I'd like to go back & order a different thing each...
I'd like to go back & order a different thing each time until I've tried everything, I bet it would all be excellent.

Food was great. Calamari was reason alone to return, and the views are incredible!
Don't believe the $$ lie. This place is extremely expensive
Great view, awesome happy hour! Service was only ok but it was a busy night. Absolutely worth a visit.
Locals know that Portland City Grill has been coasting by on its reputation and views for a very long time. But this doesn't stop us from coming and mixing with the tourists (who I can only assume are to blame for Coors Light being on tap). The happy hour prices are basically regular prices anywhere else in the city, and the food really is mediocre. But again, those views!
Awesome view. That is the reason to come here, and it's maybe worth it for that alone, even if the food is terrible and the whole place has the feel of a terrible hotel bar from the mid-80s.
Delicious food, excellent food and an amazing view of the city. Live piano music, relaxing atmosphere.
It was our first time eating here and it was phenomenal! Kristen gave excellent service and the rack of lamb was delightful. We also had the Deluxe sushi roll and the Shrimp and Crab roll which were both done beautifully. If you are looking for a restaurant to bring friends and family to for a really good meal especially for a special occasion, I would absolutely recommend Portland City Grill.
My wife and I plus another couple went here last Sunday to celebrate her birthday. I must say this ranks in the top 10% of my dining experiences (in a bar) in my lifetime and it just may well be one of the finest! Sadly, I can't remember our server's name, but she was a relocated Alaskan and one of the most enchanting people I have ever met. She was amazing and professional. She made some suggestions for cocktails as well as appetizers and they all were wonderful. The gentlemen who played the piano was one of the most talented and entertaining pianist that I have ever heard. He could play anything and most of them he could play backwards too (you have to see it to believe it). I'm sure the restaurant is just as amazing!
Enjoyed my morning seminar meeting host in one of there conferences rooms.
Simply the Best. When it comes to service consistency of quality of food free parking views of the city. It's always been great. I have been there about 50 times.
At first entrance you ll be taken away by the views. Visible throughout the restaurant. If you can snag a window table you ll be enjoying up close one of the best views from a height Portland has to offer. Food and cocktail selection are great. Happy hour is a good time to go too for some specials.
We had a lovely department lunch here. The food is good and the service excellent.
Excellent food and fantastic views out the windows. Prostitution business likes it here too. Sad.
The view is amazing. It's like you're on top of the world. Well, Portland at least. It's a casual to upscale place, this isn't for a cheap quick drink. Sitting at the bar gives you a very limited view so always ask for a booth or table.
Waited a long time to finally go to Portland City Grill . Went today for brunch wish I hadn't. It is like many of the reviews suggest having a stunning view high above Portland . Server Kristen was kind and attentive and that is where the good things end. Food was very average, mediocre really. The brunch had a number of prefabricated items danishes , desserts , potatoes were frozen , etc... That alone isn't an issue if not for the price point. At $49 per person plus drinks and tip it is in my professional opinion one could and should expect food of a higher caliber. I'm not saying it wasn't palatable , but it sorely under delivered on value . White table cloth restaurant commanding that price for a simple buffet should certainly been able to assure the broken plate I snagged my finger on to have not been in the stack of dishes for customers. They certainly don't lack staff there were many on duty. Kristen gave me her ear as I expressed my surprise on the quality as compared to the cost . She told me they are really known for their steaks and offered to bring me a dinner menu to look at to consider a future visit . Shortly after a manager arrived at my table and asked if I had any questions . I shared with him my thoughts and he bacame very defensive and suggested they made everything in house and after I pointed out the aforementioned items he did then agree that some things are brought in after being very staunch on his previous position. I wish I could name him but he failed to introduce himself. He became irritated and dismissive for no reason , as I had asked for nothing no compensation , no discount , nothing. I just wanted it noted that the value was not their for me . He then quickly cleared the jagged plate and avoided my table for the rest of the time. Management includes occassional criticism and an effective manager would be prepared for that .Manage is a verb you have to do something it is not just a title sadly he took it personally instead considering what I was saying . We paid the full bill, for those that are wondering ,tipped appropriately and thanked Kristen for her time . With so many great reviews I'm convinced people are embarrassed to admit they got hosed so instead hype it up to make others wish they had gone. On the fence if I would ever return one thing for sure I won't return for brunch . Come on Portland City Grill if you are good at something do that leave the brunch to the professionals or at the very least price it accordingly .
We love eating out. Last night we arrived in this superb restaurant which we didn t know before. We passed a delightful evening there with very good dishes and an efficient team and an impressive cook. We added this place in our phone list and we shall definitely go again very soon. We deeply recommend.
Just not the experience I was hoping for. The food was pretty good as were the drinks we had, however the entire experience was ruined by our seating. Our window seat was practically in the kitchen. Less than 5 feet from the kitchen opening any conversation I was trying to have with my wife on her birthday was interrupted every 30 seconds by the loud bursts of "CORNER" or "SERVICE." Moreover, there was the occasional peppering of jokes and retelling of the kitchen staffs' nights, dates, and other personal details. I got there early so as to avoid such a situation and when asking for a different seat I was not given the option. If I could have paid more for a different table I would have. It's not the staff's fault so I don't hold anything against them and made sure to tip well, but this is a poor management decision and something that will prevent me from returning in the future.
Best place for happy hour and with a view. Great service!
Bar is very very good, cozy and high class but the restaurant is not the best place to go with your male friends lol!
This place is great for views if you're willing to wait long enough even with a reservation. Even when not at a window you can still see vistas of Portland. My only real complaint is that they really pack you in. The central part of the restaurant was really hard to navigate and we felt like we were on top of our neighbors.
I take my kids to the main restaurant since they aren t allowed in the bar area. It is much more expensive but the view is worth it. Thank you!
This place was recommended to me by my hotel as I wanted a photo of Mt Helen. The staff were absolutely lovely and seated me where I could get the best view. They were very laid back about me wandering around amongst the other diners. I went there for lunch and it has definitely been the best food I've eaten in Portland. The portion was huge and it was great value. The views are fantastic too. Shame the weather was little hazy- I'm sure they would have changed that too if they could, they were so accommodating.
Amazing view and cheap eats. Great place to come before a blazer game
Great views and good food. Happy hours are seriously crowded, so get there early. Beer selection is very limited, but nice choice of cocktails.
Wow, what a view! Staff is fantastic. Great expresso.
Great view, great food! Love the Happy Hour specials!
Expensive, but we had a great experience. They provided a small birthday cake + candle and even table glitter for my GF's 21st birthday. We had an amazing view and great food to match.
Tips:
-Reserve early & show up early
-Request a window seat for your table (show up early to do this)
-Be prepared to spend $50+ per person
Sky our server was outstanding
The food perfect!
The view breathtaking!
One opportunity for improvement......the steak knives are the worst of any establishment we have been to.
Making it nearly impossible to cut your steak makes you think you paid way too much.
Simple solution.....new knives
You've got to go here if you're in Portland. Not the best food in the city (though it is good!), but the view is incredible.
You can't go wrong. Enough said. My advise. Don't over think. Order what is commonly thought as good. :)
Good views, great atmosphere and service but a poor choice for people with dietary restrictions. I was very disappointed that our specially made entrees were incredibly bland and sloppily made. I'm sure it is great for those who can order steak or fish but if you can't, just meet me at the bar.
Insanely great service, and wonderful food. Pricey, but absolutely worth it. I recommend reserving your table ahead of time.
It was very expansive because it is fancy and luxurious but also the food so delicious. I recommend the New York steak
Cool restaurant with a beautiful view of downtown Portland OR, but really expensive.
First off, our server was great and the food was just as good. So why the one star? Well management is the absolute definition of terrible. Our table was full with 7 people and it was evening just before sunset. Unfortunately, our table was positioned so that the setting sun was right in the eyes of two guests and of course the people behind them. Whilst, the other blinds were being brought down for all of the other guests our blind was in the kitchen. After asking the management to please close the blind 10 minutes passed and still the sun was glaring. I chose to stand with my back to the sun. 15 minutes later the sun finally set. The management clearly stated to me that they could've closed the blind but chose not to because I solved the problem by standing. What!?!?! Yep, that's exactly what they started and to add insult they said see the sun has set... So although the server and food were great. My $2,375 after tip will never be repeated at this establishment. For context this happened July 30th around 7pm local time.
When I spend near $200 for dinner I expect far more than food that is just a step up from mass market Sysco fare and servers whom are distracted and seem bothered to help me.
Nothing about our evening at PCG was horrid and the food was edible. But outside of the wonderful summers evening view from the restaurant and the classy live pianist, nothing was exceptional either.
I'll go back for Happy Hour at some point probably but likely not for dinner.
My friend took me here for my first visit/night in Portland. They were doing construction in the lobby so it was a little confusing getting to the elevators to the top floor but once we got there, we were seated immediately at the bar. The view of the city is terrific and we had great cocktails. There is very low lighting, so I can see this as a nice place for a romantic date too.
The Portland City Grill is always a delight with beautiful views of the city good service great food and drinks and a fun vibe it's always great when the Piano Man Comes Around and plays his songs as well you can also request a song be played of your choice
Happy hour is where it s at. The view is incredible from the window seats!
I've had the brunch buffet twice. Food and service was excellent and the views are beautiful. Can't wait for my next visit to Portland.
Awesome view and super drinks. Can get a little pricey but its worth the wait and money.
Such a fantastic view, and such an amazing happy hour -- with an additional late-night HH starting at only 9pm! Seriously -- you pay $5-10 for a gourmet meal, while sitting on top of the world in swank surrounds and getting waited on like any minute you're about to start dropping Benjamins on rare whiskey. When in reality, you're an average schmuck in jeans relaxing with a $4 beer & eating an $8 bowl of amazing prawn jambalaya. And they're totally cool with that. I have no idea how this incredible restaurant stays in business, but god bless it.
Weekends, if I remember right, might be a lot different & way busier. During the week it's as chill as can be and at night it's easy to get a window booth (harder for regular happy hour, I hear).
Our favorite spot for anniversaries and special occasions.
Whenever im in Portland I make a point of coming here. Excellent food, friendly yet professional staff, and great views to top it off. There was a possiblem with my porkchops this time around, but the bartender and manager made it right immediately after I said something. Quality gin joint! Will go there again!
Best view with fine cuisine in downtown PDX, a true prime cut steakhouse with outstanding seafood appetizers and entrees
A great view with excellent service and wonderful Happy Hour specials.
Pricy, food was pretty good, but not good enough to justify the prices. View can't be beat.
Love the happy hour. Great place to take out of town guests!
My top spot for quality seafood. Great place to relax, people watch, eat good food or all the above.
Enjoyed a corporate dinner here, food was great but seemed to have a timing problem between courses.
Great views, outstanding food. The ambiance can be a bit dark due to lighting, but this is one of our favorite restaurants. You can never go wrong with the specials menu ;-)
The experience will blow you away! Need to visit at least once for your bucket list!
Great dining experience in the middle of downtown. Expensive but great food and service. Views are wonderful from a window table.
Great view, great service, great food and amazing huckleberry mojitos!
Went there to celebrate husband's birthday. Restaurant at top of high rise bank building in downtown Portland. Restaurant has an upscale feel. Would not take children there. Had early enough reservation to get seat by window. Fills up fast. Wonderfull views. Food was delicious. Waiter patient with questions. Service excellent. Full bar. Bathrooms extra clean. Paid parking close by. W/C accessible.
Awful food and drinks. You go just for the view and to meet friends because it's a Portland "institution"
Great views of portland. Happy hour in the bar is a 5 star experience. Great place for a romantic dinner.
Wonderful late night happy hour, great view and the atmosphere is great!
Went for my 2nd anniversary and it was great! The service was great! And the food amazing! They even had the table decorated with confetti saying "happy anniversary" for us. Would definitely be coming back. My husband and I enjoyed being there!
This place has great food. I had the sushi the last time I went. I didn t expect it to be amazing and it wasn t the best sushi I ever had, or very traditional at all, but it was pretty good. The view is fantastic. Ask to be seated by a window. Worth it. The service is good, although our waiter last time was very over-the-top. I went with a bigger group and everyone felt overwhelmed by him. Overall, this is a great place to eat. It s pretty expensive, but good for every once in awhile.
Probably the best view of Portland. Took out of town family to City Grill for drinks Thursday night and they returned on their own Friday night to enjoy the piano bar and the view.
Love t he Sunday Brunch. All the food is good here. Awesome view and could be romantic.
Portland City Grill is high dining at its best. We made no reservation, but they were able to give us a window seat within 40 minutes on a Friday night. We had an appetizer in the bar while waiting. The live piano and wonderful view from the bar was not disappointing. We were then moved to the dining room where the view only improved. We added sushi to our meal for an extremely reasonable price. The steak was heavenly and that s all I have to say about that. We even enjoyed the desert. To sum up: Atmosphere: Wonderful; Food: Well prepared, imaginative with great plating; I would expect to pay $240 for a meal of this quality with alcohol. We paid $130 for the appetizer, meals, sushi side, desert and no alcohol.
We ordered steak special, which was prepared very well, but the second one was not
