The one thing besides family that keeps me coming back to Houston are the wonderful museums. We saw the Van Gogh exhibit and had a wonderful time introducing our children to one of my favorite artists in a way that was educational and relatable.

The MFAH is a fairly large museum with an extensive collection. They feature a variety of permanent exhibits that give a taste of a wide variety of arts from around the world, including an extensive collection of precolumbian gold, local artists, ancient and classical artifacts, native American antiquities, arts of the Islamic world, lovely films, and a large number of European treasures. The museum encompasses 2 buildings which will take hours to fully explore. The museum also features very lovely traveling exhibits Wich display masterworks from around the world, from Degas to Titian, to Van Gogh and Pollock at a reasonable price. Of special note is that Thursday has free general admission too all.

I've always enjoyed my visits to this museum, and I hope you will too!

I spent 1.5 hours at this museum. They have quite the collection of jewelry and gold from all over the world. Parking is a pain so I went to this and the Museum of Natural Sciences one right after the other. Their cafe is closed due to COVID. Make sure you take a map or you might miss some of the exhibits. I couldn't bring the map up through their website. I would say their collection is comparable to the Arts Museum in San Antonio, but the one in Dallas is a lot more impressive. All the fancy jewelry at this museum makes it worth it though.

Went to this museum while visiting Houston during a road trip. WOW. Lots of interesting art pieces and great way to spend the day. It's close to other museums in the Museum District so you definitely won't be bored. Free on Thursdays

World class museum. Went particularly for the exhibit on British royalty going back to Henry VII but they do have a very good collection otherwise. A virtue of a town with lots of oil money.

Was in H-town for the week on business and luckily my free day was Thursday which happened to be FREE admission day. All the exhibits/art were wonderful, especially the current one showcasing various artists from Venezuela. TIDBIT: the MFAH buildings are connected via the underground tunnel which allows you to go from the garage to the main museum building and then to the contemporary/theater building.

I was overly impressed with the collection of artwork at this museum. There vast collection included Monet, Picasso, and Van Gogh. The museum is two multi-floored buildings joined by an underground tunnel. Spent about four hours in one building.

General admission is free on Thursdays.

This is one of the best museums Houston, or the greater region, has to offer. It's so good we became members. The special exhibits are always really well done. It's a good day spent wandering this massive facility, taking in the wide range of art from all over the world.

Went here with family... A pleasant experience. There's a mix of people who stop by here from Hispanics, Whites, Blacks (American), Africans, Arabs, Asians, etc.

A broad culturally-diverse social setting of people here at the museum...

People here are usual decent, and mean well.

You can't bring food and drink to eat inside the museum though; but I don't think the staff mind if you bring a water bottle to drink water from.

It's a nice, wide spread out museum with many interesting art exhibits on display to check out.

Don't forget to bring your camera for photos and a notebook for writing down important notes!

A lot of local students who attend University of Houston go here to get their assigned art/history class homework done here as well.

I think many different journalist, photographer and artist types come here too...

There are museum tour guides present throughout the different areas of the museum to help guide people along and answer potential questions guests and visitors have.

Overall, on a "leisure day" when someone has time and wants to "explore history and art" I think coming over here to the Houston Museum of Fine Arts is a good trip when planned well.

You can get lost in this place and never notice you spent 6 or so hours here. It's astounding how much art is in this one place and how big it is. Would honestly go again even if there weren't any new exhibits.

Went to the Van Gogh exhibit. Enjoyed it. Only exception were the prints of Van Gogh's paintings instead of the actual paintings. Over half of the exhibit was prints. As much as they charge per person you'd think they could afford more of the actual paintings, which is what I thought I was paying for!

They have everything from classical to contemporary. I've been multiple times and have only explored the Beck building so far. Don't forget to check out the art in the tunnels between the buildings!

If you're looking for something to do in Houston, you should check out MFAH in the museum district and expand your knowledge of fine art. There are so many rooms of different styles of contemporary art from different artists as well as themes/countries. The main show room changes every few months so there's always new art to see. I happened to visit during the Spectacular Rubens exhibit which showcased elaborate tapestries featuring the principles of the Roman Catholic Church in the 17th century. I haven't had the chance to visit the Soto: The Penetrable interactive exhibit (floating sea of plastic strands) yet, but will keep an eye out if that piece of art comes back to Houston.

Make sure to visit on a Thursday since admission is free all day (10AM - 9PM)!

We had a bite in the cafe and then took in "Madame Hyde" as part of the French film series. The MFA is one of the consistently best places for intellectually alert people to visit and think.

They have paintings by van Gogh, Salvador Dali, Monet, Pollock, and many others. The museum also offers a great selection of ancient artifacts. In addition, there is an intriguing, must see display by artist James Turrrell. Overall, the museum was well worth the admissions cost.
