Great organization with dedicated staff who truly care about their clients.

i walked in there doors as a family (with a husband) a year later i called as a victim of domestic violence (today makes 9 days i been homeless do to a abusive man i once called my husband and they cant assist me...im most likely going to end back up at my husbands door step since i have nowhere to go with my children..its sad they will wait to see a women end up dead on the news and the be like wow WHY SHE NEVER SEEKED HELP OR TALKED ABOUT IT MAYBE BECAUSE I WAS SCARED TO BE JUDGED . OR OVER LOOKED AT feel like i shouldnt have evened called and reported now because now they kno what i was really going thru when i got placed as a family and now to hear what really was going on behind closed doors and Samaritan house paying me no mind i feel ashamed embarresed thats why alot of people dont like talking about domestic violence WHAT SO EVER I THINK THE BEST THING FOR WOMEN TO DO IS KEEP IT IN BECAUSE ALL THATS GOING TO HAPPEN IS U GETTING JUDGED AND MAYBE CLOWNED ABOUT IT

This place still takes the big-backed TV's for donation!! Goes to a great cause...not a landfill! Thank you!!!!!

Was able to drop off a bunch of Linens shades curtains and knowing that they're going to go directly to the women that we need to help .

My experince with them has been bad .they got me an my sister a place that they knew we could not afford . An brung us beds with infested bed bugs in them . When we call for help they tell us theres nothing we can do . For one i thought yall move homeless people to AFORDABLE houseing instead yall put people in worse situations then they came to you with . One of the workers there had a relationship with the property manager an that was her main goal is to put us with her Regardless on how many cheaper options there was . This is not exceptable we spoke to a manager an the result of that is nothing

They have a lot a help and caring to give. Noone looks down on you for being in a situation that you needed help to get away from. They'll help with food, jobs, school, housing, childcare and many more.

This place may be helpful once you're in as far as shelter, food, toiletries etc. But I've seen with my own 2 eyes how certain workers, one in particular, named April Crailer. Of which I'm now seeing as well as very surprised, that the witch with a capital B is still there. Of anything its HER evil, manipulative, lying, scheming, and conniving ghetto, wannabe bourgie, exorcism needing ase. Who should have been the main one battered black and blue and given her walking papers from this place years ago. Because she, as well as others, would abuse their positions by playing favourites with the clients they like, while targeting out the clients that they don't like by instigating and causing dissension. Lying on them in order to mess up the little bit of livelihoods that they do have. All of which from what I'm seeing has not changed a bit.

What makes it worse is that the director, sanctifies it by not even wanting to hear what that client has to say when appealing the decisions. Meanwhile, there's been females who sneaks guys in through their windows at night, yet miraculously no consequences, no evictions. The new cars that are donated, is given to the favoured ones, most of which already have cars. All while the women who have no cars are still walking and will more than likely leave there still on foot, and without a car. Now it's been about 12 years now, so hopefully certain ones are no longer there and better rules and management. My hope is that by now the ones who run this place now realize that this IS a shelter for homeless and battered women. Not Americas Top Model, where clients have to fear being "eliminated" for not being favoured or liked enough.

Help with shelter but nothing else. Experience was horrible Staff plays favorites and we're rude and not caring or empathetic at all. Very unprofessional especially Nicole and April and Lisa they shouldn't be in a position when dealing with sexually and physically abused women. Rosalind was a life saver very caring and empathetic.
I wouldn't recommend this place to any women with children in need. They talk a good game but show you nothing.

Great non-profit organization helping battered women.

The people who work here are very unprofessional. A worker came representing a client came to court and blurted out obscenities and became irate. My wife claimed she was a victim of abuse and the samaritan house took her in. We go to court and the judge finds my wife to be the abuser in the home. Gave me custody of the children. Took her into custody for violating a protective order. Samaritan house worker goes off on me. This worker doesn't know me and only had one side of the story. Very unprofessional worker. Plus they still giving this spouse abuser and child abuser shelter for free. Only in America.

I was reading over the reviews and I noticed that all the positive reviews gained responses from the owner/Manager of the facility. However I didn t see where anyone cared about the not so pleasing experiences. And quite frankly the families and people that had the unpleasent experiences, and not so good reviews, should have been reached out to as well, in hopes of correcting the issues! I also am in need of shelter, and I ve been a victim of DV, and it s not pretty! I had to pick a star in order to leave my comment, the one-star is in no way my opinion of the facility.

They will help as long as you want to help yourself. I never felt judged. Very down to earth staff!

Great place with great people who would love to help!

Kicked me out when I couldnt get a job in the time frame they expected me to, suggest to anyone to find a different housing to go to

I have been dropping off donations here for the last year. The volunteers have always been wonderful, but today when I dropped off, Edward helped me and asked if I ever got to see what they did with the donations. I said no, he took the time to show me around and walked me through the donation process while explaining to me who they help and the assistance they offer. It was nice to get a visual of the whole process and I was really impressed with how they had all the rooms laid out. I look forward to donating in the future and was very happy to have met Edward.

I got alot of important information on how the volunteers, work and how to work with clients. How to understand ones needs,by working with children's. I believe by listening to the clients and let them know am here to help them.l learn how to share information when time come.

Although they have a store to purchase items and support themselves. They do take donations for families trying to start over after domestic violence. They do need items for everyday use

Wonderful people, amazing organization!! They help so many people and change so many lives for the better! They are all angels!!!

In August, I had the worst experience of my life involving domestic abuse. I turned to the police for help but continued to find myself getting screwed over by the system. I felt helpless and defeated. I had upcoming court dates and couldn t afford an attorney. I had suffered severe anxiety and PTSD but couldn t afford to go to counseling. A friend recommended contacting The Samaritan House to see if I qualified for assistance. This was the first time through my experience where I felt like someone cared. The rep who helped me really showed me compassion and helped me get the resources I needed for free legal aid and free counseling. I m sadden I was ever a person who needed assistance from a domestic abuse program but wow am I beyond grateful they were there.

Great charity. Bring your good used children's items to their Virginia Beach office and they will use them, unlike most that automatically sell.

Wonderful place that helps people in times of need and had great workers. Definitely a place to consider when getting donations ready.

Helpful staff had to drop off some clothes and I was only there for maybe 10 min no more

I dropped off large boxes of clothing that were to heavy for me to pick up. Three ladies came out with a cart and unloaded the boxes for me. Greatly appreciated the help.

When I saw the warning signs that could end my life, I sought for help at Samaritan House. They took care of my children and I. We had nothing else except the clothes we were wearing and the few things we could throw into trash bags when we ran away. Because of them, I was able to gather all my courage to never look back and keep moving forward.

It's been six years, but to this day my children and I are still healing. It's a process, but I am safe and happy now. I owe to Samaritan House the beautiful life I have now. For that, I am forever grateful.

This organization helps people change their own lives while providing assistance and support.

This is what their website states: "no victim of violence facing immediate danger in Virginia Beach is ever turned away from emergency housing."

I called and explained my situation....I'm in a house with someone who threatened to shoot me just days ago and I'm frantically trying to get out.

But they said they have "nothing available" and can only take my information.....

I am not sure how to get help around here. I think there is a front of support and help so people don't have to think about the terrible things a lot of us are dealing with. I sure don't know how to tap into any of these alleged resources.

This place was way too forceful about me pressing charges and getting examined. I think because I felt extremely uncomfortable and scared to do any of that, I was shut out of any real help.

People like to fein outrage at sexual assaults, but the reality is they don't want to help. People don't want to get involved to REALLY do anything.

Another phony do gooder organization doing what looks good from the outside. A way for people to feel like they are being helpful citizens. It's for these types of people only, not the VICTIMS. I call BS.

Our voices are not silenced & it takes much more than what is seen about a person to come forth and take responsibility thru communication tools that shall not be used to control or harm another. Anyone can physically fight & learn to emotionally & psychologically war yet the end of the day never comes because their abides a time that has been given that all lay down together and rise as one. May our families, both male and women, boys and girls know that a strength in an untouched childish pure heart of communication is a more powerful flesh than any flesh of domestic violence. And it's blood is tainted with life and love that flows through all our veins.

If I could give no stars I would. The people that work there are very rude in trying to get a place for my family and I and I was talking to them and the guy gave me and attitude would not recommend if you don't want to deal with people who have attitude
