We joined the Houston Museum of Fine Arts this year. It's our first time to join. We have visited it in the past, but this year we decided we want to go more frequently. It has been worth it because there is plenty to look at Everytime you go. I particularly enjoy the Remingtons that were originally acquired by the Hogg family.

Lots of quality pieces, big names (Picasso, Pollack, etc) and variety. Everything from ancient art to contemporary. Their special exhibits have also been pretty great. Would definitely recommend.

Felt like museum had deceptive advertising as Frida Khaki was heavily advertised even with large picture on outside of building. Once inside there were only 3 of Frida's paintings. I was disappointed & wished I had known ahead of time.

Still my favorite of all the art museums in Houston. So much to do. So much to see. Great restaurant, great library, great gift shop, and they constantly have new temporary exhibits that are well worth it. Can I live here?

My husband and I visited the Museum of Fine Art Houston to see the Van Gogh Exhibit on Saturday of Spring Break which was the opening of the Exhibit. Upon arriving, we found parking in the parking garage. We are members but did not purchase the special access pass for the Van Gogh Exhibit. After checking the line several times, we decided to view the permanent collections and other exhibits then return at a later date to see Van Gogh.

We ate lunch at the cafe and enjoyed our meal. We were impressed by the quality of their offerings. The cafe was crowded so it was difficult to find seating. We joined another couple who after seeing our difficultly invited us to join them. The staff did their best to clear tables and bring out orders as quickly as possible.

We happened upon one of their exhibits featuring sculptures made from wood embellished with all types of small parts. The artist used nails, screws, small electronic parts and things I had no idea what they were. I thought my dad ought to give this a try because he's got quick the collection of quirky items.

Solid permanent exhibitions, with a very strong selection of gold (African, Indonesian, Pre-Columbian). East Asian Art collection seems a bit weak. A few exhibits could be presented better (e.g. adding some introductory information to different periods/schools of European paintings; putting numbers next to objects in African gold exhibit to help match individual item to text more quickly).

I love the mfa and recently went to see a film there and it was cool but the seats are way too narrow. I went with a friend who is very petite and even she was surprised how narrow the seats are. They're so narrow that I could see people squirming all throughout the entire film viewing. The seats are similar to seats on a plane in coach. They need to fix this.

We are members of the museum and it is well worth it. The quality and diversity of the exhibits will impress. Give it a go on a Thursday when there is free admission.

There are also great limited time exhibits that pass through. Here are a few pictures from the Tudor to Windsor exhibit.

What a fantastic venue to see wonderful things! Not only art but massive artifacts from ancient history to be seen! Even if you don't think you like art very much I would recommend you come walk through this place, especially with someone. Seeing artwork face to face is certain to adjust your perception and appreciation of it at least some.

Nice museum. We are members but will not be renewing. There is a 'we know how to parent your child policy' and guards frequently tell you to do this or that. One policy is that a child cannot be carried on the back. For us, with a heavy toddler, this is the safest way, one in which he is calm, and one on which I won't be injured. But no. They have to be carried at the front. So enjoy the art but it's a stuffy place that doesn't welcome or understand children.

On top of that, everywhere you go a Security guard follows you closely as if you're about to damage everything. It's like a police state. Very uncomfortable. I've been in galleries around the world and this is absolutely the worst. I've never been so on edge in a gallery. We won't be back.

Went for the Van Gogh exhort. It was a nice experience. I liked the room they had where kids could explore the Van Gogh art with their hands. The museum is big so give yourself at least 2 hours of not more to look around. Don t forget they have a down stairs exhibit and from there you can go across the street. They do have a kids program/play time but we were not able to attend.

Took my daughter as a gift for her 20th B-Day at her request to see the Vincent van Gogh - His Life in Art Exhibition and it was awesome. Although we almost missed the companion display "Van Gogh up close" being that it was in another room away from the exhibit, Im glad that we looked into the room ourselves because there was no-one who directed you to that room once leaving the gift shop. The pop-up shop had really nice items of Vincent van Gogh and reasonably priced.

The best place ever visited. What a collection of paintings from each culture, period, movements, countries etc... Just loved this place. Seeing paintings like those were so much fun. Literally took me to the historical periods.

Thoroughly enjoyed a few hours spent at the Fine Arts museum. I did not expect such a wide and varying selection of material to browse. Definitely a place to visit again! If you are in Houston and have a few hours to just relax and walk around, this is the place to do it.

Great exhibits! Honestly, every time i decide to go is like they got a new exhibit in. This is my favorite part of the museum.I pay for it but coming in on Thursday with my siblings is fun. I ve been here like 100 times, yet it still teaches me something new every time i go. I like their parking garage its pretty cool. I enjoy the walking aspect as well as the food they offer. Staff is always cordial and helpful.

I took time off from work to see a particular exhibit here, I was blown away by the diversity of art they have here. Definitely a great place to go to get some inspiration or to clear your head.

My favorite museum in Houston: The Menil was closed due to renovation so we ended up here.
First of all, go on a Thursday as it is gratis that day....park in the covered parking to keep your car from feeling like a freaking oven when you return to it after your visit.
They have some very cool collections of art here....totally enjoyed my visit...we were there during the Big Bamboo exhibition which looked very cool but was ridiculously over-priced, needless to say, we skipped it....other than that this place rocked!

I had the privilege of attending a lecture on the history of art education and enjoyed a first look of the new Glassel School of Art. The efforts to incorporate nature and sustainability are admirable. Despite my Windy City roots, I favor Cloud Column and the meaning behind it! Well done, MFAH!
