Very good front office staff members and members of the restaurant alike. Seem very polite and courteous. So far has been good experience on my previous stay and current stay. Would really recommend this hotel anytime compared to all other hotels. Experience that counts.

I had to change my room for the second night of my stay, as the first room was located next to the lifts, which were so loud that I barely slept the first night. It was good that the staff was happy to change my room, however to make this happen I had to quickly pack my bags and take them to the lobby so that they could clean the first room and I could check in again after the check in time (2pm). Another issue was the cleanliness - the shower drain was clogged, tables hadn't been properly cleaned and all the tea cups and glasses were very stained (lipstick marks and tea stains). Location is good, but I don't think that I'll stay at Jen's the next time I'm in Penang.

Face some issue on the toilet water supply as whenever next door flushing, there will be loud sounds coming out. The reception is kind enough to block the next room so that no check in guest during my stay. Truly appreciated that.

Your staff is one of the most professional. Our special appreciation and commendation goes to Ms Kelly Ooi who was very courteous, helpful and really went the extra mile to furnish us with all info and assistance we required. We would like to also compliment the room service for their friendly and efficient attention at all times. Our guests complimented that the food was awesome.

Pre-Arrive
-book 2 month earlier
-keep updates every week with reservations team on requested room.
-we do informed some of it is depends on availability.
-request on same level for all room,with bath tub.
-get earlier information that we allowed to use the facility at golden sand resort.

CON.
-Early check in on 1030am, but during check in all requested room as per confirm with reservation team by email not as per promise.not ready at all.
-The reservation team already informed that all our request is arranged (maybe they just said to avoid we cancel our room due to we hv free cancellations booking).But all rooms is not there at all. This attitude is really unprofessional.
-we need to take the room which seperated on 3 different level, or need to wait for more than 1 hours.
-The FO change all my details on Shangri-la account without my permisioon,this is unacceptable.Make me wondering if its safe all information and card/payment detail i put on the account.
-On 17/9 around 3pm, i notice this happen on my account,go down to FO and ask for what happens.They said nothing happened on my account but i show them what they already done.they said nothing problem.
-i straight email to SRL team,and they the one who rectify this problem.
-if u drive,there is busy road infront of the hotel.Be carefull to out from property coz NO ONE wil help u.
-Limited parking space during weekend,need park at the front property (st giles).

*Overall the Checkin experience,the reservations team(we been contacted almost every week in this 2 month) give false information and promise, rate for this is 3/10.

PRO.
-The hotel location,is nearby old city Georgetown.
-The housekeeping Team is awesome,everytime we meet one of them will say hello and some hv a little chitchat on where should we do,we go and so on.
-The buffet breakfast is Good,Nasi lemak is good, The Dining staff is good,food is awesome.thumb up!
-Dining staff will locate,greet u at entrance,and show u the table and bring coffee to you.
-very quick in clean table.
-The Coffee house team also good in service,we do hv our coffe here,the oats homemade cookies is delicious.
-The concierge team is good,the will help u on departure and arrival,Bag also they deliver to room.
-u need to validate the ticket,the concierge team is very helpfull.

Jen penang FO check in/out (ms nacheeya/ms shalini and the superior guys on check out date 19/9, the 3am FO incharge on 17/9,) The greet and service is good even with some technical problems and kind of issue.

Staff not trained to follow up to explain to customers the details of how to enjoy the additional services of art package - Trishaw rides and bus ride to Golden Sands.

I have to ask them for details. Staff is not well versed on how the package works when approached at counter.

My earlier email to hotel was not even answered.

I had a good stay in this hotel and all your staffs were polite and friendly. The front desk were very supportive and noticed it was my birthday and were willing to send a cake for me. That was indeed memorable and as a guest I felt the hotel took to celebrate my birthday. Your restaurant's team too were very good to take of my father who was a vegetarian, need to mention Mr Lingash took the trouble to serve some vegetarian meals for my father.So overall a good memory at Jen for the weekend. Further it is strategically located and very near to most places.

Room and service are excellent. Check in & out and reception at lounge was really great! Some areas of improvement would be the food quality at the lounge. I am referring to the pastry & dim sum served at the lounge which is dry and hard. Not what I would I expect from a 5 star hotel. Also, in general the lounge is quite packed most of the time which leave little room of privacy to have a quite discussion.

Everything was in good working condition in the room. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. I did a mobile check in and check out. My room number was assigned prior and after I checked out, my invoice was emailed to me promptly.

While it would be unfair to compare this property ...

While it would be unfair to compare this property to Shangri-la proper, it has pretty much all the basic amenities of a decent hotel.
The staff have almost the same courteous and attentive behaviour and try to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The Horizon Club desk staff Wan and William was also taking breakfast orders and running in to the kitchen to prepare them. These guys are amazing, they do it all.

The Cafe Jen restaurant served local Malaysian cuisine for breakfast alongside the standard fare of salads, cheese, sausages, and omelettes. We were a little disappointed that there wasn't a selection of local Penang cuisine.

Stayed in a Horizon Club room which seems to be the same as regular rooms in terms of bedding material quality and toiletries were pretty good.

The 3 star rating is the result of an unsecured window which my 2 year old son discovered and the industrial sized vacuum cleaner machine that they turned on in front of my room at 0830 in the morning for a good 10 minutes after I had a very late night attending a wedding. I don't appreciate waking up to the sound of a jet engine.

Will return here as the stay was not bad. I hope they improve their operating procedures in the future.

Good location, near the shopping mall and bus station.
Well equipped room with fast WiFi and easy to access!
Nice lighting control - only one button for minimum illumination if you wake up for the bathroom in the midnight.

Disappointed that I have to repeatedly request for disposal shaving razors. The convenience of the guests is secondary. Too strong emphasis on cost savings. It is very irritating having to endorse the car park ticket each time to exit the car park.

Stayed a week here. Hotel is nice and has all the amenities you need and close to everything you need in George Town. Would have given 4 or 5 stars but we had a problem with the front door attendants. We asked for a taxi and one of the front door men got one of his friends to give us a ride into George Town restaurant. His friend wasn t a taxi and didn t have a meter but I assumed since this was connected to the hotel and we wouldn t get ripped off. We got ripped off. Charging us 3 times more than a taxi meter or grab. So don t trust the front door men to get you a cab. Get a grab or make sure the taxi is metered. This shouldn t happen to hotel guests. So management at the hotel should be aware of this and hopefully correct this so it doesn t happen to another guest. Beyond this my stay was very good.

I stayed with my parents couples week ago. I was surprised the hotel doing great in terms of protecting their staff and hotel guests by providing mask, hand sanitiser & satirising wipe upon our check in. The sanitising dispensers are found everywhere. On top of that thumbs up to the hotel s great precautions and measures against Covid pandemic which is very important. Besides that, the room is cozy and clean with efficient housekeeping service. The location is convenient too. Overall we get more than we paid. Thanks for giving us a safe and pleasant stay in your hotel. It would be my first choice if I visit Penang again. Strongly recommend visitors booking through the hotel s official website so that your request will be properly arranged by the hotel. Keep up the good work to Jen Hotel management and staff.

This was my second time visiting Hotel Jen Penang....

This was my second time visiting Hotel Jen Penang. Both times were such a nice experience. Unfortunately both of my visits were for business meetings so that I could not able to experience much of the hotel's facilities. However, the room is nicely decorated, very modern and current, and all staffs are so welcome, kind and helpful. I would definitely consider this hotel even when I will visit Penang for leisure. The bar on the ground floor provides a nice variety of beverages and snacks. Highly recommend the place!!! Hope to stay at Hotel Jen Penang again :-)

wonderful service staff were friendly and ever so helpful. The team even help celebrate my wife's birthday, it was a great surprise to us!

further more our flight was late and we were given the option to freshen before we leave penang, we were very thankful for that.

will definitely come and stay at Jen Penang again!

perhaps the only feedback is the doormen could be more welcoming to guest. other than that very happy with our stay

Prior to my arrival, I requested for a different type of bed. Upon arrival I was told that non was available but was told that I could changed to my requested bed the next day. I waited but no call came in :(
Secondly, the cut fruit in the firdge was going bad as the fridge was not cold enough :(

This hotel has been several years First the hotel name: shangri-la and second:Traders hotel and now from 2013-2017 become hotel jen last week i visit again overthere the room is already renovation. I asked management said that the lobby want to renovation Hotel jen coperation by shangri la. Before you going up you see my photos have a bike it's cool the hotel. So please visit in this hotel because for me the price agoda and trip-advisor the price is very chip, And have a nice stay.

We made bookings online for 1 twin bed and 1 king sized bed. When 2 of us checked in first, we were given the twin bed and your staff told us they will reserve the room with the king sized bed. However when our colleague arrived later, they said the hotel is experiencing 100% occupancy and do not have any king sized bed available.

The next day, we asked your staffs for umbrella as it was raining. They said that all the umbrellas were already taken. We then walked across the road to the cafe in the rain. As the Cafe was running late in serving our food, we came back in the rain to check-out one of the rooms which check-out time was 1 pm. We then went back to the concierge and asked for umbrella, in case any were returned. A different staff this time went into the store room behind the concierge and brought new umbrellas in stock. We were quite appalled by the earlier staffs who told us there were no umbrellas when there were actually umbrellas in the store room!! These little things, if not dealt with properly, will leave a bad experience for customers. For a 4-star hotel, I expected better.

Rooms are newly renovated, they are brand new and ultra modern. Rooms are 5 . Lobby is under renovation, minor inconvenience. The bar in the hotel is dull and depressing,dont go there unless you want blues. Food is good, breakfast is 4 .the pool is ok 3 . They have gym to workout. table tennis and pool table to have fun.

I had an event in CHA. I found that it was more well lit compared to before. I was told the carpets were actually new but the design of it makes it look like its TOTALLY old and worn out. I think the decision makers need to make better decisions on that carpets.

We went for our short honeymoon getaway, great location for the hotel, nice ambience. No lifts for the carpark to lobby but that was okay as we pack light.
When I booked through Agoda, it indicates with bath tub but when i check in my room there is no bath tub, i called to check and they say is subject to the room we are assigned to. Complimentary care kit with mask and sanitizer but only provide 1 set for each room with 2 pax staying. The thoughts is good but being stingy with another pax or at least 2 masks in 1 pack will look much better. You can do better.

Booking via website supposedly in MYR was not clearly stated. Instead SGD was in BOLD. This misled me to think I was billed in SGD, hence not subject to exchange difference.
The welcome fruit cup for golden circle member is miserable and a joke!
Absolutely no negotiation for slightly later check out.
The deposit charged to my credit card should have been void on the spot and not left pending in my credit account. It is not fair to your guest and leaves an unpleasant feeling and experience.
Overall staff is friendly but SOP needs lots of improvement for a more pleasant stay.

Possibly the worst hotels I've been in Penang. From staffs who were not helpful to insufficient car park for guests. Definitely not recommended. St Giles Wembley opposite the hotel is probably a better choice.

The parking facilities are not user-friendly at all, for a hotel this is the 1st time I come across car park to the hotel lobby uses staircase. I was having a bad left leg problem and I was the driver so how you expect me to drop off myself at the lobby first? The walls of the hotel rooms are too thin until you can hear every single words your neighbor is talking about. The toilet piping are very loud and it is quite disturbing during the night time when you try to sleep. It is very restless for me as every morning I can hear people walking, talking & laughing outside the walkway.

We stayed from Sun to Tue (6 to 9 Oct), 3 of us. But Room Service only gave 2 sets of towels and others stuff. Have to call 3 times in all to requests. The in-house breakfast was very good but lack different style of cooking. Suggestions: 3rd day of breakfast give us a free upgrade to have it at Club Level. The room 1108, we stay should have independent light switch at the coffee table without disturbing those who are sleeping. Prior to my stay, I requested room with the Penang Bridge view, was not met. Possible to give me a free stay with my wife within this year as a service recovery? I will still recommend my friends to stay as it is very conveniently located to 1st Ave Mall, Komtar and Armenian Street.

Youself, William and Eja in the Club Lounge made the stay an excellent time.

We have stayed at Hotel Jen several times and will be back.
Great location for the city and an easy ride from the airport

Well I won t waste time telling u the good things, u already know.

I ll tell u the bad points so that u can improve.

Front desk understaffed, we have to wait too long to get served.

Internet is atrocious, Wifi stays connected but internet is intermittently broken and not fast enough.

Hotel lobby lounge is ridiculously pricey even for a hotel. I just have to walk 1 min to the next building to get my coffee or beer instead.

We're grateful with your hospitality..to the last minute you fulfilled our needs. The food was good and we enjoyed it. Except noodle station (not sure mee kuah or hokien mee). The kuah is too thick. But lack of staff to do the clearance on the table and served drinks.
