We've been coming here for over 10 years and our last stay felt like it was a completely different experience. From the confusing line of cars at the entrance where we were asked to fill out a form online about covid with no reception and asked to fill in and circle back to the beginning of the long lIne of cars (with an attitude!) to the rushed welcome, rushed service at ala carte dining room... everything just felt like it was run by a completely different company. On the last day of our stay we went down for breakfast at 9:30am to find out it was closed... the lady there had no idea where to send us as an alternative.. a lot of new employees with no clue of anything about mohonk mountain house and we ended up standing on a 20 minute line for a continental breakfast! Felt like a best western. The funny thing is with all of the changes that have taken place they have the nerve to still charge full price with no discounting during these "weird" times at the hotel. This used to be my favorite place in the world, that has now changed for my family. They may have just lost generations of stays from our family. I would wait until things go back to normal before going to this place.

Beautiful facility, the grounds filled with a delightful "staff" of snowmen. Lovely ice skating rink. Delicious aromas wafting through the air as we walked about, sipping our tea and hot chocolates. A very nice visit indeed!

We went to Mohonk at the end of July,2013- It was a day experience. We planned a horseback riding excursion and lunch package which was actually very affordable. We enjoyed a wonderful day at Mohonk. However, I really wanted to comment on the demeanor of the employees at the stables.
The people who did the actual trail rides were actually very personable and nice. There were two other memorable employes though that were frankly offensive and rude to our entire group. It was really a disappointment. Both of them seemed to be tired, cranky, and sarcastic and not very good at working with people. Maybe it was the day, but on my worst day dealing with people I never had the tone, attitude or rudeness that these two possessed.
When my 13yr. old stood waiting for directions to mount the horse, the attendant said"get on the horse"- when I commented to him that a little more direction my be needed the boy was only 13- he then said"It's not rocket science." He proceeded to engage in an argument with me until I said "I cannot believe you are arguing with me."
The woman in charge also had an offensive attitude. While giving direction she barked at each of us, and when the hand position of one of our party members was incorrect she grabbed his hand and said "No, this way". Honestly If they had gone on the trail with us, I would have asked to end my experience. It really was a terrible experience and I was both shocked and disappointed. I am so very sorry that these 2 employees were so miserable. It really was embarrassing.

Fortunately the trail ride was pleasant, and Mohonk has always been one of my favorite places ever!

This is my go to escape/retreat from NYC. I absolutely adore the beautiful mountain landscapes, hiking trails, lake, spa, as well as the local town which caters to every endulgence of cuisine you could be interested in eating.

I love going to Mohonk. The staff there are always so accommodating and so friendly and they always go above and beyond to make sure your stay there is incredible and pleasant and awesome. I have yet to get a better massage anywhere and the bartender Abe at the carriage lounge makes THE BEST DRINKS. He's amazing. Seriously. If you haven't been to mohonk yet you're missing out. Worth every penny

We went here on a hiking day pass (make sure to book online! Tickets are limited, and they were sold out and turning people away who hadn't booked). It is BEAUTIFUL. We walked the Labyrinth - which is this crazy rock scramble where you have to squeeze through all these narrow gaps and even little tunnels through the rubble; climb up and down ladders on steep cliffs; scramble over boulder fields. It was also nice to see that they were checking temperatures of everyone coming in.

4* because its very expensive ($30/head for a hiking day pass) and the parking for day users is right by the entrance - quite a long walk away from the house, the Labyrinth etc.

Really a 2.5 star. My wife, daughter and I went up for the day to ice skate. Had never been to this place before. The positive first, the ice rink was very nice and for the first 30 minutes we had the place to ourselves. Property is beautiful. So despite the moronic front gate keeper, we had a fun day. Expensive for ice skating, $27 a person, but paid for the experience.

As far as the front gate, we got there at 1:20pm and they made us pull over in the adjacent parking lot to wait until 1:30pm to allow us to go up. It was no big deal, to wait ten minutes, but it is stupid and leaves a bad impression on potential future hotel guests. I understand they don't want the "Public" to be in the facility, when guests are overpaying to stay at the hotel, but I was paying $80 to go ice skating. It would have left a positive impression rather than the negative one which garners this review.

Also, they don't allow you to eat in the lounge unless you are a hotel guest. I guess this makes the place exclusive, however, my money is green and we would like to have eaten a light lunch in the lounge. The alternative was a $200 (for three people) buffet lunch, which we were not interested in.

Also, at the ice rink, they had a crappy hot chocolate machine at the skate rental counter. If you posture yourself as an exclusive resort, you would think that offering legit hot chocolate or snacks at an otherwise beautiful facility, would make sense and more money. It is the details that people remember.

Sorry for rambling but things are coming to my mind as I'm writing this. I have worked in the hospitality industry for a short three years (I hated it), so I know what managing a high end hotel is all about. Most welcome guests who aren't actually staying at the hotel. While you might not be able to use all of the facilitates, understandably, most hotels encourage outsiders to come dine or have a drink with them. Even very fancy hotels that cost more per night. I think Mohonk needs to get over themselves. I'm sure this all stems from the management culture and the buck should fall on the GM of this facility.

But the ice skating rink was nice and more importantly my daughter enjoyed the day which was the purpose of our visit.

It's a great place to go for corporate events. Allot of different level hikes (easy walks to hard core scrambles), recreation areas and nice rocking chairs if you just want to knit. This time around I also went to the barn museum that is a hidden gem. Totally check out the hydro elevator. I gave four stars since it's a little high cover charge if not going for a prepaid event.

I came up here from NYC to see the sky top tower, this resort is ridiculous with their prices. They think I will pay $26 for a hike on their grounds only to walk 1.5 miles to get there from the parking area. Let the suckers in for a premium price.

Beautiful Mohonk Mountain House is the ultimate mountain top lake resort experience. I ve stayed many times as our family has been going since I was young and my brother got married there. Everything is top notch and family friendly. They have a Kid s Club with planned activities if mom and dad want some alone time. The resort has been family owned by the Smiley family since the 1870 s and it shows. They take pride in serving their clients and creating an experience that makes you want to return. The meals are prepared by experienced chefs and are inclusive in the price. There is always something going on whether you re an avid hiker, concert goer or just want to swim in the lake or hang out at the spa. You never have to leave until it s regrettably time to go home. Ralph, the go to guy overseeing the operations, is a problem solver with a wonderful personality. The Smiley s are always on premises making the resort an unforgettable oasis from the hustle and bustle of the rat race.

Beautiful, historic hotel in a beautiful setting. Service is excellent - everyone is so friendly - and the rooms manage to retain all of the old school, country charm while offering the comfort of a 5-star hotel. I went for a small work retreat and this was perfect, but would also take my family for a fun weekend in a second.

So many amazing hiking trails. The best part is that each trail loop only takes 45 minutes to an hour, so you can see a lot in one day. Many of the trails are easily walkable without super steep grades, so they're really good if you're older or simply want a beautiful nature walk that isn't strenuous and can be done in jeans and sneakers. There are still a good number of hikes and rock scrambles for those who want more of a physical challenge.

The house is huge, old and full of history. Meals are fantastic. My only gripe is that for the prices you pay as an overnight guest, there is nowhere you can go between meals for complimentary coffee, tea or bottled water (apparently you are allowed one bottle of water per person per day, but you have to call the operator every day and have it delivered). It's small things like this that would make the experience better. Service at dinner was very good, but at breakfast and lunch drink refills were a little difficult to come by. Regardless all staff, in the dining room and otherwise, was wonderful and extraordinarily friendly.

Bottles of wine purchased at dinner and not finished at dinner can be taken back to the room or left at the bar and finished at a future meal -- that is really nice. If you want to drink after dinner and have space in your luggage, I'd suggest bringing your own wine, though.

The rooms seem to isolate noise pretty well, but we were in a tower suite so maybe that had something to do with it. Having a real, wood-burning fire every night was a lot of fun! There were plenty of drawers and closet space for our clothes (5 nights worth).

Overall such a great experience and we can't wait to return!

This is our fourth time at Mohonk. The quality of service has diminished significantly overtime. If you have a young child, the checkin manager tends to situate your room in nosier parts of the building. Our child was unable to nap the entire trip due to the noise, making it an unenjoyable trip for my child and parents. Staff was not accommodating when I asked them to move us. Moreover, the checkin manager was rude and unsympathetic about our situation. Pretty poor service for spending well over $1,000 per night!!! It s quieter in Manhattan. For families with young kids, the rocking horse ranch may be more suitable and accommodating. In the past, Mohonk was a nice place to visit but the level of service and selection of activities has declined.

This place is just amazing. It's also amazingly expensive - get a midweek "deal" if you can. However, it is indeed paradise. There are so many activities, on land and on the beautiful lake. The meals are just wonderful. The rooms are lovely and comfortable. Wish we could afford to go more often! A treat indeed.
