Went for members holiday party and saw Oscar de Laurenta gowns exhibit. Not my thing but they are impressive and beautiful. Museum did a decent job on the party but food was slow and insufficient. We made ornaments too and they did an excellent job on those, all materials provided leaving good room for our artistic expression.

Houston's best art museum. They have two different buildings, with a lot of different collections. I especially liked this summer's special exhibit, Bamboozle (or something like that). Everyone was a kid again walking up and down through this soaring 2-story high bamboo construction.
Get there early, especially for special exhibits. Preferably right when they open in order to avoid the long lines. That will give you time to see more of the rest of the museum afterwards. You won't be able to see everything in one day though.
I love museum and the Houston Museum of Fine Arts is probably one of the best in the country. They have several massive rooms full of art from all different eras going back thousands of years. They have stuff from ancient Egypt and Greece. Plenty of paintings for all different time periods. They even have Eastern art and sections dedicated to Japan. Whether you live in Houston or are just visiting, everyone should go here at least once. Multiple even, since once is not nearly enough to see everything. And it's free on Thursdays!
I love art and this museum has all kinds of it. So much to see and awesome that it's free on Thursdays. Fun time to see all they have to offer and staff is really friendly and informative.
Great museum with lots of items. It has two main wings. The fine art painting collection is reasonably well rounded. It has a number of Picassos and a Dali. It's a general collection. Worth seeing. Enjoy.
Took my daughter as a gift for her 20th B-Day at her request to see the Vincent van Gogh - His Life in Art Exhibition and it was awesome. Although we almost missed the companion display "Van Gogh up close" being that it was in another room away from the exhibit, Im glad that we looked into the room ourselves because there was no-one who directed you to that room once leaving the gift shop. The pop-up shop had really nice items of Vincent van Gogh and reasonably priced.
No better place to be on a cold & rainy day with free admission on certain days of the week. Among the best attractions the city has to offer, add it to your bucket list if you've never been.
This is the best-curated museum I have been to. The descriptions introducing the exhibits and accompanying each piece really brought them to life. I was there by myself and kept wishing I had someone with me so I could say, "Look a this! Did you see this?!" I went after a conference. They are open late on Thursdays (and admission is free!). Two hours was not enough time. I hope I return to Houston soon so I can spend more time there. Easy to reach on the Metro.
Don't bring small children. Not because your child is mis-behaved or may touch anything but because the "art police" watch your children like a hawk. They look at you like you carry the black plague. And the second your child gets out of his stroller they act like it is the only action they have seen in 5 years and they bring in the calvary of 60 year old art police officers.
Great display! Great exhibit on royal family history. Need to have more time to enjoy all exhibits, otherwise it would be pricey to only spend few hours in there. Gift shop items were all overly priced.
Went during the Van Gogh exhibit because my school had a reservation, that was made three months prior. Everyone was told that we could see the permanent exhibit but we had to pay to see the Van Gogh exhibit because they couldn't find our reservation. Also got stuck in an elevator for like five minutes.
I love taking my students here. They have a broad range of styles and cultures that inspire and interest just about anyone. Fascinating collection on its own, but the Van Gogh exhibition was fantastic!
The Van Gogh exhibit was great. Even more pieces than I thought there would be. Afterwards we went for a coffee at the Glassel coffee bar. Really, really enjoyed it.
One of my favorite parts of Houston. Easy parking, amazing collection, located in a great part of town, cute cafe with good treats, and consistently impressive.
Great museum. I'm very familiar with the permanent collection. I've been going to museum for over 30 years now. Since they opened a new building I think that the fine arts museum scene is still growing in Houston. I compare this museum to the one in fort Worth. I'm excited by the prospect of of another museum opening that's plan for 2020.anyone living in Houston and or having guests come to Houston, fine arts museum is always a favorite stop. Recommend this museum.
Amazing food in the cafe, good to spend a whole day there, only complaint is the works of motion kind of exibit was just one interactive piece that was fun but for ten dollars not worth it.
I've always loved this museum. Lovely displays of all sorts of breathtaking art. Perfect for a romantic night out even a relaxing night out alone. As clean and elegant as can possibly be.
Honestly loved it. It's about 3-5 floors. Thursdays are free. Very peaceful and they follow covid procedures very well. Parking is free the first 30 min. Afterwards is $10. You get your temperature taken when you enter. They give you a map. Worth the visit :)
Exceptional museum. Lots of rotating exhibits so there is something new during each visit. Free admission on Thursdays. Check out the art and artifacts of Islamic Lands, Korea, Japan and India.
It was great going for the first time. The museum should have a rule about younger children walking around by themselves because one of the children almost touched one of the artworks.
Wow went and used our Bank of America card( to get in free) such rude staff.. very disappointed! 1lady at the front when u first come in from the parking garage didnt even talk to us jz nodded her head for us to go to the other lady( guess she didn't want to deal w us) how RUDEis that..( Then she kept staring-so I stared right back) I asked her is there a problem uumm but no response..but she wasn't the only one I mean ur walking through looking at things, jz looking and their are ppl standing all around to make sure u dont touch but u make eye contact w them and smile and they jz turn their head- dont smile or say anything.. RUDE.. Then this other lady on the other side was rude when I guess u needed a ticket to go through..(wasn't blocked or anything) Man ppl here really need to learn some ppl manners.. WILL NOT BE COMING BACK!! Used to come like once every few months but this really killed it for us! NO NEED FOR PPL TO BE THAT WAY. Glad we didnt stay no longer than 30 min would have been pretty mad paying for parking to having ppl act like that toward u. These ppl really need to learn some ppl skills at least smile at ppl!
