A wonderful collection of European art awaits. Walk through time! The collection is fairly comprehensive of the periods even if it doesn't represent very many of the more famous artists. Well worth your time to take the tour.

An amazing and educational experience! We paid about $42 for a family of 6 (2 adults, 15yr, 11yr, 9yr, 5yr). Be ready to walk!
Admission covers 2 buildings with 2-3 stories of art!! An underground tunnel connects the 2. Rich historical items and artifacts, from statues, to paintings, to clothing to utensils and much more. You definitely need several hours to half a day to throughly see and take it all in.
If you love art and history, you will not be dissapointed. Our smallest kids would lose interest but we would talk about some of the history behind the art or how we read about those times and they would quickly regain interest.
Impressive museum, extensive international collection, especially good for paintings, they had excellent British monarchy exhibition with paintings from 1500s to present day
The MFA is always bringing in great exhibitions. I share a duo membership with a friend and it s an excellent value! I love being able to drop in whenever I want. The lectures and films are also top notch.
Broad variety of art, from classics to very modern, also with wonderful lighting exhibits and stunning architecture, easily could spend an afternoon to a day there
What a remarkable museum! Me and a couple of friends came here on a Tuesday and it was the greatest art museum I've been to in Texas so far. I live in Dallas and unfortunately, our museum falls short. The variety of art is outstanding and I LOVE that the hours for this facility are so broad.
Great artwork to see! Every room was filled with treasures beautifully displayed. It was free on Thursday and I love my freebies! I loved the Korean room
Love, love, love MFAH! They have fantastic exhibits that come through and I also have attended some of their special events. These pictures were from the Van Gogh exhibit and interactive section. I loved it so much I went twice!
We visited many times and our last visit was for the exhibit from India. It was fantastic! This is one of my favorite museums to visit as a local, but I suspect it would great as well for tourists despite not having a clear focus on Texas or Houston itself. Inside the museum you will find amazing art exhibits from many eras and on many themes. Definitely check out the neon underground passage tunnel that connects the 2 buildings of the museum, it's nothing more than a neon tunnel but its beautifully made and very fun to walk through. Highly recommend!
Side note: every temporary exhibit I've seen at this museum was on the shorter side IF you rush through it. I'd recommend grabbing the free audio guides and listening at the audio stations. Also take your time with reading the descriptions of your favorite pieces because most of the exhibits are about 4 halls long, and are made for you to take your time and concentrate on the art rather than rush.
Photos are from the Oscar de la Renta exhibit, and the peacock in the desert: royal art of India exhibit.
This is an excellent art museum to visit! There are so many boring museums with large spaces and very little art. This one is different! There are 3 buildings of art. What I liked about it is how diverse and rich their collections are! French art, islamic art, surrealism, academic painting, 19th century, and contemporary art. Really a lot to see and get inspired by!
For art lovers, this is a place you must see if you are in houston. But for kids and family, its not worth it. Its not very interactive and theres not much action in it.
- Admission is a reasonable $19 per adult, available on-site. I m forgetting children s admission prices and others.
- In order to safely remain open in light of COVID-19, all visitors will have their temperature checked prior to entering the museum. Face masks and social distancing are required. The temperature screening process is very straightforward and quick, and I found myself within the gallery areas in no time.
Large collections of both historic, and contemporary art! Several Picasso works, and Monet's Water Lilies were a few of my favorites! Admission is free Thursdays only.
I'm a member so I go here all the time, whether it's a new exhibit, a film or just to have a place to walk around inside fir a bit. Closed Monday's and insanely crowded on free admission Thursday. There's multiple buildings so you can easily spend a full day walking around the museum. They also have a theater downstairs that shows new and old films. You can check the website for screenings.
In all it was fun but I was extremely disappointed by the African art display including the pieces there, and how difficult it was to find it was basically hidden
World class art museum. Excellent exhibitions as well as a vast permanent collection spread across two buildings. There is an art school and sculpture garden as well. Highly recommend!
I LOVE the museum! It's a favorite go for a date place for my husband and I. Both the permanent and special exhibits are first rate. We rejoined the museum in January and have made the commitment to go monthly. We figure by the end of the year we will have seen most of the perm exhibits.
BEST art museum in Houston with exhibits, exhibitions, displays for all ages. Leave extra time for street parking (limited). ADA compliant. You can check it out free on Thursdays but well worth admission price. Quality cafe. Many events held at Art Musuem venue, so check it's open before you visit. Docents are knowledgeable and eager to share their love of art. Visiting and new exhibits keep it fresh.
Very interesting museum with lots to see. The MFA Cafe is pretty good. The MFA Shop is more like a book store, there aren't very many souvenirs to take home. I would still come back here!
Superb. I took two friends from Washington State there last week. They spent three hours there and would have stayed longer, but it was 9 PM and closing time. They loved it. So many wonderful exhibits. Thursdays are free, thanks to Shell Oil. Parking is limited by construction, but their parking garage is reasonably priced for the area and the main buildings are accessible by tunnel.
Houston is undervalued and underestimated as an art scene. We have collections that top or rival any other city in the world. Many exhibits come through that people miss and can learn much from. We learn from old pieces, relics, and paintings that school doesn't teach us. For example, there are original media prints from the time of the American Civil War that if looked carefully, shows the devil several times advising George Washington among other political figures. This is just one example. Religious works of art reveal interactions between men and other men/women including Jesus. The Fine Arts never disappoints...especially in Houston.
