Excellent collection of fine art. Staff are sometimes unprofessional and downright rude, as evidenced by the numerous comments here stating same.

Everything is interesting. You can see much culture here. Also there are pieces full of history
Spend a good weekend with family here. Don't miss the joy.
Worked an event at the museum so I didn't see many exhibits.
What I did see I liked and the food served was pretty good.
Would definitely go back in my free time.
A very good place to view fine art. Free Thursdays.
This museum houses an incredible collection of art, spanning various time periods and cultures. One could easily spend a whole day at this museum because of how vast and varied the exhibitions are. On Thursdays, the museum offers free admission to the public to view their general exhibition from 10am to 9pm, generously granting access to most of the museum's collections (with the exception of ticketed special exhibitions). The museum is also one of the few places in Houston that showcases independent films and art house cinema. This museum is my go-to destination when I find myself wanting to spend a few hours surrounded by beauty.
A perfect place for art lovers to visit the Museum for fine arts Houston in Bissonnet st,near Hermann park or Museum district metro station. Good artifacts related to painting and sculpture can be seen here. Intricate sculpted vases, chests and Indian art piece Natraj many mural paintings frames etc enthuse art lovers. Pl chek varying working hours. Restaurant with good food and not surge pricing. Parking at times difficult. Arts and music lovers do chalk a revisit, in Houston.
This is without question the best fine arts museum in Texas and in the Southern US.
I love the exquisite nature of this museum and how put together it is. New artwork is featured frequently and there is something there for everyone to appreciate.
Went for Van Gogh. Not much collections but it's a great museum.
There is a special exhibition of [Van Gogh], which introduces Van Gogh's life and his paintings in great detail. It is worth visiting!
The Van Gogh exhibit was amazing. I really enjoyed learning more details about his life. The display of his favorite artist tools was one of many favorites.
Con: Parking can be tricky if youre not familiar with the area.
Pro: Everything was so beautiful, and so much history, from the Greco-Roman period, Egyptian artifacts etc
The Biblically themed paintings was what I loved the best...makes some of the stories come alive. (Not that they aren't true in the 1st place ). Go. You'll love it.
PRO TIP: Wear comfy shoes as you'll be walking quite a bit on hard floors.
The VanGough exhibit is worth a look, of course. While there, spend time in the other exhibits. The museum has a wonderful collection of Asian and African art.
Really nice. We went to the impressionist and pointlilist exhibit with some picasso and monet works. The rest of the museum outside of the special exhibit was also amazing and well worth the money
Beautiful museum with lots to look at and many temporary exhibits.
I can't recall the number of times I have visited this museum. But I always come here with my mom or sister. I have brought many of my friends here too. They always have something interesting to see.
Much larger than I expected it to be. Pretty good ticket deals if you look on the museum website. Wide variety of mediums and time periods. Overall a great experience! Woopwoop!
big museum. alot to see, alot of people . awesome art and fun place over all.
I loved this place! Sometimes the pieces make you want to roll your eyes but for the most part there is some really awesome, imaginative art here.
Like visiting Europe in Houston! Incredible art and a wonderful setting.
Everything is easy to find, the staff could be better. Most of the staff were very kind and helpful while some older staff continued to yell at children who were doing nothing wrong.
Wonderful art museum. Loved seeing a Van Gough and Monet! Also many ancient artifacts from Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Go on Thursday and it's free!
A fun and family friendly place to go in downtown Houston! FREE on Thursdays, the museum is in two parts connected by an underground light tunnel that makes kids and adults go Ooooooooh. Don't touch anything though--every item in the museum is precious! The gift shop has handmade goods, books, weird gadgets and trinkets.
The Museum of Fine Arts encompasses such a large amount of paintings in a gorgeous museum setting. From artists such as Monet to James Turrell, this museum is a wonderful way for Houstonians to explore time, history, and art through their collection. In addition to this, for all you cinephiles, it's one of the very few places that show art house films in Houston as well. On Thursdays their permanent exhibits are free, and every once in a while they have a deal where you can purchase food from one of the food trucks in front and receive a free admission ticket.
I would give it 4 or 5 stars but I have dyslexia so I would have liked an option to have every thing in audio, but because I didn't have that option, so I felt like I was left out of everything, and I couldn't understand what the art was trying to say.
Loved our experience. Helpful staff and conveniently located near the light rail
The speaker was fantastic. Topic was educational. I hope that we, Houston, is ready to take action.
Always changing but it is a LOT of walking. Be prepared to spend a whole day if you're an art lover.
Still my favorite museum in Houston. I gave in and got a dual membership in January and LOVE it so far! Great exhibits. Just saw Mueck, which was awesome. They currently have the Cuban exhibition on the second floor. Membership gives you lots of benefits, 100% worth it!
Wife selection of art and fantastic special exhibition. Not the Met, though.
One of the gems in Houston's cultural crown, the museum itself is as much a work of art as what it contains.
It goes without saying, wear comfortable shoes, because you'll walk through a maze of delightful works of art.
absolutely loved it! loved the underground tunnel more than anything. a great visiting place for art lovers
Love the Van Gogh Exhibition. For 25 bucks it's well worth it!!
Wait lines to get in suck.
Web site ticket ordering- ditto.
I went there during free admission Thursday and the museum wasn't too packed. The atmosphere is very relaxing. I suggest taking the metrorail since it drops off at the museum. Overall I had a good time and would visit here again.
Quality venue for viewing films at an affordable price. Loved the Manhattan short film festival.
I was really impressed with the amount and variety of artwork that was on display, and everything was beautifully and tastefully displayed.
It was truly an enlightening experience!!..I went to the Museum because it was for an assignment in my Art History of Western Civilization class...
Beautiful place to appreciate art! If you're a lover of any type of art or cultural objects this is the place for you! Expand your artistic side of your brain and learn something new!!!
I love this museum. Very nice exhibits and artifacts.
I like the movie screenings they have open to the general public and more for their members .
And there s an happy hour outside the museum for adults . Great way to socialize.
Wonderful museum with more than you could ever enjoy in a single day.
Beautifully displayed collections of art in wide open galleries. Seating available in some galleries as well as portable easy open canvas chairs. Portable audio players available for some exhibits. Easy acess for wheelchairs and baby strollers. Pop -out baby changing tables in bathrooms. Gift shop and cafe onsite offer nice options. New underground parking garage is at 5101 Montrose Blvd and additional parking at 1144 Binz Street. You will pay except on Thursdays 9 AM to 5 PM when museum and parking is free. Over all the museum is worth the price of admission , senior citizens and student discounts available.
Great museum. However I wish there was more things to see
Vangoh expo is very nicely curated, many of them are replicas but it has some original ones
Impressive & extensive pre-columbian exhibits. Great impressionism pieces.
Very artsy. Lots of really good paintings. Way better than anything I could do.
Layout is a little confusing but the displays are very nice.
comprehensive, huge museum to spend a whole day. more than a dozen themes from comteporary arts, impressionism, egyptian to asian art, as well as photography and special exhobitions like van gogh and degas. thursday is always free for general admission. the restaurants and food trucks onsite are good for a break. they also a theater for movies, a kid zone for reading and youth program, and a library just to soak in.
Houston is lucky to have such a great museum. Good place for a date
Wonderful place to go. Parking was a bit difficult due to construction going on around the museum.
I used to live 2 blocks from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY so my standards are pretty darn high or HMFA might well get 5 stars.
The permanent collection was good but somewhat limited.
The Rockwell exhibit was good and had good, interesting and highly informative signage but barely fair and very limited audio.
The gift shop and cafe were both very good.
The $6.00 freshly made not frozen pizza included a drink and made a great snack for two.
I would recommend that the museum tell callers inquiring about free Thursday admission that the Rockwell exhibit is not included.
The additional $23 would have been a rude shock if I hadn't thought to ask ahead.
The employees I interacted with were, with one exception, extremely nice and helpful.
My only complaint is that when offered the free audio device at the Rockwell entrance and having inquired if it was hearing aid compatible I should have been told headphones were also free and available instead of having to learn from a museum patron. When I went back to get the headphones and mentioned this to the young lady who I'd asked about hearing aid compatibility her reaction was to simply hand me the headphones with a complete lack of affect.
BTW, the museum buildings themselves are wonderful.
My single favorite thing was the picture of someone's pet bird in the children's art exhibit in the hallway leading from the main entrance to the cafe that gave the bird's name and said it eats Pringles. Also the child"s collage of the two people watching the sunset with hearts around touched the emotional parts of me I like best. What can I say, I'm a softie at heart. Think I'll go view the viral video "Dinosaurs in Love" one more time. The beauty/clarity/simplicity of childrens' emotions is the essence of art to me. All the rest is technique and execution learned later and added like seasoning to food.
It's a great day to see Master's works; get in a Van n Gogh!!
I went there on Thursday for free. We had a very big and meaningful time.
Very relaxing. So much to look at. By far my favorite museum in the museum district. There are 2 separate buildings that connect through a tunnel underground, no need to cross the street to see the other sections. Multiple floors filled with art. Very clean and organized. Will be returning
It brings together the various sources of anthropological, religious and social construction.
Beautiful Museum, need a couple of trips to see everything
I have loved the MFAH for as long as I can remember, we went there on school trips when I was a child, I went with my family, and my wife and I still go. They have a wonderful collection of beautiful works from around the world. Also they have had, and continue to have some really fantastic traveling exhibits. The exhibit showcasing the Vikings that occured a few years back is still a favorite of mine.
One of my favorites place to go with friends and family. Always very good exhibitions
Really well done museum that will take a few hours to explore. Don't miss the outdoor exhibits as well.
The museum is very nicely laid out and has a beautiful permanent collection. The only problem I had was the Vincent Van Gogh exhibit was so popular that the line was ridiculously long, over and hour long wait.
The stunning new Kinder Building will not only provide for the permanent exhibition of the MFAH s amazing collection of Latin American and contemporary artwork, but will also give Houston a dynamic new public space. The Kinder is both an art as well as architectural pilgrimage destination.
Great place to take a date. Lots of greAt restaurans nearby
