Before there was Barley Swine there was Odd Duck (and there still is, thankfully). The focus is wonderful farm-fresh cuisine in a trailer that varies according to seasonality and the chef's whim (the pork belly is great as are the soups). And since they can't serve you, you can BYO bottle which makes BS an excellent spot for a casual date when the weather is nice.

All time favorite restaurant in Austin.

The service, food quality, and food creativity is always spectacular at Odd Duck. This restaurant stands as a rare gym for fine dining in Austin.

Get the fish head, you won't regret it.

Have just have started eating out a little more, although cautiously. We'd eaten here quite a while ago and it was great. I felt I had to write about our experience this time.

Odd Duck is a very modern restaurant that prides itself on locally sourced ingredients. While I think that's a good concept, the end result is what's most important to me. We were not disappointed. Eating here is a special experience!

You must make a reservation and then text when you arrive so that you can come in when your table is ready. They took great care to comply with social distancing and common sense guidelines which is very important to us.

Service is fabulous with friendly, intelligent, knowledgeable staff. Our waiter, Brandon, was as good a server as we've ever had in every way. Odd Duck does small plates, which we like as we enjoy sharing. We were able to order a few items on the Happy Hour Menu which were half off from 5-6 pm.

The first thing out was the Smoked Fish Pimento. It was a terrific tasting mix of smoked fish cheese spread, apple, pickled mustard seeds and radish on a seeded cracker. Every bit had a perfect mix of flavors. And although I don't usually like apple in food, it blended just right with all of the other ingredients.

The Grilled Pork Belly was similar in that the squash & corn cake, shiitake-eggplant sweet & sour and okra had flavors that mixed incredibly well.

The Cajun BB Shrimp with grilled sourdough was delicious and cooked perfectly. It came out with the Cast Iron Cornbread with beer cheese and honey butter. These two dishes complimented each other perfectly. We had to take home half the Cornbread because as good as it was, we needed to leave room for dessert.

The Sweet Potato White Chocolate Puffy with praline, graham cracker and marshmallow dessert was incredible. Like the other dishes it had a fabulous mix of flavors and was the perfect ending to a true 5-star meal.

This meal with a glass of wine was reasonable and worth every penny!

I ve been twice. Once for HH and once for brunch. Both have great quality eats. What can I say that hasn t been said? I ll give my favorites for each.

HH: Paloma is great. Wont go wrong with that choice. For apps, the bread. Skip the quesadilla.

Brunch: fried chicken and waffles. Dutch baby was good but smaller than expected.

My best Austin eating-out experience so far (it's been a year). The prices are on the upper side but then it is completely worth it- the gourmet food, the drinks, the ambience. Make the most of it during happy hours.

Atmosphere was awesome! We loved that the plates and chairs didn't all match each other. I thought that was cool feature.
The portions are kinda small and pricey, but honestly worth the price when you dig in! Their quail was to die for!
The service was awesome! And they bring your food out as soon as its ready, one plate at a time (designed that way, as they suggest a potluck style meal, where everyone shares everything).

I had an amazing dinner here with my girlfriend. We loved the unique atmosphere and the equally unique, delicious dishes! Their dishes are relatively small and moderately priced, which allows you to try several (we ordered 7 for the two of us) different dishes. I highly recommend Odd Duck!

One of my favorite restaurants and my favorite restaurant in Austin. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, the menu changes regularly so it never gets old, and the food is absolutely incredible. I try to visit at least once/month since the menu updates on a monthly basis, and I've never been disappointed.

Definitely try the cocktails. The Fresca, or the Paloma, depending on the season, are both great choices that are marked down for happy hour.

Delicious menu with dishes that made me wanting their receipts. Many of their dishes are homemade/there from natural organic ingredients. That impressed my wife and I. Staff is knowledgeable, professional and very kind.
I will definitely be returning.

Our experience here was great. We came for brunch and are glad we decided to branch out to other brunch places because we were missing out. The menu is stocked full of amazing dishes from some very talented chefs. Service was attentive and friendly and they offered complimentary valet parking. Try this place for brunch, you ll be glad you skipped the wait at Snooze.

This place is a reservations nightmare. The reservationist takes forever to respond to inquiries, and they have a million rigid and frustrating rules for reservations over six people. The best part is that their confirmation system is faulty. The day before my birthday party reservation I got a confirmation text. The day of I received an email mere hours before the reservation that they never received confirmation from me and had given away my reservation. The reservations staff is unprofessional and rude which is a dam shame given that the kitchen staff is amazing.

This place is awesome. It's a small plate style restaurant, which I think is fun because one gets to try many different menu items if you're willing to share. That being said, go with people you don't mind sharing with, and you'll enjoy your meal a lot more. The food and service was spectacular. The drinks were also very good with a lot of homemade ingredients in their concoctions.

It's not all for the faint of heart (pig face, entire chickens (including feet), fish head, etc), but there are enough options to get more PG rated dishes if you can't handle the whole animal on your table. If you can, go for it because it's delicious.

Really great place. Our server ( Trevor or maybe Lawrence, had a few drinks so I don t remember) was great. The drinks were really good and the food was fantastic. We had the cornbread, quail, scallops and the sorbet. Live in Dallas but will make this a regular stop when in Austin.

Came to Austin for my birthday with my wife. Odd Duck was recommended by quite a few of my co-workers. It did not disappoint.

Cocktail menu had a little bit of everything to appeal to people with varying spirit choices.

As someone who works in the food industry, I can say that the food was outstanding. Sitting at the shelves counter is the way to go so you can watch people making your food. What's nice as well is the bartenders they took care of my wife and I discovered that I also worked in the industry and that's when the meal took off to excellent.

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff who are happy to be there and enjoy conversation. Would highly recommend anybody going to Austin or any Austin native.

We had an incredible Brunch at Odd Duck. The Shrimp and Grits were delicious. A soft boiled egg, that is gently fried, sits atop the creamy grits that are bursting with flavor. The shrimp are large and cooked perfectly! There are so many flavor nuances that hit your palette, that I can t even begin to describe them all. The Bourbon glazed waffles with fried chicken were memorable. Pecans atop the waffles added a crunch and just a few pickled daikon radish slices are placed on top. The bourbon glaze wasn t too sweet. The perfect accompaniment to the fried chicken. The batter on the chicken was perfect, not too thick or thin, and the chicken inside was moist and tender. Amazing craft cocktails add that special brunch feel to your meal!

Had a wonderful brunch! The cheddar scallion biscuit was one of the best biscuits I have ever had. Enjoyed everything and the atmosphere and service were amazing but still definitely come back for another biscuit!

Good food, interesting atmosphere albeit loud. We sat at the bar and enjoyed quick drink service but the waitress wasn't very good. Our particular experience let us feeling spoken to as if we were ignorant. Hopefully others are better. The food on the other hand delicious in some bites and kind of flat in others. In all - fun once or twice but probably won't come back.

Happy hour on point and small shareable food was clearly made with talent. However, not huge on Asian flavors and practically every dish had mushrooms in it hence the four stars. It's an must try on your Austin food tour list.

I ve never written a review before but this experience was unacceptable. When you call to reserve a table a week in advance and then get sat at the bar to eat (which would be fine/fun) but the bartender working inches from your plates spills the cocktails she s making for others not once but twice all over your anniversary meal (as in nachos floating on ice cubes) followed by your husband thinking his teeth are crumbling in his head bc there are bones in the pork belly (hard to figure when there are no bones in pork Belly) and they don t even attempt to make it right from a customer service point of view or by at least comping what needs to clearly be comped you ve lost me. The food was alright, but when the service, attitude and lack of respect for clientele stinks that smell it s not possible to enjoy the food. So nope! I have no idea at this point if the food s even decent bc the arrogance and disrespect are the most important dishes they serve. Please Austin spare me another self-important eatery that thinks arrogance is cute and even worse bullet proof! So gross and over played!

All of staffs are super nice and very professional. I was hesitant to visit here because of this place being a small portion pricy tapas but it was definitely worth it. Each dishes had great full flavor. Definitely get sourdough bread and sweet potato and old fashioned!!

Wow is what I have to say. Odd it is indeed. I am sure I am not the only person doing this but I was looking for duck as the first thing on the menu! Dishes were small but the overall flavor was definitely there hitting those taste buds. We ordered the quail, the duck and finally the wagyu pasta. The quail was amazing and tops out what we ate. The wagyu pasta was nice. The natural flavor of the beef came through with crunchy bits. The duck was so-so and felt that the duck flavor didn't really explode out. The layout and atmosphere of the restaurant was great!

To review Odd Duck, I need to divide this into two parts:
The food and service: Amazing. Five stars. It's innovative, fresh, and the servers do an excellent job of explaining each dish. You'll need to order several plates to make a full meal, but the prices are reasonable and you'll want to try as much as you can. Absolutely try the chicken fried chicken egg for something totally different.
The ambiance: The bar is exceptionally cool with its wood fire oven as the centerpiece, and the rustic decor is cozy. The hostess station was not very friendly or informative, however, which started my experience off on a sour note. I would have liked to know that the restaurant seats for group dining before being seated, but instead, my husband and I were seated at an empty 6-top and ended up enjoying an awkwardly silent dinner with two strangers amidst a sea of empty 4-tops. Not exactly my vibe. Be warned if you're not in a large party.
I would absolutely eat their food again, and I'll chalk the awkwardness in getting seated up to the fact that they're still new. But as I waited for the valet to pull my car up 10 feet (you can't self-park), I couldn't help but think, "Man, I wish this was a food truck again."

Great place for groups although reservations seem like a must. Seasonal, locally sourced ingredients (except for seafood, but that's still from the Gulf). Aspiring drinks menu, and diligent service. Good neighborhood for drinks after.

This is one of those places that is very pricey, but is so worth the price. I was with a corporate function. There were 12 of us and they just kept bringing dishes so we tried practically whole menu and didn't have to think. Everything was absolutely amazing. Highly recommended!

I have been going to OD for the last couple of years. I can't speak highly enough of the mindblowing quality of service, food, and cocktails. Take a seat at the bar to watch them work their magic. I'm also in love with their sister Barley Swine - in our neighborhood.

Decided to drop the kids off with grandma to have a very rare date night with my husband on our last night in Austin. Our server Kathryn was so sweet and very helpful with my dietary restrictions. The spicy melon salad was amazing, refreshing with the perfect amount of spice. I could have crushed three more plates of it haha. I had the butternut squash (amazing) and my husband had the waygu burger (he loved it). We had the ice cream for dessert and it was a great end to such a lovely experience. We will definitely return the next time we visit Austin. Beautiful restaurant, we highly recommend

Service was spectacular! Like above and beyond: friendly, informative without being intrusive, and they even hand-edited a vegetarian menu to make a vegan menu for one of our party.

Now, the food. The plates ranged from delicious to stab-your-friends-with-a-fork-because-you-dont-want-to-share. The ceviche, carrot parfait and watermelon cocktail (with candied melon!) where especially noteworthy. Beer and wine selection were great, too.

I'm definitely coming back at my first opportunity (but I'm an out of towner :/).

The food is increeeeedible!!! Awesome service and I really like that they have seating that looks directly into the kitchen so you can see the amazing chefs hard at work. Hiiiighly recommend!!!

I love this food truck. Pork belly sliders are a completely decadent delight. But the main question is, what happened to this place?? The trailer is gone with no sign indicating relocation??
