I really want to like this place, and it is priced fairly reasonably, but the food is completely average in my experience. Maybe I have been ordering incorrectly (based on others' reviews of this place) but none of the pastas I've tried have stood out in any way. Try Giacomo's!

Its a cozy place with great pasta and really good cookies and cake. The parking lot is small so parking is hard when it's peak hours. They serve coffee and salads as well. My favorite is the chicken parm my kid likes the Alfredo though.

Staff is super friendly, and always willing to give you great feedback on any choices or questions you have on meal items. They move food out super fast and efficiently which is amazing considering how busy they are on every single night. Hands down, one of the best italian restaurants in the country.

Cafeteria style joint, I liked the food, but the price and the look of the establishment doesn't add up. There's no service, you have to pick up your food, but they make sure you tip at the register. I've eaten better Italian in a nicer place, and paid less.

Always a great place to grab a salad/ pasta and a glass of wine. They do have an issue of running out of tables at dinner time, though. It can be a bit chaotic as it's order at the counter. A lot of the customers were really lingering after dinner, but unfortunately there isn't much you can do about that I suppose. Wish they would just go next door to Camerata!

Love, love, love this spot! A friend recently moved back to Houston and this is the first place I took her. Right down the street, amazing menu, always on top of the cookie game, and great atmosphere!

I really enjoy the food, BYOB, and casual atmosphere of this establishment. The staff is always friendly and attentive to their customer needs. We had planned to try a different establishment this evening but all we're glad we stopped by. Definitely a destination restaurant for people visiting houston, but bring a BIG appetite!

Love this place for lunch! They have awesome hand made pasta and Paninis. Vegetarian friendly and they do half off bottles of wine for happy hour 12-4. They have a small outside area if you bring your dog but it does face the sun.

Home-made Italian fare -- "like grandma used to make." Pasta is made in-house, which is always fresh and flavorful. I'm a huge fan of the bucatini amatriciana if you are down for a major spice experience. Their spaghetti Caesar pairs well with so many of their dishes -- so don't hesitate to ask to sub it on your salmon dish instead of the usual steamed broccoli. It's worth the extra carbs, trust me.

Make sure to end the night with a sugar cookie from their dessert selection. Paulie's won't be Paulie's without their divine sugar cookies!

Staff if super-friendly and patient. They'll help you choose a wine pairing for your meal, even if it's counter service. Just be mindful of the line and don't take forever to order. This tends to happen often, and is not the restaurant's fault. I do wish there was another system (or line) for people who need a wine pairing and have to crowd the line. Nonetheless, after all that, you will surely have a great dining experience!

It has been a long time since I have been into the lower Westheimer area, and this little wine bar slash Italian restaurant is absolutely fabulous. From freshest giant Panini grilled sandwiches to traditional Italian sidewalk fare to their special of the day, if you are looking for authentic Italian food and a wonderful selection of wines and chilled beverages, don't miss this quaint and wonderful restaurant.!

This is a neighborhood place in my neighborhood and I have been there at least monthly for 14 years. Food quality is very high and over the years, they have introduced me to several new brews I haven't found elsewhere is this beer-crazed section of town. Portions are quite large so splits and take-home boxes are popular. It's usually quite crowded but we've always been able to get a table. Reasonably quiet inside (by Houston's noisy restaurant standards). Outside seating is very limited and the street is somewhat noisy.

Nice place with a lot of food options. The small portions were large. The food was good but not amazing. My amatriciana was swimming in oil, at least a 1/4 cup of oil less would have been fine. Everyone else's choices were great. I would go back.

A great little Italian place to grab dinner or a cup of coffee and dessert. Food was very good in my opinion (I read other reviews saying the sauce wasn't very strong). I thought the Rigatoni Bolgnese was more flavorful than the Canestri alla Funghi.

Only issue I have overall is that there is limited seating and their parking arrangements aren't great. If I had to guess, there's probably seating for 30 so if it's full you have to wait till someone finishes. There's no dedicated parking lot so you have to park somewhere in the area and then just walk over.

Overall I'd give this place a 7/10. I'd return here again, but more likely because my wife LOVES Italian food.

Our experience at Paulie's has always been good but Saturday night it was not good.
My husband ordered the veal chop, as he usually does, and it was totally different.
It was smaller and not cooked to perfection as usual. We have been eating at Paulie's since the 1990's. I realize restaurants must change with the times but somethings should not be changed if they are already good and popular.
I emailed the owner so he could know of our surprise and his response was not to come back, to eat somewhere else. We most definitely will not return. I'm sure other restaurants will be glad to have our business since we eat out at least 4 times a week.

Nice little spot with great food and feel. I ordered the rigatoni bolognese, great mix of flavors and ingredients. You can tell this place takes time and care for their food and customers.

I've gone to Paulie's for years. I love the food. I love the folks behind the counter. I love the Oso Bucco on Thursdays. I stopped going there to dine because of the clientele - loud, self absorbed suburbanites who just goof up the atmosphere of a lovely little neighborhood place.

I still patronize and will go to Paulies anytime except the dinner hours. Then I get take out and find someplace quiet to enjoy the meal.

Counter service homemade pasta and sauces. Seating can be extremely limited during peak hours but food comes out very quickly. If you are looking for scratch made pasta without breaking the bank, this is the spot to do it.

Very Average. Don't see what all the fuss is about. Cookie was less than stellar. Vinaigrette was too thick. Alfredo was just average. Due to reviews and expensive prices my expectations may have been too high.

Very good food in a nice environment. Been there multiple times and ordered different things each time. Although I don't like being asked for a 15% or more tip when you order at the counter and then have to pick up your meal when a pager goes off.

Great for a quick lunch, dinner or to pick up some great food to go! Homemade pasta dishes are really good. There portions are huge; I usually get the half orders. The staff is always super friendly and professional.

RUDE STAFF. This used to be one of Houston's best but management changes have left an ever changing and unhelpful staff. Paulie is rare to be seen and the impact is evident.

I have never experienced the kind of poor service anywhere. They had a great staff before a mass firing (this may be apocryphal but it did match the big staff turnover). It is a shame to have great food and recipes but have the opposite for service.
I hope Paulie re-engages soon.

My favorite place in Houston. Consistently good food. Affordable. Friendly. You can make it a fancy meal with veal chop and wine. Casual dinner with spaghetti and meatballs or perfect lunch with a shrimp BLT (or shrimp poboy on Saturday ) Personal favorite is the Cresti de Gallo.

Paulie's is my favorite place for bolognese in town. It strikes a great balance between being casual, affordable, and delicious. It's helpful to park around the block along the side of Morse street if the parking is full.

We always love the food here! Never had anything we didn't like. Service is friendly but it does take a while for your food to come out. It's super fresh (for that reason) and worth the wait!

I love this place. It has character, the food is really good, and they don t rush you out.
I am not a panini person, except when I come to Paulie s I only order their paninis. I don t know what they do to the bread, it melts in the mouth. And they don t overpower it s with the cheese, so I can actually finish the whole thing. Love the place.

What's fun about this place is the option in all their meals for two serving sizes. The smaller one is still a huge portion. I've never finished it. The larger one was big enough for my wife and I to share with no competition.

I was disappointed with this place. Pastas were extremely spicy and made me think we were in an Asian restaurant instead of Italian. Pizzas weren t anything different. Actually the choice of toppings were disappointing and I felt the crust were kind of soggy. I don t think I ll be returning.

One of my favorite spots in Houston. Regular size pasta order provides enough for two people, or leftovers for one. Bucatini Amatriciana has the perfect amount of heat. Great wine selection and knowledgeable staff.

Lovely, warm fast casual restaurant. High quality Italian family recipes with a modern bistro touch. Portions are large and filling. Wine list and beer are well-curated and affordable. This is a happy meal waiting for you to enjoy. I go back often and am never disappointed.

Good for a quick bite with quality ingredients. Although food was cooked well- pasta aldente, veggies not overdone, the food lacked flavor. Needs some herbs/spice, less oil and less cream. Ambience and staff were great, welcoming and great recommendations. Quick tip: Don't order a large for one person! Even the small pastas are enough for 2 healthy servings!

Pasta made in-house. . . Absolutely delicious. Our go to for Italian food cravings. They also serve a nice selection of sandwiches, soup, salads, coffees and desserts.
Quaint and cozy, great for an evening out. Usually busy and can get a bit noisy. Sit outside for romantic conversation. A gem in the Montrose area.
Open everyday 11am to 9pm. Closed on Sunday.
