Very helpful staff. The guy who took care of my wife and I was excellent. He took his time and spent a lot of time helping us. No pressure sales, loved it. One of the cleanest ranges around, and unbelievable selection of firearms!
Great shop with friendly staff. Range is clean and well ventilated. Whether I'm looking for a new holster, mag pouches, or magazines, they're quick to make sure you're getting what you need and a piece of gear that will work for you. They're happy to give input to help you decide what gear is going to stay securely where you need it, and will let you fit products as needed.
Disregard the negative reviews found here.
I went with my Dad and brother shooting today and it was the easiest and greatest experience I've ever had at a shooting range.
The ventilation inside the range is the absolute best. There's a great selection of handguns. The customer service is outstanding and the employees are very respectful.
This place is the best bang for your buck.
That's right, I said it.
Was ready to purchase a gun for myself and classes for me and my sibling. I was assisted by a guy that looks like Yara Greyjoy from Game of Thrones, you know.. Theon s older sister.. the reason I gave it a 1 star is because they do have a large selection and great range. But that interaction with that employee was terrible. I was profiled and felt discriminated. I asked to see a gun and he rolled his eyes at me, lol, a grown man. He said he had the model I wanted in another case, I told him nevermind. So glad Shoot Point Blank opened up in the area as well. Won t be coming back here.
Staff is cold, really cold. Everything is Overpriced. Range is nice and clean but you can't bring your own targets...
First time gun shopper and purchaser. I went on a Tuesday night and waited about 30 min for someone to become available. Mega Sports has a HUGE selection of pistols, rifles, and shotguns. I went in pretty much knowing what I wanted to buy.
The person who serviced me was named Jim, who was very professional and knowledgeable. He answered all of my questions in addition to showing me other options aside from what I was originally looking to buy. Knowing my options, I still went with my first choice.
The high prices and moderate wait time would be the only reasons I didn't give Mega Sports 5 stars. Great service and selection are why I gave this place 4 stars.
My uncle was interested in buying a firearm so he was talking on the phone with family since this was his first purchase. Customer service told him he was suspicious and wouldn't sell him a firearm. I used to go to the range here but wont be coming here for anything with their awful customer service.
I was out Christmas shopping and stopped by to get a giftcard for my brother. Pulled up just after 9pm and the store was closed. I drove up to the door to read the hours (which are clearly posted on the door) An employee drove up to my car and angrily yelled that they were closed and to leave and warned me that they have motion sensors. He was super short with me and treated me like I was a criminal. Super unprofessional. Forget about the giftcard and I will never be shopping here for firearms again in the future. He easily could have mentioned that they closed at 9 and they'd be back in the morning. There was no need to yell at me and my girlfriend. Why post your hours if you dont want people to read them?! Absolutely ridiculous.
Love this shop prices are a little high always has ammo instock and the largest selection of guns instock looks like they bought a walmart and stocked it floor to ceiling with guns hand guns rifles shotguns largest selection i have ever seen and they have a really clean and well lite gun range in the store this place had everything safes targets holsters magazines definitely worth stopping in just make sure to bring you foid card cause your gonna buy something
Great selection and everyone who works there is very knowledgeable. Got my first for my conceal carry. I ll be buying future guns there.
I am rating this shooting range 1 star because I cannot give it 0 stars. I requested to rent a firearm and was told I needed a foid and driver's license. I did not have my license on me but I did have my foid and cc license. Ok l, understood, I need a driving license. When I asked if my cousin could rent it instead, the clerk (Benny) refused because I originally wanted to rent it. He said I could not shoot it, then I said that is fine I will not shoot it and they can supervise if they wanted. In the end, when I said forget the whole rental, I won't rent the gun the clerk calls the manager and the manager says I cannot no longer shoot because my story is "fishy." What kind of nonsense is that?! I wanted to rent a gun, I was refused, fine, I won't rent, now I cannot even rent a lane?
Sales person cursed me out on phone when I asked for a manager. The manager scott has a screw loose and was totally inappropriate when I went in for help, in person. Scott should be fired. Never buy from here. Embarrising management and most merchandise is 10 percent higher than anywhere else here locally.
Ladies, take your business elsewhere (Gander Mountain down the road actually has a female supervisor in the gun department). These guys are patronizing chauvinists. Clerk No. 1 has my husband and I fill out range paperwork stating we have the requisite knowledge to use the range, and hands it to Clerk No. 2. Clerk 2 looks at our paperwork, turns to me, and says, "Now do you know anything about shooting a gun?" I completed the concealed carry 16 hour training, shot 100% to qualify for my concealed carry (70% gets you certifiable for concealed carry in IL), and have been firing handguns since childhood. I taught my big manly husband how to shoot but the Clerk didn't question my husband's skills. Later, Clerk 2 conspiratorially winked at my husband and said, "Man, I thought we were gonna have a problem," indicating my reaction to his questioning my shooting capabilities. The other sales clerks seemed smarmy- and the shooting range was so hot that all the patrons were disgusted. We rented the guns we wanted to buy, and we will be buying them from a vendor who appreciates female customers.
Huge selection of guns and a very nice indoor shooting range. Knocked a point off because the people working here are a bit arrogant for some reason, and the prices (especially at their range) can be ridiculously high.
Went today to look at some over and under shotguns. They had great selections, Nick was very helpful, knowledgeable and polite. He was very objective and honest. I will definitely go back when I'm ready to purchase an over and under.
Sure they have a lot of inventory, but the staff was extremely unprofessional! They were practically kids behind the counter and they were responsible for the range. Everything is over priced! Plenty of other places to go in the area.
Very knowledgeable personnel and huge selections of guns and equipment.
I called to ask some questions about a product and then came in to purchase later that day. They were closed two hours early. The store clerk did not bother to tell me they were closing early, through two different phone calls. Drove 45 minutes for nothing.
So, so excited for this place to open! It's the great food, beer, and environment the area is looking for. Plus, a dog-friendly patio? What more can you ask for?!
I have stayed away from this place because of the horrible service! I reluctantly gave it another chance and was pleasantly surprised. We had Pat help us with a lot of questions. He was patient and very helpful. His service was five stars. I hope my future experience with Mega sports is the same.
If you're looking for a firearm, look no further! Unfortunately every counter person was a whining primadonna!!!
Extremely wide selection and knowledgeable staff. The prices are high and the staff are manly men that hardly smile.
Worst place to visit. I decided to buy an AR along with 3 of my other friends. It was my first time purchasing stso Iarted asking questions to an employee. He was more lost then I was with an attitude. Long story short save your self a trip and time. Big place with worst attitude. I ended up driving 45 mile to point blank to purchase two AR. Small place but very professional place. Thumbs up to Point blank n thubs down to mega sport. You just lot 4 customers an close to $10k in business.
It s like they invented the firearm. Tons of attitude. Try MMI in Minooka. Small shop. Super friendly. Sorry no range.
Great selection of guns and equipment. But very very pricy and non competitive at all.. the staff if knowledgeable, at same time VERY snobby and uptight ,
I really avoided this place because of the bad reviews but it's close to my house so I gave them a try anyway. Three other ranges that I used to go to are either too crowded, have rude employees, or have poor lighting and ventilation.
First of all, I only go here for the range so I can't comment on prices. I've only had to show my FOID to use the range, which is fine with me. $22 to use the range is a little more than I'd like ($17 with ammo purchase), but it's clean, well ventilated, has sufficient lighting and no time limit. I've been to other ranges in the area and this has been one of the nicer ones.
I've never had any problems with the staff either. If you respect the range rules you'll be fine. They do have ammo restrictions (such as steel case, not-so-popular brands and reloads) so check first.
Good selection of guns but people could be a little nicer.
Best and most expansive gun store I have been in. Very friendly staff.
Handguns, long guns, ammo, holsters, bags, cleaning kits, etc... they have it all. Everyone is friendly and helpful.
NOTE: No background checks initiated within 30 mins of closing time.
COVID ALERT: expect to wait in line when wanting to look at (handle) or purchase a gun. Spent 90 mins in line over 2 visits just trying to pickup my new gun.
Very poor customer service. They don't seem to care if they even have customers.
Very insulting to my wife (just because she is a woman does not mean she wants a pink 22) lied to me about product on hand, wasted my time by having me drive half an hour to get there (with no product on hand), when I complained to the management I was told "sorry you feel that way". Hey buddy, apologize for your employees, not the customer's feelings. Lost a pretty big sale. Won't be back
Very helpful personal a pleasure to do business with them
I asked a simple question about getting a foid card, after trying to get the attention of several "workers " all I got was a dirty look and it seemed my existence on this flat plane we all live on was annoying to the one guy who had to listen to me ask said simple question. Back to faking your job.."worker"
It's a nice grown folks store. The staff is cool and very helpful.
If you want to be treated like garbage, then this is the place to go. There is absolutely no respect for the customer, and you're immediately treated as if though you are a criminal. The employees act like they have some truly important job that actually matters, but the truth is, many of them are uneducated, especially when it comes to firearms. Do these businesses not understand that without us they wouldn't be operating? Disrespecting your customers by being blatantly rude or having some sort of better than thou complex may not yield immediate negative results, but in time you will grow a reputation, as Megasports has, and then you will find the company you think is immune to financial collapse has done just that. Stop supporting this business as they truly could care less about you. They're overpriced, and most importantly, lack common decency. This past winter, when asked to speak to the owner regarding a situation, I was told the owner never comes out of his office. I asked, "Never?" The employee said, "Yes, he never talks to customers." How does one operate a business like this? How are you that disrespectful to the people that allow you to even have a business? I truly hope this business bankrupts and a more decent owner takes over the establishment. It's a shame such a nice facility is run by such individuals. Stay away until you see a name change and confirm it's under a new owner and management.
Very nice place . Very professional and courteous staff . Will answer any questions you have . Great rates for the range and with rentals to .
Huge, clean store. Good selection. Difficult, if not impossible, to get help, tho.
Great selection, decent prices... horrible customer service. Have to show a foid card to get in the door to buy a hat.
Great selection of overpriced firearms. Nice range. Most of the staff is friendly and approachable. The manager, Scott, was the exception. I have dealt with him several times before and have always gotten a very rude and unfriendly attitude from him. Most of the other guys behind the counter were cool though. Just the manager, Scott (balding guy with glasses) sucks. Wont buy anything else from here because of him.
It's either hit or miss with the guys who work here you either get a nice person who is very helpful or you get the guy who seems like he'd rather be doing anything else
Wide selection a little pricey and the service seems kinda distracted but still a nice gun shop
Their selection is outstanding (perhaps the best I have seen) and the place is immaculate. Nice to see in a non-chain environment. I didn't find the staff rude and when I purchased a used firearm, they were flexible on the price. I also didn't experience anyone asking me for a FOID card on entry so perhaps their stance has changed. Staff wise I can't complain except that they are horrendously under staffed. Let's face it, you are a store and you are there to sell things. Being understaffed is the biggest sales killer next to being under stocked. Their new firearms are the highest priced I've seen in the Chicago area. The range is very nice but like their firearms, its overpriced.
You feel as if the staff is actually doing you a favor by helping you. Very condescending and pretentious attitudes from the staff. Their range fees are ridiculous and the cost of their products are overpriced. I can remember buying my very first revolver in 1998 there and it was the same then. I went in there for the first time in over ten years and the same exact attitudes was there with their employees.
Eventually, this will hurt them. Its called Gunbroker and other FFL's who will transfer a firearm and it's also called going to Rinks in Lockport.
We have shopped at your store in the past and have purchased several thousands of dollars of merchandise. I wanted to go into Mega Sports today with my husband today but was rudely stopped at the door by one of your employees. Apparently you do not allow any person into your store without their FOID cards. I was told to leave because I didn't have my card with me. I wasn't looking to purchase a weapon this visit. What if I lived in a different state? What if it was a child? We will no longer be spending a dime in your business, Nor will our family & friends.
Not the lowest costs, but the product selection, customer service, and service are top notch.
I tried to go there to buy a reloading book. There was an unhelpful person at the door who demanded to see my papers, scratch that, my FOID card. I'm from AZ so I looked at him and asked him what for. I showed my AZ drivers license and he said I couldn't enter the store without a FOID. Forget that nonsense. I went down the street and spent my money at Gander instead.
I was hesitant to go to this place due to all of the negative comments but I decided to give them a try anyway. I called ahead of time to make sure that my 12yo son would be allowed in the store. The guy who answered the phone said no problem and was upbeat and friendly. Once we got there the store was busy but we were greeted by a friendly employee in the front. As we browsed their huge handgun selection we were offered help by four different guys. I had a very positive experience at this store.
For one, THEY NEVER ANSWER THE PHONE!!!!!!! If you're looking for something specific, you don't want to drive all the way there just to find they don't have it or don't carry it. Answer your damn phone!!!! Second, there is not enough staff. There's one guy working the safe area and multiple people waiting to talk to that one person. This place could be waaay more popular than it is and do so much more business if their management removed their head from their "you know what". There are so many people looking at handguns and only 3-4 people working the counter. The wait is unacceptable.
I walked in the store with 3,500.00 cash to buy a .308. As i was asking some basic questions the sales staff member told me I need to learn how to shoot before i buy this gun. I was asking basic questions to have convo while I was looking the gun over. I walked out. I spent to long in the USMC as a Scout sniper to have someone tell me I need to learn how to shoot.
I'll keep it simple since there is not enough space in this post to explain how bad this place is. Arrogant, rude, ignore you, unfriendly, ignorant, unprofessional, etc, etc, etc..... After waiting for 10 minutes with no one else in line, I asked to see a Glock 30 Gen 4. They said it doesn't exist. Seriously.... that's what they told me with a condescending attitude. First, they do exist. Second, I would hope they would know more than I do about Glocks or most firearms for that matter. Heck, they work in a gun shop. No where near enough said, but best of luck if you feel that motivated to try out Megasports. By far the worst experience I have had in a gun shop......ever. I guess that means I'm not going back :)
Was Told MY Ammunition was not factory brand new because I took them out of the box and kept them in plastic bags and could not be used on the shooting range. Last time I walked in this place was 7 years ago and that experience was terrible. Stood waiting at the counter foid card and cash in hand ready to buy a rifle only to be ignored while a manager and their employee chit chatted away. Don't think I will be coming back ever again.
Wanted to go to the range but the worker was not professional. We explained we were never here before and he was giving us attitude and being rude the whole time. Good selection of guns and a bigger selection of attitude.
STAY AWAY! I will never set foot in this store again. I will gladly pay more somewhere else just to avoid the rude and unknowledgeable staff. They are very outdated on their gun laws, still enforcing policies that havent been in effect since the assault weapons ban of the 90s.
Case in point: While I was looking at a semi automatic, they noticed my address on my FOID, and literally ripped the firearm out of my hands and firmly told me that they would not sell it to me, or even look at it, because of my area of residence even though there is no longer a magazine restriction in my area. Even so, they did not even think to explore other options for magazines with less capacity.
Additionally, the staff have no clue what a sporting rifle is outside of what they shot in a Call of Duty video game, and have even less of a clue how they function. This place has the biggest hard on for AR15s I have ever seen. If you love AR15's and spending a lot of money, this place is for you, because they probably have one with every combination of accessories possible, at sky high prices.
You better believe MegaSports is gonna make you feel like a criminal from the moment you walk in too! You so much as ask about ammo and they're gonna demand you, your mom and dads, and even your late grandmothers FOID cards, drivers licences and SS numbers. Im not even really exaggerating, they get all uptight and offended when you want to purchase anything over a .22, and they won't let you even look at their products unless everyone with you has a FOID. The staff is very unfriendly, and when I inquired about 2 particular companies that I had interest in, they told me that they "had a falling out" with both, and refuse to order or carry their products any longer. (Boy, I wonder who's fault that was?)
As if I didn't feel ostracized enough by the gestapo checkpoints, rude staff, and snobby know it alls, on my way out the front door, a worker screamed at me to stop, stood in front of the exit staring at me, and walked away without saying another word.
If you want a pleasant shopping experience, go somewhere that welcomes your business instead of making you feel like a convict.
The people there greeted us as we entered the door and they was very helpful and also very knowledgeable.
This place is insane. We have the Covid expired certificate. Had us come back today as he wanted us to print straight from the website. I literally brought in everything they asked 3rd day in a row. Including the payments etc and still denied today. I will NEVER return here again even when Covid is over. I have been a FOID holder for over 10 years.
Are unaware of actual gun laws pertaining to purchase and sale of firearms. Denied us entry due to only having CCL card in hand, which is valid for purchasing. As long as your FOID is valid, 430 ILCS 65/3 (a) allows you to present your CCL in lieu of a FOID to purchase a firearm or ammunition.
I am only leaving two stars because their policy on selling to residents of Cook County
Rude and overpriced much cheaper better ranges other places to go to
Helpful and knowledgeable staff and they have a huge inventory!
Just plan rude been here before and bought a lot of stuff will never go back again
If the staff gives you a hard time it's because you don't know what you are doing.
Never had a problem at Mega sports. I have seen the staff be very rude to customers that think they know what's what. If you are looking at a firearms, remember, it's not yours yet. Respect the property. Look up "how to browse firearms at a gun store" videos on YouTube. The range has simple rules too. Follow them or go somewhere else.
Been there many times. Customer service is their #1 priority. Many free firearm seminars are available from time to time. Great, state of the art, shooting range. Firearm rental available. Check out the 'sales'. Stop in, you won't regret it!
It might not be as bad as some are saying, but there staff could be a little more helpful. The range is pricing, but they're the only one nearby unless you want to drive to Lombard.
Best selection of guns I've ever seen. It's worth going to just to look at it. I had to show my FOID card just to get in, which is weird and no sales people ever even said hi to me during my visit. Granted I was wandering around checking things out, but they could be friendlier.
Fantastic selection of guns-gear!
Kinda like a Super Store for firearms!
Disappointed they wouldn't evenlet me in the door as an out of state visitor. Guess the other gun stores in the area that are not so liberal will get my money. Dont waste your time if trying to go here and not from IL. Never been so disrespected by a firearm store in my life. Never been shown the door from any store anywhere for being out of state.
Not very busy. I walked around for 15 minutes looking for Rock Island Armory Ultra 1911 pistol. The store had many workers, but apparently they were to busy talking to each other to help a customer. My business will go to Point Blank.
But they do have an excellent selection of guns.
0 stars, I walked in and the manager said he didn t have time to help me find what I needed. I came in an hour before close when I got off work and the manager yelled Oh my god who now when we walked in. horrible would much rather get what I want from good people.
I wish I could give ZERO stars.
Where do I begin?
I called and spoke to someone about buying parts, he was very nice and i got a good feeling. I got the location and walked in and was stopped and told to wait in line immediately. I waited in a line that I thought was to enter the store which turned out to be the line to buy firearms, nobody said anything and I wasted 30 minutes off the bat.
I realized the mistake and walked into the store to locate what I needed. I walked to the counter and they told me to get back in line... so I did.
I was in line for another hour or so before I was greeted by one of only TWO people working behind the counters (severely understaffed) we found my part and I gave him my ID's to start paperwork. He would not accept my State ID and FOID card. he told me I was required to have a drivers license... NOT REQUIRED BY LAW IN ILLNOIS by the way.. only at Mega Sports.. he was very rude and the entire staff were swearing, joking, running around playing games, NOT helping their customers. it was the most unprofessional shop I have ever been to. I was basically told to Kick rocks.
They make it extremely hard to buy ANYTHING from them. you have to jump through fiery hoops to get anything done. The ONLY thing they have going for them is their selection... ABSOLUTELY not worth the wait or the rude customer service. I went to another shop and gave them $2,200 of my business and will continue to.
The staff and the way they run their business is a complete joke.
Nice range , b.s. that you have to buy ammo to get a discount to shoot, guys behind counter act like your doing them a favor to buy a gun, I'm buying down the road Gander , they treat you right
Got one heck of a deal on a Black Friday deal on a Sig P365 tac pac. Even off sale I couldn't find it at a cheaper price than here. This place has everything! Definitely will be back.
Stay away! Stay away! For the love of god stay away! This place is awful. Spend your money somewhere else.
Me and My wife are first time gun buyers and we took advantage of a free fire arms course that they held. They taught us some essential things that we would've knew if it wasn't for them. This course also qualified us for enough experience to use the gun range. My wife bought a Ruger 9mm and she loves it. The customer service was excellent and thing sale team answered every question and helped us with any needs. I really loved it. I am debating on buying me a Glock but I don't know which one but I know with the advice of these guys I will leave with the right home protection tool.
I can't believe all the bad reviews I've read about Mega Sport here. My experience has been 100% great. Many years ago, when I got my FOID, I went there totally uneducated. (This is long before the big new addition to the store)
I wanted to buy a gun and the guy who helped me spent well over an hour with me. We talked guns, safety, ammo, etc.
He then advised me to test out a certain gun on their range to make sure this was the right choice for me. He even came into the range with me to get me up to speed on loading the magazine properly and how to hold and aim the pistol correctly. He stayed in there with me for a good 30 minutes.
Frankly it was a great learning experience, and the guy could not have been more helpful. All these years later, I still love their range and the folks there have always treated me well.
Just yesterday, I went to their range to fire two new sidearms for the first time. The guy at the range desk did me a favor and completely went over each gun with me, to make sure they were safe, and ready to shoot. (I had an issue with the slide on one of them, which concerned me)
When I finished my session, this same fellow called me over to the counter. He was watching my shooting and offered a great tip on how to better grip the pistol for more accuracy. This was totally unsolicited and 100% helpful.
I love Mega Sports and have never had a bad experience there. I will admit that sometimes, the gun counter seems a but under staffed. I attribute that to the times we are living in. BTW, I am also usually greeted warmly when i enter the store and always thanked for my business on the way out.
I only wrote this review because of the amount of bad reviews I read. When a business treats me well, I like to spread the word, and Mega Sports has always treated me very well.
John
I've never been treated so rudely as at Mega Sports. Their website advertised they were open until 9 pm, we arrived at 6:50 pm, and were stopped at the door by an arrogant goon who refused entry because they closed at 7 pm, which was still 10 minutes away. Also informed that my wife would not be permitted entry because she did not bring her FOID. No apology. Just get out. I will never step foot in this place again as long as a I live.
My mother and I went to this establishment to look for a weapon for her as she has a special set of requirements in a weapon and this place supposedly has a decent selection. We were stopped at the door as they apparently will not let you in without a FOID card(it says nothing on their website I could find that restricts entrance to the building without a FOID card). I dont have one since I dont live in this restrictive state however my mother does have one . I explained I did not intend on buying anything just advising my mother on strengths and weaknesses in a weapon for her special needs and since my family was visiting, she wanted me to go with her. So the person said no exceptions as apparently it did not matter even if I had a concealed carry permit from another state to help my mom shop for a weapon. Fine no problem I shook my head and walked away, as it is definitely their right to do so.
So my mother and I drove down to Gander Mountain and she spent her $1500 there with no hassles at the door.
I want to thank the owners and employees of Mega Sports as I would not have wanted my mother to purchase a weapon from their establishment. I dont have a FOID card, dont want one either. However from a business stand point to disallow entrance of a son who resides out of state due to not having a FOID card, who was advising his mother who intended on a purchase, cost them a sale today and my parents will not shop their in the future. They swore to inform all of their friends and business associates in the future of how we were denied service at Mega Sports if any of them ask.
Staff is very rude and I WILL NEVER COME BACK!! Had the worst experience and treated people horribly. DO NOT GO HERE!!!
Excellent variety, many brands on hand to check out. Clean, bright, well ventilated range. Lots of ammo in stock as well.
Worse customer service I've ever had. I went in knowing what I wanted and got denied from an employee because he didn't feel comfortable making the sale to me which made me feel like he was discriminating because I was a female. He then told me to go get some training then come back after he went to go get his manager to tell me the same thing. Mind you all I'm not new to guns i also do hunt by the way nor is this my first time I have ever purchased a gun. I would never recommend this place to anyone !
Bought a really nice knife from there a week ago. Had it for a half of a day went to clip it on my pants pocket and the clip broke. I called was told to bring it in because they have to send it out to the company to see if it's under warranty. I drove an hour to get to the store thinking they would send it out, id have to wait 8-10 days and drive an hour back to pick it up, bummer right. But nope I got there the manager fixed it in about 5 mins and I checked out a few guns and left happy. I was very delighted that he just fixed it for me. I'm big into knives and really didn't want to have my brand new knife gone for that long. So thank you for taking care of my knife for me on the spot.
