Nice big quiet place to learn with your students or on your own and or to read something. I often go to the Amsterdam Public Library library on the Oosterdokkade to kill some time and also learn something. That's why it's nice that they are open until 10 p.m. Only it is often busy around the time of the exams. The library is also a great place to take photos. Or to drink a cup of coffee on the ground floor or to eat something delicious on the 7th floor.

Nice place to spend an afternoon to read books, newspapers, movies or just sit here doing your own thing. There are bars to grab a soft drink and simple meals. The entrance is free. An awesome Dutch design.

Nice big library. They have a large bicycle shed where you can park your bicycle for free and there is always space.

When you enter, it is very clear in terms of categories so that you can go straight to the department where you need to be.

There is a very wide selection of books so that there is almost always the book you need. If the book is not there, it is always a good place to study or to relax. There are also always plenty of seats, although some seats are not as comfortable as others. Furthermore, it is almost always quiet and everyone is super friendly, you can always ask where to find a book.

The restaurant is a downside because at first there was a nice La Place but now there is a restaurant that is nice, but that is super expensive. If you want to have lunch there you better go to the Italian restaurant on the ground floor.

It is also very easy to rent a book there and it generally does not cost a lot, but it is better to return the book on time because if you return it too late you will receive a large fine.

The OBA Library is recommended for those who are tired of the bustle near Amsterdam Central Station. There is also a cafe on the top floor, and you can also eat affordable rice. There is also a balcony overlooking the city of Amsterdam.
Of course, various books in the hall are also unlimited. (It is necessary to register as a member for lending.) It is next to Central Station, so please go.

All floors have spectacular views.
Wi-Fi is available through simple phone authentication (every three days). Ideal perfect library. Personally, I recommend a work space on the third floor.

I study well for two months. / Toilet in the basement and the 7th floor (free use)

Just for kids area: a bit disappointing. Large and nice looking, but lacking any toys or other things to interact with that I'm used to at a library. They had some iPad-like devices but half were not working. For a city that is 50% non-Dutch they have a really small section of books in other languages.

About the restaurant on the 7th floor: studentesque athmos, limited choice of self service, great smoothies, if the balcony is opened a nice photo opportunity. Nicely located next to central station and parking.

The place is beautiful and close to Centraal Station, the youth section brilliant, the rest pushes to ask and read or read the press (including French). The 7th floor offers a more than adequate cafe restaurant with a great view of Amsterdam.

It is a very beautiful place but little visited by Italian tourists. In the basement, if you have children you'll have a lot to turn between shelves filled with books and comfortable sofas as well as specially designed games for the little ones. My 5-year-old daughter no longer wanted to come away.
On the seventh floor there is a great self-service with different options for vegetarians / vegans. From the restaurant terrace it is also possible to see Amsterdam in all its breadth. If you want to leave the usual tourist circuit, relax without paying an entrance fee, the central library is definitely for you.

This is a very large public library that has a restaurant at the 6th floor and somewhat of a visitor area on the 0 and -1 floors.
each floor has dedicated topics.

If you are coming there to learn note that you can get a subscription for the internet, but the internet at times can be extremely slow, so watching videos (for example: university lectures) can be a challenge at times.

In addition unless you are in the quiet several booths on the 5th floor, you'll find it's hard to get absolute quite as the noise from the restaurants on the 6th floor and the noise from the piano on the ground floor can be distracting.

Overall it's a good place to come to study as long as you come early to get a good spot and don't have to rely on a fast internet connection.

Really the place is comfortable and cozy, on the 7th floor has a buffet for breakfast very expensive! If you say that a small croissant has 2 euros, a smoke a small glass of 5euro and 1 sandwich literally 2 bites 5 euros .. Comoid .. General food outside in the Netherlands is expensive and very low quality compared to Greece the main dishes begin from 16-18 eur

The internet in the oba is very unreliable. Although you do not pay much for an oba membership, it is annoying when you come to study and are thrown off the internet. This is not only a problem for this oba, but for public libraries in general

Very careful as to contamination danger (COVID-19). Directions for walking path indicated. Ethanol product at entrance. Recommendations indicated as to escalators. 1.5 metres advice at several other places, policy elucidation etc. Excellent indication as to books available to take home for a three week period plus extension option for non reserved materials.

This library is amazing. It looks great, it's comfortable, has many floors, great views. If you're a tourist, you should come here for the views, it's free. Don't disturb people who are studying, though. We loved it, I wish we had something like this in my hometown.

Beautiful building, beautiful views. I wasn't there long enough to read anything but based on the size of the building, I'd wager they have a great collection, too.

WiFi requires you to create a sign in, but all you really need is a name and a phone number. International phone numbers work fine.

Renovations, a lot of noise from workmen, talking loudly to each other or on the phone, throwing boxes and the like, unnecessary noise, of course some noise is normal during renovations, but this is unnecessary and very disturbing

Amazingly clean and well designed for a public library. It has the high quality feel of a modern university library. Must take a look for the architecture, interior design and art works inside as well as seeing how the books are treated like pieces of art and specially lit up on the shelves. Also a great city view from the top floor that has a restaurant. The only negative is you have to pay to use the restroom.

Bibliotheek Amsterdam. Or more specifically, the Central Library, cause Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam (OBA) refers to the full network of public Amsterdam libraries. This one is just a lil way along from Amsterdam Centraal railway station, and it s a stunning building with a cool exhibition space.

lovely modern library with some good food inside. Sadly the cuts last years made it a less public plac. no free use of computers, overcomplicated log in procedures and a lot of bureaucracy. Always felt proud to be a member, now i think about terminating my membership.

Calm and focused surrounding, so perfect to work there. The architecture is modern and not distracting at all.
There is no free wi-fi for non-members of the library, but you can buy a wi-fi-access for 12 per year.
Around lunchtime, it s really full, so it takes a while to find a nice place.
And if you study there for more hours it can get a little bit cold. I always bring a second sweater.
All in all alright!

The facility is fine but something is really drive me crazy.
1. There is no free public Wi-Fi, if you r not a member
2. It's a library, not an open market, there are many annoying tourists and guide person there everyday, they talking and laughing very loud. And children are running/playing around.
3. The library locked all the toilet , u must pay for the toilet in the 7th floor.
4. There are no power plugs under tables( only some of them near the window).

Gigantic library. Many sectors with every subject. There is a bar on the top floor. It is wonderful to breathe the atmosphere of daily university study. There are areas with free WiFi. The view from above over the city is beautiful. Alternative visit to Amsterdam, but also a place to relax with a good book.

This Oba is a very nice and quiet place to study, read but also to be just there. It is (almost) always very quiet, the staff is very polite, you can easily find everything through all the information, and even if you can not find it the staff help you, but it is also a nice place for children, there are on the ground floor a lot of sitting / playing places for children and also a lot of suitable books for them. I have heard that children are sometimes also read aloud.

I'm a visiting library director from NY and I was just blown away by this place. The design elements are simple and clean with so much natural light. Artificial light is artfully placed on the top and sides of the stacks. Technology is everywhere and friendly, there are so many options to sit and use your own laptop or a library pc.
Also, there are tons of different places to sit, study, reflect, read, work in groups and enjoy internal and external (beautiful) vistas. I loved the fact that their were multiple restaurants, including a ground floor one with a bar. Amsterdam is a fabulously progressive city and their library reflects their values. Great job!

A great library with plenty of facilities. The library really has everything to offer that you might need. The only thing that's unfortunate is that there often are very obnoxious high school students running around and talking loudly.. I would suggest coming here before 12:00 or after 17:00.

I'm really surprised reading opinions... 5* because of restaurant and coffee...is it this, what a library should be? Maybe it's comfortable for people who have library card, but not for someone who is in Amsterdam few days and wants to read something new... Big disappointment for me (although coffee and view is really nice).

It s more than just a public library! There s a cafe and a section for kids to read and play. You just have to grab a good spot and sit there to read, study or work. There s pin drop silence and it makes for a great atmosphere to focus and do quality work. OBA also has a good collection of books in English. It s definitely a must-visit!
