the ambience is very cool.
The first two days of my stay I was given a room in the 12th floor of the tower wing. The room was large, featuring two double beds, a large bathroom and the usual amenities of a large hotel. While the mattress and bedding were superb the rest of the room looked outdated and lacked any modern connectivity and technology such as USB ports normally found in luxury hotels. Upon my request, in the third day of my stay I was moved to a room in the 21 floor which felt more ample, lighter and featured a great view of the city. The hotel also offers a large fitness center gym which is impressive and complete. The only missing component to make it very enjoyable fitness experience is a sauna / steam room.
A nice, classy hotel that combines modernity and its rich history that is woven into San Francisco's own history. They have rotating displays of the hotels very own memorabilia and photographs of events and peoples past. Always a treat to spend time in their lobby. The rooms get great views. The glass elevator is always a joyful ride. Their public bathroom is very well-maintained and spacious.
Great room, reasonably priced, great view, unbeatable location, way overpriced room service.
The whole building is splendid, luxurious and comfortable. The staff is very accommodating and knowledge and the rooms are comfortable quiet and spacious.
Beautiful room with fabulous view. Convenient location and lots to do all around it. Elegant lobby and total setting.
An amazing hotel with friendly and accommodating staff. I stay here for the large gym with plenty of machines and free weights.
I loved it from the reception, the facilities, the room.
Great location with a stunning view of Union Square. Beautiful during Christmas season.
Big function rooms and superbly decorated for Halloween.
Yes it's expensive, but it's worth it, we have the tower city view room and it's amazing view day and night!!!! Well worth the money.
Old world buliding adds to the charm of this place. It is walking distance from some great shopping and good dining, although the restaurant on site is pretty good and some of their cocktails are amazing. The rooms themselves are nice but a bit odd at first because they are not your typical lavender walked box. Bellhop service and room service was prompt and very professional and nice, I will for sure stay here again .
Classic downtown San Francisco, you won t be disappointed
Horrible experience at this hotel. The room was not only small but really dirty and definitely in desperate need of renovation. Was forced to stay a minimum of two nights otherwise the hotel would have charge one night's cancellation fee. They had the discretion to waive that policy but decided not to despite being asked twice including via SPG as I am a Gold member. And they didn't even offer an option to switch rooms because they were sold out. Disappointed at the lack of service. Seriously reconsidering my SPG membership.
Nice hotel..small or awkward rooms if you book through a discount site, but who stays in the room in SF?
There workers are on strike making a lot of noise all day from around 7am on loud speakers...sort it out Marriott!
Bar at lobby had terrible service. Server was forgetting orders and mixing orders with other patrons.
Yikes. This hotel needs a serious update. Rooms are shoddy and in disrepair. This is not what the supposed flagship Starwood hotel in SF should be.
Didn't spend much time in the room or the hotel but what I did was very nice. Very clean and the staff was excellent. My only knock was that for what you pay a night you should get parking but you don't. Parking is an extra $58 a night and $68 a night for valet service. I don't like being nickel and dimed at nice establishments.
Rooms are clean and well maintained with good climate control, gym has a lot of cardio machines but not a lot of free weights. Did not try the restaurants but they look decent enough. Location is nice, plenty to do in walking distance. Wifi is actually pretty solid but there is a fee to use it, 10Mbps and 20Mbps options but I had no issues with connectivity or throughput once online.
Well, on this visit to San Francisco, we actually didn't stay here, but just visited the lobby in the Christmas season. It was decorated beautifully and really put us in the Christmas spirit. I have actually stayed here when I was younger. It is a very nice hotel. We did stop at the wine tasting room for some delicious wine from Chateau Montelena.
Love Westin beds, nice quiet room especially for being on union Square
Great location, being in Union square. Great service, clean rooms.
Top hotel, super comfortable and very well located!
If anybody is trying to find good deals for hotels visit HotelBuIIy. com booked a hotel on there and they had the best rates anywhere!
Excellent experience at a high-profile Charity Fundraiser Event held at this San Francisco Westin St. Francis Hotel in their Colonnade Ballroom space. The staff was professional, organized, and helpful. The food and beverages served were excellent. It was a beautiful and successful event and I would come back here again. Thank-you.
Good location, wasn't there long enough to say anything else about it.
Being a gold member is so worth. Pick up and drop off was easy.
Front desk very accommodating, friendly, beautiful hotel, great location
My colleague stayed here for a conference. We asked them to use a corporate card and were happy to provide authorization. However, they then duplicatively charged both the corporate card and my colleague's card. I understand that mistakes happen. However, the rudeness of every single staff member I spoke to at this hotel, when arranging the authorization and after their error, is cause enough to NEVER stay here again. Especially for hundreds of dollars a night. There are much better options in the city.
Excellent service and a wonderful place to hold an event.
This hotel is in a good location and it's one of the few hotels in San Francisco where I was able to get some quiet sleep. The bar downstairs is really good and the staff were very friendly.
Great location
Good history
It's a very nice hotel, although it's a shock that you have to pay for wifi
Very beautiful historic hotel, just opposite Union Square! The exterior, but also the interior decoration, is a wedding of aesthetics, of another era, of the historical classic with the modern high technology! Elegant, clean, bright! The outdoor elevator gives another sense of the space around ... The room was clean, beautiful and functional! The employees here try to offer you their services with courtesy and sweetness. The experience was wonderful. We came from Greece and we will return at the first opportunity!!
This hotel was very nice. The architecture was really cool. Part of this hotel was old school and then the other part was renovated. The placement of this hotel is what was awesome. So close to so much downtown. The staff was good. Be prepared for long check in process some time because of how busy it can be. Overall a great place to stay.
Nice classic hotel in middle of San Francisco and shopping, entertainment
If possible, stay in the tall tower for amazing views of San Francisco. If nothing else, ride the elevator to the top (floor 32 I believe)
