1) 30 minutes in line to make order
2) 50 minutes waiting for my order
3) $20 for tasteless green (literally green) plain pasta
4) Their "famous" cucumber-infused water is a tank of water with cucumber floating in it. Once in a while a man from kitchen comes and pours more plain water, with the same cucumber floating in it.

I thought the place was nice/clean enough and so was the staff. The pasta seemed to be of good quality as well, but of the three (top three on menu) dishes we had the Bolonase was the better tasting. All of them didn't have very good flavor though and were definitely missing salt. They did not render the fat off the bacon and did not incorporate the pasta water correctly.

Nice counter service italian restaurant in Houston. 4 stars is for the parking difficulty. Their food and service is great - just wish it was easier to find a sport to park. There's usually a line but it moves. The melanzane is great - that's a must try.

Drive by here all the time but didn't realize it was an Italian restaurant until I read about it online. Really nice, bright and clean atmosphere. Order at the counter and you get a buzzer to pick up food when ready. Overall good was good although I wouldn't recommend the pizza. It felt very "cafeteria" in quality. The steak was fine, but the best part was the pesto gnocchi. Will go back and next time I plan to order better (ie pasta).

Unappetizing Italian food. Fettuccini Alfredo, Primavera Aglio e olio, and key lime pie. Just tasted cream in the fettuccini--no cheese, no pepper, no flavor. Primavera had too much oil. Drenched in oil. Not appetizing. Key lime pie was too sweet, and had a texture that was too viscous, like it had been outside for a week.

I have been to this restaurant several times in the past and enjoyed the experience. On my visit today the management decided to hire a very rude person to oversee parking. He was very ineffective and hostile. Train people to work with the public or do not hire them!

I love Paulie's! When in doubt get the Canestri alla Funghi. It has Crimini & Shiitake Mushroom, Garlic, Sage & Marsala Cream. It's a delicious vegetarian dish! I crave for this. I've tried their pizza, lamb, pork, salads..and have never been disappointed. They also provide refreshing cucumber water!

I like that it still has the mom&pop feel. After dinner, make sure you go next door and visit their wine bar - Camerata!

This is a solid Houston lunch place. Their food is very fresh and a welcomed change from the standard deli fare, and the service is always great. They have been more than helpful with my food allergies. I would definitely recomend them for a great lunch. I much prefer Paulie's over Empire and Cafe Brazil simply because the food is always spot on and fresh tasting - you can tell they make their food from scratch, know what's in it, and use quality ingredients.

Super amazing. This is a service counter restaurant. Pretty small. It has agood variety of Italian foods on the menu. I enjoyed the shrimp scampi pasta. Everything tasted authentic and seasoned to perfection. I also had the sugar cookies which made everything else in my life much better. I highly recommend this place for a inexpensive date

Paulie's is a great casual Italian restaurant. Sometimes you don't feel like waiter service and the stuffiness of a traditional place. It is counter service, but their food quality is still very high. The steak and gnocchi is my go to dish.

Best pasta in the city. Use to have a better wine selection but still good (Matt Z. You are missed and needed back). The order line can be overwhelming but does move through. Yummy and fun cookies.

Have and will always adore Paulie s. Keep the servers and bussers happy and I ll be happy. They make my day. The bellinis [sic] are fabulous. Keep the food honest and tasty, and I ll be happy.

I abhor pretense. Too many restaurants think bastardizing the menu will gain them an audience. And maybe in this silly city, with ever changeful tastes, that works, but not as a long term biz model.

This is lone star pasta (literally) at its worst. Very disappointing. Wet pasta, no sign of al-dente anywhere. The signature spicy Amatriciana tastes like sriracha, chili oil and chili flakes. Keep that sauce a secret PLEASE! Overkill, over-cooked, underwhelming. Meatballs might be dog food - was it puppy chow or just puppy? And then there is the pizza . The Alissa or Elissa whoever s gf the chef named it after, clearly broke some hearts. I ve had better tasting Ping pong balls... Raw, thick tomato on top of rancid pesto and frozen supermarket dough. Someone should mention to this bitter, angry chef that tomato s cut that thick, turn to mush and release a ton of water when cooked (kinda like a sore) which doesn t exactly improve frozen dough. Wet pasta followed by soggy seconds pizza mush. How bizarre that the pizza is almost as equally undercooked and slimy as the pasta is over... and then there was the raw veal chop - MOOOO - it s alive! The cucumber water was, by contrast, a welcome relief. Paulie makes me crave Di Giorno or hospital food. Mama Mia don t make me go again!

This is a neat place that isn't really laid out very well. You walk in and have to look to your left at the wall for this really massive menu... I felt like it was too much information to absorb in the span of time you have to order. If you're going to have such a massive menu, let me sit down and contemplate it first or at least let me hold it and examine it up close.

The food was fine - Italian fare with a bunch of quirks thrown in. They try to do a lot of things at the same time: spaghetti and meatballs, hoagies, pizza, hamburgers, caprese salad, paninis, pizzas, espresso cafe, gelato, bakery, soups... I can't tell if this is one restaurant or five.

Despite it all being unwieldy, the food comes out good. I wouldn't say spectacular, but I'm sure they have some standouts. You just might have to wade through a huge menu to get to them.

Admittedly I'm not a huge fan of Italian food but this place definitely won me over. The pastas were so good I couldn't believe the small price I paid for it. If the value wasn't the main reason to come here the service is. I'm used to people mispronouncing my name on orders or not being able to spell it correctly; it really doesn't bother me. However, the woman working at the pick-up counter stopped me to tell me she really wanted to get it right. It didn't matter she knew how to pronounce it of course but the fact she took the time really makes this feel like an idyllic neighborhood eatery. I'll definitely be coming back

Word to the wise though: it says small but that's actually an already generous portion. "Regular" feeds 2-3 people.

On the pricey side but nice. We had some Capresi, gnioki & pencheta and it was all good. Kinda heavy but I was expecting it. Our waiter was knowledgeable, friendly and had opinions on what was good & not good. I trusted him & I'm glad. Try the tiramisu.

Awsome
