Ate there today for lunch. I have been before, and am struggling to remember how it was before, but today, my ribeye was tough and mostly large chunks of fat. About half the total mass was left on my plate, once I had extracted all the meat that it had. There was almost no marbling, just huge sections with no meat, and sections of shoe-leather meat with no fat marbling. That is indicative of lower-graded meat - definitely choice and not prime, and on the poor side of choice; I wonder if it was Select, to be honest.

I also asked for medium-rare, and got medium-well, which was probably inevitable because of how thin the cut was - less than a half-inch.

The garlic-mashed potatoes were good; the salad was just out of a bag of mixed "salad lettuce with purple cabbage"; the dessert was actually very good. But that doesn't make up for a $27 steak that is easily surpassed in quality by what you find at WalMart.

Food was very good. I had the roasted califlower and linguini with garlic cream sauce. Most of the rest of our party had the steaks. We ate outside. Had a nice shady table. Service was great and everyone wore masks when needed and great social distancing. A little pricey but great for a special occasion.

Very disappointed with our first visit. They only had two beers to choose from. Crazy being a brewery and you run out of beer.. You would think they would offer more choices for food but that had to be the biggest joke of a menu I have ever seen. The place looks amazing with nice views looking over a cliff . Think after it closes down and new management walks in this will be a great place but for now it SUCKS..

Burger was great! Not greasy - very lean and fresh. Beer was good. Prices normal for this type of place. Awesome timber framed architecture with an amazing stone fireplace. Good place to go. Relaxed jeans, burger, and beer place.

Yay for good micro brew in the nrv. The atmosphere is amazing, wood beam construction with a view of the river. High prices and lack of vegetarian options make this a great place to get beer and onion rings.

Amazing prime rib if you like smokey meats. If not, their steaks are fabulous. Of course the beer is great too. Love the seasonal apple brown and chill chaser. Great atmosphere and a bar tender who remembers your favorites.

The reviews complaining about the service are correct. It is VERY BAD, but in the area there aren't many more choices, so people end up coming back anyway. Food is OK, beer is good, but they won't let you put tables together to accommodate larger parties, won't sit you if you party is not complete, and won't take reservations even if you are going with 12 people and you want to make sure there will be space for everyone when you get there. Once someone in our party asked for some lemon and the MANAGER brought four slices on his hand! But like I said, not many places to take customers around. Try it at your own risk. Or even better... Don't!

When we arrived there was wait but that was to be expected. We had a wait of about 20 min. for a Friday night after 7:00. While we waited we looked at the menu posted in the waiting area and decided on our meals and drinks. When it was finally time to order, our choices weren't available. The server stated they had "run out" of the Prime Rib hours before we got there. The Prime Rib was the reason we drove there. So, how about the second choice, BBQ Ribs? Nope, they have been out of the ribs for months. Months! After my third choice arrived (we couldn't leave because we were too hungry by this time) I ordered a Porter to have with my meal. The server suggested a different equally good beer that I accepted. My guess was, given past experience, they were out of the Porter as well. And the beer arrived well after I was finished eating rather than while I was eating which was what I had intended. The building is beautiful, the server was great. However, I will NEVER waste my time or money there again. To have to wait and then settle for plan C completely put us out. I would think they would change their menu to reflect what people can actually order.

Don't ever go here if you expect quick service. I ordered the chicken and mashed potatoes and they gave me pork and told me if I wanted to chicken I would have to pay for both dishes. Took almost an hour and a half for a hamburger and what was supposed to be chicken. I understand that a wedding party was going on but we arrived before they had and service was slow from the beginning and only got worse as more people started showing up for dinner.

They changed our favorite loaded fries that was so good to something that you would get at a County Fair. 8 bucks for fries with fake cheese on top. gross! Meal and beer was ok but I ordered prime rib and it came out warm at best. Such a beautiful place but the kitchen an table staff need to step up their game.

Yummy

I've been here a handful of times and each time I question if I'll be back or not. Service is generally on the slow side so don't come if you don't have at least two hours to spend at dinner. The food is OK but inconsistent. Some visits it is very, very good and other visits it is subpar. My no fail food is the tenderloin crostini.

We did come as a group for my bosses retirement dinner recently. We called ahead and they said even though they didn't take reservations that they would be able to fit in our party. All in all we took up four of their normal tables. It was such a disappointing experience. Their service was awful. They did not arrange for our party to sit at the same table. We were all at the four separate tables. That is not how a group of people want to get together. They don't want to be seated at separate tables.

To boot - they were apparently low on servers and the cook walked out. What the actual hell people!? We arrived at 6 pm and didn't get our food until shortly after 8. Some of our party didn't even their waters and you had to practically beg for drink refills. They were sure to tack on a 20% gratuity for sitting us at separate tables though! We didn't see a manager once to apologize. They left their servers to the wolves and did not smooth over anything with the customers. Will actively avoid going back here in the future.

A group of friends and I decided to order takeout at The River Company (9.20.14). Called the order in and the young lady that took our order stated the food would be ready for pickup in ~ 20 minutes. My friend and I went to pick up the food 30 minutes later, where we were directed to go to the bar to pay and grab the food. After sitting for 15 minutes unacknowledged by the bartender, we were able to make eye contact to grab his attention. After placing bev naps down and asking for drinks, we kindly stated to him that we were here for a pickup order. After a blank response, we asked if we would need to grab a beer while the food finished, to which he replied "it's going to be a while." During our wait, the bartender never checked on us or asked if we needed any refills/another round of drinks. 50 minutes elapsed from the time our to-go food came out, with no apologies from the bartender or the management staff. We understood it was post-football game; however, a 50 minute wait on top of the 30 minutes we gave for a call-in order was unacceptable. We were shocked how there were no apologies from the staff and no comp was offered for our bill. Food was decent and greatly overpriced. We hope that the staff and owners will use this information to reiterate the importance of customer service and improve the dining or "call-in" experience for future diners. Extremely disappointed. Will NOT be visiting or recommending to friends/family in the future.

Lot of bad reviews associated with this place! Maybe I missed something and maybe it's different when it's really busy. But we had a good experience. We ate on the deck overlooking the New River. Very nice. I had the crab cakes and my wife had the salmon. Both were good, veggies as well. Nothing to write home about but good food and good beers. I had flights so I tried all of them. The Appalachian Scotch Ale was great. All in all, we had a very pleasant evening. Thanks Rachel, you served us well.

For the prices the service and food are not what you would expect. I got a black and blue salad that was $16 it was the size of a sidw salad with 5 pieces of steak. My husbands steak was $30 and was over cooked. We never received our bread and waited for water refills. But you can't beat the atmosphere.
