Pros:

Pros:
-Beautiful grounds/scenery
-Kid + family friendly
-Many activities
-Staff and grounds were very COVID compliant

Cons:
-Extremely expensive for the quality and service (they include a daily 15% gratuity per room as well as an auto-gratuity for any alcoholic beverages purchased)
-The food quality is mediocre
-You need to make reservations for every activity, including lunch/dinner (which we were never told at check-in).
-I found the majority of the staff to be unfriendly (this could in part be because nobody wanted to work amidst a pandemic)
-Many of the activities weren't available due to COVID but the pricing stayed the same (we wanted to rent mountain bikes and were told that it would be $30/person).
-Not many areas for adults to enjoy peace and tranquility (mostly due to the fact that adult + children areas were intermixed)

Overall:
5 star prices for 2 star food and service. If you're a young couple looking for a peaceful weekend getaway then I'd consider looking elsewhere.

An absolutely amazing resort with beautiful vistas, numerous trails, a gorgeous lake, and great service. There are many outdoor activities for solos, couples, and families. The food has been plentiful and delicious. The best part may be the kind and attentive staff. They are eager to help and ensure that you have a good stay at Mohonk. Highly recommend for a getaway that will let you disconnect and appreciate nature.

The grounds and food are top notch. I would have given this review 5 stars but feel what they now charge cannot be justified. I have been there 5 times in the past 10 years. They have increased their prices so much that I am now looking for other options. The spa is beautiful however more options for beverages and food upon completion of your services are needed. Tea, grapes and tap water doesn't cut it. You pay top dollar for their services.

We stayed at the Grove Lodge on mohonk mountain with family for Christmas and it was beautiful. Every room had an amazing bathroom, tall ceilings and a wonderful fire place. The main area is spacious and lovely. The staff were attentive. The breakfast/ lunch buffet was delicious. I only have two issues with the stay ... None of us could get hot water, it was luke warm to warm at best. I took a bath in the soaking tub and had the hot water all the way up with no cold on at all and it was barely hot enough to enjoy. Also the showers water pressure was abysmal. This was a problem for all of us at the Grove Lodge. Also the evening dinner service was okay the first night but Christmas dinner was a a terrible experience, they didn't have a big enough table to accommodate us even though we had a reservation then took thirty minute to figure out how to combine tables and instead of adding the long six tops together we got a giant square monster that you had to shout to talk to anyone. The drinks came out promptly but the food just never came we got there at 7 and we're finally served the dinner portion by nine something. One of the family's in our party had young kids she had to leave before she even ate her food to get something in them and get them to bed before 10pm. It was almost 11 before the night was over. We should have just stayed in and order room.service which OMG there fries are the best. Other than the dinner and the water the place was beautiful, full of tons of family activities and well accommodating.

This is an amazingly well preserved hotel with many extras for the visitors. It has grounds of 1200 acres and the adjacent preserve adds an additional 7500 acres including Shawangunk Ridge. On the land there are 85 miles of hiking and biking trails. Yes these are all available to the visitors of this 1869 hotel complex. The pictures say it all. The building is like entering a resort of 150 years ago. Some rooms have fireplaces, others have fantastic views of the lake and distant mountains. I loved to just walk down the halls and look at the pictures taken long ago of the location and adjacent mountains and forests.

This is a private preserve and entrance is carefully monitored so that guests are not bothered by distractions. There is a famous spa, swimming pool. Pond with row boats, horseback riding and so much more. I particularly enjoyed the trails. They are so well maintained. Then there is the large ice skating rink up in the woods with a huge fireplace to keep you warm on the coolest nights.

I think the pictures show the wonderful fairyland like ambience of the location. There is also a varied food menu and the staff are always near to help with suggestions for a pleasant leisurely meal. Go there for your wedding adventure, anniversary, or just a special time to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The nearness to NYC makes it an easy location to reach with excellent roads all the way. Takes about 1 1/2 hours to reach. But to enjoy take 2 hours and stop along the way to view the changing scenery. You will never forget this visit and want to return to add another adventure to ones lives as you will never experience all that this resort has to offer in one weekend!

My wife has stayed at Mohonk Mountain House 20 times and I have been with her for 6 of these trips. We enjoy ice skating, swimming, spa treatments, hiking and Excellent dinning. The Mountain House is set atop a mountain ridge nessled next to a 17 acre lake cut by a glacier. The Mountain House should be on everyone's bucket list!!!!!

Rooms have views they say. Youre up high on the mountain so you should have a view. What you wont have is proper heating, TV, fridge (wont even mention microwave), proper blinds in the windows, decent quality towels. And thats just about rooms. Old carpet and wallpaper making you think if your room wasn t a crime scene some time ago...
Next stop is food. I mean you will feel well received with access to various delicacies...as long you choose a buffet. I dont remember when last time it tool me so long to make simple reservation and yet i was told to be precisely on time or my table will given away. Main dinner room just like its menu has barely anything to offer.
Its no the worst place but sure a place i wouldnt recommend to a friend. Pictures are so overrated. Honestly for a half a price a night good well know hotel will give you better memories.

It's more than perfect for a quick cozy rustic gateway if you are willing to pay pretty high price tag. I did not stay there but relaxed there with a friend after a long and pretty challenging hike. The views were absolutely amazing though.

Know what you're getting into when you book at this historic hotel which goes for over $500 per night. There's no aware winning Michelin star restaurants, no private White sands beaches, no guest DJs spinning at a nightclub that stays open all night long. Don't expect a built in big screen LED TV in your room, in fact don't expect any TV. The rooms are small, the standard room has a full size bed (not even queen) and perosnally I woke up with a bad back. The hotels decor and room amenities are tired.

But that's not why you book Mohonk. You're not paying $700 a night for these things, you're paying for the experience. Mohonk is a historic hotel, almost like sleeping in a museum where many US presidents and Titans of industry have laod their heads. The views are priceless and I suspect the land surrounding the hotel grounds are subsidized by those high room rates. Hiking, biking, canoeing, and anything outdoors. These are the things you go to Mohonk for. To reconnect with nature and disconnect with your electronic devices. Great classes for your body and mind are included, so is decent meals (no alcohol) and activities for couples and families. Not a place to go as a single looking to mingle but maybe a group of friends.

It is an interesting experience being at this retreat. The hiking possibilities are plentiful, the lake is awesome with Trout swarming around, the Sky Tower is worth the trip and at night, the resort looks like Hogwarts from the Harry Potter films. The FOOD is like you are on a cruise ship so bring your appetite. Remember there are NO TVs in the rooms so be prepared to hang with nature. But overall, it was a great time had and I will return.

Such a shame! I stay at Skytop lodge in PA.. I heard Mohawk Mountain House was their competition. You must pay $100 or do a over night stay ($700) to view the property. They don t have dinner options available so I couldn t purchase that pass. Why would I have to pay to see their property?! That would be like having to pay before test driving a car. I ll stick with Skytop Lodge!

I have been coming here for many, many years. My mother used to come here as a kid as well, and so she has fond memories. As do I! When I was younger there was a place for kids to go with other kids for the parents to have some alone time to relax and go to the spa! As I got older the food and other activities have become more fun and interesting! I highly recommend coming here. Beautiful hotel with breathtaking views anywhere you go.

A tired Hudson Valley hotel, that is less the advertised Victorian Castle Resort and more lodge surrounded by 40,000 acres of forest, easy trails, and sporadic wildlife. Nestled on the bank of Mohonk Lake, expect to be greeted by "lodge's" incredibly friendly staff and dine on some of the best food you will find anywhere in the region at the small dining room - the Duck Ragu and the Prime Rib are tops - although the wine selection could be revised to better compliment the exquisite menu offerings. Clearly Mohonk Mountain House has seen better days. The entire structure is in dire need of an extensive, and probably costly, renovation, aesthetically and structurally. I counted no less than 7 different patterns of carpeting, some flowing into the next, and the wall papering might have witnessed the end of WWII and the moon landings. The building is drafty and the hallways cool, even on mild days, and the beds leave much to be desired and are a chiropractors nightmare. Surprising to me is the remarkably tiny and limited hotel bar, almost an afterthoguht, tucked away and hidden.
Clearly, Mohonk Mountain House was a choice Hudson Valley destination for vacationers to experience the great outdoors in relative comfort during the days of horse drawn carriages and prohibition, but now, you could there are dozens of alternative options across the region and country at the same cost or less but offering substantially better value. The premium pricing for a night, or even weekend stay is staggering given the tired accommodations and arguably limited activities and amenities available. The Smiley family has definitely forgone decades of necessary capital expenditures at the expense of the client experience. The repeated accolades awarded to the spa are questionable. Average in size and with an advertised mineral pool which is clearly just a regular hot tub, the staff is nonetheless friendly and capable, but I we aren't talking Canyon Ranch or others.

We had a great weekend. The food was amazing and beautifully platted. The breakfast and dinner buffet offered choices for everyone, the food as well as the plates were kept appropriately hot/cold. The chaffing dishes were not overly large and the food was restocked quickly. The out door activities were easily accessed and updated daily and if you just want a quiet place to read, you had many choices and the afternoon tea and cookies is a great way to start the evening. Our rooms were clean and comfortable. I'd love to go back again.

Always a pleasure to come back here. Twice for business meetings, and another time for a girls weekend. I ve hike around there as well. The Lemon Squeeze is the best. Don t let the cracky floors deceive you in this all inclusive resort. The staff is friendly overall and the service is excellent. I just wish I could have been allowed in the spa to enjoy the pool with my night stay.

Historic hotel in Hudson Valley, New York. It's like the stage of the movie "Dirty Dancing".
The hotel building is old but kept clean. The service is excellent.
There are various types of rooms, but each type has its own taste.
There are many activities available, but trekking near the hotel is comfortable.

I've been to Mohonk a few times but not as an overnight guest. The house itself is gorgeous but what I came for was the Lemon Squeeze trail. It's a trail where you scramble up rocks and ladders to reach the top. There are places where you need to squeeze and crawl through as well. It's challenging but a lot of fun. There are arrows that show you the way so you won't get lost. The hardest part is near the end where you climb up an almost vertical ladder and hoist yourself up. It's a unique experience that I would recommend. There is a fee to get in ($26) which seems a little much but I think it was worth it.

Very nice and highly recommend to all! The only thing that needs improvement is the water temperature while showering would change often between hot & cold, which is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. Location is very top quality all inclusive customer focused, family friendly and accommodating.

This is potentially one of the best places for a little retreat. Everything is all inclusive (even the tips) so you don't have to bring any money anywhere there. Well... Except for the Spa, as they have services and products you might want to buy on the spot (by the way, the spa is awesome! Great service, nice little hot tub on the side). Food was good, and they were very considerate as I was checking in very late (i called them to inform) and they offered to leave some food for dinner in my room without me even asking.
Will certainly be going there again and again.

Soooo beautiful! The views along the lake and different hiking trails are utterly breathtaking. I had several "there is a God" moments from the natural beauty during my stay. :)

I highly enjoyed hiking, swimming, canoeing, paddle boarding, horseback riding and even Tomahawk throwing! The spa was so soothing.

I recommend doing some homework before your trip. See what activities are available, when they are and whether you have to make reservations. Having a game plan allowed for us to fully enjoy all that Mohonk has to offer. Also, make sure to reserve your mealtimes in advanced. The main dining room can get very busy.

Our week vacation this past August was worth every penny. Kudos to all employees. They do a fantastic job.

The property has fun rock scrambling paths and the lake is nice for a short rowboat, kyak or paddle board excursion; but not worth the very high price for overnight stays. It is an old, dark, unupdated resort, with seating areas that are frumpy without views, a sad gameroom in a small closed in plain room, drinks and room service overpriced. The indoor pool is in a beautiful enclosed setting with large windows which is very nice. Same for the main dining area, large windows with great views, but the chef action stations just means waiting in line after line for each course, which are tasty and well prepared. If this resort could take away decor ideas from the Homestead then it could be worth the price. All staff of the resort were exceptional.
