The aurora around the hotel feels luxurious with its history and magnificence, however, the rooms are small and worn. But an extremely big plus to the food, it's the best I have eaten in all of Sri Lanka. Only the food in cool is worth a visit, then it is a really nice beach and amazingly friendly staff.

I have stayed at this hotel every time I have come to Sri Lanka. I have enjoyed it very much in the past, but now has lots of staff that absolutely do nothing. Most do not understand what guest service means. It seems they are not motivated anymore. Breakfast buffet costs about USD $12-13 per person which is steep. Coffee packets and other small amenities in the room are not refilled by housekeeping. Takes at least 50 minutes for them to bring some tea bags or coffee packets requiring numerous reminder phone calls to the front desk who also take forever to answer!! Hotel has a great view. It is a short walk to the train station. The Wifi is decent and stable which allows WhatsApp calls.

The hotel is a beautiful colonial place with a lot of history. Said to be the home of a British governor back in the day, the hotel (and its surrounding) is named after his mistress Lavinia. Sunsets at the terrace are recommended while the pool is a nice e place to wind down towards the evening. Recommend food at the "Fish Market" (the hotel's sea food restaurant) which is about 3000 per person.

This is a good place to be. Food and the service quality is really good. But there is something to consider lots of my friends used to work here they don t treat their staff well. Their employees used to work nonstop and they are not really happy with it. Other than that everything is good!

I loved the hotel. Slightly on the expensive side but it is certainly value for money. The view from the rooftop is breath taking. They have a private beach, a a couple of restaurants on the beach which offer amazing food along with a poolside restaurant. The spa is also worth experiencing

Just magnificent, a must for older people especially. Service is like that of the 19th century. All world food and drink is available however I would recommend going with the Sri Lankan curry dishes, Dr Chef Publis Silva is a culinary genius and his food is among the best in the world. Any activity you wish to persue will be catered for, they took me fishing! A must if you are looking for real luxury.

This is a disgrace of a hotel. They demean you by making you get down from your transportation 100 meters infront of the hotel gate and subject you to a humiliating body search, that consists of prodding you while being scanned by a metal detector. DO not visit if you have any dignity

It is a historic hotel that retains the story of the governor who fell in love with the Sri Lankan woman as the residence of the former British governor. The scene of the sea just before is as beautiful as the love story.

I came here last April and was very disappointed. I have come back and over the last 3 weeks i have stayed at the mount 3 times. I have given a 4 star review as i feel that some of the rooms need refurbishment. I'm glad to see the pool area service is much better and the food and variety of food is still excellent here. However after being a regular guest at the mount for over 20yrs i must say the gym has never been looked at by management. I am sure its been the same for the last 20yrs with old machines that look pre-historic and are dangerous to use. Dear Mount Lavinia did you really think nobody would notice? The pointless games room and bar area should be scrapped and all 3 rooms NEED to be kitted out with a state of the art gym perhaps wth TRX facilities. I have noticed its becoming more and more expensive to stay at mount Lavinia now, so i think its vital that a state of the art gym facility is available to guests to justify the price increases. Also please change those awful shower curtains to glass panels.
P.s Thanks so much to Aruni at the pool terrace who has made me feel special for many years now and the guys who open the door who i have known for many years. You guys make my stay special every time i come here.

This old colonial governor's mansion now turned into a hotel boasts an amazing buffet and also offers live entertainment with a spectacular view of the colombo skyline. Also the buffet per person is 3100 rupees.

The hotel has a wing which is bordered by the railway. The rooms are terrible. Changed three numbers. The staff pretends that for the first time sees this problem (the side doors are not working on the balcony (they are rusty in the last century), the railway, right next to the building, the vibration is as if you are on rails!) Half of the hotel just does not match its purpose : relaxation! For the former consulate of Slovakia it was suitable, it is not suitable for a hotel). On business trips, time is only for rest, but not for such ...

Good food is average we so much of money for quarantine and it's our hard-earned money at least they should give us proper meals. You can't blame the staff the staff is helpless I think they should arrange proper good mail so that people who sit for 14 days will enjoy as you know Sri Lanka's love to eat and the lack of staff but the staff is very friendly very helpful I press the staff. The management should give the staff advantage of money cleanliness lots of supply moments to keep the guestI hope the hotel will come to the same standard that it was that two years ago I wish the hotel best of luck. Cleanliness is really lacking due to the less of staff

Sunsets are beautiful from here. But the service was really horrible. My husband had to ask for his order thrice and it took over 60 minutes to get a drink. The waiters weren't attentive and when called upon to remind the order a different person was sent and we had to repeat the story all over again.
The manager did come and apologize later.

Just ok. Rooms were nice and food was pretty good but god forbid you need a drink from the bar in the pool area at all. Bar staff had no clue what was going on. Wasn t even that busy and we were waiting 20+ minutes for drinks with other customers getting served well ahead of us, literally stood at bar and watched other customers walk up and get drinks served whilst we waited. Happy hour isn t the term I d use

Great value for money hotel between all the big chains. Faultlessly clean, super comfortable beds and great shower. Modern looking. The swimming pool is great and the staff are all without exception a total delight. Must stay for Colombo stop overs.

staff at the roof top bar were very friendly and really enjoyed a chat. They both really enjoyed working at the hotel.

Night sky view from roof top definitely a worth a shot.

Mount Lavinia hotel used to be the best star hotel in outskirts of Colombo with a colonial heritage. They used to serve authentic Sinhalese food. That during the time when Publis Silva was the master chef of the hotel.

I spent three days at Mt. Lavinia hotel late February 2018, today quality of venue has been reduced drastically probably due to the poor maintenance. Also, food is not tasty as it used to be.

It's really sad that that to witnesses a grand hotel deteriorating like this. Management should take immediate action to reverse it.

Stayed 2 nights. Stunning views from all rooms and. Sea cove restaurant is a unique experience . Rooms are spacious and clean , service is prompt , food is good , views are spectacular and the place is steeped in history ! Would have liked some more smiles from the staff though. The bar tender was especially grumpy, otherwise would have given 5 stars
