This summer our son Max (10) spent a week in Frostburg, MD at the Wootten sleep-away camp, then another week at the day camp at Bishop O'Connell. What an absolutely incredible experience for him both weeks! The chance to stay on a real college campus was a bonus, but the camp was the highlight. Excellent organization, outstanding schedule and superb instruction. He loved playing for, and learning from coach Webb! Wouldn't stop talking about everything he did for the 2 1/2 hour ride home! Looking forward to next year already.

The day camp was just as intense and rewarding. Non-stop action and skill development. The attention each kid gets from the talented and dedicated coaches is unparalleled. Special shout-out to coach Aaron Hernandez of the SEC Mississippi State Tournament Championship team! The "report cards" we received after each week were surprisingly in-depth, comprehensive and honest. Both Max and I felt that added a lot to his overall experience.

I just don't think there is any better bang for your hard-earned buck than the Coach Wootten summer basketball camps. Thanks again!

Rarely, would I rate a business prior to experiencing their service. However, this team warrants the positive review.

I reached out with a question, and in less than 24 hours we got a call that addressed our questions.

It was the wife of the current head coach. We found her to be polite, patient and professional. She was highly informative and inciteful. So much so we signed up for two weeks.

I am typically of a mind that customer service is a rogue nation, and this group stuck a "pin" in that belief ballon.....

Our expectations were exceed, and we would recommend this team to anyone that is looking for a professonal and cost effective sports experience for their child.

We have 3 sons. Our sons have been attending for years. No blue chippers here....just boys who enjoy basketball, and handing with their friends. Wooten affords them that in a safe setting, with some degree of freedom. Instruction is sound, competition is sound and their is plenty of ball time and skills training. Strongly recommended.

Coach Wootten's Basketball Camp is by far the best camp I've been associated with. It is great for all skill levels -- from a player who is just starting to learn the game, to one who wants to take their game to the next level. The instructors are knowledgeable and energetic, providing a fun and educational experience for the campers. And while some coaches may just slap their name on a camp and make an appearance or two, Coach Wootten is at camp each and every day, sharing his knowledge of the game with instructors as well as the campers. As a coach, I may have learned as much from Coach Wootten's camp as my son has! Coach Wootten's Basketball Camp definitely gets my stamp of approval.

Awful you play outside in the blistering heat your then go on a sweaty bus with a uptight driver. Then the coach explains how to make a layup and it takes 45 minutes. Literally I felt like I was sitting more than standing up at camp. If you live in Arlington you need to go to Orange Line sports camp they are so much better and more fun they are run by the head coach of Yorktown basketball and their counselors are the best. I have respect for coach Wooten but this camp has big problems. I might sound like an advertisement but I m not I m just a honest 13 year old who had to experience being at this stupid camp.

This review is from a Parent of 2 Campers and a Co...

This review is from a Parent of 2 Campers and a Coach. Combined my children have attended three weeks so far at the Wootten Basketball camp and are going back for two more this summer.

A couple of years ago we started going to the camp with my daughter and since then, 9 of the girls from her High School team have started to come too and are going back again this coming summer.
After experiencing the Wootten Camp and some of the other fundamental camps, the girls only want to come to this camp.

I ve also compared the Wootten Basketball Camp to those other camps with responses from players and coaches from our area too and this one stands out above them all. In my opinion this is the best camp anywhere for what the players get out of it, as far as what they learn, the competition, the facilities, the food and the energy they get out of each day at the camp.

This is a great camp where the players learn from Coach Joe Wootten personally. His attention to the smallest of details continues to impress me.

The camp is run extremely professionally by Joe and Terry Lynn and they work tirelessly with the campers, staff and families to make this one of best experiences your child can have.

Joe is constantly working to teach and mentor the campers from early morning and late into the night. And in the dorm as well as on the courts, he and Terry Lynn are always involved with the campers the entire week.

The staff, and especially the Commissioners, are extremely professional and bring a wide base of knowledge of the game and skills to the campers as well as the fundamentals that are all taught by Coach Joe.

I m very happy with my sons experience at camp too. As a newer player / camper the life lessons he s gained and the friends he s made, gives me a great sense of pride in him not just with direction he is going with his game but also in life. My wife and I immediately noticed improvements to his game but more so the improvements in his confidence both on and off the court.

We live over four hours away from the camp and on the ride to camp we are excited and play games to pass the time. On the ride home though both of my children each talked to me on separate trips back non-stop about their experiences at the Wootten camp and always ask right away to go back each summer.
I hope this review helps if you re considering sending your child / children to this camp.

We've attended both Coach Wootten's day camp and the overnight girls camp. This camp is by far the best fundamental basketball skills camp that exists. We are going on our fourth year of attendance at the camp. Joe Wootten is involved with all the campers everyday and he coaches all of the fundamental instruction directly to the campers everyday and individual coaches review with each camper how to perform the fundamentals. All campers receive a final report card on their progress and a list of all the fundamental drills to work on at home over the winter. Campers who attend this camp will stand out on every team they return to...whether that's rec leagues, travel leagues or AAU competition. Attending every year makes each player even more fundamentally strong as these fundamentals need to be perfected. If you are looking for a camp that really delivers results to your child in a very short period of time, this is the camp for you!!! The fundamental model of play hasn't changed for 50 years, and this system is perfected to get results for each and every player.

Coach Wootten's Basketball Camp is one the premier camps in the entire United States. Tucked into the mountains of Maryland, it is a fantastic place to spend a week or more each summer. Coach Wootten is extremely hands-on with both the campers and the coaches, and makes it a tremendous learning experience for everyone involved. The camaraderie of the coaches, and the hospitality of the staff makes this camp a home away from home. Campers get a chance to learn life lessons, responsibility, and a whole lot of basketball in their time at Coach Wootten's Basketball Camp. This camp creates memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

My daughter Allie attended Coach Wootten's camp for 3 years and also coached for 1 year. She received the BEST training in basketball fundamentals and at the same time had fun doing it. I wholeheartedly recommend this camp and exclusively recommend it to my players at my school. The individual attention and life messages taught are life-changing. This camp stays with you forever. I have also coached at this camp and seen first hand how the culture here makes you feel a part of a family and that what we do is bigger than the week!!!

Extremely disappointing. I was looking for a summer basketball camp where my sons could improve their basketball skills in a fun but challenging environment. I was told they evaluated the camper's skills prior to developing the teams. However, each son had a vastly different experience with one son winning every game by a wide margin and the other son losing each game. We have attended other basketball camps where the teams were more balanced in terms of talent or if one particular team was found to be unbalanced such that it was losing every game, the camp would adjust the teams slightly. That was not our experience with this camp even when we brought this to the attention of the camp director. As a result, what was originally planned as an opportunity to advance in skills and develop a greater love for the game became a discouraging, dismal experience. There are a lot of great basketball camps out there but in our opinion, this isn't one of them. We will not be attending in future years.

When I started attending this camp, I truly did no...

When I started attending this camp, I truly did not know what to expect. My 13-year-old brain was running through all the possibilities of what camp could be like. I can tell you now that this camp exceeded anything I could have imagined it would have been. The most important thing is that they not only teach basketball but they incorporate life lessons into all aspects of the sport.

The best aspect of this camp is, hands down, the coaching staff. They are interested in getting to know you and seeing you improve as a player. They tell you what you need to know and provided constructive criticism without being too harsh about it. I felt that every single coach I had at this camp cared for me as both a player and a person.

Another of the best aspects of this camp is that they do give the campers a certain level of independence. When you are hanging out with your friends in the gym, dining areas, or the dorms you feel that you can be yourself. However, you feel that you are never too far away from any staff member.

On top of this, the campers are also afforded a fair amount of free time to use however they want to. You can either work on your game or hang out with your friends from home or the ones you will meet at camp.

One of the best ways that they keep camp interesting throughout the week is that Coach Wootten incorporates skits into his lessons that are both truthful and fun for the camper. These skits show you the good and bad extremes of a situation (how to meet someone and work ethic).

I know one thing is for certain: I would not have the love of basketball that I do today without my experiences at Coach Wootten s Basketball Camp. I almost dare to say that I would not be where I am today without the lessons learned at this camp. Also, I can t thank my parents enough for giving me the opportunity to come to this camp year after year. Whenever people ask me what basketball camp they should go to I always put Coach Woottens at the top of the list!

The Coach Wootten Basketball Camp is simple "THE BEST" sports experience my 14 and 10 year old sons have ever experienced. Last summer was their first stay at the overnight camp, and it has now become the most anticipated part of our 2017 summer plans.

LBA players have been attending this camp since our inception. The skills taught align directly with our core values of developing a complete player both on and off the court. They teach fundamentals both in a competitive and fun environment. Our players have made memories that will last a lifetime. They have made connections and friends at the camp that span the country. It has been great showing up at a tournament in Jersey, or Pennsylvania and former Wootten Camp buddy. Cannot say enough about this camp. It is something every player should experience.

Coach Wootten's Basketball Camp is THE BEST! I've been working the camp for many years now & started taking my oldest son out there 3 summers ago. It's been the #1 highlight of his past 3 summers & he will not even consider me taking him to a different camp. I keep asking him if he'd like me to take him out to Notre Dame or UNC (his favorite team) to try their camps, but he loves Coach Wootten's Camp so much & quickly tells me he just wants to go back there again each summer. As a basketball coach, I know it's hands down the best teaching camp there is so I'm more than happy to keep bringing Jackson back to Coach Wootten's camp each summer! My twin boys are almost old enough to attend & can't wait because of hearing all the great camp stories they've heard from their older brother! Great people, Great coaches, Great basketball....GREAT CAMP!!! If you want your son / daughter to learn the game better & love the game more, send them to Coach Wootten's Basketball Camp....You will not be disappointed!

I can't say enough great things about this camp. My experience at the girls camp is very special to me because I started as a camper (at the first girls week camp) and I enjoyed it so much that I've come back every year after to be a coach. As a camper, this was the best camp I had been to because of its focus on fundamentals and competitive nature. I improved immensely as a player. You are assigned a team for the week and get one-on-one attention from coaches and lessons taught right from Joe Wootten - not many other camps are like that. I think very highly of the camp and keep coming back as a coach because of the players, amazing coaches, and the values of the camp. They not only teach you basketball, but life lessons that both players and coaches take away. It will be the best camp of the summer for your kid!!

Kids started here in 3rd or 4th grade and ended as referees and counselors as jobs in college. Boys are provided a great opportunity to grow, learn skills not only related to athletics but also mind and spirit. Highly recommend for any age.

My son has attended the camp for the last three years and attending was the highlight of his summer vacations. He is now 13 and I asked him what he wanted to do this summer and he immediately said he wanted to go to the Joe Wootten overnight camp. Coach Wootten and his staff do an excellent job of of combining learning, competing and fun. Every day the boys play three games a day and also have a full schedule of one-on-one tournaments, shooting contests, three-on-three and other fun contests. I highly recommend this camp for any boy who wants to improve his basketball skills while making new friends and competing at high level.

I believe that Coach Wooten's Basketball Camp is a must for players of all levels. It is one of the few teaching camps left in the country that actually works with players to improve fundamentals. I have had three of my own children attend camp and each summer they come home ready to work harder on their game and excited about the experience. Everyone in and around the Wooten Camp is all about your experience and getting your player to learn about life and basketball.
