Island Hideaway at Dhonakulhi Maldives, Spa Resort & Marina Review

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at this gem of a resort.. From the time we arrived, we were met with great kindness and hospitality.. Every single staff member was a pleasure to talk to especially Christophe the General Manager who is extremely down to earth and very hospitable. Some special mentions and thanks go out to Joffrey, our amazing butler who took care of all our dining and excursion bookings.. Shazra at Matheefaru breakfast buffet who kept us smiling through breakfast.. Sunil at Meeru Bar for his amazing service and great advice on snorkeling areas.. Putra who is one of the best barman (you have to try his margaritas and B52 shooters-amazing!!!).. And lastly Jaleel from housekeeping, who kept our villa sparkling clean!! Nespresso Machines and complimentary coffee in the rooms completely msde us feel at home.. Water Villas are out of this world and measure around 180sqm.. Excellent breakfast buffet with msny options to choose from! We really enjoyed the floating breakfast in our private villa pool.. Fresh flowers, fruit, eggs, sausages, different sweet pastries, two different types of fresh juice and tea and coffee.. I could not ride a bicycle before visiting Hideaway Resort.. Each villa has two bicycles for you to get around.. And if you prefer not to cycle, they have awesome biggy service! Again, special thanks to Ju who went out of his way to lower the seat of my bicycle.. After that, I was riding like a pro!! We went turtle snorkeling and saw a huge range of different fish and got to see two turtles!! Lots of coral reef and beautiful wildlife here.. You will not be disappointed.. It was such a magical experience and we could not have chosen better for our Honeymoon.. Thank you Hideaway Staff and Management for an absolutely wonderful time and experience!! We look forward to booking here again soon

We ended up staying at Hideaway because the hotel we originally booked had Covid cases. We were blown away by the resort and the service offered by the staff during our 4 night stay.
We tried both the overwater and beach villas which were extremely spacious and very private.
The villas in newer resorts on other islands seem to be much smaller.
We dined at all four restaurants. The food was delicious, presentation excellent and the portions were perfect. Special thanks to Shazra, the hostess from Matheefaru restaurant for her kindness and effort to always find the perfect table for us and for the great service offered by Shahid at Meeru Bar.
Our butler Naseer was very prompt in organizing everything for us and making sure we have a worry free stay.
The house reef was excellent for snorkeling. We spotted many sharks, rays, all the colorful fish and an octopus.

WE ARE COMPLETELY FEEL CHEATED AND NOW IN MALE WAITING FOR 8 HOURS IN THE AIRPORT !!
WORST EXPERIENCE !

Hideaway is an upmarket island at the top of the Maldives. The villas on land (we stayed in a residence villa - recommended) are well spaced out, effectively giving each villa a portion of private beach. They are sizeable and very comfortable. The island is actually quite large, with buggies available if walking 5-10 minutes is too much of an effort (it shouldn't be, as all the paths have beautiful flowers to look at)! It is a place with high privacy and chill factor. Yes, there were occasional jet-skis making a noise (on the east side of the island), but, to be honest, not frequent enough to be a particular problem when we were there.

The Hideaway team is first rate, with everyone seeming so willing to go the extra mile to look after you. Our "butler" was Nargiza and "room boy" Nargeef, who looked after us wonderfully. We were also adopted by Mujey in the restaurant, along with Sankar, the restaurant manager. The excellent service is led by Chris, the resort manager, who is an unusually visible and friendly presence.

The food in the main buffet restaurant (the Matheefaru)was excellent, offering a wide variety of options, including dangerously delicious puddings. We didn't try the other specialty restaurants, as we were on a half-board package and were so happy with the main restaurant. We did not lose weight... Even the house band playing in the evenings were excellent.

Scuba diving at the Meridis dive centre, led by Willie, was very good (but not cheap).

One thing to note is that the island is at the far north of the Maldives, with a standard transfer of internal flight (not seaplane) and then speedboat. The upside is that we had a 20kg weight allowance (seaplane 17kg?). The downside is that we had to leave at 4am to get an 11.40 flight back to London from Male!

Overall, we had a great holiday and are likely to go back.

After visiting the previous two Maldivian resorts, rating 3 is mainly for the gloomy and boring environment, untidy and unkempt territory, which absolutely does not correspond to the stated prices and hotel stars. Reef is only one and everyone has to go to one place. The area is sprayed twice a day with dichlorvos-early in the morning and 5 in the evening at the most convenient time for the prglok. Also, opposite the restaurant's grill, garbage unloads. Despite the above, the food is excellent, service 4!

Is it worth taking the risk to travel during pandemics?

I and my wife booked a 3 night 4 days vacation to Maldives. We were excited to travel as we were tired being home in 2020. As it was a short stay, We paid a premium and booked an early morning flight to Maldives. We were expecting an afternoon check-in as there was supposed to be another short domestic transfer arranged by our hotel Hideaway. After exiting Maldives airport, Hideaway staff greets us and informs us that our domestic transfer has been scheduled in evening. We were very disappointed as we spent most of the 1st day at the airport. It would have been better if the hotel management would have informed us beforehand about the domestic flight timings. We checked into our property at 8.30 pm. After check-in, we noticed that the room s phone wasn t working so we had to whatsapp our butler in case we needed anything or even call for buggy, then we are informed that our dinner will be closing at 9.30 pm so we had to hurry up for the dinner. We quickly changed our clothes and moved to the dinner area. As we were so tired, we wanted to hop in our room and take good rest. Just as we reached our room, our room keys were not working. So, we informed the staff there that our room keys are not working and they tried their best to open the door. As it was going to take some more time, we were shifted to the reception area. At 11.15 pm, we were informed that the key battery was low as the room was non-operational since April. Finally, we got into our room at 11.30 pm and we were hoping forward to good time for our next 3 days. As we woke up in the morning, we see that there is water leakage in the villa. We called our butler and he arranged for the technicians to our room. It took the technicians 2 hours to repair the water leakage issue. Even after the repair, there was not enough cooling in the villa so they shifted us to the adjacent villa. In the adjacent villa, the outdoor lights were not operational. Due to long shutdown because of covid pandemic, the villas seem to be not maintained. As we were so unhappy with the problems faced on our 1st day, we reported it to the top management. In the afternoon, manager named Arushad visits our room and informs us that hotel has decided to refund the amount for our 1st day stay. It is almost 3 months and we have not yet received any update from hotel about our refund. When we try to follow up, there is no reply from the hotel end.

I returned a few days from this beautiful structure. What to say? High quality throughout. The place is fantastic and the staff are of a high standard. They followed me and satisfied me in all my requests and needs. In addition, the service and food are excellent in restaurants. Activities on request are organized very well. I found myself very well in the sports complex and I also tried water sports, dinners of various types only. I have tried the jet ski that I personally love. The spa is very nice and the masseuses are very good. After the massage, you can relax in a beautiful jacuzzi with flower petals. Also what to say about the atmosphere that you breathe in this place .... magic is an understatement. I was in the water villa on the water, with infinity pool on the Maldives sea ... but turning I saw the villas on the island, they are fantastic and enjoy a lot of privacy. I recommend this resort to anyone who wants to spend a dream holiday in maximum relaxation and privacy. I can't wait to go back.

I went to honeymoon last year, the sea is beautiful, the facilities are clean and the staff is friendly. I was lucky and saw Manta Ray in the ocean.

We enjoyed our time together in this Resort. Most of the Staff was very friendly and quick in response. We spent quite a wonderful time in this resort and we hope to comeback the next time as well.

We would 100% recommend this hotel to you. Everything is there to have an unforgettable stay. The villas are beautiful and well spaced unlike other hotels in the Maldives where we are on top of each other. The decoration of the villa is beautiful and the size of the villa is amazing. The pool which has a jacuzzi is a big plus.

The island is huge but we felt like we were alone on the island which we were looking for when we arrived in the Maldives.

The case when it is difficult to note any special advantages. Just a good hotel in the Maldives, the manager of which did not fall into the insanity of covid restrictions.

My wife and I rented out the over water villa and had a great time, the view was breathtaking! Resort was beautiful, hospitality was outstanding and food was delicious. It surely maintained its standard as a 5 star resort. I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone who wants privacy, and a real hideaway along with gorgeous beach and beautiful scenery.
Suggestions for the guest: If possible try to land at the closest international airport (Hanimaadhoo in my case), and get all inclusive package that will give you options to try all the restaurants, food is pricy but maintains the standards.

We celebrated New Year's Eve in this hotel and stayed so satisfied that we booked it again for next year!

The most amazing place on earth. It s actually heaven on earth. No kidding. We went there for honeymoon and it was the best decision of our life. It is the most romantic place on earth. We had got the over water villa and the villa was just amazing. It has infinity pool, great outdoor sitting, direct access to the ocean. From outside the villas look pretty close to each other but the way they have built it, you get the best privacy. The snorkeling here is great, in fact all water sports are amazing. I can go on and on about this place. If you are thinking about this place, then just book it. It s heaven on earth.

Absolute Paradise ! Perfect honeymoon destination! Must visit!

5 stars for a 5 star ! We were planning to celebrate our anniversary in Maldives. As the paradise island resort favorite to many of our Indian travel agencies was full , we searched the Google for best resorts in Maldives and stumbled upon this, Hideaway at Dhonakulhi island. As the set up looked great we told our travel agent to book it for 3 nights with full board and a beach barbecue Private dinner for our anniversary on 24 th November. We arrived at male airport on 23th Nov. 2019. From Mumbai after a 2.5 hrs flight when we came out there were counters of various resorts outside, we contacted Hideaway's counter, then the guy led us to a domestic flight which after 1 hour landed at hannimaddhu airport. The Hideaway guys were waiting for us there, it took 30 minutes of jet boat ride to reach Hideaway. We were warmly welcomed by the resort manager on the beat of a local drummer and with flower garlands. He introduced us to Louise, our personal butler. Who then took charge of us and catered for our every need for next 3 days. She then dropped us in our water villa with Private pool. It was dark till then. When we woke up in morning we were stunned by the beauty of this place. The island is approx 1.5 km length crescent moon shaped land with beautiful turquoise shallow lagoons on both sides protected from the deep blue waters of Arabian sea by reefs. The 50 odd water villas on the south east side are standing in lagoon water with a wooden jetty like platform of half a kilometer connecting to the island. They have 4 restaurants in the resort, namely sunset pool cafe, meeru bar, samsara asian fusion and matheefaru. All with different mixed menus for guests from various countries, but ofcourse dominated by seafood. They have employees and chefs from 75 countries. Their main restaurant is matheefaru, where when all the meals breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets are served when you are on full board. As we were strictly vegetarian we told our concern to our butler louise, she took care of it by introducing us to the Indian manager sutsekhar and chef sonu who managed all our meals with our vegetarian preferences. We had paid for Private dinner on 24th November 2019 our anniversary, they did a marvelous set up on beach at Meeru Bar. They even did change the menu according to our choice. Even it was drizzling that evening they made great efforts to make it a romantic candlelight beach side dinner. The phillipino singer at the bar even sang 2 hindi Bollywood songs for us. Thanks to the above mentioned staff of hideaway to make our anniversary memorable. On the last day when the sea was calm we also enjoyed kayaking and jet skiing at their water sports center. Our butler louise also took care to plan our return journey so that we don't miss our return flight home. Again many thanks to our butler louise, manager sutsekhar and chef sonu and another Indian chef unfortunately whose name I don't remember and all the helpful staff of Hideaway to make our trip memorable. We had a marvelous time at Hideaway.

A very beautiful island. Everything is well-groomed, the territory is all green and people take great care of it.
They feed for all 5, the house reef is beautiful and varied, we saw moray eels, stingrays, turtles and manta rays. In the evenings, feeding fish is an amazing sight. Beautiful souvenirs with dolphins, sharks and rays are sold.

A nice young man named Muhatar was there to take care of all my needs and did a super amazing work for me. Arrangements were made whenever i asked him for all my small and big needs.
A very amazing chef in their inventory took great care of my fooding needs. He was a bengali man from west bengal named Shankar if i am not wrong. Cooked me the food of my taste.

The best hotel I ve ever been privileged enough to stay at. Gorgeous property, smooth and fast check-in and check-out, it only gets more breathtaking when you walk in Premium quality Villa (there was even a tv by the jacuzzi ), with stunning sea view, and high quality service and the amenities were great. Every staff member I encountered, from the check- in, The staff was the nicest staff I have ever encountered at a hotel. They were always friendly and asked how our stay was going every time we walked in the door. They also were able to recommend places to get any type of meal that we needed as well. Specially I would like to mention here Mr. Zareer (Butler) & Ingrid Meloni ( Guest services manager), Thank you for making our stay memorable. All the restaurants & bar at the island is so wonderful, food was so delicious, i will recommend SAMSARA restaurant for people who likes to have Vegetarian indian food, although all the restaurant on the islan has great variety and fine value tasting menu.

Aarrival was painful because of the cancelation of the domestic flight but after reaching the resort Mr. Chirstophe made our experience change to joyful from painful.

The staff are all great, from the resort manager to the cleaning workers, everyone is smiling and welcomes you all with good manners and polite. Special thanks to Sister Omaima for her good handling and facilitating all matters to provide maximum comfort for the resort's conditions. Professional work with distinction, attention to the smallest details and providing everything needed Client .

The buffet is varied, clean and tasty. It offers oriental, Indian and Asian food. The staff is very friendly and proactive.

1- The resort is very, very far
When you arrive at the airport, you take your bags, and when you are greeted by the resort staff, they take you to an internal airport, check tickets, and wait an hour or more to travel to this island. The flight is approximately more than 35 minutes by plane, then you arrive at a small airport, take your bags and look to receive other employees, and install a bot (near a small), and then 30 minutes while you are at sea disturbing the airport and then arrive at the resort. I mean, tired in tiredness until you reach the resort. We arrived at Mali airport at 12 noon and entered the resort at 7 pm in the evening. Tired, frankly tired of waiting, and the internal flight was a miserable and frightening smell of small fans.

2- We took a villa in the sea and we were greeted by a large cockroach, and it was eliminated and the room was cleaned.

I returned a few days from this beautiful structure. What to say? High quality throughout. The place is fantastic and the staff are of a high standard. They followed me and satisfied me in all my requests and needs. In addition, the service and food are excellent in restaurants. Activities on request are organized very well. I found myself very well in the sports complex and I also tried water sports, dinners of various types only. I have tried the jet ski that I personally love. The spa is very nice and the masseuses are very good. After the massage, you can relax in a beautiful jacuzzi with flower petals. Also what to say about the atmosphere that you breathe in this place .... magic is an understatement. I was in the water villa on the water, with infinity pool on the Maldives sea ... but turning I saw the villas on the island, they are fantastic and enjoy a lot of privacy. I recommend this resort to anyone who wants to spend a dream holiday in maximum relaxation and privacy. I can't wait to go back.

Amazing!!! My husband And I came here for our honeymoon and it was truly great. The staff was fantastic and very helpful. Many activities to do and there were so many romantic things to do as well. There are also many options for private things to enjoy. I loved our villa it was very clean, romantic and private. I loved every minute of being there. 100000000/10! We will definitely visit again!

What a beautiful spot in the world!It was the first time to maldives and it was an unforgettable vacation.we loved everything and is just so genuine, nice, food 5*. The villa is very private and have a nice pool.We just stayed for 3 days and felt at home straight away, it was hard to leave. The staff are super welcoming and happy to help you with any request.fantastic in reception, going far above and beyond for our stay, the house keeping team made sure we were set, the food and beverage team do an amazing job every single day. thank you to each and every staff member that made our holiday so relaxing and pleasant. we will definitely be back.

After my 14 day stay, here is my review:
A resort with plenty of space and a wide range. The journey is quite long because once you arrive in Male you have to take a domestic flight. So there is no air taxi available. Then a speedboat to arrive on the island. Prepare for long waiting times. They mainly have customers from Asian countries. That is why they put a certain priority on Chinese customers. The hotel is very child-friendly and accordingly has a supervised children's area where they can leave their children. Since the island is so big, two bicycles are available for each villa. 8-tung when driving at night is very dark and it can happen that the bikes disappear for inexplicable reasons, especially in the restaurant - but after 1-2 days they are brought back by the staff. In addition, bougies with a driver are also available so that guests can get from one place to another quickly. Here I recommend you to plan enough time, mainly with reduced operation. Just calculate with 15-20 minutes waiting time. The staff are very friendly and try to give everything, even though they occasionally get lost in the chaos. There is no western mentality here so be patient and understanding. There is a personal butler who looks after 6-7 additional resort guests. The villas here are very spacious and have a pool. The food is highly recommended because every day is freshly prepared. You maintain your own garden with fruit and vegetables. In addition to diving, tennis, gym, table tennis, jet skiing, surfing and many other activities are available. I recommend diving very much, because they have a lot of beautiful dive sites and also night diving is awesome for AOW! In conclusion, it can be said that the long journey is worthwhile and that you can count on an unforgettable holiday. For internet junkies, WiFi speeds are really lagging behind. But for a fee of 50 dollars you can get a dongle with a 10GB data package. The prices are without (10% service charge + 12% hotel tax)! So think carefully about what you want to consume.
This is our eighth time in Maldives and we have seen and experienced a lot. Therefore, we can easily assess whether a resort is recommended. In addition, I am a critical person.
