Excellent Hotel with great and friendly staff. Also some outstanding food in the restaurants. The only problem I've had post this wonderful stay, is trying to register with the Shangri la Golden Circle. The website seems very glitchy.

Rooms are good, although bed wasnt comfortable i couldnt sleep at night,

Restaurant staff have bad and terrible attitude chef's, early morning dueing breakfast rhey were veeery rude and talking to people in a bad way

Hotel restaurant senior manger behrouz and hostess cherry were very nice and professional they apologized for the staff bad attitude.

Service all i can say about it that its more than great and beautiful keep it up guys,

Pool is not that good but its OK

Beach is nice but it has a lot of seaweed.

Overall its a great hotel and great service they offer i would recommend it for short stay or long.

Only stayed for one night but the staff were absolutely brilliant. We had a very late flight out and even with Easter guests coming in for the weekend, they managed to make an apartment available to us until we left for the airport. We will most definitely use this hotel again on future visits.

One of the most prominent locations in Abu Dhabi. ...

One of the most prominent locations in Abu Dhabi. There is a "walk" stretching through the entire beachfront from the hotel to "Souq Al Beri", where you can see the Sheikh Zayed Mosque and the Ritz Carlton across the water bay. There are numerous restaurants and bars overlooking the bay, some of them serve shisha (hubbly) as well.

Even though it's a big hotel, all the wonderful people working there, like the lovely people at the door and the breakfast crew, made it feel like a very intimate and comfortable place. There was a lot of pleasant personal connection with everyone.

Lovely ambiance and location, adjacent to the Souq where many nice restaurants and cafes are located on the canal .. yet a bit outdated and the TV belongs to another era!!.
The staff was friendly and helpful.
The breakfast buffet... mmmm.. big, variety of selections, and to be honest the biggest breakfast desert menu I ever had, yet the most tasteless of all. Tried the omelet and foul among other dishes and were absolutely terrible to the extent I quit going down for breakfast on the third day.
I was looking for a luxurious resort like hotel, well, that s not what I found at this hotel.

Beautiful Shanri-La.Much much better than the one in Dubai.The staff and the service were amazing..The food was amazing...Seafood night was delish...with king prawns,lobsters and steaks cooked to your liking in front of you.And if something was not quite right Mr Amin-was the man (the great manager)who will try to sort it out for you.The horizon club was a nice touch ..with small bites and refreshments to prepare you for the lavish and abandon Arabic cuisine dinners.Highly recommend you to stay there despite the 40 degrees at this time of the year.

THIS WAS ALL SORTED OUT BUT WE HAD BEEN PROMUSED THAT IF A ROOM WITH A RIVER VIEW CAME UP WE WOULD BE NOTIFIED

The staff provided excellent service from my housekeeper Malik to the waitstaff at the restaurant.
Laundry was excellent with its on time delivery and pressing of my clothes. Every where your staff was courteous in greeting everyone with a smile. I would definitely return and stay with the shangrila again.

Everything about it is amazing! The food is delicious and the pools and the beach are also outstanding. The rooms are nice and the staff is friendly. The only minor bad thing is that we asked for a room not on the ground floor and then got one on the ground floor. (We were able to change rooms later)

1. since I have booked the room and dinner reservations, I expected a table to be ready for me at the restaurant.
2. the cake provided with the room was too small and we did not feel that it lives up the standard of a 5-star hotel.

I should say that I am an experienced mystery shopper who has done various hotels in the UAE, so I could provide some insight to the management if requested to do the same.

We were supposed to stay 5 nights 26th to 31st Dec...

We were supposed to stay 5 nights 26th to 31st Dec18, but we cancelled the last night for the principle.
We had a really bad experience at the Sofra restaurant, we were on a half board basis.
Here are some of the points:
The staff was more focused cleaning the table than looking after the customers.
We had to wait between 10-15 min to get our drinks
We were asking hot chocolate for our baby, the staff always filled his bottle to 1/3.
The dirty plate and cutlery were on a trolley next to the tables
One morning the coffee cup went to the floor, the staff looked at it but didn't bother cleaning it.
The staff would stand up for few minutes next to a table ready to clean without touching anything on the table.
The quality of the buffet is not a 5 stars standard, the desert didn't have any taste.
95% of the buffet if food in sauce
Many times there was no name next to the dishes, we had to guess
No allergy sign or warning

On top of all this, my wife was sick for 2 days, so the chef made her a chicken broth (we appreciated) that's all she had but we still got charged a full lunch.

And while talking to other guests in the hotel, I realised they shared the same experience than me about the Sofra

This was a beautiful spot to spend a few days! The views were spectacular. The room was perfect. The Horizon Club was really nice. Having the Souk nearby for dinner was excellent, too. The only thing I would like to see improved was the buffet breakfast. It seemed under-staffed. The various stations were often without personnel in attendance. The quality of the food was not as high as I would expect from Shangri-la.

Me and my husband stayed Seven Nights at the Shangri- La in Abu Dhabi in May 2018. Our overall impression is that, this hotel is an amaxing five star hotel, it is unfair that this hotel has five stars - it should have more! The building, rooms, pool bar, spa, restaurants etc are all fantastic, but what really sets the Shangri - La is the service and the friendly staff. An example of the outstanding service: The Waiter Ram Kumar remebered what drinks we had every day and he was so hard working, Kumar never stopped serving people and getting anything that you wanted from the buffet. The Sofra Bld has so much choice that even the local people dine there and the head chef is allways smiling and helpful.
The Horizon club lounge is a nice touch to have a relaxing drink before dinner and canapes.
When we arrived we had to complain about some thing but the Manager Nadzir sorted every thing for us and after that we had the most amazing time.
He is an fanstastic manager and deserves to be in charge of this amaxing hotel.

Many little disappointments built up to a horrible experience. We arrived at check-in time but our room wasn't ready. So we went to the pool for an hour, but couldn't get a seat because the team had over-reserved the area (many "taken" lounges but not people present), so had to just sit around waiting. Eventual room had a random extra bed we never requested and the the toilet may not have ben cleaned as there was an overpowering smell of urine. Went to the bar in the lobby and ordered a cocktail - which took 3 different people to understand how to make one. I gave up and went back to my urine smelled room.
I expected a ShangriLa hotel to be the pinnacle of service. What I got was a sub-par experience and a massive regret I didn't book Emirates Palace instead.

The staff are friendly and have a high level of professionalism and attention to detail
The restaurant needs to introduce new items at dinner and lunch as the dishes are repeated every time

Generally felt that the standards had deteriorated since my last visit. Lack of understanding of plain ignorance I am not sure but on more than one occasion I had to raise my voice to get what I wanted. Ordered to DVD's for my children and after five phone calls and personally visiting the front counter only one got delivered without any apology. After raising my voice at Essa the duty manager, the second DVD magically appeared. At breakfast asked for orange marmalade and was told there is none! After shouting at the staff two bottles of orange marmalade appeared! What a shame to such a prestigious name. These are just two of the negative experiences I have mentioned with several more during my two days stay. Unfortunately it has ruined my reassurance that I can always expect the highest standards from the Shangri-La group. Don't think I will be staying at this Hotel again.

it was great. there were some things that could be better but overall we liked it a lot.

Things to improve:

reservation staff for tables for new years were not the best. We had to talk to 3 people to get our table outside and was never notified of having to book in or outside.

also the internet/wifi doesnt reach the beach area. This has to work on a 5 star hotel.

there was glass in our garden that my wife almost cut her feet on, and when we asked somebody to clean it, he only took some of the sharp glass.

the shower door was leaking water to the floor and was only fixed after we asked for it.

As somebody who cares about the environment, i also think you use way to many plastic water bottles all over the hotel. Efforts to reduce that and give people refillable bottles should be made.

I visited this place almost a year ago. Never got a chance to go there. I would say as it s on the side of water so dnt think so it s a great time to visit it in summer but a must go place in winters. Not such a crowded place though.

Absolutely glorious hotel built in 2003. I love the elegant interior featuring traditional furnishings with stylish brown furniture and sophisticated lighting. The hotel has a Regency elegance, timeless in design. Superb restaurant with magnificent breakfast buffet and attentive staff. Glorious architectural feature both inside and out respecting Arabic culture in a bygone age, wonderful poolside service and the staff to materialise as if by magic anticipating your every need. Beautiful suites and comfy beds just enhance your experience. Thoroughly recommended

Lovely hotel, we sat down at the terrace outside by the pool. The ambiance was amazing with a classy seating area. Had a variation of drinks which got us chilling for a while. Drinks were pretty good as you would expect from such an establishment. Followed by the buffet indoors which was simply to die for with seafood grill which was a delight . Would certainly recommend.

We had the most amazing 3-day stay at the Shangri-La Hotel, Abu Dhabi. The hotel and the service were exceptional. Checkin and checkout was seamless. The F&B team were fantastic at breakfast and very attentive. One of the best experiences we had we even took a group photo with the team on our last morning. The breakfast itself amazing, with its breads and pastries baked onsite and a large selection of delicious breakfast items. We stayed in the Horizon rooms and all was perfect. The rooms were very well appointed and spacious. We found the staff to be super friendly and helpful throughout all the hotel. We look forward to our next stay. Thank you to all the staff for making it a special stay for our family.
