Beautiful idyllic setting in the mountains. Great spot for outdoor enthusiasts and those who just want to relax. Good service with high quality food provided as part of your room price. I rated it only a three stars this time due to a significant water issue. First, absolutely no hot water to shower with and second, it was so brown and full of sand and silt it would have been like bathing in a mud puddle (see pics). The hotel staff insisted the water was still safe to shower with but who would want to? I would have felt more dirty than before the shower and had sand coming out of my hair all day. For the price of the room and their reputation, I expect a much better experience than this.

Mohonk Mountain House is a fantastic getaway that is convenient to the city. All staff were welcoming and accommodating despite an hour+ delay on our check in time.

The rooms are as nice as can be expected for a rustic hotel of this vintage, but keep in mind that if you are at all sensitive to smoke avoid booking a room with a fireplace. Ours smelled like a campfire, which I don't entirely mind, but definitely something to be aware of. You can also clearly hear conversations from the hallways and neighboring rooms.

Food was hit or miss over the course of our stay. Results ranged from excellent to "meh", but nothing was terrible. Each meal is included in the stay and is several courses, so you will not ever be hungry even after hiking all day.

On to the good stuff! The spa experience at Mohonk was fantastic! The ambiance, staff, treatment options and facilities are all top notch! The hiking, grounds and views are also absolutely worth the trip alone.

This is not a resort designed to just hang out in your room. You need to get out and about, take in the surroundings, enjoy a massage and a dip in the outdoor mineral baths at the spa and appreciate the magnitude and history of the property.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back!

Honestly a solid 3.5 stars for our day trip for the Hudson Valley Ginger Bread Competition. Getting through the gate house was a bit of a chore. Four employees working three lines just did not go as smooth as one may have expected. Parking up at the hotel is subpar. The mountain house is dated but in a beautiful way. Architecture is incredible an makes you feel like you have taken a step back in time. The venue for the competition was tight but all proceeds went to a great cause. We had a delicious meal in the East dining area off the Carriage Lounge that was not over the top expensive. The grounds are spectacular, but if you are planning on outdoor activities be prepared for the weather.

Stopped there pre-COVID to check out the place, pick up a pamphlet and learn about the amenities (before dropping $500+ per night), but literally weren't even able to get out of the car before a security guard pulled up behind us, and told us to leave. Needless to say I found other places more welcoming to prospective guests.

its awful their food isn't served right. Its meat is raw and the quality to give if you're not a guest is terrible. I asked how to get a car and they put me through a long journey when I just had to wait for the car. EVERY SINGLE person I talked to in management was very grouchy and rude except one. Thanks for an awful 4th of July

I went for a spa day. I look forward to my next time! It was glorious. Staff was exceptional. Every little thing you could have wanted was there. The solarium, & veranda were fabulous! Outdoor mineral pool is a must! Complete relaxation, which was my intention. Not enough time for the steam room or sauna, will do it next time.

Beautiful location. The seemingly endless activities discard all worries of isolation or boredom. Hotel rooms themselves are comfy and cozy, and the shop, pool and lounges have rustic and cozy feelings about them. (With the help of many historic photographs throughout the halls) Hiking is exceptional, as well as taking a calming canoe ride around the tiny lake. The food, however left much to be desired, particularly the dinners, which often came at random intervals, incorrectly prepared, or otherwise lacking in taste, which is disappointing considering going out someplace or ordering in isn t really an option.

Beautiful location. Great views. Friendly, accommodating staff. We paid for the breakfast buffet which allowed us to park close to the hotel and have access to the hotel grounds. Wonderful time here!

Lake Mohonk is just so beautiful and peaceful. Don't look for noise or bedlam Instead you will feel calm and enjoy everything that used to be great hikes, pleasant people and majesty both inside and out.

Have been going there for decades. However, the New York governor's restrictions have hurt the quality of our experience. There have been reductions in maintenance, service and overall quality through no fault of theirs. Cost still the same. Our daughter, who is the driver for us visiting, commented that she sees no reason to return. Hope the place survives. Sorry.

This review is in regards to the spa, particularly the hair styling service they offer there. The context of the appointment was in preparation for my brothers wedding there later that day (more on that later). When I originally made the appointment I booked hair and make up. I changed my mind and canceled the makeup application. They were very accommodating and courteous. Also they were able to fit me in on two day notice, despite the fact that they were hosting two weddings the day of my appointment. Full disclosure - 15 years ago I worked at the spa at Mohunk, back when it was on the ground floor in the north west wing of the building, it was nice back then but I must say that what they transformed it into since then was 100 times better. The ambiance was calming, refined and beautiful. The staff was very service oriented. I showed up 10 minutes into my appointment and was winded from running up two flights of stairs (they have lovely elevators, but I thought I could get there quicker on foot.) they were able to extend my appointment and when they noticed I was a bit out of breath they brought me a glass of ice water and also a light snack at my station. There was a bit of sticker shock for me when I found out how much my hair do would cost ($146 gratuity included for long hair.) but given the once in a lifetime nature of this event I let it go. I'm glad I did because the finished product was worth it. Kyrie, my stylist was friendly, professional and skilled. Her work got comments from every one at the wedding. I hope she's still there when my children get married.

I have been to many spas both in the U.S and around the world. This is not a spa the hotel/house is run down with stains on the carpets in the hallways. The hallways are not even leveled it is truly run down. The individuals who work in the spa do not even know how to put the steam machines on properly to your face. They tell you to bring your bathing suit so that you may enjoy their mineral pool. The so called mineral pool is actually a jacuzzi for a max of 6 to 8 individuals. The only thing they do is apply lotions/oils to your face and do not remove white or black heads. For $165 this is outrageous you can get a much better facial at top locations in NYC for less and get a much better quality facial by properly trained employees.

Do not get ripped off with these ridiculous prices with employees who are not properly trained to perform the services advertised.

As specifically regards the spa, Mary the manager and Kiera were extremely helpful with our special request and fitting us in at the last minute. Can't say enough good things about their assistance and accommodation. You gals are awesome.

An excellent historic resort. This resort is in very good condition. The food is great, and there is plenty of recreational activities to keep busy. A great place to go hiking with the family.

Be aware. They don't treat their day guest based on what their website is stating. Even if you have lunch, dinner or spa reservations, you wont be able to use their amenities if they are busy. Because you have the last priority! Sad! We won't ever return.

For those who can afford it; the amenities are outstanding, the beauty of the local even more so and the service of the staff equal to both. Think ideal wedding venue within the State of New York.

Mohonk mountain house has an incredible restaurant. The selection (which comes from mostly locally sourced ingredients) has something for everyone. Also offering up vegetarian and gluten-free options! Always enjoy my time here at the restaurant. Both for ambience and the delicious offerings.

Have been coming to Mohonk for a few years now and we are still not sure what happened to their service?! My husband usually gets a gift card for me for a massage at Mohonk. As you know the services offered at Mohonk's Spa are in the upper category, so above the average. I usually get a deep tissue massage with bath, which is a total of $320 plus tip. My husband usually drops me off and goes to New Paltz to have some coffee in the village and have lunch with our son. So, we've done it twice already but this year we were told that in order for him to come up and drop me off, he needs to pay $29. We've done it already twice and no one every mentioned something to us. We didn't agree with that and wanted to talk to the Manager, but the Manager was worse than the lady at the gate. Eventually, we were allowed to come up and my husband had to leave his driver's license at the gate (!!!) and in case he didn't come back within 15 mins, they would have charged us $29. I understand that there are rules, BUT a few objections here:
1. How is it possible that you can't make it possible for someone to drop another person off? Can't you have a 'drop off pass' or something where you put in the time and if the person comes late, you charge the balance?
2. I ended up spending over $350 at the Spa. Are you really in such a bad financial state, that you need to fight with clients who have been coming for several times now to the Spa, stayed over night, etc. because of $29.
3. Let your customers know what to expect, so they don't have to stand at the gate, get the cars behind them angry and wait for 30 mins to resolve an issue like that.
Incredibly disappointed with your service!

I was a day hiker there and did the Labyrinth and the Lemon Squeeze. I loved the hike and the grounds were beautiful. I believe the 21 dollar entrance fee to be a little steep. I understand maintenance costs but access to the kayaks and paddleboats /beach would be a nice bonus for those that do pay a day pass. It may encourage those to book a stay once spending a bit more time on the grounds.

Everything about Mohonk Mountain House is wonderful! We have visited on several occasions and we are never disappointed. The rooms and grounds are beautiful, the food is delicious and everyone is friendly and go out of their way to help you. A special "thank you"to Diane Ippolito in Guest Relations who went above and beyond to make our stay special. Mohonk is a historic gem and a very special place. We will be back for sure!

The experience of time spent at Mohonk is something that will last a lifetime. I can't wait to return. The food and service is only topped by the scenery, trails and activities the Mountain House has to offer.

Mohonk Mountain is one of the best all encompassing resorts in the Hudson Valley. It has something for everyone, hikinking, swimming, rock climbing, boating and fishing. It's an expensive get away, but we'll worth it. Many notable guests visit each year and The Road to Wellville was filmed there. It's worth an overnight visit or come visit with a day pass. Money well spent!

Sorry there simply no way to justify the exorbitant prices they demand. The settings are beautiful and the building is a grand old edifice up on the mountain. However the place shows it's age. The service is not outstanding to warrant the price. $1,000 for a week would be well worth it. However not for a night

Everything about this beautiful place is fabulous. The house itself is breathtaking. Very cozy & inviting. The entire staff has been friendly, helpful & lovely. The spa is rated the best in the country and it lived up to it! There is a lot to do (we like relaxing) but heard the skating is great & the hiking incredible. Lastly hats off to the chef-the food is unbelievable. Every single meal has been amazing. I have never had such delicious, creative & beautiful food!!! I wish I could live here ;)

I received a weekend stay as a gift, and I had a wonderful time. The Mohonk Mountain House is very family friendly. Both my 13 year old and 1 year old were happy and had a good time. The food was great, and the staff was very attentive.

Fantastic drinks & food for the price, especially at the bar on the first floor. Grounds are beautiful, excellent rock scramble, awesome views. Recommended for special occasions, or for a breath of fresh air away from the city.

The rooms were very basic. But you are really paying for the experience and service. I attended the archery class, canoed, hiked to Skytop, and ate the meals. I would have to say the price was worth it for what you pay for.

Outstanding service and resort. They made our 38th anniversary very special and we are glad to return to the New Paltz area after 38 years....I am an alumna of SUNY New Paltz(1971-1975)!! Equivalent to parts of Europe at the same expense and close by with no traveling difficulties associated with the international airports. I would return there in a heartbeat! Looking forward to returning again for another anniversary celebration next September or so!
