Had my first dinner in Sydney here - great recommendation by our concierge in Metro Hotel on Pitt Street. Food was amazing, especially the lamb dish with pomegranate. Very well-seasoned and well-cooked. The waitress we had was lovely and super helpful. Love this place, definitely worth a visit.

You might have to look carefully for this place on Argyle if you don't know where it is, as most of its "frontage" is along the side. Pony is a great "small plates" place, with a selection of standard items (olives, chorizo, etc.) and rotating items. If someone's paying, and asks me, "Where would you like to eat?", this is generally the place I suggest if we're in the area. I'm not sure I've ever seen children there -- seems to be mostly an adult kind of place, a casual tilt on fine dining.
It's not inexpensive, but a bunch of small plates shared among a few people generally works quite well in terms of everyone finding something they enjoy. There's a mix of relatively normal food with general appeal, and more artisan/gourmet items. I miss the fennel(?) salad with pomegranate that I had there some months ago, that is no longer on the menu. I have always sat outside, where there are long tables with benches, at which groups of diners are seated, one right next to each other. This area is under permanent cover, so it's dry even if it's raining outside. Not much of a view -- the adjoining building -- from here, but when I've eaten there by myself, I've had an interesting conversation or two with adjoining single diners (business people seem to find this place, even though it's a bit out of the way... probably due to the expense account factor).

This place has never disappointed my husband and I. We went tonight for dinner with some family and the new waiter, JJ, was absolutely incredible. He went above and beyond and was so patient and kind. Can t wait to eat here again.

One of the best meals I've ever had. The food, the experience, the customer service, the care and attention definitely was over the top. Got a chance to talk with the executive chef after a superb dessert. If you visit the rocks district of Sydney, you owe it to yourself to dine here!!

Total dissapoinment for us. Restaurant have quite a few options for not red meat-eaters. Crab meat pasta was floating in oil with too much herbs, but still tasteless. French fries portion was so small and sad without any sauce. Burger also was boring and small on the burned bun. These all for 50 dollars. Sorry, but not impressed.

Service was excellent, food was sensational - had the grilled chicken salad with soy peanut dressing, best salad I've had in a long time! The pony express (pony's take on my favourite) was the best espresso Martini I've ever had - and I've had more than a few. I will be back!

Stumbled on this place after a day at the zoo, so arrived pretty hungry
Super friendly staff and very welcoming even when wearing casual clothes!
We order the ocean trout to start, followed by Lamb special and Salmon
Everything was AMAZING, thoroughly enjoyed it all. We even ordered the apple pie for desert

Waited 1and a half hours for food. They tried pushing entrees on us to speed up our mains!!! Wine was very expensive because the cheaper wines were apparently unavailable. After our long wait for food, we offered to pay for wine and leave, when miraculously our food arrived. Never again. A tourist trap.

I've never had a bad experience at Pony. It's definitely my favorite place to eat at the rocks with it's great location and friendly staff. Funny side note - my favorite broccoli in Sydney. 4.5/5 stars.

Staff were not attentive when we tried to get their attention. The food was ridiculously overpriced, and turned out nothing but average. By average, it's nothing you wouldn't find in your local pub down the road. Steak was ok, but nothing out of the ordinary. The only plus side was their cocktail list which was the highlight of the evening.

Good Australian fare in the heart of the rocks. Served in tapas style, you get to try small plates of yummy dishes. Cocktail menu is extensive however drinks did taste a little weak. Food was flavorful but nothing that wowed or was super unique.

Pony's is probably one of my favourite restaurants in The Rocks. The food really is outstanding, and service is great. I definitely over-ate last time I visited. I particularly liked the stuffed capsicums - an explosion of flavours in my mouth. Sweet, salty, spicy, all coming together in this great little dish. The crispy duck salad was also very nice - the duck crispy and well complimented by a salad of beetroot, orange, feta and cucumber. Light and fresh, perfect for lunch. The only downturn can potentially be the long-bench seating arrangement outside, but personally this just adds to the experience.

Modern dining in a vintage restored warehouse setting. Lovely attentive service with an enticing menu. Our meals were delicious, interesting and innovative. Close to Circular Quay, easy parking station nearby, situated in the vivacious Rocks. Highly recommended as a lovely dining experience.

Sadly worst steak I've ever had. Over cooked beyond the medium rare that was ordered and a poor cut. Service staff were nice enough though and offered desert as compensation. Unfortunately they still charged for the steak though at three times the value. Ambience was lovely. Go for a drink there and avoid the food.

We are from Queensland and came for couple weeks in Sydney.
The first and second time we came, the lovely Carla took care of us.Food was excellent the seared kangaroo was amazing. We had hanger steak and fish specials which were cooked to perfection. We waited a little too long for the cocktails but it was worth it, they were perfect.

Food was pretty good. Everything was incredibly tasty and well cooked. But overpriced for what you get. The entrees especially were somewhat tiny in portion size. But I guess you pay for the location. And the staff were really friendly and warm. Good place to go for a post meal drink on a nice summers night if you're in the Rocks area.

Great ambience with seating both inside and out in a central location in the rocks. A wonderful fine dining experience and great drinks to complement the food. Limited vegetarian choice that could use signposting on the menu, and none on the day's specials, but the vegetarian food available was fantastic! Our dishes were beautifully displayed and delicious. Service was good on a very busy day.

I'm always a little sceptical of any restaurant in a touristy location and The Rocks is about as touristy as it gets in Sydney.
But... Pony was a very pleasant surprise. The food was excellent! I had the fig and prosciutto starter which was very delicate and tasty (a tricky combination). My friend had the kangaroo to start which was very light, an excellent introduction to the meat if you've never had it before.
For mains I had the eye fillet steak. It's hard to stand out in the steak market but this was definitely one of the best I've had. The surface was firm but not charred whilst still pink in the middle. Brilliant.
Service was very friendly, again a bit of a surprise but every member of the wait staff was friendly and helpful. They were knowledgeable about the food and wine and made helpful suggestions.

Despite the good ambiance and fine tasting food, the service at the restaurant is extremely inconsistent. We got a table for 3 a little before 9pm and specifically asked for sparkling water assuming there would be extra costs. However, after one pour of sparkling, our server refilled our glasses with tap for the rest of the night. When confronted about it, she explained that they pour a glass of sparkling for around 5 dollars per person and provide tap refills there on after. The bill came and we were charged $17.20 total for what? A third of a glass of actual sparkling water, a glass of extremely diluted sparkling and half a glass of tap each. What a joke.
Our server was also too busy conversing and laughing in French with the bartender to notice that the couple seated next to us were waiting for the bill for at least 20 minutes, while we waited for at least 10. This was after 10pm but the restaurant was still fairly populated. As she rang us up for the bill she was even quite impatient and gave us no sense of privacy as she instructed us how to give tip or not, as if expecting a reward for lying to our faces ( I looked at other google reviews where Pony Dining explained the $5.70 charge for UNLIMITED sparkling water).
There were a few other waiters during our dining experience who were quite professional and friendly, and I m sure our experience would have been much more pleasant had we received service from literally anyone else.

What a surprise! Just wandered past during the day, made a booking and returned in the night. Menu looked good. Great vibe. Warmly welcomed and introduced to our waiter who happened to be French. She was a delight! Fussed over us as we settled in. While having a drink until our food arrived our conversation turned to the background music. We enjoyed the selection and it got better and better...the evening grooved along to the marvellous playlist (created by manager Rebeka ) playing in the background. Mainly blues from the greats and some cracker unknowns (to us anyway) which were interspersed with other genres popping in and around.
Oh yes, the food was see photos.

On our first time eating at this fine dining restaurant we were served very well, service was at its best, and we ordered 2 starters, 2 mains and 1 side.
Seared Kangaroo was top notch and juicy, the refreshing touch of raspberry give the meat a welcoming surprise. Savory yet sweet.
Italian bread and hummus was a good mouth watering starter that kept us ready for our main meal.
The steak, has this special sauce on top of it. The fresh zesty little salad with the sauce made it like fireworks at my mouth.
Risotto, my girlfriend was expecting some meat inside it but overall experience she had was 4/5, the one star is taken away by her expectations.
Overall, great place, great vibe, perfect service.

Loved it. Swayed in by magnificent manager Rebecca who convinced us that we would indeed find great vegan food inside. And she was right. We went back the next night too. Terrific attentive and friendly staff. Not cheap but this is a restaurant in The Rocks district of Sydney. Don't look to the menus, look to the staff for what they can offer you. We'll be back.

What a disappointing experience! Food presentation...
What a disappointing experience! Food presentation very poor. The lamb salad had no greens and lamb fat bits, steak arrived bare no sides, crab pasta had literally 3x pieces of crab, a complete rip off! The burger was positioned in an oily bun and slapped together. There is obviously not much love in this kitchen when preparing food. It s these restaurants that give Australian, Sydney cuisine a bad name when obviously just pitching their poor offering to tourists who will never return. Look at most of the reviews, all from tourists, interesting. Then our bill arrived, totally over the top for the quality and portions! You automatically get pinned for Sunday rate as we had 4 people at the table. So food poor, quality disappointing, value and experience zero. Nothing buzzy nor chic here, just a truly disappointing experience.
