Brought my 2017 Tacoma here for 90% of my service ...
Brought my 2017 Tacoma here for 90% of my service needs and these guys seem to be either incompetent or stupid, don t really think there is a difference.
First, truck had and still has wind noice/hissing that is coming from the front windows and door weatherstripping. It took them few months to admit there was a problem and that was after I physically test drove the truck with one of their tech s. Their solution, let s grease the weatherstripping. - I ended up gluing it to the Car, seems better now. However, I don t know if it s a poor design or cheap/poor side windows, there is more wind noice coming from the front of this truck than from the Ridgeline, GM twins and I think 4Runner is not as noisy either.
Second, truck had clunking sound when going over bumps. Few months past, they can t pin-point it and they can never hear the sound, unless I drive it. - they replaced cab mounts and the problem was still not fixed.
Third, on 10/16/2017 I brought the truck in for the same clunking sound complaint and also possibility of an early ball joint failure, as well as howling sound coming from the rear diff at 40-60 mph range, around 55ish mph. They told me that no one test drove the vehicle and it will need to be left overnight. After I refused to leave the car overnight, service manager said that the vehicle had been test driven and problem was not found. - Lier(s). Picked up the truck and sure enough, problem still exists.
Fourth, 10/28/2017-picked up the truck from the dealership, had the same clunking sound as stated above, 9 hours after appointment time - that is working on it for two days, the solution is; the work that they have previously done is shoddy and the bolt for the mount is not tight, greased the cab mount and tighten the bolt. Looks like this place likes to use grease on everything, weatherstripping and now cab mounts. Don t they know that rubber and grease do not mix. Well, it does mix-rubber turns into jello . Also, whomever was test driving this vehicle used it as a Nascar test truck, they managed to lower my Average mpg by over 1 mpg, after I had about 300 miles on that tank of gas. Problem still not fixed.
11/3/2017-Took the truck for the following problems:
* Clunking sound on the front end, different sound when going over bumps - 2 clunking sounds. - they can now hear it too. Hmmm, I wonder what changed.
* Squeaking sound from the rear suspension when the vehicle is rocked back and forth.
* Wind hissing when driving and hvac is on.
* Windows are making the cracking noice when cracked open.
* Windows are vibrating and making noice when driving with them cracked open.
* Howling sound between 40-60mph, from the rear. Could be rear diff.
* Rattle, could be dash and rear view mirror - cold days first drive.
* Engine knocking with all of the fuel choices, when accelerating.
* light came on for service and asked to get it done - not done.
Solution to all of these are:
A. We did no hear/notice anything of such nature.
B. Need to remove the front fender to access the suspension and therefore, visit the toyota body shop - really? Since when you take fenders off for this?
C. Visit the body shop for the front end and then we will work on the back end. - ummm what? Basically, let s fix your teeth before checking the colon .
FYI TO THE DEALERSHIP: You might have better luck B/S ing a soccer mom or a pencil pusher . - even after the toyota rep reached with the post below - still not fixed.
Update: per field tech:
* all of the new Tacoma s have a howling sound coming from the rear end and there is no fix. - if you are ok with driving the vehicle with howling sounds - otherwise, do not buy.
