This is a classy/chic restaurant that you can either dress to the T or go semi casual because of the ambience. The cocktails are amazing, I tried 5 of the 8 that were on the drinks menu. The prices for the food is very reasonable however, I found the portions to be quite small overall but depending on what you ordered. It can be really small, so small that with some of the items I was confused as to what I ordered because it wasn't visible. Not visible in the sense where it was covered with other items in the plate.
Really nice food. We had the 6 course menu that offers a great variety. Unfortunately, our waiter was not too competent, letting us repeatedly wait 10-15 minutes for simple orders like a glass of beer, or forgetting to open a bottle of wine he brought to the table.
What an AMAZING restaurant. I chose to come here with a company event and we all had such a great time and the food is sublime!
Really special food. It's more an experience what is possible with food than actually eating it. But: the dishes are awesome and very tasty and you'll love it.
Prices per dish are around 15 without the very expensive ones.
This is definitely a 5-star restaurant. Bear in mind the management team is not doing a great job organizing the staff requirements for the (high) demand they get.
Having said this, the food is totally worth the wait, the menu is accurately priced, the staff is very friendly (although highly busy) and helpful. Me and my wife ordered one starter, 5 dishes, and dessert. Amazing food! Great job, totally recommended.
Was again like for corona. Fortunately, it did not matter and it is again enjoying the dished pearls
What can I say, expecting to hate it but ended up loving the service if a bit too FORMAL for me, not enough personality in the servers I had - too French and stoic.
The food was a tad hit & miss considering how much you spend per head but would return and try the evening.
Ok. So I went back here after two years. But this time they said they couldn't seat 3 people, which is kind of sad because I remember the food being very good.
Tasty, quality dishes. Portions are small so you can order two per person and share, although its pricey. Wine options by the glass are good. Service is good when they are speaking to you, but it is difficult to get their attention. Staff is spread thin.
- Location was good
- Food was cold
- poor quality of the meat (tough)
- Waiters don't even have basic training on how to pour wine
- last but not least, the waiter cut the glass of expensive wine into the broken pieces while clearing away
Conclusion: no Michelin star restaurant
In other words: once and never again.
Super satisfied again. One of the best restaurants in the Netherlands
Great food and helped all evening. Never felt like we were waiting long for our food and before the glasses were empty they were refilled from our bottle of wine. Definitely worth repeating, whatever we are going to do!
Very good hearty meal and on all the sinter and beer
We had lunch on the terrace. Was delicious. Food is good, service is pleasant. Had been before. Food is really good, but bring your filled wallet
Way too expensive for what you got and no air con inside
Well decorated dishes but not the taste you would expect from a Michelin star restaurant. Disappointing overall - we ve tried most of the fish dishes and none was incredible. Lunch around 70eur pp.
Very tasty food, special dishes, excellent service, good interior design
I had a dinner with another 2 friends there once. I myself arrived the restaurant first and was led to a table. The table was quite small that with all the wine glasses, champagne glasses, water glasses and all sorts of seasoning bottles, there won't much space for food. I asked a waitress politely if she could change a bigger tables for the 3 of us. Out of expectation, she showed me of her impatience that she said they used to arrange that size of table for guests of a group of three. I had a quite unpleasant feeling as she was that rude which I felt I was discriminated and offended in some ways. That might because my spoken English is not good enough or maybe I am an Asian. She had made me feel that I was not respected just because of my colour. When my 2 friends (they are white people) came afterwards, the waitress changed her attitude and way of how she spoke to us immediately. I was ashamed of her!
Excellent food. Toilets with witty sound clips from the past.
It is a pity that the service does not know what is what in terms of food.
The food was delicious and the service was top notch.
Consistently excellent food, and truly astoundingly good service. An absolute delight.
Nicely furnished, spacious, high-end business. Good card concept. Delicious dishes. Young, hospitable service.
Fantastic formula, delicious food, very pleasant atmosphere and friendly attentive service! Top!
We dined here with friends in April 2016, and had a bunch of shared plates. The food was really nice, appropriate sized plates, good wait staff and a good wine list. We would happily return.
Staff were very friendly but inexperienced, managed to mess up our reservation
Price / quality ratio is very good. The food is special and the portions are sufficient. The reason I go for an average rating is the messy service / service. A small tip: I recommend asking a little more often if everything is good and if we want to drink something. The restaurant is definitely worth a try for everyone.
Very relaxed experience. We are always warmly welcomed. Terrace in the summer definitely recommended, we will be happy to have lunch. Experience attentive and enthusiastic service. Overall experience super. Food is often just a bit disappointing, you keep too high expectations by the star. Food is certainly good, but some dishes do not always taste as perfect.
What a wonderful restaurant. Of course, the Michelin star indicates that it is good quality, but then again, it must taste. And it does! Really delicious dishes, delicious wines and top service.
The card offers something for everyone. Meat fish, vegetarian. Really anything and everything is equally tasty. For example, we had omelette, mussels, spare ribs, brill, etc. The prices are really not bad. You can make it as expensive as you want.
The entire atmosphere that prevails is super cozy and comfortable. Very casual and open. No fuss, just a cozy and tasty restaurant.
An absolute must.
Came here last week (13 Feb) for a pre-Valentine's Day lunch. The bread and whipped butter is really good. I started with the oysters, and my partner with the soy shrimps. Mine were top notch, his were a very big portion for a pre-course appetiser.
I had the scallop tatare, which was creamy and fresh and just gorgeous! He had the king crab with potato puree. It was warming and smooth, and moreish. next dish was the soft shell crab with dim sum, and for him the spare ribs. Oh, those ribs! Absolute start of the show! After that the surprise egg. So cute, soooooo good! And for him the cheese platter.
Although small portions, we had expected to order more. but it wasn't necessary. Left feeling very satiated, and a bit pampered by the a bit cocky, and sometimes very funny, and always super cool wait staff.
Will definitely go here again!
we been there a few times and always had a good time there, tasty food creations good quality and friendly service only a bit to noisy
Nice outdoor terrace, the steak was disappointing, though, the performance with steaks display was nice, with they had the bone marrow separately, it was the best part of the steak.
Better go for spare ribs than steak.
Wine list could be broader.
It was an ideal sunny afternoon, on the rich flower-decorated terrace of Ron's Gastrobar. The white brigade provided delicious lunch dishes such as; an omelette of peas with king crab & chorizo foam and with the Spareribs with crispy chimichurri, you really have to look after your fingers before you bite into it. The ladies of the black brigade were very attentive and friendly, making everything a very nice experience. Finally; Ron's surprise egg for dessert .... To be honest, every adult will be so happy as a child, TOP !!
Amazing food, quite expensive. Once is a while for a special occasion.
One of the best and most inventive restaurants that I have been to in recent times.
Amazing food and amazing staff. Good champagne and wine. I will back soon
Delicious food. Very poor service. Basic presentation.
Eaten fantastically. Pricey, but totally worth the money.
2 stars only for the food, horrible service. We were completely ignored and for the money completely not worth it.
Fantastic place, we've ordered firsts which were amazing, one stake fed 3 people as main, with cocktail and wine came out very happy!
Very relaxed place! Food is creative, tasty and very attractive pricing. Although the location attracts quite a typical (over the top) audience, the food and staff are really nice (and not over the top). Great atmosphere!
Super rotten, super salty meal, super ordinary dessert, this meal is only delicious with bread! Phoenix Travel Agency also knows that it is not delicious and brings it! Rotten! So many negative reviews. Not worthy of a Michelin star.
Some of the service staff had a terrible attitude and their face was so smelly as if I owed her.
Ca n t complain enough about this restaurant. Food is way too salty.
It would n t adjust their flavour according to the customers but they can modify the dishes from 6 to 4 according to the travel agency! ??
The dessert is not at all what it listed on the normal menu.
Almost everyone in other group decided to skip the main dish, pork chop, after the first bite. I even had to use water to wash out the salt so I can even swallow.
Some of the waitstaffs were not nice at all, making the face as if I owe them money.
Fish cheese cake was the only dish worth a thumb but it s abit too sticky.
After all, I strongly doubt how it even got the star in the first place.
Food was perfect. We found the service to be slow. Note at first the prices of the dishes seem cheap. However, it is recommended to take 2 to 3 per person.
Ron Gastrobar will go down in the books as one of the most surprisingly disappointing restaurants I ve been to, from the service to the food. We were told we couldn t sit outside (on a gorgeous night no less!) because the patio was closed because it might get cold, then we watched as 5 tables were sat outside. After ordering drinks, the staff disappeared for an alarmingly long time while us (and several nearby tables) looked around wanting to order. Apparently the staff was holding their nightly meeting. Once our food finally came, they didn t clear dishes from our table (even empty oyster shells) and our server generally seemed uninterested in us. Last, but certainly not least, everything we ordered was disappointing. The only edible dish was the shrimp.
Good food, especially spareribs! Super professional and friendly service!
Restaurant not recommended. On the face is considered good but poor service and very mediocre dishes. It's unclear how they got a Michelin star
Incredible restaurant! Super cool, amazing tapas, beautiful presentation and excellent food. Great service. A must go in Amsterdam. 1 michelin Star.
Last weekend together with my girlfriend eating out, the food took too long, was also not warm enough the staff did offer them an excuse but the final position was not correct at the end .. this was the first time and the last time
Go online and purchase the lunch deal. Incredible value for truly delicious and unique small plates. Great for dates!
I went to this restaurant with my partner in Sep. I was really disappointed there. Because the service we received was terrible. When I entered the restaurant, I asked for a table but the staff told us about the restaurant being listed on the Michelin guide instead of accommodating us. I didn t know, but I felt strange why they mentioned it. In my opinion, it doesn t matter whether the restaurant is listed on the Michelin guide or not. I think it is not necessary to mention that. And when I ordered a glass of white wine, the way the lady poured the wine was very careless that she spilled a little wine on the table. However, she just ignored it. I could pour it myself instead of an arrogant staff. In addition, the chips (side dish) served to us tasted so awful but the main dishes ware tasty and classy. If I were the chef of this restaurant, I couldn t have served it to the customers, because chips looked like as if it s just a leftover. I felt uncomfortable eating dinner in spite being in a fancy restaurant. I m afraid I will not go back there again.
Good cuisine but not extraordinary. A piece of hair came in a dish and there was a bad smell from time to time. Service was slow but very friendly and nice. I would not come back.
After trying the other Gastrobars in A'dam, now I went to the original. Somewhat disappointing result. Diet (my partner does not eat beef and pork) passed on when booking and the first thing on the table was butter with bacon. That can be more thoughtful.
Start afterwards was excellent with delicious steak tartare and foie gras. Presentation on the plates is top notch. After that each dish became a little less. Pigeon was really disappointing - way too salty and for a dish that should be for two people very small portion. Perfect cooking. Indicated but nevertheless on the bill. Not that I expect that every disappointing dish will be immediately scrapped, but a little follow-up would have been nice. They would make up for it 'next time'. Yes, I can.
Portions are quite small anyway, it is the well-known (and fortunately now on its way back) 'shared dining' concept, but most courses are so small that there is little to share. Furthermore, you have to order at least 3 or 4 dishes per person and then a dessert to have a bit of a meal - with the two of you you should actually order three quarters of the menu that way. Also does not understand why a supplement of 5 euros must be charged for 1 piece of King Crab, approximately 8 cm long.
Fairly priced wine list with plenty of choice by the glass.
Operation a bit sloppy - perhaps because we were on the - by the way quite noisy - terrace? First course came before the wine was delivered and later on there was food but no cutlery. If this also happens when the Michelin inspectors come by, I fear that star will soon disappear.
Not directly relevant to us, but few options for vegetarians: unless you are going to eat side dishes, there are only two vegetarian dishes on the menu.
Also a pity that there was plenty of smoking outside. As a non-smoker you had the choice between sitting inside alone or waving away the fumes from adjacent tables. Out of date - except in Amsterdam South?
Update 5-6: Ron's Gastrobar has now contacted very thoughtfully and offered a small compensation. That's neat!
We can't get enough of it, February is the month where there is much to celebrate.
And since we enjoyed it so much on Saturday, we decided to celebrate my birthday here too! Although there has been a new menu with new dishes for two days, I have come again for my three favorites. The foie gras, spare ribs and the surprise egg. To keep a memory of this great lunch we have made a nice photo with the cook's encore in the top right!
This is a great place, excellent food and service, chilled atmosphere and reasonably priced for the quality. Great flavours and wines
For a restaurant described as dialing down the pretense, there was still plenty left. The food was well-crafted. Portions were small, but fine for those of us not used to a giant lunch. Perhaps not entirely for me, but we still enjoyed our meal.
Cheapest way to get a 1 star Michelin meal (even a fast food version). Fun way to get the fastfood version is to go for the boneless spareribs ( 15) and order fries as a side ( 7). They're both excellent. That is a Michelin star dinner, with adequate food!
The normal way to have dinner here is to choose 2 or 3 dishes from the list of 15, 20 or 25 euro per dish list. The two in the pics are;
JERUSALEM ARTICHOKE
PREPARATIONS OF JERUSALEM ARTICHOKE WITH CRISPY VEAL BRAIN, BROWN BUTTER AND CORNICHONS and
STEAK TARTAR
COARSE GROUND BEEF WITH A CRISPY PANI PURI, LAVAS AND LARDO
Visited Ron last Tuesday! Good quality food and experienced service! We got a good explanation about the dishes and they tasted great! All in all a very nice experience!
Amazing ! Too bad there is no more ticket for the Frikandelfestival for this year.
Good food and tastefully decorated. Prices are high for the quality / quantity but we had a nice time.
Tasty food in an animated environment. Stuff is not as well prepared as you can expect from a restaurant of this status. It was also a bit noisy.
Conclusion: Food is really tasty but it didn't meet the expectations. The good part is that it is not very expensive.
Good service is soft. But their steak slightly tough.
Had a great evening. Delicious wines and dishes. Thank you!
Loved all the food and the atmosphere, The service and even the reasonable price! Highly recommended to spend time with others with great food and drinks.
My experience at the ron gastrobar was not very smashing it was okay no more than that. I don't quite understand why this case has a star, but it is on the pricey side for what you get. I personally do not come here soon anymore I tighten myself first behind the ears I want to step in here again very unfortunate for sure
A wonderful restaurant. This is perhaps the least pretentious and most enjoyable Mich 1 star we have visited. The food was real food wonderfully prepared. The staff is delightful and smart. I wish I lived up the street as I would be a regular.
There's a reason why this place is highly rated on Yelp, Trip Advisor and just about anywhere. It's deserving of its Michelin Star with their delicious flavorful dishes and friendly wait staff. I made lunch reservations before our trip and although we got to the restaurant early, they had no problem seating us. My husband and I ordered a few dishes to share - Trofie Pasta, Langoustine, Spare Ribs and Veal Brain (which I didn't partake).
The Trofie Pasta and Spare Ribs were my favorites. It was packed with flavors. I wasn't a fan of the Langoustine because I thought it would be served warm but it wasn't. My husband thought the Veal Brain was good but would've liked to eat it with bread because he said it's similar to eating bone marrow. The complimentary bread and butter with fried bacon could be a meal on its own. It was hard to stop eating it. Lastly, the "egg" dessert was worth the indulgence. It wasn't overly sweet yet enough to curb your sweet tooth.
With all that said, we had a wonderful dining experience and highly recommend this place because we would love to come back.
Really fantastic restaurant, very tasteful, top staff knowledgeable and friendly. Looking forward to the next time! Also curious about the other restaurants of Ron.
I wait a long time for my dish of 35 euros and it was very small without nothing special inside.
I went there by myself and stayed there for about 2 hours! The food and dessert (including the surprise egg) were good but the service is what i love about the place. They were very busy but i was never forgotten.
First time was mind blowing. Second experience was a let down because the first was so good. Can t do the six course tasting anymore, and a friend had a really disappointing experience with the chorizo cabbage. My inexperienced pallet was still happy though.
Brilliant 1* Michelin experience. Good price ratio, excellent and top quality food, careful staff. I'll be back! :)
Unique fusion restaurant with friendly atmosphere and professional service. Perfect ribs! Small portions at first glance but in the end it's enough to be full. Food beautifully presented.
