Worst hospital in the ENTIRE STATE of NJ. I am for...

Worst hospital in the ENTIRE STATE of NJ. I am forced to frequently go to the Frederick B. Cohen Cancer & Blood Disorder Center because it is the only hospital in the state that can treat my illness. Every time I go there it has to be an epic ordeal- the doctors are always swamped because there is never enough staff, which leads me to believe they have a super high employee turn-over rate. I am always forced to wait 2 to 3 hours AFTER my appointment time to see my doctor- what is the point of having APPOINTMENT TIMES if I always wind up waiting more than two hours to be seen? Forcing me to miss my ride (I am disabled and have to rely on car service which is difficult to schedule).

The Cardiovascular Department is also a hot mess. I was to be scheduled to have a right-heart catheter done in March- the entire month goes by without it being scheduled, I had to make a thousand confused phone calls just to get the thing done while my heart condition got worse due to their LAZINESS. What sort of ghetto hospital has the patient schedule their own heart procedure? I guess I have to do the procedure on myself too! Bottom line: because this hospital serves a mostly BLACK population they don't seem to care to run the place properly. I can't know for a fact but I believe if I had private insurance, white skin and my name was Susan I would be getting much better care. Period.

How is it a woman can be in labor but only allowed...

How is it a woman can be in labor but only allowed two guests including the father? Not only that the staff/security are RUDE!! This has to be one of the most unwelcoming hospitals I have been in BY FAR! The staff didn't even want us (the Family) to sit in the VACANT "waiting room" so we can switch In & Out to support the mother in labor. They ended up allowing us in the waiting room after making a fudd but didn't allow us to switch In & Out of the room to see her. I have been to many hospitals due to my field of work & this indefinitely is the worse hospital I have been to! They did NOTHING TO comfort/accommodate the mother or family during a time that is supposed to be joyous. I'm disgusted.

Well the one nursed lie to my mother and I. We were sent to the front desk at the ER for a room. The nurse asked if she could help me. Told her the other nurse told me to ask the room number for my mom. She said no sorry I have no rooms available. Then came the other nurse said I have your room #1. The one who lied didn't even apologize. Just a simple "ma'am I'm sorry I wasn't informed". I was pissed. Otherwise the nurses have a great sense of humor

I have been going to Saint Barnabas hospitals for the past 35 years but Newark Beth is the absolute worst. Never spent less than 3 hours wait to see a physician in the ER. Vacant room waiting time is even worst. Seems like there are millions of dollars being spent on its Livingston ficility but only pennies spent on thier Newark ficility. If my family was not here to look out for me I would probably be better off never coming to Newark Beth ever.
P.S. whom ever the cook for Newark Beth is needs to spend a long weekend brushing up his/her cooking skills.

The owner or leadership at this hospital needs to be aware of the unfair operations of the Case Management and Discharge Planners on staff. If a loved one or patient wants to go to a certain nursing home or not, they have favorites because they used to work there
or maybe they are getting kickbacks. Alaris SNFs and South Mountain and others get a majority of the patients leaving hospital.

Why are some marketers granted access to hospital while others are never allowed in? Isn't the Assist Director leaving to work for Alariss soon? TOO MUCH GREED instead of good.

Horrible. The food is horrible. The rooms were dirty. Never knew that Saint barnabas was a luxury until I had to stay at Beth Israel. They are "connnected hospitals" but totally different services.

I dislike* this hospital more than anyone can imagine. After my mom's stroke she was moved down from icu to a different unit. My mom had a massive stroke and can barely communicate with anyone. I took pictures of how she was left in her urine and feces and no one could tell me when she was cleaned. As if I am not worried enough about her getting better, our family and friends have to stay at the hospital late at night in shifts just to see if she is okay. What makes it worse is that some of the staff here only move and do work when you want to file a complaint or when they notice that you are concerned and will document everything. On the bright side, we have met some great nurses in this unit that have been so helpful and give us as much information as possible. Nurse like them put us at ease, but they are few and far between. If it is an emergency and your loved one is admitted here please be cautious and stay on top of the staff and transfer them as soon as possible.Ask questions, write down the name of everyone you speak to and take a photo of their board so that you document the care plan & etc. The care here is too inconsistent and you never know who or what you are going to get. Your loved one is important to you and with the amount of stress that you will feel due to his/her condition, the last thing you need to stress about is the care that he/she is receiving.

I recently had my surgery in this hospital and I was provided excellent care from the surgeon and nursing staff in pre and post unit and the operating room staff. The nurses and the anesthesiologists were very professional, exceeded my expectations. The bathrooms in the recovery room are very clean and well maintained. My surgery was done in a timely fashion. To top it all, there was the free service car who brought me from my house to the hospital and back to my house after surgery. The hospital made it so convenient , great help for patients.

I am currently in the pediatric unit with my child...

I am currently in the pediatric unit with my child at Newark Beth Israel Hospital. I must say the only thing that saves this hospital is the staff. And I mean the nurses, can't say much about the physicians since I've barely seen one since I've been here. The nurses who cared for my daughter have been great. I wish I could rate my experience based on the them but there's so much more to a good experience than just the staff. For example, My daughter was placed in a semi private room with another child who cried for atleast 4 hours. When I asked for another room I was told they'd look into it and that was 3 hours ago. I'm still in the same room with atleast 3 empty rooms on the floor. Next, the iv pump is beeping because it says low battery. I asked a nurse to please make the beep stop and she said that they don't have any more pumps left and that I have to deal with it unfortunately. The pump beeps every few minutes with no way to adjust the sound. So for a whole overnight my daughter and I were kept awake by the sound of a beeping pump every few minutes. So I have the crying baby and pump to deal with. I realize that a crying baby is not a nurse priority and something to deal with on a pediatric floor but to have me in a semi private room with a poor kid who won't stop crying for hours is unreasonable. I almost took my daughter and signed her out AMA. I also have a problem with how the parents are treated here. Why should my daughters father and I have to choose which of us will stay with our own child? We both want to be with our daughter why should we have to choose ? There's no way for a parent to get comfortable. They have chairs for parents to sit in and 1 recliner. So basically one of the parents is comfortable while the other sits on a chair for hours while dealing with their sick child. There's no place for a parent to wash up I have to leave my child to go outside the unit every time I have to use the bathroom and then also try to shower over the sink. My daughter was placed in a large room with another bed. The room is so large they decided to store medical equipment in it. So in the room with my daughter and the other patient is whole bunch of medical equipment (from wheel chairs to computers) just thrown. So nurses come in and out grabbing equipment. I just can't believe this is Newark Beth Israel. I heard amazing things about this place and when I arrived here I could not believe this is what people talked about. I wish I could post the pictures I took of the room I'm in. It's shameful. I will never come back to this place again or recommend it to any of my friends or family.

I had surgery here 2 days as go. I gave this review 4 stars instead of 5 only because when I was in the recovery room I was informed that I wasn't getting a room upstairs, as it was given away, which I was not happy about since I would have to stay in recovery overnight. I want to give a HUGE shout out to the nurses who took care of me in the recovery room! They went above and beyond to make an uncomfortable situation as tolerable as possible! Danny was wonderful! He got me into a private recovery room, got me a more comfortable bed so I wouldn't have to sleep on a stretcher, brought me snacks, drinks blankets, and checked on me a lot to make sure I was okay. He even stayed past 11:00 p.m. after a very long shift to make sure that I was settled in for the night, and checked on me first thing the next morning when he came in for his next shift, even though he wasn't assigned to me the next day. My overnight nurse, Carol, and my morning nurse Rosemary were wonderful as well! They did everything they could to make me comfortable. Thank you!

My experience with this Hospital I must say was pretty good. Even though I lost my child which was the most painful thing i have ever gone through, all the doctors and the nurses were excellent. The only small problem I have was the lady registering me she had a little attitude. But I definitely would recommend.

I am very disappointed! Even today, days later, I can't believe it! I was on January 8th in the emergency room! I waited almost an hour to be seen! In the service the doctor did not evaluate my body and prescribed an ointment that I was already using from Walgreens! it was the same! and the hospital charged me almost $ 400! I came home with pain and another debt! i don't speak english well, i'm an asylum! but I deserved better service for the amount paid! I do not recommend this hospital! bad experience!

This was my first time visiting a hospital in New Jersey and I can honestly say from beginning to end the service was great ....there was not a long wait my nurse and doctor was very caring and checked on me even the discharge nurse was super pleasant...the longest wait was for an escort to go to xrays, which I could have walked myself and there (no blaming anyone I was think he had to get a wheelchair but I didn t need it so he let me walk).Excellent bedside manor and just a pleasant team and they diagnosed me and gave me what I needed.

I came to this hospital because my sons ent Doctor worked out of there and he had to have the surgery done. If I knew that I would have such a horrid experience I would have gone to another ent doctor. From the moment we registered to going up to my sons room after the surgery was a 7 hour wait to be brought up to the room! Te only reason I got moved up to the room was because I went upstairs and said I was NOT moving until I spoke with a supervisor.
The only thing that was good about this was my doctor. My sons tray for the food didn't come Til 12pm in the afternoon from the day after the surgery. Can you imagine!!!?
I am sick to my stomach thinking that people could experience this after me... If you could avoid this hospital please do so at all cost!

I was a patient here years ago in the psychiatric adolescent facility and vividly I remember the staff teasing us and treating the other patients like jokes and being extremely rude, (I remember being scolded for wanting to brush my teeth before breakfast??) and being cold literally EVERY night to the point where I was afraid I d catch strep from another patient who had it at the time, since it was November. Besides that, this hospital did celebrate thanksgiving with a feast and that was admirable. Definitely somehow not as bad as Carrier Clinic.

I gave 5 stars because I had my daughter there in 2016. She was NICU and while I was there I heard an announcement for CPR class for newborns. I went to the I thank God I went because now 2019 on 1/5 I didn't know my 10 month old son got a hold of a Poland spring water bottle top . I almost went crazy when I noticed he was choking. I remembered the steps from the CPR class and was able too remove the top within 30 seconds. It felt like forever. I recommend that these classes are mandatory before taking infants home. Now I'm looking to find a CPR refresher course.

I had a extremely great experience with Newark Beth Israel. From the moment I arrived to the moment I left it was positive. I was there to deliver my son. I was there a total of 4 days and each day the staff was amazing. Each nurse and doctor was patient, reassuring, knowledgeable, quick responding, and friendly. I m very happy with my treatment and my sons treatment at this hospital. I definitely recommend this hospital. They even give you a cake on your release date which I though was very sweet of them. My Dr choose this hospital and I m thankful he did. Thank you Dr Antonio or Rejuv Gynecology & obstetrics and the wonderful nurses and staff at Newark Beth Israel for a safe and happy birthing experience. I ll remember this experience forever.

I had a same day procedure yesterday that required...

I had a same day procedure yesterday that required me to be held overnight due to some surgical complications. Overall, I had a wonderful experience with only two complaints that need identified.

Firstly, during the intake process I was asked to pay my full deductible prior to service. While I understand that the hospital and doctors need paid, I just don t expect to pay my full deductible prior to service when i have already established claims against that deductible from other providers prior to this visit. Furthermore, I pay from a flexible spending account and need to submit an EOB with receipt of payment to validate my expenditure. While this is a relatively new approach to me for medical payment, and appears to be a bit aggressive, I do realize that lot of patients skip out in payment so I understand their need to collect payment whenever possible. Needless to say, I declined and asked to be billed. Also, during intake I was asked to sign my name on a signature capture device but was not afforded any written explanation of what I was signing my name to. The intake staff informed me that the monitor was not working. I felt this was unacceptable as all patients should be afforded visual evidence of the forms to which they are signing their names to. Therefore, I asked them to print out the forms and manually signed all to ensure I was fully informed of what was being communicated.

The surgical staff was great. As I already have a solid relationship with my surgeon (Dr Mammis) and his team I don t need to reiterate how wonderful his team is as this review is purely about Newark Beth Israel Hospital staff.

After surgery I was placed in the Post Op area and was treated by 2 nurses. Stacie and Dino. Overall, Stacie was rude and disrespectful. Spent most of her time looking at her phone and spoke condescending to both myself and my wife. Stacie even repeatedly mispronounced my name in a vulgar manner on three ocassions and didn t correct herself after being told the correct pronunciation each time. She purposely chose to be offensive. However, Dino was an excellent caregiver and provided me with the utmost courtesy and professionalism! Dino was constantly working on getting everything I needed for transfer to radiology for a CT scan and then ultimately to my room upstairs. I cannot emphasize how far Dino went to ensure that my stay was as pleasurable as possible. A true professional who really enjoys his work and insures all patients under his care are treated with dignity and respect!

After I made it to my room I was under the care of a nurse by the name of Holly (4th floor Section B). Holly was wonderful and a pleasure to interact with. While my time was brief on this floor, Holly made sure that I was given everything I needed to be as comfortable as possible. She also took the time to explain everything regarding my case to the day shift nurse although i was discharged shortly thereafter. Holly also treated me with dignity and respect, another true professional!

In closing, I have been hospitalized a few times over the past year and have experienced several interactions with medical care staff, mostly nurses, who do not put forth caring principals into their body of work. I can honestly say that both Dino and Holly made a painful event much more tolerable by being passionate, sympathetic and understanding of my condition and the care that s needed. It really makes a difference knowing that quality staff are looking over you while you are in a time of great need. Because of this experience, I can look past the negative experience of one individual and feel that Newark Beth Israel Hospital is a highly recommended hospital for your care.

This is the worst hospital I have ever been to. It is absolutely disgusting and dirty. There was a literal needle with blood on the floor of our exam room. The bathroom was disgusting and didn t have toilet paper. There was also absolutely no sense of urgency for a medical matter that was time sensitive. If I could rate them zero stars I honestly would. Do not come here!!!!

You couldn't find a better heart transplant program if you tried. 3 years ago, this program took in a very sick, and very, very scared 26 year old and gave him a chance to live the rest of his life. A mere 5 and a half weeks post surgery, he was back on a baseball field playing the sport he loved.

The doctors, nurses, even the facilities staff cleaning the floor were so kind and helpful. It's moments like those that you remember for the rest of your life, when you needed someone to lean on, the entire hospital staff was there. 3 years later, even the Chef at the Green Room remembers me and we talk as friends whenever I come back to visit other sick patients.

From the bottom of my [STILL NEW] heart, thank you. You saved my life and I support this program without reservation.

Filthy hospital dried blood on the floor in the triage room that I was in. I asked if they could call housekeeping they called an hour later. My IV was backing up with blood, while the nurse was checking my sugar. She said I'll call someone to flush the IV for you, an hour later I found another nurse to do it but by that time the IV bag was completely filled with blood. She changed the whole bag but dripped more blood on the floor and left ot and left the old IV bag in the sink, unsanitary.

In 2009 I came into the women center because I was referred by my OBGYN do to my high risk pregnancy. The doctor that was going to take me on as his client had a mild heart attack. By my 3rd visit I was upset because at this point I saw 2 other doctors. At this point a lady doctor walks in and she had given me a good vibe about her and she told me I'm going to take care of u n ill be ur doctor for the rest of ur pregnacy. I was so relived. Her name was doctor Antonia Penny! when I went into labor I was told that one of use wasn't going to make it, the baby or myself and who should they focus on. Well of course being mother I said take care of my child. The doctor had a team of doctors for and one for my baby on call. On July 2, 2009 I delivered a baby boy. My body has shut down. at this point my kidneys and everything else went really bad for me. I gave birth on a Wednesday and didn't wake up until that Sunday at 12 some thing am. I wasn't mobile from my breast down. I had no feeling n I could move. I wasn't able to see my baby for over a month, because I was in ICU and I was given 38 bags of blood transfusion on top of that. all of this to let u you that Im so thankful for doctor for doctor penny and her team. love u guys

Worst worst worst ever ! I can t even express how upset I am at the moment just being here as I m typing this review! My mother got finished with her surgery at 2:30pm. It is now 5:00 A.m we are still waiting on her room.... that is all of a sudden available at 7:00 am..... discharges start at 11:am. What is the point if she got left in recovery all night because her room wasn t available. It all sound like a bunch of bs. Used to be ok but is terrible now. I had my firstborn child here 5 years ago and they told me he was borderline jaundice and to come back in 2 days for retesting. I had to come back 3 additional timea for more blood to be drawn because it kept coming back inconclusive. They asked me to keep coming back but I eventually just gave up and started going to my sons actual pediatrician. Just had another baby this week and they told me the exact same thing and to come back for retesting. The nurse became belligerent when I told her that I would rather do it through labcorp than the hospital. Insists she will continue to call until I come in.
Its obvious the set up unnecessary appts to siphon all that they can from your insurance. Will not be coming back here.

NOW the hospital IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY: The staff is friendly from the receptionist and security guard that greeted us at the ER all the way down to the housekeeper, doctors, patient tech and let's not forget my favorite person, the ER nurse Natalie who wass a gods send she is caring, attentive and informative as to all the procedures being done. I wish there were more nurses like her.

the ER receptionist was curteous and respectful she even attempted to speak in my dads language.

we got here at 8am and by 12pm we already had all the bloodwork, EKG, xrays my dad needed DONE. the interning doctor had already came to see him, the nephrologist had already stopped by and explain the next steps for us and we were only waiting to receive his dialysis treatment.

Thank you guys for all you have done

Worst hospital ever. My husband went last night, h...

Worst hospital ever. My husband went last night, he was there 3 hours no one called him, for a swollen, possibly broken hand, the over night shift is rude and unprofessional as HELL! We left because we were tired and just through. Went back this morning hoping the day staff would be better, no avail, he got there 11a.m. and left at 5:15p.m. He has a fracture of two fingers, they put a splint on it and told him he needs to see his primary for a cast. They treat you based on your insurance, which is why they put the splint on it instead of casting it themselves, he has great insurance but didn't have the card on him. Where do they do that at!? This hospital has the worst care, the worst staff, and it's dirty! I can't remember the last time I saw an emergency room that filthy. And no thanks on responding and saying who I can call because nothing is going to change, I just hope to deter someone else from wasting their time.

I am very grateful for the diligence and dedication of the whole hospital. They seem to care very much for people. They seem to take many cases that other places are not interested in. They are willing to work through all the red tape that some insurance companies have, rather than simply saying we won't deal with that insurance on this. I guess I am saying the hospital does its best to work with poor people and difficult cases even when it takes lots of time to get it done. In other words I found that as we patiently waited our way through every turn it all worked out well in the end. Newark is not known as the most polite town in New Jersey, so imagine this hospital has many 'difficult' people to deal with some in very difficult situations. Honestly the number of nationalities, speaking various languages or broken English, or even slurring because they are drunk or mentally impaired and unassisted by loved ones of their own... It must take a real caring heart to work in the place. It is NOT the suburban hospital, but compared to other countries or nontreatment in suburbia it is GREAT. Hope that helps...

At the ob/gyn ultrasound yesterday. I went there from work and at the time it was my turn on the waiting list, I was hungry, tired and cranky. Mayya was the staff that did my ultrasound. She noticed my distress immediately and made sure I had something to eat and drink. I became so relaxed that I find myself laughing at everything she was saying. She is an Angel and a hardworking woman!

My brother died as a result of Beth Israel's poor care. When admitted he was in the ER for hours finally sent to CCU for one day. Subsequently put on a telemetry floor where he wasn't monitored because CCU needed a bed and he went into Cardiac Arrest and died. Newark Beth Israel needs to be closed. The nurses called to have his organs donated without his families consent. I had to literally tell off at least 3 individuals before the hospital would release his body to the funeral home after they made several attempts to pick him up. It gets worse but I don't have the strength to go into further detail without having another breakdown.

Horrible experience. That emergency room is the worst. The doctors treated me horribly until I left. No compassion or sensitivity. The only reason you're getting one star is because of Nurse Malcolm he was great . Everyone else

Horrible If you work here you will be disrespected and if you try to fight back people will do whatever it takes to make your life a living hell even if you're not bothering them they go out of their way to try and get you fired or in trouble for doing nothing because they don't like you if you're in the medical profession I guess it's something that's part of the business but if you're not in the medical profession I wouldn't recommend working here you will regret it.

Worst experience of my life. I was sent to Beth Is...

Worst experience of my life. I was sent to Beth Israel 2014 to their care unit for mentally unstable teenagers. I went to the ER after a suicide attempt and was then sent to Beth Israel for them to help me recover. I had been on the edge, wondering whether my life was worth it or not, and they made me feel worth even less. I was told that there was no way I suffered from severe depression like the other teens or that I should even be there because my grades were good, I had friends, and I was still on track for graduation and college. I had to lie to everyone, which was very easy, telling them I was fine and my suicide attempt wasn't something I truly wanted--just to get out of there. I was released the next day. Due to the way the staff and administrators treated me, and in my mentally unstable state, I went as far as to plan to commit suicide just to spite everyone there who looked down upon me and treated me like a waste of time. I can now proudly say, in 2018, that I love my life in no way thanks to Beth Israel. Going to this center was the lowest point of my whole life.

This review is only aimed at my experience simply trying to pay my hospital bill. It has been a nightmare trying to zero out my balance, I have been told something different by every person I have talked to, and I don't know what else to do than escalate the issue with legal action. As someone who works in healthcare, it has been an extremely humbling experience to be on the other side of such poor customer service.

I am adding an addendum in response to the below comment: Yes, I have contacted the patient experience department, and per their instruction have left a message with the assistant vice president of billing. She reached out to me yesterday and rudely told me that she didn't know the details of my situation and wouldn't be able to help me until "maybe tomorrow." It's nearing the end of the day, and I still haven't heard from her. I have zero confidence she is willing or able to help resolve my situation.

DO NOT GO TO BETH ISRAEL HOSPITAL!!!! I went to Beth Israel Hospital on Newark, NJ to get my are checked out! My doctor suggested them. I should have went to another hospital!!!! Now, I used my health insurance, which had. POS component, if that matters. Beth Israel had this o formation when I scheduled my appointment to get am MRI and X-ray done. Beth Israel knew what my health insurance covered prior to me going their for my appointment! Beth Israel should have know the costs of my MRzI and X-ray because I'm pretty sure they do thousands of the every year! However. Beth Israel charged me $300 more than what my insurance covered!!! I even asked Beth Israel beforehand if they took my insurance and if I was covered. They told me that I was! Unfortunately, they did not get the extra charges from me! I never paid them and told my insurance company as well! I DO NOT GOT TO BETH ISRAEL FOR ANYTHING! Maybe they saw my insurance and felt they could charge extra. I am really not sure. But what I am sure of is that I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO GO TO BETH ISRAEL UNLESS YOU ARE UNCONSCIOUS AND HAVE NO OTHER OPTION!!1 Maybe they are Insurance Happy!I DUE TO THIS I HAVE STOPPED GOING TO BETH ISRAEL. ITS BEEN YEARS NOW! If my doctor recommends Beth Israrl or if I am looking for a Specialist. I Do Not Chose Beth Israel, NEVER!!! ITS NOT WORTH IT!!!

Waited in the registration area for an hour!!! My appointment was at 2 and I arrived at 1:40. This made me late for my appointment! I had to wait an additional hour to be seen and was late to pick up my son from school. The service here sucks and almost everyone is rude when you ask a question or confront them about the amount of time you ve been waiting! I HATE coming here!!

My mother was admitted to the hospital on Wednesda...

My mother was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday of this week. On the day of discharge which was today, after returning from dialysis she was very weak, she called several times for the nurse and no one came, she then called me at home. I called the hospital several times and could not get through when I finally got through the nurse claimed he was not on the floor at time time when she was calling, I asked him wasn't there anyone else who would have seen or heard her calling and he avoid answering me. I was on the phone with my mother while she yelling to the top of her voice for someone to come and assist her and no one came. It is sad that some people do not realize that this could be them laying in a hospital bed being very sick and no one would come. This is not the first encounter with this hospital and the poor service which they give to the residents of the Newark area. Some of the staff do realize that is because of these very patients why they have a job. No patients, no hospital, no job.
