They have an interesting science museum about weather. The area around it and the views are beautiful.
The building was designed by the same architect who designed the crystal pyramid in front of the Louvre Museum in Paris France.

My hubby and I were kicked out because of a sevice animal. Since when are service animals not allowed to go into places? I tried calling and I couldnt even get a hold of anyone to be able to ask.

I entered and was told my service animal wasnt allowed unless he was blind.....can I just say What?

Beautiful building in a cimmanding location. Awesome interactive exhibits on Earth's weather patterns, phenomenology, and predictions, as well exhibits on I.M. Pei's architecture and Solar/Space studies. Great place for kids and adults, and it's free! The views from here are awesome and parking for the local hiking trails is free.

Today I used NCAR for its parking lot and easy access to boulder open space hiking trails, as I m sure many of the other reviews mention. While it s always been a favorite spot, I m sure usage has increased since boulder began restricting parking at the open space lots to county residents (jerks).

Despite its quick, easy and free access to great hiking, you can t overlook the research conducted here and its impact. The visitor center is open every day and a variety of tour options are available. The public can also access restrooms and the cafeteria.

We toured the facility on an extremely hot day, which was a good idea since they keep it nice and comfortable inside. They have some neat exhibits, but it's not for everybody. I can see how it would be great for an Elementary School field trip, but for the average Joe, it will be just mildly interesting.

If one has never been here, one does not know what they are missing.

Great place to visit with kids anytime of year. Great place to ride your bike to, motorized, or motored by you. Great place to hike anywhere from. Great place to learn about the atmosphere. And finally, great place to bring any kind of snow gliding equipment in the winter time or to fly one's stunt Kite from anytime of year (especially when the Chinook Winds come through in Indian summer).

A truly magnificent view of the major highways of I-36 and the local community breathtaking views truly amazing atmosphere unfriendly colleagues. Request for outdoor trash can receptacles as well as recyclables containers to ensure littering is at a minimum this is just my professional opinion and my recommendations to the world's court systems world industry and the science and Technologies of our industry standards policies and procedures.

I highly recommend every kid K-6 has the opportunity to visit. The science educators there are clearly dedicated to providing learning experiences for all ages. It is a well thought out design, a goregous venue, and even non-scientists enjoy it.

I took my kids here early on a Friday morning. We had the exhibits all to ourselves. They really enjoyed it. The place is kid friendly. I consider it a win when none of my kids got lost or chewed out by staff. We didn't quite need an hour looking around inside, so it was a quick visit. Afterwards, we played out on the trails. The views and the settings are to die for.

Fascinating! Excellent exhibits. Do the tour if you can because you'll discover a lot more info from the tour guide. Interactive displays include a tornado, sand dunes, and clouds. Incredible photos of the sun and explanations of its electromagnetic effect on Earth.

A must see while in Boulder. Very cool interactive learning stations that the kids loved. A great hike out the back of the building...and oh yeah the building is an I.M.Pei - worth the trip alone.

Visited the lab/museum during the summer and it was an experience! Everything from: the interactive national weather displays, to the explanations of E.M. was just fantastic! Life's about learning, and you will learn a lot here and its fun! I didn't get to hike or bike up there, but its on my to do list on next years visit.

Awesome view up here.

And this place is also one of the important facilities of NCAR.

This place was so much fun to visit. My boyfriend and I were going for a jog up in the mountains and this place was at the beginning of the trail. We decided to check it out and we almost didn't go on our jog, just to stay longer exploring the exhibits. It doesn't cost any money; it has some very neat, very kid-friendly displays.

Great views, and an appropriately sized museum and exhibits detailing what NCAR does and why it's important. Special area telling the history of the architecturally significant building and layout. Area describing the computer sever racks/mainframe. Given that it's free, this is an incredible experience to see inside this important institution.

An incredible location and building worth visiting for just those reasons. This place is also full of unbiased information about our environment in a very easy to understand format. The fun stuff for kids was actually really fun for me, a sort-of adult, just sayin :)

Part science museum with interactive displays and part live and functioning research center. This place is really fun if you are into learning about the science of the weather and atmosphere. The NCAR building is an iconic landmark in the city of Boulder and is celebrating its 50th year anniversary. The NCAR building is also a popular destination for hikers since it features many different trails within its property. The road that leads up to the building is a steep 710 ft climb that is also a sort of makeshift proving ground for cyclists. I enjoyed the many wonderful and memorable displays such as the one that makes clouds and you can touch and run your hands through, the one with the plunger bulb on top to simulate mainstream wind patterns and the crazy pendulum one by the stairs. Guided tours are offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at noon, but check their website to confirm. Our tour guide was monotone and droned on and on. but the tour is free. There is also a cafeteria to grab some lunch.

The NCAR facilities are amazing and definitely worth a visit. The architecture is just perfect. But, my favorite thing about the space is the hiking that's available. Miles and miles of gorgeous trails!!

We took our kids, 6 and 9, here this past week. We all enjoyed it! We learned a lot and did all there was to do. The cloud and tornado machine were the kid's favorites. We stopped by the cafeteria for a snack and ate outside with a beautiful view of the mountains. The only disappointing part was the staff member that helped us in the cafeteria. She seemed very unhappy and was not friendly, but the rest of the staff we encountered throughout the facility were awesome! We learned a lot, thanks NCAR!

I have been coming here since I was a kid, now I get the pleasure of taking my son and showing him the magnificent views, beautiful science exhibits and awesome interactive learning opportunities. Highly recommend this for families and individuals interested in science and learning!

one of my favorite places to go in boulder. i bike up there a few times a week for the ride and the view and access to some great hikes. the museum is somewhat small but has some cool hands-on stuff and is jam packed with info. I've actually been to the museum 3 times and still learn something new each time because there is a lot to read and view. i love visiting the outside of NCAR when the weather is great and the museum when the weather isn't so great.
