Slow internet and unfortunately too often noise. Apparently you can talk aloud here in most places. The children's paradise below also makes little contribution to a quiet situation, although the Oba cannot help retarded parents.
The book collection of the Oba is fortunately formidable as well as the other facilities. Therefore three instead of two stars.
Wifi did not work on any of my devices and staff could not seem to help, it seemed to only work if you were a member which was not an option for me. Seeing as I went to do work I had to leave and find somewhere else. However, atmosphere in the cafe was nice with comfortable seating options if you want something other than a desk to do work at. Open and social, although not noisy which is great.
If books and / or comics are your thing, then you should definitely have passed here. Six floors filled with numerous literary masterpieces.
And maybe nice to know, on the top floor (the 7th floor) you can enjoy a delicious meal, after which you can take a look at the Amsterdam skyline from the terrace.
Impressive and unforgettable your visit if you are in Amsterdam, on its highest floor there is a magnificent view of the center and beyond, the shaking book collection is something to highlight as well as the spaces to read, the best? The detail of the elevators
;-)
A beautiful, but also ingeniously designed library. Because although the building is large, it is still quiet and the rooms are well lit. The collection is exceptionally large and there are also many seating and study places. And for those who find it important; the view from the terrace of the cafe of La Place is also great. By far the best library in the Netherlands!
Good atmosphere for reading and working, definitely. Deduction for not having free wifi or eduroam though..
I never thought that if I was in Amsterdam, I would go to the library. Free entrance, at the top there is an inexpensive self-service restaurant, and a balcony with city views. While climbing the stairs to the top floor (there is also an elevator), I admired the design of the rooms: each floor has its own style.
Definitely worth a visit.
Beautiful multimedia library
On the top floor you can enjoy a great view of the city on the NEMO science museum. You can also have a nice snack savoring the dishes of the "LA PLACE" express cuisine on the sixth floor of the library.
Any book lover's dream. Very knowledge staff and books are in most European languages.
Wonderful warm lively world in center of the city. Food is fantastic, has also wine and beer. Was able to get free wireless from a nearby service, library wireless free only for card holders. Lighting inside is phenomenal, one of the best libraries I've ever seen.
Nice large library, just a pity that sometimes there is little space.
Excellently helped by Eva de Jager from dr customer service! With a warm, friendly voice, I was able to speak in peace and that what I called for was handled quickly and efficiently. Eva de Jager! Remember that name.
Fantastic and huge library with 8 floors of books, music, audio-books, a floor for restaurant and a terrace on top. No free-wifi. There is a Vapiano close to the entrance, with views to the inside of the library. Love the architecture. 10 minutes walking from Centraal Station
Public library but you have to pay to get access to the computer and internet? Joke!
Nice library, when it's quiet. Unfortunately a lot of inconvenience by construction workers, in fact you might as well study in a sawmill.
Wow really enjoyed the authentic atmosphere of the ancient Amsterdam with a very contemporary twist; Weuaooohw
Huge library, perfect for disconnecting between city visits, reading or working in a modern and free space. The views are incredible
Great architecture, great furnishings, is definitely worth a visit for tourists regardless of whether the weather is bad or bad!
Spectacular, to be seen absolutely ... spread over several floors, divided by category ... each floor has several areas in which to sit, relax, or have a coffee ... on the top floor a refreshment area with a panoramic terrace
beautiful library and a cafeteria on the top floor terrace to enjoy the city
Immense library with fantastic view to the top floor of the city
Very nice, you must the visit La place restaurant and view is perfect
Great location, view, design. Even a couple hours of work feels like a breeze, massive selection of books as well (English), with very good ones.
One problem is the public computers, they're quite outdated and some don't even work.
To use the computers, or even the wifi, it costs 1 euro fot every half an hour!! Is that what the dutch consider a public library??
Very noisy, not a good place for studying.
People don't respect Corona rules (there are labels expressly stating where you can sit, nonetheless multiple people sit on the same table) and there is little or no control.
Admission is free for all. A modern library with excellent city views, including a rooftop cafe.
Nicest and most beautiful library in Amsterdam . the biggest in Europe
One of my favorite places in the city, and I don't even read books!
Very good library on various floors. Good diverse book collection
Great library with spectacular views and sunrise if you are early.
An excellent, modern, eight-story library, right next to a wide canal in the center. They have lockers, not large but available. Space to eat downstairs and on the seventh floor restaurant and theater. Internet and a large number of computers available for use.
The top floor offers amazing views of the city. There's also a restaurant for grabbing a quick snack while enjoying the views.
Huge library with 7 floors, among which the one dedicated to children (the -1) is really wonderful. The first two floors are set up like a show, while the rest are classics with books and shelves
A paradise for people who like to work at a cafe with a view
Unfortunately, too often noise. Despite, the modern atmosphere and varied program, it is and remains a library! A place where people need to be able to work in silence. OBA employees also seem to be walking around just for info and decoration. You see security guards once every 2 months. Furthermore, it would be forbidden to eat, but hardly any attention is paid to that either. That means that in the later hours, the mice (! - yes, really - think twice about that before you eat at La Place) come out. Overall, poor management and unfortunately this library has forgotten its core activity ...
