Took my friend there for a cheese and prosecco afternoon as a birthday treat and was very disappointed that they did not have gluten free crackers although they advertise gluten free food. The cheese was lovely and the service was good but but the lack of crackers spoiled what should have been a lovely treat for her.
Stayed for two nights at Royal Highland Hotel, which proved to be a very pleasant experience. Everything about our stay met with all our expectations. Will certainly be returning and would recommend this establishment without hesitation.
How can a building from the outside look so beautiful..... but as soon as you step into your room you just want to leave!!!!We booked a royal room....as you can see from my pictures how dated and worn out the room is....we were drawn into thinking this would be an ok room, when we questioned Fiona about the state of this horrible room and could I speak to the manager... she told me she was the duty manager and she let me have a look at another 3 rooms which are also similar...it was obviously by her rude attitude she gets this all the time and just can t be bothered. And before you ask yourself....it can t be that bad!! trust me I ve had to stay in some rough places... but this beats them hands down!!! Yes it is....
I spent 2 nights at the Royal Highland Hotel and enjoyed the stay very much. Reception and housekeeping staff all friendly and helpful. Dining room and bar staff all very pleasant. Nice room. Good breakfast. Very good bar and restaurant. Excellent location next to train station in the heart of Inverness. I'd recommend the hotel to a friend and I'd stay there again if I ever visit Inverness.
Very old elegant Scottish hotel from 1850's.. still has grand old vaulted ceilings.. served really nice afternoon tea.. rooms in need of modernisation.. overall at nice location next to Inverness station.. although pricey
Perfectly located hotel with style. We have eaten and slept with pleasure. There are some minor irregularities and some reception staff could be a bit friendlier, but as a whole are positive. We have also eaten well, very well cared for and good taste at very reasonable prices.
The hotel is ideally situated, adjacent to the train and bus stations and a large shopping mall. My second-floor room at the rear of the building was clean and tastefully decorated, and the en suite bathroom was great. However ... the wardrobe was tiny, with only 4 clothes hangers, and as most of the space was already occupied by an ironing board, iron and trouser press, there was very little actual 'hanging' space. The bed was extremely comfortable and I had a good night's sleep. But I was awakened VERY early the next morning by the alarming crashing of an enormous quantity of glass below my window .. it sounded like a glass avalanche, and it was repeated several times. I should have stipulated a quiet room when booking! The buffet-style breakfast was good with an excellent range of hot and cold items. Lunch-time and evening meals were also good, but beware, because the portions are generous. The staff were welcoming and helpful.
Handy location and you get what you pay for. The buffet breakfast was decent with some Gluten Free options. Our room was warm (the heating worked) and clean, albeit a little worn (peeling paint and cracked tile). We didn t go on holiday to stay in a hotel, but the cosy lounge chairs and drink coupons kept us in on a few rainy nights.
Nice large rooms. The restaurant's food is excellent. Heads up book a reservation if you want to eat there. Also a small warning about parking. When they say limited space they mean it. But there is parking about three blocks away. Around about a ten minute walk. All in all I would highly recommend the place.
Some stunning period features give the hotel the wow factor when you walk in. Our clean and cosy room was at the rear of the hotel and only spoilt by the refuse collection at 6 am. Good breakfast and restaurant also good.
Friendly and helpful staff...reception, restuarant, breakfast and room cleaning. Victorian elegance with modern facilities. Quality food in the restaurant and breakfast room. Only negative was the the room...bit small and very warm. Double room with space for only one chair.
We are two couples of friends who make a roadtrip in Scotland. We had the good (rather bad) stopping at Inverness in this hotel to visit the lochness and very badly taken.
The hotel itself is very pretty from the outside (limited parking but it was announced) the lobby is also very nice and after that is the disappointment.
Staff really not nice, we had 2 rooms the same and one was normal size the other was a closet . The hotel is very dated, the paintings are peeling off, impossible to get warm water it was boiling (answer from the hotel: You wash yourself at the same time that everyone is normal.) the sink it was almost impossible to rinse his toothbrush so the spray is weak.
Cocktails are expensive and undrinkable. Filled with plenty of ice cubes.
In short, avoid at all costs. This hotel only has Royal's name.
Beautiful hotel still in its 19th century juice. Right next to the station but you are not disturbed by trains. Very well located in the city center. Excellent breakfast on the other hand the corridors are noisy at night. We were woken up by people talking and doors slamming.
Lovely place, but the service was slow and somewhat grudgingly carried out. The waitress also professed to never have heard of the Coffee Mocha offer which appeared on a large poster just outside the entrance. Pity!
Pictures make it look more elegant than it actually is. 1st room checked into was too small, but they had a bigger room with a bigger bed they moved us to (for a fee)
Old fashion hotel This hotel of another age next to the inverness train station has the charm of an old English woman. Be careful with the shock. Scottish carpet in the lobby then carpet all over the hallways, the elevator .. everywhere ... painting defraichies .. large paintings in the rooms pet stuffs in the hall ... impossible to open the windows to air ... room small even for a couple ... conclusion to avoid going your way
Beautiful old hotel with the most amazing breakfast selection ever. Could do with refurb here and there but staff were great, friendly and efficient. Wasn't particularly impressed with the Ash restaurant but would definitely return, if only to pig out at breakfast!
Massive room, helpful staff, beautiful facilities. 8 parking spaces for what appears to be 70 out so rooms, though, so be prepared to park elsewhere (there's a cheap multi level car park a few blocks away).
Very convenient for the station and town centre. Breakfast was reasonably good. Good selection. Decor in the hotel is lovely and afternoon tea was great. Room small but adequate. Restaurant very disappointing. Food was stodgy and waiters overbearing. Good value for money, but if you're looking for a more memorable stay, go somewhere else
Great but in some rooms the windows are in a fixed position closed with an open gap between the two parts that compose it (lower and upper) and can not be maneuvered. Otherwise the service has been very good
Check in was activated very easily and pleasantly, on viewing the room and thinking it was on the small side we asked if they had any larger ones to which the answer was yes. Our new room was tip top. It was well serviced the second day. Dinner at night was ok depending on the meal that was chosen, we were in a group of 6. When the waiter brought the meals he had no idea what he was holding which did not inspire confidence. My creamed haggis was more cream than haggis, tattoos and neeps. The bar was appalling, the service was exceptionally slow, we waited at the bar for a good 10mins before it was recognised that we were at the bar and a further 10mins before we were served. The bar was not busy in fact we were the only ones at the bar!! It was shocking!!
Visited for a drink in the bar when out Christmas shopping. Had to wait quite a while before staff acknowledged we were waiting to be served despite it being quite quiet. Not much atmosphere in the bar area. Prime location next to train station.
Been staying at The Royal Highland hotel since it was The Station hotel. Comfortable, welcoming and ideally situated. Looking forward to the next visit.
Despite the history behind it I was disappointed. The bathrooms in reception and the rooms were clean but surprisingly had no toilet brushes. There was also no hooks or shelves un the bathroom which would have been useful.
The decor of the rooms was dark and dated. The food also wasn't very great at breakfast and lunch I had on arrival was quite bland. The positive thing was the location as it is right next to Inverness train station.
Had a wonderful weekend stay in hotel, pleasant staff at reception desk, room clean and warm, nice big tv, buffet breakfast best in town, been going to same hotel last 3 years, restaurant supervisor and waitresses do brilliant work, friendly and chatty. Hotel has charm and you alays chat to each other in main lounge. Always look forward to going back
Very well positioned hotel attached to the train station and very central for the town centre. Most staff seemed a bit bored, non unfriendly, but just tired and fed up looking. The restaurant also used to have great food and poor service, but this time we visited unfortunately it had slightly overcooked, dried out food and poor service. There are so many great restaurants and bars who serve good food so close to this hotel, they really need to up their game.
We stayed for 2 nights. The hotel is lovely and brilliant service. The onsite restaurant had the best strawberry shortcake sundae i have ever tasted. Would definately go back.
I ordered a twin room so that I could have a large bed (I'm over six foot tall). When I arrived I was given a single room, which had a single bed where half my legs hung over the end. I was told some of the rooms became unavailable due to flooding, however nobody told.me this until I went down to query the room I was given. I could not stay there the night, so I left. I still haven't received a refund from them for not being able to provide me with the room I booked. Terrible, terrible service.
Like a previous prospective customer, try to phone them and you get a loop which constantly asks for four options. Select any one and you get four options, the same four options, and if you select an option to speak to someone you get an American voice telling you that voicemail has been deleted on this option and then the line goes dead! I was trying to book dinner for 30 to 40 people and I am sure many of them would have booked to stay for two nights. What a shambles!
Very rude staff and service at the restaurant of the hotel. Also reception not so good, the courtesy is not their affair. Not worth the stars it has At this price you can find better and equally comfortable
Hotel was probably great back in the day but the overall condition of public areas and rooms very tired and shabby shouldn't be sold in this state and condition not reflected in the price spent previous night at the Hilton in Glasgow for the exact same price and it was superb
- unfriendly reception at the front desk. No free parking available. - Fire alarm in the morning from 07:00 in 10 - 15 minutes intervals there is no eye dry. Comment when checking out when referring to the fire alarms: shrug shoulders and snippy answers. NO WORD OF SORRY !!! An impudence for a hotel with these prices. - Positive is the location of the hotel and the breakfast buffet. I had enough time after I was whistled out of bed at seven. For me it is clear this hotel I would recommend to anyone.
I'm afraid we were disappointed with this hotel. Firstly only 8 parking spaces, we had to park in a nearby mall car park. The WiFi was difficult to connect to, and eventually stopped altogether. No restaurant, breakfast was in a function room and very poor choice. Room was comfy enough but needed redecorating. Will not be going back
Pleasant short stay, very convenient to the train and close walk to all kinds of shops. Despite the proximity, I did not hear the trains at all (none). The staff were kind and went out of their way to help when we had a little problem with a medicine.
Bit disappointed. Bit tired decor albeit am aware its a really old. Breakfast was continental as that was due to the deal but tge selection of cheese and meats... No meats and a basket of baby bel didn't really hit the mark. Room was large and clean
Wonderful luxury, spacious (bath) rooms. Clean, well maintained. Creaking floor. No problems with the station next door. We were above the kitchen, which is a bit less because of the smell. Operation is helpful.
It must have been a very luxurious hotel once. This is indicated by the decor and finishes. Unfortunately, it "once" passed with a light hand 40+ years ago and since then the hotel has deteriorated a bit. Undoubtedly, it has its charm and you can easily stop here. It's clean and tidy, although a few small repairs here and there could be of use. It's very ok for one night.
Meal was set for 7/30we got served at9pm then meal was disgusting had to move out of bar at 11pm and wait for night porter to serve us and the staff need a course in people manners
Went for afternoon tea ssat 2nd of april was up on a family visit very dissapointed stale bread no butter not enough room at tables for our large party ham on bread tasteless cakes an scones were very dry and burnt scones not only myself was disappointed in our visit cream was warm no teaspoons provided and amout provided was not enough went away hungry will not visit again and would never recommend to anyone
