Hostel comfortable and pleasant, flat on cold water showers which is rather warm (in hot weather always nice to have a cool shower). Drinking water is changing at the fountain at 40 rupees per liter, it's big!

Superb.

Another one of the most oldest hotel in Colombo offering an elegant dining and accommodation experience. There is rooftop bar is a superb place to chill out on a Sunday morning and during weekend evening for High tea.

Noisy, disengaged, unsafe.

Noisy, disengaged, unsafe.

We booked an ocean view room, but the hotel was fully booked and had given away our room to someone else. The only room left was one of the collonial rooms, which overlook the ludicrously noisy railway line. I understand that they were busy, and that mistakes happen; but they made absolutely no effort to resolve the issue, and offered no kind of apology.

But more important than the lack of sleep was the shocking disregard for public safety.

We were there for the New Year, and they launched full size 12 mortar fireworks from a terrace about 3 metres from the onlooking crowd! My wife and I both sustained (minor) eye injuries. It could have been very much worse.

This could be a good hotel; but the rooms are very noisy and this was an unforgivable experience.

Staff were understanding and were very helpful. The room had a beautiful view, was spacious but needed to come to terms with living in the 21st century. It will appeal to people looking for "old world appeal" and has a rustic appearance.

This hotel has a history to it. Its located in a place that gives you a phenominal view of the mount lavinia beach. There is a sea food restaurant where you can dine at the beach itself. but the beach isnt a safe place for a bath anymore. The hotel staff gives you great service they are well trained and highly skilled at getting you what you need. I give it 4 stars since the place feels a bit old and needs a little refurbishment to look a bit more lively.

I had the worst experience here. And one month later, I am still battling with their non-existing customer service to get the over charged amount refunded. I would NEVER stay with them ever again!

I stayed at Mt Lavinia for 3 nights based on recommendation and I have to say it is a total disappointment. The room was not ready when I arrived. I had to wonder in the lobby for an hour while they cleaned up with room. There is practical no control over the temperature of the AC unit. You either suffer in dreadful humidity or freeze to death. The front desk staff can virtually help with nothing without a manager's presence. They were so confused with the stay that for some reason they booked my for whole 2 weeks and asked to pay the full amount upon checking! Pay the full amount, not a pre-authorization! After negotiation, they charged for one whole week when I checked it. When I checked out, I had to have another hourly discussion with the front desk then manager then manager's manager to sort of the change and they promised a refund for the over charge they put on my card. They promised it would be refunded in no more than two weeks and yet a month later, I am still trying to sort this out with them calling from the other side of the world.

P.s. I stayed at Hilton the night before I flew out from Colombo. For slightly over $200, I got a full suite of one King, one Queen, and two twin beds with excellent service and proximity to city scenes of Colombo.

Great Hotel, lovely rooms, and excellent staff. I am a tad disappointed that one of the only private beaches in Sri Lanka is now mainly eroded, though other then their beach, the rest is splendid.

Mount Lavinia Hotel in Colombo is one of the oldest hotels in Colombo. This was used to be the residence of the Governor General of Sri Lanka which has now been converted into a five start hotel.

This place is very popular for the wedding as during my stay for 2 days I've seen at least 4-5 wedding in this hotel.

Hotel offers various kind of stays where you will get the direct view of the Sea from your hotel room balcony.

We had our Breakfast at the Governor's Restaurant. Where they offer variety of food.
A bit difficult for a vegetarian's but has an ample options for who eats eggs and Non-Vegetarian peoples.

I have enjoyed my stay at this place for 3 days.

We had our 7 year anniversary party here yesterday and it was a delight. The seafood was fresh off the boat, prepped and cooked live in the open kitchen. The seafood can be coupled with a selection of vegetarian dishes so it covers a wide range of taste buds. They also provide live music with the calipso moving around and performing songs that you request. We loved the atmosphere and we had to move the party to the spacious huts when it started raining which was seamless. The staff were very attentive and helpful so thanks to them! Overall a 5 star experience and would recommend for all.
