If I could give zero Stars I would. They have the worst customer service on Earth!!! They are the most ignorant impersonal people I have ever dealt with in my 35 years. We will not be dealing with them next season. Save your money!

The service is awful! Our annual cleaning was deferred until 12/30 this year because of "shortage in service technicians."
Shipley then billed me for a service call to clean the furnace because it was acting up prior to the annual cleaning.
Shipley never provided the annual maintenance as in our plan and refused to deduct the cost difference between this and the service call. Nor would anyone ever call me back. Just awful!

I had this company for over 18 months and was really happy with them. My contract ran out in May 2019 and I didn't see a point signing a new one considering I had no plans on even entertaining the idea of going to a different supplier. Everything stayed the same until January 2020 when they decided, during the coldest month to date, to literally double the price if my electric. It went from around $.07/KWh to $.14/KWh. This resulted in me getting a bill for $411. When I called and asked why, after switching suppliers, they said that they intentionally did that because I did not sign the contract to keep a fixed rate, and that was what their variable rate costs that month. But, if I want to sign another contract, they would be happy to have me come back. Why would I want to come back to a company that waits until the coldest part of the year to DOUBLE the cost of electric? There should be laws in place to protect consumers from this type of price gouging. I would not recommend these people to anybody. You would be better off buying directly from PPL!

This was my first time using Shipley Energy. A few weeks ago, I called and asked to have our central air conditioning fixed. It wasn't blowing out any cool air. Anthony came out and asked if we wanted it replaced or to try to get it working. It is 19 years old. We were going to list our home and down size. I told him just put freon in. Because of the leaks, it took 4 pounds of freon. The bill was $866.00. He told me that if I replace the old air conditioning unit within 30 days I would get the whole amount credited towards the new unit. After a few weeks, my husband convinced me to stay in our house and not move. We decided to go ahead and invest in the new. Mark and Angel installed the new unit this morning. They were on time even put plastic down to protect our wood floors and rugs. They were very efficient and did excellent work. When they were finished I asked about the $866.00 that we had already paid for our previous service. They called their office and Steve told them to deduct it from our bill. I personally think that they provided the best possible service any business could have offered.

in July I had requested a quote for installation of a propane tank and a HVAC unit on the 5th I got a return call on the 7th we set appointment for the 14th all is good so far
Anthony came out to my house on 14tth and conducted a survey, he was to give me a quote within 2 3 days. After a week on the 23rd, I texted him and he said he was waiting on getting the cost of one last part, he had it now and he would send out the quote that day. I waited until the 27th no quote, texted him again, and waited, on the 28th I texted him. each time he said he would send out the quote that day.
well that day never came.
At no time did shipley contact me after the survey (ghosted ) I have to contact them, bad customer service
my guess that shipley energy does not want to do business with me, I have never worked so hard to try and give my money to a company.
I wasted a month trying to business with shipley

Owen was so helpful and answered all my questions when he came to look at my heater. The other technicians that have come out since were very polite and took the time to explain everything for me.

I've been a Shipley Propane customer since 2015. After experiencing a very large spike in my propane prices from Shipley, I did some research and called their customer support. Kat and Steve addressed my concerns, re-billed by two previous high price propane invoices, and locked me into a competitive rate going forward. It's always nice working with a customer service department that speaks clearly, acts quickly, and is empathetic toward a valued customer's concern. Thanks guys - greatly appreciated.

Had Shipley as our energy supplier through PPL for a long time. We changed providers and went to redeem the reward points build up on our account and was told the account must be active to redeem them.
It would have been nice if that information was provided before. These companies and tneir bonus, or reward programs are in many ways a fraud, someone pays for the so called reward poings. And in this case and I wonder how many others tbe company pockets the money.
We may have lost tnem but I will take the ti e to file a complain witb tbe regulator acency, better business bureau, ect.
Companies must be held accountable cases like this of their obvious customer satisfaction shortcomings.
And tbe reason we switched was becuaee of PPL saying Shipley rates were high. So shop around and remember those reward programs arent free.

Have to change my rating of them to 5 stars. The company reached out to me and aplogized saying tbey could have handled tbe issue better. I was very impressed. They even sent me a check covering the reward points I accumulated.

Thank you Shipley Energy. You're a good company.

nice rate. courteous service reps but anything outside of the script they read is just ignored. they do not handle simple requests and you wait forever to get responses. Customer service is definitely lacking.

Dale is great at customer care.he was polite and knowledgeable at his call.i had to call in a few times and all the other customer care agents rushed me off the phone.just wanted to sell me more service. dale took his time with the call and explained everything completely. He made me feel like he really cared.i was ready to cancel. Due to dale I'm a happy customer. i will be staying with shipley energy.

Possibly the worst company I've ever dealt with. Was left without heat for 11 days, and only fixed because I called a contractor. Service Contract wasn't worth the paper it was written on. On the occasions I had service personnel on-site, half were professional, half were rude or incompetent. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY

Few times we had to call them to get them to come out and fill her gas tank. Not many problems with that Since then. We had one guy who didn t want to go through the fence couldn t understand that. Customer service, Melissa not great. Actually awful. I can say this would be the reason that we re taking Shipley off of all of our jobs and replacing them at our home residence. Melissa is horrible at customer service.

Thank you Shipley oil. Had a friend in dire need for oil. I arranged to have oil delivered on a Friday afternoon told them she had a house full of kids, including a newborn. They had oil in her tank in less then 24 hours. You folks rock!

Had a new tank installed on 11/29. I was told there was a leak. I assisted the installer in basement above ceiling and discovered the line appeared to be partially above a finished ceiling. At that point, I suggested we just run a new line. Today is 12/10 and I have not heard back from them. Called and spent 19 minutes on hold to find out they were waiting for me to call them? I was given no work ticket or instructions when the tank installer left on 11/29. As I hung up with the operator today, I was told Nate or Matt will call me today as neither answered their phone and she sent them an urgent email because the first opening on the schedule isn't until 12/17. I am a brand new customer and Shipley is not off to a good start...

It was a very good year that we had with Shipley Energy. Unfortunately since they raised their rates for the new year we will be going to a different provider, unfortunately Shipley was not able to match the rate. Will miss their rewards program.

Horrible service...We were paying market price for our electric service and we recently received a usage increase of over 65%. I understand rates fluctuate but over 65%!!! Our intro rate was at market so it wasn't big savings but for this to be your post-intro rate is crazy. Moving on to another company.

Worst company. I used to get our oil from J Gress, then they sold or merged with Shipley. Since then the customer service has gone down hill. I paid 200 for a service plan to get my heater cleaned. complete rip off. they outsourced their business and anther company told me I needed a new furnace...which was a ploy to sell me a new unit. I called Shipley to cancel the service plan, and speak with a manager to tell my experience and they never returned my call.

Local business with great customer service (yeay Kate!!!) and no robots. When you call, real live human beings help you with your issues. You are not talking to the other side of the planet or to (grrrr snarrl) robots! Seriously; quick response with "no heat" issues, as well as ways to work within your budget. Local people who care about their customers.

Called to put my CAP in place for my propane and oil and Kate was outstanding! We talked through the best options for my 2 places and she recommended the best cost savings! My family has used Shipley for 4 yrs and they are always top notch! Even when we added the second place that uses oil, they came out right away to get it set up. Customer Service is always great and even when I was confused at a billing issue, I called and got immediate help! My family will use them for years to come.

Came home from being away for a week amd didnt realize in the new home how much propane we would use. Called other companies, including the one that serviced here before, and they all told me a week (wind chill currently at 0). Called shipley, set up automatic delivery, and for a small service fee got same day delivery!

Long time electric and natural gas customer of Shipley Energy. Have always received prompt and courteous customer service over the phone. Kat explained their Guarantee Saving Plan and Customer PowerPerk reward program in easy understandable language. Appreciated the willingness to work with me when my annual contracts were scheduled to be renewed. Have found this to be a rare commodity in this day and age. Thank you Shipley Energy!

No problems with service. Shipley supplies my propane and electricity. They offer great intro rates for new customers the 1st year but look out the second year. They will jack your rates up out of site. They just quoted me my new 2nd year electricity rate at $.09210 from my 1st year rate of $.0679. That rate is way higher than most the other suppliers in the area. I guess they think you won't check other rates and just sign on for another year or, they don't want to sell electricity. I did call in and discuss this with them and was still quoted a higher rate then the average in my area. They did the same thing with the propane a few years ago but did get back in the going rate ballpark barely. Beware.

My experience with Shipley Energy has always been positive; they offer competitive rates and great service. I especially like how they are a family owned business and actually give back to the local communities where they have a presence. I'm happy to leave a 5 star review for a great local company!

As a new customer I am quite disappointed in the billing error on my first invoice. I was charged for 20 gallons of propane that I never received. Customer service told my that it was their error & would be corrected but yet I am still receiving an invoice with the incorrect amount. My previous energy company made no errors in over 2 years. I miss them.

I called to check on rates going forward since my original contract was about to expire in about one month. At the end of my conversation with Brian I specifically told him not to cancel my service. Instead of allowing my new electric supplier to coordinate the termination with PPL he sent a letter to PPL on his own. Instead of a seamless change i now am stuck paying PPL rates until my new electric supplier takes over. Brian should never work in customer service and should reimburse me for the additional costs I will incur because of his actions.

Thanks for stealing money from your customers by signing them up for an entire year as their MAIN source of heat as an Auxiliary source and inflating our rates!!!!! Costing us thousands in overages. And the day before our budget plan runs out you double filled our propane tanks and charged us 400$$$$ your company should be ashamed of themselves for stealing money from NEW homeowners!!!!! We will be reporting this to the BBB! Since your company made NO efforts to make right!!!

All I can say is that Shipley saved my day today. This is the 1st time I've used them but will be sure to use them from now on. I didn't know my oil guage was broken so I woke up this morning to no heat knowing we have a big snow storm coming tonight. I called in and spoke with Michelle (after speaking with different companies all morning that couldn't promise anything sooner than 3 days) and she told me she would get in touch with someone to make sure I was delivered oil asap. She called me back within a half an hour telling me that she was able to get me on today's deliveries (and mind you her rate was cheaper than the other companies as well). The man showed up in his truck by late afternoon and even restarted my furnace for me. I wish I would've got his name. These people were so courteous and understanding of the situation I was in and went above and beyond for me. All I can say is that you guys literally saved my day today and I can't thank you enough!!!! Please make sure you reach out to Michelle and my delivery driver and give them my praises. Because of them I'll be a lifetime customer for sure!

So I received a renewal letter from my natural gas supplier, Shipley Energy. They inform me that my service will automatically renew Feb 15. And at a rate 50% higher than my current rate, and 30% higher than they offer to the man off the street, the new client. So my question is-why treat your current customer, your loyal customer, your friend-worse, far worse, than for or with someone whom you've never worked?
Is this today's business model? Sneak the cost increase into the current customer's contract, hoping he/she doesn't see it? Does this not sound like the predator at the bar or restaurant, spiking your drink or food to then rob you or worse? Avoid this business model and those who practice it at all costs!

Shipley purchased Jay Gress Oil who we used for years. We were not sure what to think and thought we would give them a chance. We signed a Maintenance Contract with them. We had an issue with Oliver HVAC, whom Shipley subcontracts the contracts out to in our area. They blew out our hot water tank and ran our natural water well dry. My husband was dealing with Steve Green the entire time. We had to pay over $2,800 for the new tank which Shipley in turn reimbursed us for.

Steve was awesome to deal with and completely understood our situation. We will stay with them.

I use propane, I live on a low fixed income, I have a mortgage & bills. I have 2 really bad knees and cant hardly walk my other half is on oxygen 24/7 and I am unable to get in my truck to go anywhere and so we are stuck in our home and so far it's been 4yrs we haven't been anywhere and with this covid I can't do anything about my knees cause I don't want to bring covid home to him and I am thankful we use propane for heat. It's warmer than oil I believe. I have had oil where I lived before. Propane is a lot warmer. I wouldn't change to oil I don't think ever. But this entry I really want to win. Too hard for me to go see how much propane is in tanks. Thanks for this entry from the bottom of my heart ;-)

We ve had Shipley for two years for propane. We only have a small fireplace and only use it on the weekends. I started thinking that our bill was a little expensive and decided to look around. I found that most propane services, especially the mom and pop ones, don t charge you to use their propane tanks. I was spending $89 a year to rent one from Shipley. I also realized that it didn t matter how little we used Shipley was coming every other week to top off our tank. They were charging anywhere from $3.49-$4.09 a gallon. When I called to cancel they told me I need to pay a $89 pickup fee for the tank and another $1.25 to be pumped. So essentially I m paying another $1.25 on top of the per gallon charge I already paid. Plus I just paid the tank rental fee for the year. This company will nickel and dime you until the end. Do yourself a favor and call a local propane service like Heller Gas. They offered me $1.85 per gallon for my first fill and that will get me through the whole winter, plus they don t charge you to rent their tanks. I will never consider Shipley in the future or recommend them to anyone.

I called to cancel my services with Shipley Energy a month ago, they still showed up on my bill-costing me an extra $26! They finally gave me confirmation that my account is cancelled-saying they had phone issues in their office the week I initially called to cancel.

I thought they were a good company. I was on auto pay each month, they called me around Christmas and said they needed to up my monthly fee because I was using more oil than estimated. I told them I couldn't do that, I just didn't have that kind of money at the time. Just recently I decided to take myself off of auto pay because no matter how cheap the price of oil is, my auto payment never decreased. Upon calling I spoke with someone and had the monthly payments stopped as well as the auto deliveries. I was informed at that time that I had over $700 as a credit to my account because I had been paying more than I was actually being charged. I asked to have the money refunded back to me and they said okay, and the woman took down my bank account number to have it refunded to my account. 3 days later I still didn't have the money in my account, so I called again. I was informed that my auto payments were not stopped and that there was no information about a credit refund. So again this person took my information and said that they would refund me and stop the auto payments. 2 more days went by and no refund, I called again. This time I was informed by another rep. that it would come as a check and the check was written that week on Friday, so I would receive quite possibly that day (Monday) because it was mailed. Another 3 days goes by, still no refund check. I called again and this person says that the check was written that Friday and would be sent the next Friday. It has now been over 3 weeks and still no refund! I am beyond livid at this point, there is no reason a company should be able to take my money the same day if needed but take over 3 weeks to refund my money back AND not one person has the same story when I call?! I will be using another oil company this winter, because I do not feel like they are being honest with me.

Shipley gets a zero star rating. Scheduled a furnace cleaning and tune up in Oct 2020. Received a confirmation email the day before. Took a day off work to accommodate.
No service. No contact. No follow up.
Disappointed to say the least.
Other potential customers, please go with a smaller local provider. Don't waste your time with this organization. It's the 2nd time in 3 years that I've been stood up. They will never get another ounce of consideration from me. Lost a loyal residential customer.

Good People. Rough start but they made up for it. Same things happen in every business. Their Service Manager Nate ended up taking care of everything and that's essentially the hallmark of a good business no matter what you experience with them.

Very knowledgeable and affordable when they came to my house to service my AC unit. Customer Service was great as well. Since having my AC serviced, I've signed up for them to supply natural gas and electricity to my house. It was a smooth transition and the customer care team was able to answer all of my questions. Would highly recommend!
