Unfortunately, we had to come here because this is only hospital in our area that had all equipment and specialists in one place. I must first state that the physicians and nursing staff are phenomenal. As for the rest of the staff, i have never encountered a facility where there are so many employees that come in contact with people daily and lack any portion of people skills. Accomodations for families in need of privacy for obvious reasons were not available whatsoever. Common bathrooms were not cleaned, no toilet paper yet Housekeeping was lingering in the area for a lengthy period of time. Front desk personnel was not only mean & nasty, but also ignorant to policies in the department. I am truly wondering what the insurance companies would think if they knew how their money was being spent. Without revealing our intimate details, I am truly disappointed in what is supposed to be a highly rated facility, of which I cannot for the life of me figure out who rated this place. I truly believe the overseers involved in this profession should complete a few more surprise visits here. I would never recommend this place to anyone and it is so unfortunate bc once we got past the front line circus, the true professionals wete a dream come true.
We were driving from Ontario to Florida when unfortunately my wife suffered a stroke in the truck near Hershey PA. She was taken by EMS to emergency. The e/r staff immediately recognized the symptoms and rushed her into ct scan. Long story short my wife will make a full recovery. I have no doubt that if not for pennstate , the outcome would have been very different. Thank you to the nurses and doctors of the vascular ICU. We will be forever grateful.
Worst doctor and hospital experience ever. In ER for heart racing 155 bpm, terrible body pain, blood in urine, migraine. Holiday weekend so couldn't get in to see PC. Was treated like I was an idiot for being in ER. Dr Serano told me that the ED is there to save lives in imminent danger and I wasn't, so he couldn't help me. Got EKG at 7:25 pm. Dr Serano took another 2 1/2 hours to come tell me it was normal and he was going to do nothing for me. When I asked for a urinalysis for uti, he never told the nurse so I waited for another hour until I rang her in and asked again. I asked for pain med and Dr Serrano treated me like I was a drug addict looking to score. Gave IV pain med and nothing to go home with. Holiday weekend = no dr visit for 3 days. After complaining about service to nurse, Dr D'ambrosia came in all of his glory to tell me that Dr Serano was right. I'm not dying currently so go home. ED is for those going to die without help today. When I challenged that drs are to help people in sickness and in pain and the care at the hospital was atrocious and a 4 hour wait in a room after an ekg to tell me that no one was going to help me because I wasn't dying...he got up and told me that he'd refer me to a neurologist and walked out. The WORST patient care EVER!!!! And I echo the reviewer that complained about the conversations between the medical staff. As I sat for 4 hours in pain, the staff was having a merry time using every curse word they could think of loud and clear. This place is horrific. I guess next time I go, I'll just have to make sure I'm minutes from dying.
Dr Guy Slominski ENT - Horrible bed side manner. Will say one thing and then do another. Does not care about what the patient wants. Wasted $30 to wait for an hour only to be lied to because he doesnt want to do surgeries durint covid. Did not even offer to refer to someone who would help. Complained to front desk and will continue to complain. Why am i wasting $30 co pays when your doctors already have their minds made up before they enter the room onlt to ultimately do nothing. I came to your establishment because years ago it was a trusted place to take your loved ones. I pay for expensive health insurance to get help. Not have my time and money wasted. Thanks for nothing. Slominski you should be ashamed of yourself.
I received excellent, compassionate care. I had pain and was seen very quickly by ENT. The staff were kind and professional. The doctor accurately diagnosed the problem and performed a minor surgery on the first visit. I felt better immediately and within days was pain-free for the first time in weeks.
Just like with anything else, the hospital and its staff have their UPS and their Downs but for the most part they are phenomenally great people who care about you and will do their best to ensure your getting the care that you want, desire and need!
I went to Hershey for an emergency situation, and when I was in the observation room some of the hospital staff were talking loudly about my case so that other people could hear it. They were college kids who were never taught how to respect other peoples privacy.
Honestly cooperate greed and lazy radiologist. Went to get an xray for a potential fracture in my wrist on friday. Then to be told I can't get the results till next week because radiologist don't work on the weekends? Shows a complete lack of effort and commitment. The fact that these Petty radiologist care more about their weekend rather than helping people. Which is part of their job description when they applied, astonishes me. I pray that one day people will actually be cared for.
Hershey medical center you really need to get it together. I have never been so displeased in my life. Last night I went into the ER with extreme discomfort in my jaw and facial numbness along with sweating and ear pressure due to a severe ear infection. I arrived about 4 pm and was still not seen at 8 pm. I finally inquired at the front desk where I was in the que and the extremely rude lady at the front desk said they don t have a que it goes by triage. Well, I believe I should have been seen quickly due to my symptoms. So I demanded to see a charge nurse a male nurse came and got me and re-evaluated my vital signs and said they were doing the best they could with the space they had that they were extremely busy. Mean while there was a line out the door, ambulance after ambulance coming in, and more and more traumas. This is a level one trauma center and they do not have the proper staff to run it! Meanwhile they keep buying more and more hospital systems out and building more hospitals! Get it together penn state health people s lives are at risk! It s sad when ppl have switched back to pinnacle health. I may have to do the same! I will never again visit this emergency room I will go somewhere else! I had to give one star to make a comment but it s worth zero stars!
Had to have bloodwork done at their Camp Hill office. They said 45 minutes. I stayed because of the drive. It was 1 hour and 15 minutes and I'm still waiting. And the people went to lunch leaving one person to do tests and take labs. Not coordinated at all!
I would not be alive without out the great team of staff for the treatment for my second from of cancer. Please listen and have a open mind and pray thank you Dr Amend.
I had multiple traumas from a high rate speed motorcycle crash.tanks to the awesome reconstructive surgeons, I can walk and many other functions that they said I wouldn't ever be able to do, they saved my life, literally, mentally and physically. I couldn't ever thank them enough,
They want to talk about how they care about their staff and patients. They boast about their rewards they get for being such an excellent hospital. Did you know that nurses don t really get any discounts when they go to a doctor??? Really?? They are in the works of fixing that in 2018. They care nothing except for the dollar like any business. Don t let the advertisements fool you!!!!
First off, let me say, I love all of my doctors at Hershey- they are wonderful. I'm sure it is the hospital policies that make everyone miserable- doctors, nurses, patients, staff, and families.
My mother was hospitalized last week. Nurses (especially Jill on the 6th floor) treated her horribly and when I spoke up about it, they had security called because they said I "threatened" them. This is the threat: my mom told me she would repay me after she got out of the hospital for all the candy I was bringing her (I wasn't going to accept any repayment for the candy) but I jokingly told my mom, "Don't worry- I know where you live!" Jill, the charge nurse, overheard me say that and thought it was directed at her and that I was going to come to her house to hurt her. A nurse whom I had just met, and didn't even know the last name of, thinks I know where she lives. Talk about ridiculous and paranoid. Jill quickly called security on me.
I was escorted out by two security guards on Saturday, June 23, 2018 and was told not to come back to Hershey Medical Center and if I did I would be arrested by Derry Township Police for criminal trespass. It is Tuesday, and I still am not allowed back by hospital secuirty. I have several severe medical issues myself and I'm afraid to go to their ER if I have a problem for fear of being arrested. (But with the care in the ER, you should just stay home anyhow).
So Hershey Medical Center likes to keep families separated when they need each other the most. I'm in tears right now because I haven't been allowed to see my elderly, sick mom in days. And they call this a place of healing. It is more like a jail.
I was born in Hershey S. Medical Center and PA, great place! Pennsylvania is a woodsman's dream all the forest and trees as far as the sights can see where i grew up
10 out of 10 would recommend! Great staff and service! Waited on me hand and foot and I love the complimentary robes they give you when you check in. Very breathable. Most expensive stay I've ever had for not having free breakfast, but definitely worth it.
In all seriousness, the staff was great and did a great job at communicating through a scary confusing process. As well as providing great medical care.
The care is excellent, but there is no excuse for a 7-10 day wait just for scheduling. I can understand waiting for the actual appointment, but to have to wait for the scheduler's call just to get the appointment is unacceptable. Hire more schedulers!
I went in for pain for the lower abdomen they told me that I had appendicitis then proceeded to do my CT scan on the guy next to me then gave his paperwork to the guy next to him and I'm pretty sure they never looked at my CT scan I was there for 10 hours after 2 hours I never saw my nurse again they did give me a CT scan but I'm not sure it was the right one they had mine mixed up with someone else and I know that because they told me they had everyone's paperwork mixed up it was a complete disaster and a bunch of kids could have done a better job I ended up walking out of the hospital at 4:30 in the morning after arriving there at 6:30 at night it was a miserable and terrible experience and if I'm dying I still will not return.
I'm trying to change an annual appointment with a dermatologist, four months in the future which is a conflict with my schedule. After five phone transfers to different departments and three dropped calls with someone in scheduling, I give up. Talk about a disorganized mess of a health care system.
We are new in the community and prior to coming we did a considerable amount of research about the medical choices. We determined that Milton Hersey Medical Center would probably be our best option. Nonetheless, the after arriving and seeing what was in our community the Pinnacle system offered closer doctors in our area. We did not realize that the two systems do not work closely together. So when I had a cardio problem that required a visit to the ER we went to MHMC even though I had a cardiologist through Pinnacle. When the MHMC ER doctors saw my cardiologist was with Pinnacle they asked why I did not go to Pinnacle. I told them because MHMC is more highly rated. I told them I like my cardiologist but wasn't sure about the Pinnacle Hospital system. But they pointed out again that if you are with Pinnacle you go to Pinnacle and if with Penn State you go with MHMC. I told them I just wanted to get answers to what was going on, we were new in the area, and although I liked my cardiologist I was fine with switching if that was necessary. Upon discharge, when my cardiologist requested my records, MHMC had put in my records that I did not like my cardiologist. This was not true. In fact, I told them I liked my cardiologist! This was not only very embarrassing and untrue but has upset the good relationship I have with him. I have never been to Pinnacle so I do not know if the ratings are unfairly represented for them because most certainly the high ratings of MHMC are not right either. The experience at MHMC was at best a 2 star. From the excessively noisy intake, personal chatter of all the attending staff, to the arrogant attitude of the doctors, we were not impressed at all. The supportive staff were efficient and kind. But there was clearly an ego in air about the medical staff. The one exception would be the nurses in observation and the team of ladies who did my treadmill test. Dr. Wilson possessed a great bedside manner for which we were grateful but my concerns about the medication he prescribed were dismissed and not addressed at all. I left with new information, a new medication, but not able to be confident with the solution. I am following up with my cardiologist at Pinnacle who, now that I have been able to reassure him that the comments which MHMC wrote were not true, is helping me to resolve my issue by listening to my concerns. These unprofessional manners of treating patients confidentiality and care is neglectful.
I had a great experience with this hospital and wish all my medical needs was through Hershey!! The doctors are great and I love that it s a learning hospital! These doctors saved my life and my leg from amputation!!
After 2 consecutive ER visits at GSH in Lebanon and no answers.. We made the trek to Hershey Medical. All the staff from check in, the nurses and doctors were awesome and got to the root of the problem. Thank you so much Hershey!
Dr and staff is good, they don't have proper management, called me for surgery and after surgery said no room available for today and kept me whole night in recovery room..... I didn't like that.....
Visited the Harrisburg location and had two of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. The first was a billing issue which was never resolved. The second issue was when my insurance changed, HMC was to provide my insurer authorization for a prescription. It's been over five months and they are yet to receive it and in the meantime, I've been paying full price for my prescription (thanks HMC). During each long and frustrating phone call I receive a promise from HMC that they will take care of it and they promise a callback, but have failed to do so every time.
We had our son in hospital at Hershey and evey9ne in there treated him so well i couldn't be more happier to had him in that hospital i would recommend this place with 5 star rading
The only reason they get 2 stars is bc they did their job. It just took 8 hours for a xray that mind you they already had. Also to put a cast on (20 mins tops) it s sad to see people that are supposed to save your life and help you out to give you 4 different answers throughout the day of what they think is wrong. Then on top of it they expect a 1.5 month old to not want to eat all day.... Common, get it together for the money we pay in taxes for this place. Disgusted!
Hi ..I recently was admitted and treated at the penn state hershey medical center .. During my stay there was a very nice and pleasant experience . The staff members were helpful and kind . My needs were addressed and taken care of . Clean and tidy .. I thank everyone there for helping me get back to feeling better and back home my questions were answered and explained to my satisfaction. I would not hesitate to return for further medical attention . Thank you again to all the staff members from emergency department and observation crew .. you guys are awesome !!! Sincerely Donna A Meade
ER wait times here are outrageous. Every visit here with a serious fever for any of my kids has resulted in a disgusting wait time of at least 3-6 hours. Little to no care from the employees, most seem to not care about the patients walking in.
My daughter and I went to visit a friend on 12/20. We left the room while the nurses were checking him. While standing outside of the room waiting we were told we couldn't stand in the hall. When I was in last year I had a very nasty nurse take care of me. Is this why you have to get away from rooms so you dont hear the verbal abuse. Sorry to the nurses that are sweet and kind. This isnt about you.
Doctors always behind on appointments. I get they have other patients but don't schedule them over my appointment. Spent 2 hours waiting at the eye doctor. No one let's me know if she's behind or not. All I get is sorry. Sorry don't give me back time or money spent sitting here. I really think they should let us know if your running behind before I came in and waiting with a 6yr old toddler. Antsy as hell. We need to be early come on.
Our aging mother has transitioned through the HMS emergency room, in patient hospital, and rehab center on a number of occasions over the past several months. The staff and level of care she received at all phases of her stays there were top-notch! If you're in need of care... our Mom and family 100% recommend HMS.
Delivered my 9.3lb son here in June 2018. The labor and delivery unit was comfortable and clean! Lynn(older lady) was wonderful and made me feel very comfortable while I was dealing with contractions! She is such a wonderful women and takes care of you and makes you feel right at home! She was working when I went in for my induction and 20 hours later she was there when I gave birth! She really made birth more comforting and talked me through the contractions and birth and everything! If you deliever here, I HIGHLY reccommend asking for Lynn. She is just a blessing!
Honesyly I'd give a ZERO RATING if I could to explain the lack of help we received. Absolutely horrible experience last night. Waited almost 5 hours with my 2 year old daughter just to be told that, "No doctor has even signed up to take her file and that it would probably be a couple more hours before she would see anyone." If you need care, go somewhere else and save yourself the headache!
My girlfriend was suppose to have wrist surgery. Twice we attempted to have the surgery done taking off of work. Each time we weren't able to get the surgery due to lack of information from the staff. Doctors & staff are not on the same page. Can't imagine if my girlfriend actually got the surgery what they would have messed up!
DO NOT COME TO THIS EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT EVER 5 day After my husbands accident and 24 hours after he was discharged we were back in the ER with extreme abdominal pain and possible bowel obstruction. We waited an hour for a room. We saw a doctor for 3 minutes and then no one for the next 3 hours except for the blood draw and X-rays. After pushing the nurse button twice (after 3.5 hours)we finally got someone to come in so we could ask for an update. My husband was not offered any medicine at all. The doctor relayed all info to the nurse while she sat at her computer. Turns out he needed a ct (2.5 hours after the X-rays) it took me screaming to get anyone to help us. Do not come here. Horrible bedside manners from the doctors, lack of communication and poor care
Had my son here in December of 2015 and they were wonderful with the both of us. My nurses were so kind hearted and compassionate. One nurse in particular, her name was Alexis, she was the absolute sweetest. Being a young mom they answered every question thoroughly and helped me deliver my son without being such a nervous wreck. Thank you Hershey!
Was their for 8 hrs and Doctor didn't know what other co-workers were doing. Doctor said he will be right back so he can review my X-Rey and never returned. So gave up after 8 hrs. I walked out and no one was concerned about my auto accident.
Went to the emergency room and waited for 5 plus hours just to be seen for 9/10 pain. Nurse tried to draw my blood and failed. Dug the needle further into my arm and failed. Staff is rude. I've come here a couple times and it's always the same rude service with very long wait times. Go somewhere else if possible. You'll make up the travel time with the wait times. Not to mention I had surgery here and was left with a chronic infection. I wish I would have never gone here.
A year ago I went to the dermatologist here after calling and being assured by the staff that it was COVERED after a $40 copayment (which I paid). I just found out they sent me to collections for $110 for the appointment. I was there for 15 minutes and got prescribed an $8 antibiotic cream. $150, really? Penn State sucks and so does their medical center.
Had a knee replacement by Doctor Nickel. Very positive experience from my first visit to the last. Bedside manners were excellent. The support staffing was just as good. My RN Breanna especially. Wish I had her last name to mention. I rang that bell and someone was right there for me. I highly recommend this facility. Matt Breon
Lousy. Doctor was rude and made me feel like an inconvenience. Waited hours to be told to go see a dermatologist. I won't recommend these guys to anyone.
Dislike throwing all staff away because we had terrific care through decades and our entire family. Really helpful people at Patient Relations and various departments, terrific psych department. Loved Hershey. Had a 3 year nightmare where doc after doc after doc bailed instead of standing up for a kid's care. Crazy stuff- after a certain point, no one- and we contacted administration allllll the way up- responded. We made countless attempts to problem solve in a positive way and were flatly ignored by all except patient relations- they tried and seem to be shut down. One doc? Began following me around OUTSIDE of the center, behind our backs, while we used the resources there, ' testifying' on PERSONAL matters ( which were not true. ) Like being in a bad movie. Whatever is ' wrong ' there, please be careful. Good, professional, compassionate care is there. Not for our kid but we saw it directed towards others.
Editing , year later. Love to be able to say ' Penn State Hershey responded well when requested to review these incidents.' Ignores you, not a peep. Also love to be able to find alternate care for a post concussion, suicidal young man struggling to leave this ridiculous story behind. Nope. We smell circled wagons, not an intention to do their jobs. One is " Do no harm. " , No one will come see the harm they've done.
Wish there was less stars to use to rate this place. Had an appointment here & was given specific directions & used them. When I pulled up, 2 workers outside had no clue what entrance that was & then a few more workers inside had no idea of where the directions I was given. It took 25 minutes to get to the right office & then another 8 minutes to check in which made me late a whole 8 minutes. Waited over an hour & the whole place was almost empty of people that had checked in after me & already left. Asked a receptionist what was going on & she went look into it- she came back saying because I was late it s tsking longer & also there was an unexpected emergency which sounded to me like an excuse as they continued to call the last few people around me. This place I will never return to as it is the most ridiculously set up institution where no one has any idea where anything is. Ended up walking out of Dr. Ross Dectors office suite 3100 after another 20 minutes of watching people get seen & leave.
A terrible hospital, ripe with discrimination (especially financial discrimination, and age discrimination). Don't bother with them if you have Medicare or Medicaid, or if you are on pain medication (even if someone else is prescribing). If you make an appointment, expect to have your time wasted and be treated like human garbage.
My first ever admitted in a hospital for orthopedic surgery. It was really awesome and the treatment I got was so good that everyone involved; all the staff were humble and helpful.
Emergency room: They take their good old time. Act like high school students talking bad about patients in earshot. Stand there talking and laughing to eachother while waiting for someone to do their job. Don't know how to stitch someone up. Place is going downhill.
My son goes to college close to the hospital and needed to have emergency surgery for an umbilical hernia. So instead of bringing him home for the surgery we thought it would be best to take him here since he was close. THAT WAS A BIG MISTAKE! We waited 5 hours for him to get a scan. Then we were told he would be going to surgery at 3, which got moved to 530, and we waited until 10:00 pm to be told they were not taking him but would be first thing the next morning at 830. It is now after 11 and still no surgery AND NO INFORMATION AS TO WHEN! I know if we took him home he would already be back on the road to recovery instead of this ridiculous waiting game. I am a patient person and realize things happen but this is just not acceptable.
Being a PSU Graduate I trusted this healthcare system, I thought since PSU was an amazing place for me the past few years that this hospital would be the same way. I have nothing but disgust for the way that everything is handled. I entered the hospital with breathing problems and sat in the waiting room for 10-15 minutes at 4am. You could tell that I was in distress. Should've taken me back as soon as possible. Not only that but they placed me next to someone who was essentially dying and I was extremely uncomfortable. I was a student and clearly far away from my family. I even asked for a phone to call my mom who lived an hour and a half away because you do not even get cell service. That took them an hour to even do. On top of that when they were doing tests they had to redo them because the nurse clearly had no idea what they were doing. After a nearly 3 and a half hours sitting in the cold room next to someone again who wouldn't stop screaming in pain I was sent home with just an inhaler. I started receiving statements for my bills because I found out that my insurance stopped covering me. Bills kept coming and they would change the total on them. Eventually I received a call from a very very very rude man named Ken in the billing department. If you ever have to deal with him, just transfer yourself to someone else. He is EXTREMELY rude. But it gets better. The next person they transferred me to just laughed at the situation. I was trying to stay as calm as possible because you shouldn't be giving attitude to someone who is clearly caught off guard about the bills and doesn't know exactly what is going on. The billing department is the biggest joke in the entire world and doesn't even care what you have to say. BEWARE, if they send you statements and you are trying to work out something with a financial burden, pay something, or else it will attack your credit report and calling in to figure everything out is a total joke. I am completely done with this hospital. I will make sure that when students contact me to ask where the best place to go for medical issues; I will direct them to either urgent cares or Lancaster general. Hershey Medical Center is the biggest joke ever with the most disrespectful employees I have ever had to encounter.
I am a heart patient with 54 heart catheterization and 22 stents at the beginning of this week I had to go to Hershey medical center for chest pain and had to wate for 2hrs in the waiting room this is the same thing west shore hospital does and Carlisle hospital which I have gone to and are closer . It appears that your system is broken
Waited over 11 hours for belly pain diagnosis, left with nothing. Seen a Dr one time for maybe 10 min and that was it. Had blood work, X-ray and urine done and haven't heard nothing 6 hours later they finally order the ct scan. Been 4 hours since the scan no nurse to be found, no doctor. Requested a drink after 10 hours in the ER, was told they would check. After requesting 1/2 later the doctor finally came in and said she thinks everything looks good but is still waiting on scan to be read will type up discharge papers awhile. Been an hour and still no doctor, nurse, news or drink. While I understand they are a trama hospital they should keep their patients informed, there were plenty of nurses at the station at any given time.
Went to the ER because my wife had severe pain in her lower abdomin. Was never given a room, we were sat on a bed in the hallway and after 2 hours of being ignored, we inquired about how much longer until we get the CT scan we needed and the doctor told us he had not placed the order yet. We waited another hour and a half until finally taken for a scan. After scan we were told it will be another hour til we get the results. DO NOT come to this ER, very unprofessional and careless about their patients.
This is not the worse hospital in the world like one person say's my girlfriend was life lion here on life support she was on it for a month we thought she was going to die but Hershey did there great work she woke up and she is still alive and that was almost a year ago thank you Hershey
I was at this hospital since 11:45am with my girlfriend because shes pregnant n has been bleedin n we didnt get a room til 8:30pm..and we are still here..
I was seen by the neurology department for a skin biopsy and was not informed that it was being sent to an out-of-network lab. I had called in prior to my appointment and was told the biopsy would cost $250, but might now be responsible for $11,800 because of this mistake. I have spent hours speaking with a number of Hershey Medical Center representatives who have been very kind but have not been able to resolve this. I feel that I did everything right as a patient and am extremely disappointed. I'm still hopeful there is something they will do to help resolve this.
Very unprofessional and inconsiderate. You should consider what other people have going on in their lives before you waste their time I've been waiting to have a scheduled c section since 6am, its now 10am. I can't eat or drink anything since last night, I only got 2 hours of sleep. I made plans for my kids, took off work, and rearranged everything for this date (which they picked)!!! So why didn't anyone tell me the possibility of this happening until 5am the day of surgery? I will never come to this hospital again. I should have gone to York hospital like i did last time... Just to update this review, i ended up taking out the i.v. at 9pm n leaving. Still pregnant. I didn't eat since 9pm the night before. They didn't give me anything to eat or drink or even ice chips which i was told i could have, but never brought. The next day i had to return to have a c section, alone this time, since my best friend couldn't take off work another day to be with me. It was horrible. I will never go here again. I didn't even go back for my post partum checkup at 6 weeks because of what i went through there. Ughh. Horrible.
Service was terrible. I dealt with 4 residents who had no clue what they were doing or talking about. I felt as if I didn't matter to any of them. My doctor Dr. Dossett came into the hospital 2 hours late because he was "on his tractor". I don't care who you are. Your personal free time activities should never interfere with patient care. There are some skilled doctors here, however you have to sort through the rubbish to find them. I will never return to hershey med and I live 5 minutes away.
My wife was having issues with dizziness and pressure/pain in her head which was now affecting her vision. So being life, limb, or eyesight, I took her to the ER instead of waiting to get a doctor appointment. After sitting in the waiting room for 5 hours she still had not been seen by anyone, we left. I realize after spending that much time in the waiting room that 95% of the people that come to the ER, do not have an actual emergency. It's things that could wait for a doctor appointment or they just don't have insurance. Technically my wife fell into this category, however with the problems affecting her vision, we didn't want to mess around and wait. Regardless, this lack of service is unacceptable. Especially from a hospital that is widely regarded (or used to be) as a premier hospital. This place is a joke.
Meg and Matt in the er were friendly professional and knowledgeable. Jaime in recovery was very attentive and sweet. Every attending and resident were understanding and very detailed oriented. Our experience with the entire pediatric department was amazing
I went from a one star because the wait was very long...very but once back into the ER room the staff was excellent! Great care. If the wait was shorter 5 stars would be in order. Thank you for looking after my wife.
Will not return!!! This was my experience old but still true daughter had clogged tear duct Went to appointment and tried to check in only to see a sign asking for $5 with no questions to be asked by patient and cannot be turned into insurance ...of course I asked what it was for and my appointment was cancelled on the spot without explanation Sounds like fraud in my opinion lost a day of work daughter never was seen first and last time I will ever go there
Please go elsewhere. You would have better luck at Lebanon hospital. Went here because I was unable to walk because of my back. They could care less. I waited over 3 hours just to be ignored and given fluids due to dehydration and an aleve injection for pain. I didn't want pain medicine I wanted something to take down the swelling because I couldn't breathe. Again they did nothing. Will never return, it wasn't inviting at all inside, felt like a dungeon and they were so unorganized and privacy for patients was horrible. They were so loud with asking patients questions about personal information and wouldn't close curtains. What a joke. Milton Hershey would be appalled.
This is specifically a review of the 2nd floor MICU. I had a full blown heart transplant thru HMC and lived on the Heart and Vascular Unit for 5 months with Total Artificial Heart. I love the cardiac staff. I landed in the MICU due to unrelated blood Sugar issues. These are the worst nurses I've encountered in 20 years of frequent hospitalizations.
Where to start? *They insisted on doing a skin assessment and "clean up" when I arrived (I'd showered 4 hours earlier) and never did it again for my 2.5 day stay. No toothbrush or paste, no towels - couldn't even get the nurse to refill my water (despite admitting with dehydration). Neglect is the byword, and the nurses cover each other when you call them on it.
*10 sticks to get 2 sucessful IVs placed. I asked for the IV team repeatedly for 1.5 days but was told by 3 nurses they wouldn't come to MICU. I was told by the IV team later that they "go to 2 all the time" (when someone finally called them. The nurses were mad that I accused them of lying to me.
*Broke every sterile blood draw protocol in the book. I'm post transplant and immune compromised, but got attitude from 3 different nurses when I wouldn't let them tear the fingers out of thier gloves. One walked away and left a tourniquet on me for about 5 min, then was bewildered that she couldn't place the IV.
*Elderly woman across curtain was verbally berated by several male and female nurses for not speaking loud enough. My nurse attended her and walked away after a few minutes after saying (loudly) "I can't hear you, I GIVE UP." A female nurse told her a few minutes later (they'd been with her for maybe 7-10 min at this point), "You're bed is going to have to stay where it is. I can't spend 20 minutes with you. I have a whole unit of people to save." Messiah complex much? The same nurse later basically refused to call my doctor to see if they could prescribe something for my cough.
There's serious, dangerous protocol and patient neglect - and not because they were busy. I lived on a more acute ICU for 5 months, I know what "busy" looks like. These clowns sat at thier stations while alarms and bells went off sometimes for 10 minutes (at the longest).
The icing on the cake was the construction going on above my room that vibrated the walls starting at 5am. When I mentioned it I was told it was out of thier control.
There are fantastic nurses at HMC but this particular crew has somehow bonded together over thier mutual burnout, irritation with patients, and sloppy follow through. No empathy, no bedside manner, no accountability. Mainly a bunch of put upon 20 year olds who are punching the clock. The most terrible 3 days I've ever spent in the hospital. And that says alot considering my history. Avoid unless death is impending.
The Hershey Medical Center Patient Portal is horrible. If you want to pay a bill, there is no way to find it unless you have the latest paper bill they mailed you. Each one has a different number on it so you have to be sure it is the right one. Also, test results have next to nothing and the Portal is certainly not user friendly. Hey there HMC, have you heard of MyChart? The portal, the rooms, the prejudice, the lack of support if someone has to go to a different facility to get a procedure you won't do is atrocious. Makes me want to move.
My 47 year old son has angino. He had a heart cathitor done. The doctor said he needs a ct scan done and they will call him for an appointment to have this done. 10 days later he is still waiting for ct scan of his heart. I consider this poor quality of patient care. If my son would have went into the Pinnacle Health care, his problem would have been resolved.
neurology unit at 30 Hope Drive charges you $120+ extra just to use the building to see your doctor not included with your normal charges with insurance, what a rip off unless you have money to throw away!
I was in for a scheduled right knee replacement on June 20th. That was scheduled since January. I had to arrive by 6:15am that morning of surgery. My Sister brought me in as I would be staying there over night in a bed and a room. Which I was told. Things got off to a late start as they were short handed at admissions. Then upstairs was also running late. I was okay with all that cause theses things come up. The staff was great and kind! When it was finally time for me to go to surgery and get out of the gurnee that I was in for over 2 hours to go on to the OR table. My sister stayed as long as she could but, then had to go to work. So, my daughter came in. It was like 12:40pm I remember slowly waking up in the recovery room to them putting in the nerve block pump into my leg. ED was my nurse and a great one he was! It took two trys for the pump to get it in. But, then it was in. I was in a lot of pain but, ED was doing a wonderful job at keeping me as comfortable as can be. Well, as time went on and people came in the recovery room that I was in. I was waiting on a room and bed forever.. and I do mean forever! The time had past and other patients came and went to other rooms. But, not me! I watched the clock go and time go! 5 patients came in that recovery room with me there and left and I was still there! No bed no room to move to!! Shifts changed for nurses and there I was still there in the same genre for over 12 to 14 hours if you count before surgery and the on the OR table! This is NOT acceptable for any human being to inderal! Especially not one that just had major knee surgery. Nobody seemed to know what happened to her bed for me and how hard it was to order just a regular bed to get me and nor did they have answers to while there was no bed nor a room for me it's just not acceptable. My emotions and my pain and my feelings of how all that experience one is something I will never forget and I never ever want to experience again in my life. It is unthinkable that they have no explanation of why I cannot be put into a regular bed or have my room it just makes no sense and no apology can make up how I feel. Ed Diel RN PACU was my nurse until at least 8pm on the 20th.He was awesome! I also had Racheal, Bonnie, Melissa and Marie the time I was in there. All very good. I really deserve the right to know what happened to me and my room and bed?! On the 21st a gal came in from care Experience and I told her what had happened. She was very sorry, and said, that she has never had that happened. And she said she would look into it for me. I hope so because I think somebody really does need to look into that because if it happened to me it's gonna happen to somebody else and it should not happen to anybody and I certainly would not want it to happen anybody. She gave me $10 gift card at giant. Thank you. But, really that is nothing compared to what I had Endured. Something somewhere lacks within the communication and they administrator or anything higher up and it needs to get fixed immediately!
