The old Ruby Skye, semi renovated! It no longer smells like wet carpet upstairs anymore! The tables formerly at the bottom (underneath the balcony) has been converted to a bar! There's a mini bar towards the front of the room. There's spacious seating (where tables might go?) Near the mini bar. Layout just makes more sense! Still retains the old theater decor where it counts--the backlit faces that line the top of the theater is still there! When I went last weekend, 10/19, for Black Madonna and Honey Dijon, the coat check ($2) was located in the bowling alley downstairs--interesting! The DJ setup was located just below the stage, which felt strange, but allowed for people to dance on the stage behind the DJ--fun! All employees encountered were very pleasant and attentive. All round a good experience!

This is a really great venue. You buy tickets here, you show up, people treat you exactly like you'd like to be treated, and you see your show. It's intimate without being too tiny, and you can have a bunch of fun without feeling like you're disturbing anyone. I want to tell people not to come to this venue so it's a better experience for me, but I'll be honest and welcome all comers to a really fun time. I would recommend. Come attend for a really fun show.

Great auditorium for small scale concerts/events. The balcony provides a great view of the stage and entry is quick and streamlined but exit can get pretty crowded especially when everyone is leaving at once. Bar is awesome too.

I just love this place. Just wish is wasn't so far from home. I cover many acts in the Bay Area in the music scene and this is a real gem. Great acts come through it's back doors and a lot of happy fans come and go through the front. Bigger acts will open the balcony, maximizing it's 1,000 person cap. The second floor includes a second bar and typically a VIP area near the stage.
Tucked in within the borders of Union Square it's centrally located in downtown, with plenty of restaurants, bars, shopping, and ample transportation solutions. A lot of wonderful acts come through this historical venue so don't hesitate when they do. And don't be afraid to try something new! Go see live music even when you don't know who they are. They may just be your next fave-o, right?!!

Saw Summer Cannibals and Cursive here, they were awesome. August hall is much cleaner and better thought out than Ruby Sky was, and seems better suited for live band concerts than clubby, sweaty EDM DJ events.

Security was terrible they were rude and man handled me trying to push me out the door . The reason was being this venue does not let anyone under 21 out and renter. I asked someone if I could they said yes without telling me I needed to be 21 so it was the mistake of an employee ! And they wouldn t let me back and and tried to shove me out the door and told them to stop for a minuet since my sister was still inside by herself they told me it wasn t there problem and I needed to still leave or they would call the cops I will never return to this venue again ! I will say later I called the security company and they said all I needed to go was speak to the manager of the venue and he may be able to let me back in but the security people neglected to let me know this information . Running a business mean giving someone solutions not excuses ! P.S reason for going outside was because my feet hurt and needed to change my shoes

I came here for a private party. They had a coat check right next to the entrance. There was very little seating and pretty much standing room only. There's a bar downstairs as well as upstairs.
The stage was set up with a band, but we couldn't see much because we were too far back on the second floor.

I purchased a VIP ticket for an event because there were no regular tickets left, but I really wanted to see the DJ. The VIP ticket promised special entrance line, but when I went there there was no line. I asked twice the staff manning the line where the VIP line was, and both times they said there was no VIP line and I have to wait in the regular line.

Since they failed to deliver on any of the promised VIP benefits, I later kindly asked them to refund the difference between a regular & VIP ticket, since that seemed reasonable. They blamed me for any confusion and refused to refund the difference.

August Hall is discriminatory towards DACA recipients and would not allow my partner and I into the Romare show tonight when my partner showed his federally issued ID. We were kicked out of the venue and offered no solution when this occurred. We have never had this happen anywhere else and this is a practice August Hall chooses to have. We want this to change someone has to go through this again. Please ask August Hall to change their discriminatory and xenophobic practices so this never happens again.

Smallish stage with an open floor in front. A few bench along the side walls that were not reserved the night I was there. There's a mezzanine area above that has some benches along the side but it was closed for the show I went to so I didn't see details.

Really nice, classic location for shows and concerts. Lovely ornaments on the walls and ceilings. Sound was always great. The only downside are the drink prices, I paid $9 for a cup of Pilsner.

On the night I came here, the crowd was young and flashy, shouting to each other, taking videos of the performance and selfies of their friends. That particular night hosted two well-known house music DJs, but the venue is probably only appropriate for pop music, with bright lighting, a weak sound system, and overall highschool-ish vibe. To be honest, those features make it a poor venue for any music. Just avoid.

Great small concert venue in a classic building. Drinks are big city club prices (Cheapest thing was bottled water at $5) Finger food from next door is surprisingly affordable. $14 for a decent pizza. Big open floor with balcony around 3/4 of room. 3 lane bowling alley in basement. Separate entrance. Looking forward to attending future events here.

Venue was awesome! There was no barricade at the concert that I attended here which is rare now. The only downside was that they had the AC cranked up and there are a ton of vents right under the stage. This was probably the only time that I've been cold at a concert.

I've seen A.C.E at August Hall twice. They are the most incredible dancers and amazing singers. Both times my view of the stage to watch A.C.E's choreography was great. Also the sound was perfect, so you could hear their beautiful harmonies and details of their raps. I'd see anyone at this venue. Good job.

Nice Hall....only issue was my daughter had VIP and the artist's website states a parent is allowed to accompany the child under 14, without a VIP ticket and the people at the venue wouldnt let me go with her!

Very intimate concert venue! Great view from the general admission floor and balcony. There's only a few benches in the balcony and downstairs for seating, but it's first-come, first-served. Get to the venue about half an hour before doors open if you want your choice of seat or want to stand right by the stage!
I forgot what it was called, but sometimes they have early entry before doors open if you go to the restaurant/bowling alley next door as well. Also nice location in downtown San Francisco where you can explore many other attractions if you're there all day.

Saw 'White Lies' here for an evening concert. The door staff was well informed and friendly, and they made waiting outside a breeze.
As soon as you enter the venue you can tell this place is unlike anywhere else. The classic aesthetic they have clashed in a beautiful way with the modern synth rock show i was watching.

The founders of this place did a good thing by coming together and forming August Hall. Will deffinately check out another show here!
