Oh I love coming here. My mother would bring me here as a child and we would sit in front of this one painting. Now as an adult I do the same. Hopefully one day my sons will as well. I also love the cafe. The tomato soup is always a favorite.

The Art Museum of Houston is beautiful. However the staff was bias. They told us (Hispanics) backpacks were not allowed when we saw a bunch of other people passed by with theirs own and they were not told anything!

I am not an art major people. I have been to a lot of museums in LA and Washington DC. This one is not on the same level. It has far weaker collections than those, but on the other side this makes them display something you don't normally see elsewhere, such as Norman Rockwell's collection. Overall I think it deserves 3 stars also caused by expensive tickets, but since it has some weird and interesting stuff, I gave them 4 stars. Hope this helps.

MFAH has a fantastic collection. I go frequently and feel like I have never seen it all. If you are only in Houston to visit, make aure you leave time to see it all (or at least a good chunk). When my friend visited, we spent two days exploring. They also has a top notch museum gift shop.

Beautiful, large, well-organized and planned fine arts museum. Educational, varied. We visited a special Van Gogh exhibit created created in collaboration with international museums. We learned about his life and experienced that as well as his artistic development through this beautiful exhibit. A wonderful afternoon!

Great collection. Horrible staff. More specifically the security staff. They're at every turn and being super anal about everything. My kids weren't doing anything wrong and the guard was still in my face about them not touching the paintings. They were sitting on the bench and nowhere near them. My sisters' kids were going down the escalator (they're 7 and 8) and the security guard lady rushed over there as if they were going to jump off the railings or something. It was absolutely ridiculous. I've been to many museums and I've never experienced this level of anal retentiveness from security staff. It ruins the whole experience.

An amazing place go to visit with family. It s mostly directed to adults. You can find fine arts from countries such as India, China, Japan, Nigeria, Indonesia, Cameroon, Korea, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, ECT. I had a great time with some of my family members. PS: Thursdays are Free Admission.

I used to live 2 blocks from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY so my standards are pretty darn high or HMFA might well get 5 stars.
The permanent collection was good but somewhat limited.
The Rockwell exhibit was good and had good, interesting and highly informative signage but barely fair and very limited audio.
The gift shop and cafe were both very good.
The $6.00 freshly made not frozen pizza included a drink and made a great snack for two.
I would recommend that the museum tell callers inquiring about free Thursday admission that the Rockwell exhibit is not included.
The additional $23 would have been a rude shock if I hadn't thought to ask ahead.
The employees I interacted with were, with one exception, extremely nice and helpful.
My only complaint is that when offered the free audio device at the Rockwell entrance and having inquired if it was hearing aid compatible I should have been told headphones were also free and available instead of having to learn from a museum patron. When I went back to get the headphones and mentioned this to the young lady who I'd asked about hearing aid compatibility her reaction was to simply hand me the headphones with a complete lack of affect.
BTW, the museum buildings themselves are wonderful.
My single favorite thing was the picture of someone's pet bird in the children's art exhibit in the hallway leading from the main entrance to the cafe that gave the bird's name and said it eats Pringles. Also the child"s collage of the two people watching the sunset with hearts around touched the emotional parts of me I like best. What can I say, I'm a softie at heart. Think I'll go view the viral video "Dinosaurs in Love" one more time. The beauty/clarity/simplicity of childrens' emotions is the essence of art to me. All the rest is technique and execution learned later and added like seasoning to food.

A perfect place to learn different cultures. I love going to this museum once a while, especially when they have exhibition from out of the country.

Last time when I was there it was for an exhibition from Taiwan called the emperor's treasure. Now I have been to Taiwan before and visited the forbidden city treasure, but because the museum was very small and couldn't exhibit their whole collection, there's lot other amazing item I wasn't lucky enough to enjoy.

But this time they brought whole lots other treasure that's not displayed while I was there. And how lucky I am to visit our museum while they displayed here. They are absolutely amazing.

Highly recommend go to museum once a while to visit. It will bring you whole lot of great surprises.

I went there during free admission Thursday and the museum wasn't too packed. The atmosphere is very relaxing. I suggest taking the metrorail since it drops off at the museum. Overall I had a good time and would visit here again.

What an interesting place where I could appreciate the history of the cultures of the world through objects and photos. I want to go back to visit the places that I could not see. The people who care and work here inform us and are willing to help anyone who needs to know more. Thank you!

Amazing collection of artwork and exhibits. This is a perfect place to hang out with friends or take someone on a date. The collections and exhibits are wide ranging and constantly being changed which makes this not only a one time visit but a place you can visit every few months to experience new art.

The museum is wonderful! So much beautiful art all around. It was a busy, but we managed to go early and it wasn't as busy. So I definitely recommend to go early in the day or maybe during the week rather than the weekend if you're trying to avoid a crowd. I definitely recommend to everyone.

Lovely selection, lovely exhibits. A little expensive, but we were so happy we went. My mother loved the exhibit on royal portraits, and I loved the Venezuelan Informalism and Dorothy Hood/Louise Nevelson exhibits. If the idea of seeing those three very disparate exhibits in the same museum excites you, this one is for you. Very much worth a visit for art fans in the area or passing through.
