The Museum of Fine Arts is a top notch classical art museum, with a strong collection covering quite well all eras and areas. Together with the nearby Museum of Natural Science, this is the centerpiece of the Houston Museum district. The building itself is also a piece of architectural art and the cafe is quite well renowned for its excellent food. In recent years, their van Gogh special exhibition was very well received, but the permanent collection is also highly worthwhile.
Sunday's are very crowded. Decided to return during the week.
Always done interesting exhibits going on, always a great place to pass an hour or two
Hate the cafe. Always hit and miss in terms of food..usually miss. The gift shop is great if you have 300 or 400 hundred to spend. Overpriced! No more nice receptions after lectures and the lectures have gone down hill. The last 4 just had the speakers reading from a paper and showing slides. Where is the passion? Just a monotonous voice droning on and on. I will not renew my membership instead just go for free on Thursdays.
World class museum with terrific temporary exhibitions, not to be missed by any visitor and surely by all Houstonians at least one or twice a year. Park in the new parking to enjoy the new Anish Kapoor sculpture and the Noguchi sculpture garden
This is a very cool art museum. We had one of our holiday parties here, and we had a blast looking at all of the different art.
The museum district in Houston is largely funded by all the gas and oil money that's pouring in from the gulf of Mexico and from various points around Texas and that large source of private funding is blatantly obvious when it comes to the Museum of Fine Art. The museum always has amazing artworks from established painters like Rothko and Rubens but also experimental works from local Houston artists. Everything about this museum is impeccably well designed and artsy, and it's a great art museum and probably one of the best in the state, if not the country.
What an incredible Museum! We went for the Vincent Van Gogh showing. After this we stayed and visited the rest of the museum. I would recommend visiting often!
Elegant museum with alternating displays and kind staff.
Visited the Art of the Madonna's, Mother Mary. Wonderful Awesome articulated paintings. Everything in every room explains something about the article. I would go as much as I can to view as much as I can since there are different showings and end within given months. Appreciate all of it. Need to go back to view the India exhibit. So much to learn.
Nice surprise, Thursdays are free! This place is great for a day trip
The Van Gogh exhibit was amazing. The museum its self is fantastic although confusing. I feel like i missed some thing with the way its laid out.
We love going for Thursday happy hour before wandering around looking at the art. Not the biggest art museum I ve been to, but it s a great part of the Houston culture scene.
Fantastic exhibits, and an amazing day full of fun, I would recommend this to anyone with a day the would like to just take it slow and enjoy themselves.
Amazing place, 6 floors and a cafe inside. So many exhibits to see so little time. I'd recommend 3 hours at least or more to actually get the information from.the art peices. Beautiful place!
I had a lovely evening at MFA. Some of the staff were super friendly.
comprehensive, huge museum to spend a whole day. more than a dozen themes from comteporary arts, impressionism, egyptian to asian art, as well as photography and special exhobitions like van gogh and degas. thursday is always free for general admission. the restaurants and food trucks onsite are good for a break. they also a theater for movies, a kid zone for reading and youth program, and a library just to soak in.
Big selection of various art pieces from different time periods.
I love the free Thursdays, but am discouraged it now costs to park.
Went to see the Vincent Van Gogh exhibit before it left. The Van Gogh Up Close exhibit dor kids was great! My only complaint is that the rest of the museum wasn't open.
My second home i love its ever changing collection and fun interactive environment with many exhibits.
Beautiful collection if art from all vintages and kinds. World class events, traveling exhibits.
MFAH shows are well put together. We lunched in their cafe, which is another winner!
I am so thankful for all of the amazing exhibitions the museum brings to Houston!
Such a diversity styles of art from different eras.
Excellent experience, the Van Gogh exhibition is amazing!
The Houston Museum of Natural Science is a great place with plenty of exhibits to entertain all who attend with a unique education of Natural Science. The McDonald's isn't there anymore (thank goodness!!!). There are three new dining experiences by Sodexo that are refreshing, diverse and health concious. There is the "Food Lab Food Truck" parked at the main entrance that offers such items as shredded chicken, pork, fish and cauliflower tacos. You can add a freshly roasted ear of Mexican corn, chips with homemade salsa, enjoy a Jarritos soda, Topo Chico Lime, 1 litre bottle of Coke from Mexico or a cool refreshing ice cream novelty. Inside the museum you have "Elements Grill" offering made to order burgers, chicken, hot dogs, children's meals along with french fries and huge hot soft pretzels. They have catering services available for any size group visiting. The third component is "The Periodic Table" which gives this trio of dining experiences a deli style selection of healthy alternatives including a nice selection of vegetarian options. There is an array of healthy snacks and vegan choices for a well rounded all around menu. Oh yes!!! Let's not forget that there are Baristas located in The Periodic Table who will create your favorite coffee or tea beverages and also have decaffeinated espresso for those who make that their preferred choice of libation.
Have a great day and make sure you head to the Houston Museum of Natural Science as soon as you can.
I love all of the art pieces throughout the ages with wonderful descriptions of each piece of art.
I've seen all the major museums and I was quite pleasently surprised by the quality of the collection.
Another GREAT exhibit (s)! I LOVE coming to MFAH. Also, the staff is incredibly friendly and they've added more parking across the street (underground). I will be back for more!
Great museum. Really impressed. Staff was helpful and very polite. Ron
This museum is a national treasure. I had the privilege of visiting the Van Gogh exhibit and hope that it returns in the future.
Lovely museum and helpful staff. It was a nicely put together exhibition. It is a treat to come here.
Beautiful and extensive art exhibit. If you're in Houston , you have to go.
Went to see the excellent Van Gogh show while visiting Houston. Friday afternoon was a good time to go.
My favorite museum in Houston. They always have amazing exhibits and a huge variety of painting from the various time periods.
The Van Gogh exhibit was absolutely exquisite. The Van Gogh Up Close is perfect for children of all ages.
Visited three current exhibitions, loved it! Purchased membership, totally worth it.
really a pretty cold and unfriendly place..overpriced too, unless you are a member, but I don't plan to go again, so I will not become a member..
All the staff were really friendly and there was a good environment inside with a little hard to figure organized rooms. Their special part of van gogh "Van gogh up close" was a really fun experience. They even put up with me childish ways of dancing in front of the cameras and ruining Van Goghs interactive painting with face tats lol
My wife and I finally decided to get a membership to MFAH. The museum is quite large and its collection extensive as it is but with the new expansion across Bissonnet it really was a great deal. You could spend an entire weekend in the museum and not see everything. Highly recommended.
My husband and I bought the year membership, which I highly recommend. I've already been to the museum 4 times this year for the price of two visits, and I plan on going several more times this year. Last month I saw the Van Gogh exhibit which was excellently done, and this month we saw the fashion photography exhibit which was beautiful. It's such a quiet, relaxing, and cool place to spend a hot summer day.
Great impressionist and American art, something for everybody in the permanent collection and the temporary exhibitions never fail to please. Membership is affordable and pays for itself with a couple of visits.
Went to the Vincent Van Gogh display, it was life changing! I've always wanted to see his work in real life, it was very well organized and informative. The interactive area was bright, fun for all ages, and really inventive! I didn't get to check out the rest of the Museum.
What a wonderful place. Neat collection! Staff super friendly and cafeteria was a plus!
The fine art food truck , with free admission afternoon, the surprising collections, and the film at 7pm
, smooth the rough feelings from one local accident by sudden cut-in driving habits, will visit again
Visited during the final week of the Oscar de la Renta exhibit. Fantastic space, but parking is a challenge.
Great place for everyone. Enjoyed the exibits and building. Surrounding area, especially the sculptures in the park across the street are awesome!
This museum has an AMAZING selection of art. It is super huge so you can never really run out of art to look at. I went here when they had a pretty cool light exhibition. This was actually my first date spot with my current boyfriend so it has great memories attached to it. Its a super interesting place for people who are into art
I love this place! The museum itself is beautiful and there are several nice permanent collections. I've been to multiple temporary exhibitions here and I have never left disappointed.
Your to close ma, you can't drink water in here ma unless it for the baby
Wonderful tour...."Who is like the Sovereign Lord!"
Love it! Free Thursdays. I saw the Monet to Picasso collection. Awesome!
The Museum of Fine Arts encompasses such a large amount of paintings in a gorgeous museum setting. From artists such as Monet to James Turrell, this museum is a wonderful way for Houstonians to explore time, history, and art through their collection. In addition to this, for all you cinephiles, it's one of the very few places that show art house films in Houston as well. On Thursdays their permanent exhibits are free, and every once in a while they have a deal where you can purchase food from one of the food trucks in front and receive a free admission ticket.
Their cafe is amazing. It's always the first thing I visit and get their cappuccino. Kind of disappointed when I went the last time because the American Art gallery was temporarily closed due to the special exhibit.
This is a great place to admire beautiful art while beating the Texas heat.
Me and my sister went and paid to see the William's choreography exhibit and it wasnt as great as we had seen.
Great museum with fascinating rotating exhibits. So many different types of art to look at and admire. It s a bit pricey but supporting the arts isn t a problem to me. I loved my visit and will definitely take friends when they come in from out of town. This museum is a gem.
This place just keeps getting bigger and better every time I go. Thursday is free and that helps. Can't say enough about the amazing collection of art, if you have the time you really need to check this place out. I don't know a lot about art but I know what I like and their is plenty of that.
Different exposures I have to see one of Vincent Van Gogh's very good. The largest and most complete hard of its place of origin. In addition to having other things that are very worthwhile
Excellent museum complex. Always a good exhibition on. Friendly staff. Great place to lose a few hours.
