Too dark to see or read the menu. Server wasn't clear, we had to keep asking "what?" Wasn't interested in telling us about the food. No fish of the day.
Turned a wonderful celebration into a dreary occasion.

Good beer. Food is good, but a little pricey. The food is never bad, but sometimes it's not as great as the prices they charge would suggest. Last time the fries weren't fresh. They were barely warm and a little on the limp/soggy side. Portions are a little on the small side, too. Some dishes they do really well, but the seafood (at least what I've tried) is nothing special.

This is one of the places my family loves to go when they are in town. The river company has a great atmosphere and sometimes there is even even live music. They also brew great beer and the view from the back deck is spectacular. This is a very unique restaurant with high ceilings and a fireplace. The food is very good and I usually get the chicken. This place has a nice ambience and I promise you will love it!

Arrived late on a weekday evening but within posted serving hours- about 45 minutes before closing. After being seated, I was informed the kitchen had already closed but a couple of entrees were available. I had hoped for a relaxing dinner after a long work day but obviously not on this evening in this particular restaurant. Food was fine; had to ask for check from host. Not the place to go on a slow night. In fairness, I had a quite difference experience on an earlier visit. I came with a large party (12-15 people) after a college graduation. Service was superb, appetizers and drinks came without a hitch and they were wonderful. The entrees were varied, with special requests by several members in the party and the server did a great job! The entrees and desserts, after-dinner drinks were perfectly prepared and served.

Our family went here after my daughters graduation from College and I can t tell you how bad our experience was. We had a party of 7 and of course they don t take reservations or allow a call ahead. When we got there, Emma at the hostess station was so rude that I can t believe the owners want her to be a customers first impression of the restaurant. Two of the people in our party were 5 minutes behind us, but they wouldn t seat us until everyone was there. And when they came, she literally made us line up to count us, to make sure we weren t lying I guess. Then she proceeded to make us wait another 20 minutes until she sat us at a table that had been open THE WHOLE TIME. Our meal was fine, but the spinach appetizer was basically hot cream cheese. And for a steak restaurant, you d think they would have rolls/bread and a half way decent wine list (which they don t). It s a shame, because it s a pretty restaurant with a great view. I think they take for granted that there aren t really any decent restaurants in Radford and don t care about how they treat their customers. Our server, who s name I wish I could remember, (Ron maybe?) saved the day and he was great. But the entire hostess station has GOT TO GO.

Was a repeat customer, came here to snap a few photographs of Radford (they have the best overlook) with my friend who s a photographer, to go on the back of my graduation card as I m walking in May and the owner in a white pick up truck turned us away and said something to the tune of he was going to call the sheriff department for trespassing
Unfortunate... would appreciate a response from the owner or I ll be going to preston s from now on

We had a bit of trouble finding this place, but once there it was terrific. My husband and I sat at the bar with Aaron as out bartender/service/historian. He was very attentive, helpful in our menu selection. Although a micro brewery, we drank wine. Had a filet n sirloin. Both were cooked to perfection n tadtex excellent. Aaron said, like myself, enjoyed a good ribeye, but said the filet was just as good. He was right. Next time I would opt to eat outside as 100 fy below is the river. View was outstanding, and the ambience inside also great. I highly recommend this place.

This place used to be amazing. I don't know what happened. It's not terrible, but the quality of the food has definitely dropped significantly over the last two or three years. I used to save up money to take my family here, now I can't justify the price. The beer is still great.

The first time we came it was great. This the was awful. The salad was old my bake potato was old. Our waitress didn't bring out the soup before the meal.... Not a good experiences. Sorry guys and no bread.

Used to be a decent steakhouse a brewery but has dramatically declined. Service is terrible, food is only okay, beer is nothing to write home about. They capitalize on being one of the few nicer restaurant s near Radford, but that shouldn't be enough to keep them in business.

And of course they don't take any reservations or special requests. I wanted to ask my girlfriend to marry me on their balcony at sunset (on a Wednesday during the summer so during very low season) and they refused to be accommodating in the least saying that I couldn't even rent the space for any amount of money. They had a chance to step up and make dreams come true and decided to crush them instead.

We went to 622 north in Blacksburg instead and it was an amazing experience. Go there instead.

The food here is fantastic as is the decor. The restaurant is gorgeous with a wonderful outside area in warmer weather and a lovely indoor fireplace for the colder weather! The service could use some advancing to get where it needs to be. Beer is delicious, there is a view from the dining room into the brewery room.

DO NOT WASTE MONEY HERE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

DO NOT WASTE MONEY HERE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

This restaurant is comically bad. From beginning to end, it was a complete disaster and demonstration that the management has no idea how to run a higher-end restaurant. Honestly, what I saw tonight points to management that couldn't run a greasy spoon diner.

1.) Before we go, we call to ask what type of steak selection they have. The person answering the phone was so confused and scattered, we went in thinking there were no dry aged steaks sold there any longer. That turned out to not be true, but it would have been wonderful if that was their only mistake.

2.) We arrive and ask for seating outside. Please understand - the place was 75% empty. We are told all tables outside are taken and would we like a table. We follow her thinking we will be given one of the tables near the windows since there are none outside. Better than nothing, right? Nope, instead, she takes us to a table as far away from the window as possible right in the middle of a high traffic area. We ask for a window seat and she looks like I just handed her a calculus test. We explain we would like a table with a view. This computes and she finally takes us to our table.

3.) The server, who spoke to us in the manner of a frustrated girls basketball coach, told us about the special of the evening, a dry aged (yippee!) 14 oz ribeye. We both ordered the special and I asked for a different starch and a shrimp skewer. What was eventually delivered was a completely different type of steak (a very tiny filet). No shrimp, no different starch. We were then told that the server didn't understand what the special of the night was and they would get us what we ordered out to us right away. Cut to twenty min later (to cook steaks to rare) and two very poor cuts of bland, tasteless meat arrive. I have had better steaks at a Golden Corral - not an exaggeration. The shrimp came along this time, but were, of course, cold. The different starch never arrived, but I didn't even ask given what a cluster the kitchen must be.

4.) Red wine was served ice cold. Obviously kept in the fridge.

5.) The table next to us had to send back one of their meals and it took over 20 min for them to get ANOTHER HAMBURGER. They weren't very happy either.

In a nutshell, the service and food is laughably bad and I would have been furious had I not been using a gift card somebody gave me. Avoid this restaurant at all costs - it's obvious that people who don't know the basics of restaurant management are now running it. It may have been a nice place in the past, but based on tonight's experience and the huge number of empty tables there on a Saturday night, it won't be long for the world.

Have been here several times in the past few years. This trip we had delicious prime rib done as we asked, however the beer (which was why we went there) was not good. Not sure why but suspect that the original brewmaster is not working there anymore....

Not what you hope for with the prices they charge (among the highest in the area). Not accommodating to guest requests, very limited selection of very plain sides to accompany workmanlike preparation of main dishes. Nice interior, though! Warning - they do not accommodate groups of more than 4.

You're paying for a pretty log cabin restaurant. Our service was not good. The food was over priced and lack luster. We had to send my wife's side salad back as the lettuce was brown and the tomatoes looked nasty. I ordered the spicy shrimp pasta which was $18 for five pieces of shrimp a
tiny bit of angel hair pasta and four slivers of Roma tomatoes. My wife's steak was cooked as ordered however the meat was tough. We don't mind paying these prices for good food however to pay these prices for food that compares with a cheap Western Sizzler will keep us from returning.

After a 2 hour process, I was refused service after all. The waitress was totally unprofessional, I'm not sure she knows that her job entails customer service. I am from New York, thus I have an out of state ID. I am always happy providing multiple forms of ID when asked. The waitress asked for my ID, I provided her my Drivers license, she said ok, took my drink order and left. The waitress was then gone for at least 15 minutes, me and my boyfriend actually started talking about how long does it take to get a drink? She comes back and blatantly just says "I don't feel comfortable serving you, your ID seems fake, I have to refuse service to you". I told her I am happy to provide multiple forms of ID and provided her with my Virginia tech ID and my credit card, she still said she was refusing me service. I was appalled, I told her I have no problem having the cops come to scan my ID. I asked to speak to the manager, and again there was a long wait. I brought my ID's to the bartender and other employees who were all satisfied with my forms of ID and stated they were acceptable. I had to ask two other people for the manager since the waitress just vanished once again. Finally the manager came out and was apologetic, but at this point I felt that the restaurant did not deserve my business. I am still appalled that I was not even given the opportunity to provide a second form of ID and was just instantly discredited due to an obviously inexperienced waitress.

Additionally, before we seated they gave us a handful of issues over minutia such as moving inside if it started raining.

We will not be returning here, nor recommending this place to anyone. We should have listened to the other Yelp reviews about the terrible customer service.

My second visit here and hopefully not my last! The steaks are amazing! Don't be fooled by the lack of toppings available for your steak. You don't need truffle butter or crab meat, the steak stands on its own. It's flavorful, tender and delicious. On my first visit, I learned that the owner's cattle provided the meat for the steaks. Pair it with mashed potatoes and you're set. I have no pictures to show you because I ate my steak and potatoes as soon as I got them. Go there and give them a try and you'll do the same.

I have been here before with no major issues, HOWEVER, this time was different... when we arrived we went to the counter and were asked how many, for a name, and then handed a pager without any idea of wait time, a smile, nothing. Ok no big deal they're busy... then after waiting for 30 minutes and watching 5 families leave in the mean time our pager finally goes off and we are seated. Another family who came in around 10 minutes after us is seated at the same time. Their waitress comes over and gets their drinks and orders, comes back with their drinks and leaves again. After about another 10 minutes our waiter Ben comes over with a smug attitude and introduces himself. My wife explains that we have been waiting a good bit of time and that we weren't pleased at this moment but hoped it would improve you'd think he'd say I'm sorry and try and fix it... Nope nothing. We proceeded to order our drinks and a pricey meal because we believed the steaks were worth it. Anyone who has been here knows the steaks are good and there price. Ben proceeds to the hostess counter and starts talking to the hostess who stares at my wife and I and rolls her eyes. As you can imagine I'm steamed at this point. Ben eventually comes back with our drinks and slides them on the table and walks off. At this point I'm done. I walk to the hostess counter and tell her to cancel our orders because we will not be disrespected. All she says is ok. Really?! As we leave my wife calls to speak with the manager who is too busy to speak with us. When she eventually comes to the phone we get excuses as top why she was too busy taking care of the other customers to speak with us. At no point ever in this entire event did we get an apology! We will never eat here again!

Atmosphere and the building are first rate. Clean, well decorated, feels like a mountain chalet. Craft beers are interesting. Some seem a little plain while others stretch the style limits, Chill Chaser comes to mind. Simple menu but tasty.

Only 2burgers on the menu so we tried them, both dry, fries unseasoned, didn't really care for the menu. Husband liked the red/Nelson pale ale. He liked that they let you taste before committing to a beer. Thought the food prices we're too high. And could be more creative with their burgers. The atmosphere was OK, great view of radford from the balcony.

The River Company Restaurant is a great place to entertain business associates, friends and family. They have a wonderful beer, wine and alcohol selection. The food and service is consistently good. I love sitting at one of the tables in front of the fireplace on chilly days or nights. The view from the outdoor balcony is beautiful. They also have a large room for meetings, receptions and other large gatherings. The bar area offers a casual gathering area. River Company is a place you can go in your jeans or more casual attire or get dressed up for a fine dining experience.

Disappointing... "you can't seat if you your party isn't complete" seriously?. Five out of seven people were there on time, the rest were coming late, we lost outdoor table because of that. When I asked to put two tables together, the waitress came up with an strange explanation about why she couldn't do it. Very awkward moment. I give them 2 stars because the food good, but the service sucks.

Their web site said no reservations on Fridays so we traveled the 30 minutes to get there one hour before they closed and was told they weren't seating "walk-ins" anymore. Must be nice to turn folks away with empty tables. Really? It's that first impression that counts and we won't be back.

We've been trying to get here for a couple of years and never made it. When we finally were able to dine here, we weren't disappointed. Atmosphere is quite cozy especially with the view of the New River. Service was quite friendly. The food quite tasty. If you are in the area, I would suggest stopping by.

I just took my girlfriend there for her birthday. We came dressed to a very upscale looking establishment just out of the river floating and relaxing on a very rare day off and no one scoffed. Usually I would dress the part but time constraints denied this. The food was AMAZING, the service exemplary. I would recommend it to all

Beautiful view, it s a great place for a date night...left the kids at home, I think we made the right choice with that decision. We both enjoyed the prime rib and steak crostini appetizer! No issues with service, we got seated immediately and our waiter was very attentive and answered any questions we had. Beers were good, but they didn t have many of their own available when we went.

Interesting brewpub, in a new, exposed beam main dining room that has 2 story ceilings.
Craft beers were great, and the food was reasonably priced and delicious.
The views of the New River and the Radford campus on the far side, were nice.
Large fireplace was a nice comfortable feature, as well.
Only downsides were the portion sizes were a little small and the service, though friendly, was painfully slow.

This used to be my favorite restaurant in the area when it first opened, but it has gone downhill drastically since then. I used to try to stop in here about once a year when I would come in town, but have started looking for other options in recent years.

AVOID THIS PLACE.

AVOID THIS PLACE.

Nice setting, that's about all they have going for them. Service was horrible. I don't mind waiting for a table, especially during a busy night. However, once we finally were seated, everything else was just crap.

1.) Went to bar while we were waiting. Took about 10 minutes for them to acknowledge me, this after one of the bartenders was texting on her phone, saw me waiting and trying to get her attention, she went right back to texting. Drinks were OK.

2.) Finally seated, took 20 minutes for the server to come see us and take our drink orders. Drinks were brought about 10 minutes later.

3.) Server comes to take our food orders about 20 minutes after dropping our drinks off.

4. )Drinks were only refilled after being empty for at least 15 minutes. Server looked at the drinks, even if only 1/4 filled, wouldn't refill.

5.) Took us an hour and some to get our food, this is after I approached the manager and told them how long we'd been waiting. He stated that since they were busy, it would take a while. . . Gee, I'm sorry your kitchen can service your size restaurant but that sounds like your issue, not mine.

6.) Food arrived and was crap. Shrimp and pasta was just horrible, prime rib was average at best. Food temperatures were all over the place. Apparently cooking something "medium" meant going nuclear on the burger.

7.) Manager arrived later and asked "Well, you think it was worth the wait?" No. No food is worth crappy service. You don't get to exchange one service for another. If I went to a another high dollar restaurant (which this is), I expect all aspects to be good. When told this, manager dismissed our complaints and walked away saying "Well I'm sorry to hear that."

Avoid this place, there are other restaurants in the area that value their customers way better. You could get better service, food, and prices at an outback steakhouse or an applebees.

Need to learn some tolerance. We found this place just by Google and decided to make this our mid-point home from vacation. Stopped in Radford (cute little college town) just to visit this restaurant. It's a shame, spent $80 on beer and appetizers and was having a great time with my husband and kids when we were just about to pay our bill & the next server over asked us to quiet down our kids. My kids were in no way being obnoxious, they were squealing a little and having fun and my autistic son was standing next to the table and fireplace in the corner where we were sat. Apparently we were "disturbing" other patrons. I have never in my life been asked to quiet my kids in a restaurant. My son is sweet and loving he was just having a hard time sitting still, so he stood up and was laughing at his little sister. Apparently not a place at all to take children. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED.

Food was way over seasoned. The hamburger was juicier than the steak. Vegetables were over cooked. Beer wasn't anything special. Risotto was undercooked. The restaurant was very disappointing for the cost...you can eat at the Palisades (in Eggleston, VA) for cheaper and get significantly tastier food.
