An old but beautifully maintained and updated property in the prime location on Union Square.
Reception was polite and our room well appointed. The bathroom size reflects the age of the hotel but the room itself was very nice. I appreciated the multiple power points on the desk and both sides of the king size bed.
We chose the buffet breakfast in the morning and were pleasantly surprised at the level of service - food quality and selection were good too.
The hotel has a warm and welcoming feel to it and we will stay again.

Location and presentation for the holidays is the best here. Staff is dressed and conduct themselves professionally. The downstairs lobby is decorated like a christmas card- impossible to pass up without taking pictures.

For the price, it was an underwhelming experience. You walk into this grand lobby, and everything looks so nice. Then you go up to the room level, and there's *thick* dust on the trim boards and every corner. The room was big enough for the bed, but not much bigger. There was no power outlet near the desk. The shower, with signs up about saving water by reusing your towel, leaked a ton of water out the bath faucet when the shower was on, and this in one of California's worst droughts. I thought I might splurge and order room service for myself, I had realistic expectations on what that costs, but their prices were higher than similar hotels I've stayed in, and I decided against it. They had nice sheets though.

TL;DR: the fancy chandeliers can't make up for the sub par accommodations.

This is a sweet hotel with a great location right on Union Square. Parking can be difficult but once you get to the hotel the service is quality. Friendly employees throughout and great views of the city make this a good option to visit.

The protesters ruined my stay during Oracle OpenWorld. They were so close to the front steps and every entrance with pots banging, drums, whistles, and bullhorns that it caused ear-splitting discomfort. From 7 am to 10 pm count on noise filtering to your room so don't plan on working for an extended time. Not worth $400 a night plus $60 in taxes. Go somewhere else.

I didn't feel comfortable in my friends room because of the amount of things we heard going on in the hallways. I felt like if we could hear the things we were hearing that everyone could hear everything we were doing... And I just didn't like that thought hovering in the back of my head considering how much my friend paid for the room.

We booked this place only for 2 days after going and seeing the other hotels in union square we decided to stay here for the whole trip of ten days since everything was so good the Bart station is just 5 mts walk and there is a shuttle bus every our to Burlingame town and the metro

Went to meet a friend. Couldn't go up because you have to insert your card and enter the floor prior to calling the elevator. They have done this to improve the safety of their guests, but it is a little inconvenient too.

Went to hang out with friends before hitting the bars, very nice hotel, speedy elevators, but for some reason they put a keypad on the bathroom, it wasn't actually locked I later discovered but.....

The exterior and immediate interior of the Westin St. Francis feel like history (and this IS a very historic building), with beautiful stone work, deep wood work, and other excellent details. The rooms themselves don't quite match the rest of the hotel, feeling a bit dated. Beds are comfortable, and the rooms are quiet for being located in the busy city. Staff are very, very accommodating and friendly, great service!

Pro tip - if you're scared of heights, be aware that the elevators to this hotel are on the outside of the building. Beautiful view of San Francisco, but rather unsettling if you don't like heights!

Absolutely beautiful hotel with great views of the city. I encountered some very inviting workers. I stood here with my husband and two kids (toddler/preteen) we were all comfy and had plenty of amenities. Union Square is just across the street and shopping is all around the area. BTW If you are looking for regular every day items. There are 3 walgreens within a 3 block radius of the hotel.

Xx

Great location on union square. Went there for a big Halloween event (did not stay overnight), multiple ballrooms, stage for DJ, etc. Beautiful decor, good for weddings and other events. Don't park here if you can help it...thrres cheaper parking gsrages nearby.

Much better experience for me second time around @this Grand Dame of SF, with perfect location and history to match. Beware of old and very small rooms in main building, and ask for Tower rooms instead: they are much nicer. Prices are generally reasonable, service is mostly good and cheerful.

The staff is so terrible and extremely rude. They treated us as though we were stupid at the front desk during check in. We could not get a receipt sent through the website after 3 requests I called and finally had one emailed, the guy sent it and then hung up on me, no thank you, nothing. What terrible service for people in the hospitality business.

I expected a five star experience from this hotel. However, this hotel is highly expensive without the normal amenities. No complimentary breakfast, the rooms look old and small. I was expecting a lot and my expectations were not fulfilled.

The hotel property is average... Certainly not the "world class" hotel we all saw as a television game show prize in the 70's.

The staff is friendly and efficient ... But, not a world class service provider.

I am always happy to return to the Westin St Francis and insist that I stay in the original structure. (Hence I can't comment on the new 1970 tower in the rear). As for the original structure of the hotel, the St Francis is an awesome blend of historical detail with modern comfort. The only disappointment I had upon my recent stay was that the gold leaf railings of all stairwells and balaclavas were painted over in an odd *Soft grey* colour. I realise gold leaf is expensive but feel it should've been maintained on the lower stairwells and especially in the main lobby balconies.
The old portion of the hotel is said to be haunted and during my last stay (March 6-9, 2020) I admit that I experienced no less than FOUR situations which were unexpected... and yes, my room was on the 12th floor. Two situations did shock me but, I was never uncomfortable or "scared". If there are ghosts, they're friendly and just want to make themselves known.

Considering the price, the only good thing about this hotel are the rooms; good size, good views. Also good free wifi. However, for a Westin Hotel I expected a lot more for over 350 dollars a night. The service staff sounded like they hated their job and were impatient and the only dining location in the hotel has extremely inconvenient times. Breakfast closes at 10:30 with lunch starting at 12pm. 1 HR AND HALF OF NO FOOD SERVICE!? yeah that really pissed us off having no breakfast convenience...
